I genuinely can't believe no one at any point in development said "wait, you want to cover every level in snow?...The entire screen is going to be white, there's going be nothing to look at or way to differentiate each level", it's jsut such an incredibly dumb idea for a South Park game which has so many background references and iconic locations.
Yeah, South Park is the name of a town, but the game doesn't really care about this fictional geographic entity. The intro cinematic couould have been about the characters sent in another place instead of being about a snowstorm and the rest of the game would still work.
Thats basically what this video is honestly would love to see him make a video on some roguelikes and lites, see his opinions on them (on one of his other channels of course)

I still thought this game was a remake of the n64 game because why else would they do a snow themed 3D game. But it's not a high quality remake of a game that was bad and instead just something new and terrible.
I think matt and trey shouldn't have signed that deal with paramount and saved themselves the thousands of dollars they've lost to sign with Ubisoft again
With the small amount of levels, lack of checkpoints, random card perks, and trying to get players to replay already existing levels, a part of me wonders if this was intended to be a Roguelike at some point, but then that idea got scrapped. If that's what happened, it's a shame, because just having a lack of checkpoints and random upgrades isn't what makes Roguelikes fun. The genre thrives off of quick runs that encourage the player to try and try again until they get it right, not off of one boring level that takes an hour to get through. The random upgrades in Roguelikes are meant to encourage players to find new strategies and synergies, instead of just relying on what works like what happened in your playthrough. Progress also needs to happen very fast in a run so that the player has something to latch onto, rather than constantly feeling weak all the time. Honestly, if this game *had* gone the Roguelike route, with levels that only take about 20 minutes to beat but encourage multiple playthroughs, it maybe wouldn't have been too bad.
When I was around 13, I started getting into South Park so I played Fractured But Whole and I loved it, so when they announced this I was so excited, I pre ordered it as soon as I could, and now I’m just really disappointed. I don’t think the game is horrible, but compared to the quality standard South Park has set with the past few games, it felt really lacking
Man, youtubers are really embracing this cool "compilation to fall asleep to" format. First caddicarus and now mark. Now I just want a Midnight Mark compilation of all the "Ranking every episode" vids just because it would be funny how long it would be
Good point, it would have actually made sense to switch from 2D to 3D in-game to emphasize their imaginations taking over, and looking like they did when they were playing ninjas. Perfect setup for laughs too, like when Professor Chaos gets hit with a shuriken, then we see butters gushing blood from his eye freaking out.
All it takes are 3 Google searches to understand the state of this game: Stick of Truth: Obsidian in their prime, right around when they did New Vegas Fractured but Whole: Ubisoft San Francisco, definitely have the resources to make a good game Snow Day: Question LLC, a small indie developer with some cool games under their belt, but not in line with the triple a quality of the past two for sure
Which, nothing against Question LLC, they seem really cool! And the game looks great for an indie game! But between them being a smaller less equipped team and a seeming lack of effort put in from the South Park team it just seems like it was doomed from the start.
@@fenpirikala Actually I think it was more like 2009 (before NV was even released), but the bulk of production still occurred after its development had concluded. My point was that New Vegas wasn’t Obsidian in its prime - sure the writing was on point but it didn’t even use their own engine. Also genuinely curious - when did he say he was a fan of new vegas?

@Ghostlynotme445 No quadruple a means it took longer than any other game in the history of the industry to release, and then turns out to be a live service game that is impossible to like.
this game really brought be back to a simpler time where you either got decent games or games like these and there were many, nick toons unite, fairy odd parents, teen titans. licensed videogames that wasn't the best or wasn't the worst but you played them for the fun hanging with friends or seeing your beloved IP in a different light or interactable. I've seen an interview with the creators saying they wanted a more simple multiplayer game since one show creator already got the game type he is into which is rpgs where the other likes multiplayer. yes this game isn't as good as the others but if you want a game that feels like that play that. but for someone that likes rouge likes and multiplayer games where I can just enjoy time with my siblings or friends this is exactly what I was looking for a game i can beat in a day with my buds and experience it in a genre i love as well. I hope the dlc makes it more enjoyable for the mass audience that didn't like it but for me I'm glad I got this game and hope to have my option help anyone else that felt like I did. yes only 3 weapons per type but play a rouge like its usually from 3 to 6 characters to choose from and the dame repetitive cards its just the genre we are in but for what they made and being the first they made I definitely enjoy it and still have it downloaded on my ps5
Honestly I feel like this game could've been something like pvz's garden warfare where you do have a story mode with AI like you have here but you can play on previous maps in a multiplayer mode and I can definitely see capture the point or payload push in Snow day and if they have to incorporate the card mechanics have the players need to play the story mode to unlock various cards or use their TP or whatever currency they have spare to buy new ones they can both use in the story mode and in multiplayer like in garden warfare where you can unlock different variants of plants abilities or whatever and after such n such amount of time or at the beginning of combat or after some form of checkpoint (like maybe after a point is taken for example) the teams vote to add certain cards in replacement of previous ones you can vote to keep some cards in play or switch them out for others depending on how the game is going and bith teams can do this giving dynamic battles as the game progresses. there's alot of ways snow day could've done better but instead they just proceeded to have it fall somewhat flat literally just make it like garden warfare and you'd be good it's a replayable game with cards various players can randomly have to change up the battle for a time there's so much squandered potential
@@randyking2057I'm glad you agree throughout the entire review I just kept thinking of garden warfare especially how the mechanics and gameplay were very similar at least at a glance it really shows how Snow day was kinda rushed in most regards the graphics are good and smooth and whatnot but the gameplay elements just aren't up to par and seeing how alot of snow days gameplay is done better in garden warfare proves how much it was just rushed and wasn't cared about all that much with only a singular campaign to play and the game only having card collecting and upgrading as any form of padding that you can't even really flaunt because there's no online which it really could have easily (again compared to garden warfare snow day could've easily done the same online battle mode and it would've been just as good) it's just disheartening seeing all it could've easily been yet it isn't
What are you talking about? Battle For Neighborville still has the same exact gameplay as the GW games, it just changes the artstyle (and has a much lower budget). Snow Day is literally another type of game, that doesn't have anything in common with the other 2 games.
Wild that they decided to go with a Covid allegory for a game released in 2024 especially considering how well they already did it when it was relevant.
They could've done a 2022 Northeast Blizzard story. That's where I assumed it was going with the "huge blizzard" angle. Have it be like Fallout in the snow.
I went shopping with my family at Walmart, and in each console’s game cases they always had it in the farthest to left left column in the farthest to the left shelf on the top row, to the point where my family HAD to notice [what made it worse was that my five year old sister was pointing at the games and shouting the names out loud]
8:18 “What the fluff? Why isn’t it working?” “Your drawing isn’t good enough for the magic to work. Just give up wizard.” “Is this guy from Ohio or something?”
Buy a game called *_"snowday"_* Angry because there is _only snow_ There really could have done more to at least differentiate the different areas though, I think the snow esthetic looks great but I can see how boring it can get after a while when there's little variation.
I grew up in middle school when South Park was brand-new and they were banking off its sudden explosive popularity with merch like T-shirts and of course videogames... The N64 FPS game was... ok, but largely forgettable as it was clear they never playtested it since like the final boss was just about impossible to beat without invincibility. Once the Stick of Truth was out decades later, it felt like they finally got it right making a South Park game that actually FELT like you were playing the show. This... It feels like they were so focused on making a trilogy and with the first 2 games being in 2D, they did the common and obvious thing from the 90's with "instead of a South Park 3, let's make it a South Park 3D!" like they did with other franchises like Earthworm Jim... with... seemingly similar results. A shame.
I think what this game does really well, is showing how South Park really doesn’t look good in 3D. It’s kinda weird to say that the N64 looks pretty similar
Honestly your point about the Paramount deal makes the most sense, especially when one of the first skins day 1 to buy is from the CRED special...smh...
I like the idea of Snow Day but it feels so lack luster nothing has impact the combos throw you accross the map (floaty) the rouge like card thing was super annyoing and i really wish we had proper classes in other words - i wish it was just Stick of truth with realtime combat in an open world it could have killed dragons dogma if it did that
Ubisoft should’ve let South Park Studios make Snow Day as a Western RPG. Because Stick of Truth was Fantasy, Fractured Butt Whole was Superhero, and Snow Day should’ve been a western draw.
I'm not an American so every time there I was watching a cartoon and there was some plot about the school being closed because of snow I was like what the hell that never happens over here
Well, that's why I think South Park should continue in the branch/road of the "MOTHER-style RPGS"because that, for me is the style of game that South Park works in the best possible way from the beginning. Oh and if you ask me what kind of theme the new possible South Park RPG should use,i think the best ones could be theme of Good Times With Weapons or Lil'Crime Stoppers.I think it would come out really cool for sure.❤
the rpgs also allow for fun battles and vaiety of enemies, and excuses to make unique scripted events like when you battle gnomes while your parents are fucking
I wish they made a game based of the episode "Fun times with weapons" Cool weapons to fight foes with, seeing the all characters get cool ninja design's & add some metal gear stealth sections.
I remember me and a coworker looking at this and I immediately was hesitant on this game, while they kept telling me that "This game is gonna be the shit." I mean, both in the narrative and reviews, I guess he was right.
Next SP game should totally revist the 'Good Times with Weapons' aesthetic as an action RPG or something. It'd be different than the superhero and fantasy stuff they've already done, plus it's a fan-favorite episode. It'd be cool to see the entire town reimagined in that anime style as well.
This is almost like Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League, as the game was bashed for what they did to Batman as it was meant to be Kevin Conroy's last role before his passing, before the news of his true last projects were revealed.
I will always think about that one youtube comment that suggested that the next south park game should focus on a multiverse theme. The potential it could've had with mix and matching characters and abilities.
What's really telling is that I love South Park, and I make an attempt to stay apprised of news, on the franchise, and I had no idea that this had even released, and that was two months ago.
Matt and Trey must've really phoned it in whith this game. Because so far, nothing about this game feels like a step up for the first two. They strayed too far away from the established formula. Even the title "Snow Day" feels generic when "Stick of Truth" and "Fractured But Whole" felt like unironic appropriate titles for a South Park Game
While the hate this game is getting does sort of bring me down, I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed. _South Park_ has been running for a very long time, so Matt and Trey might be running out of ideas for other parts of the show's franchise aside from the show itself since there's always new ideas to implement as it stays up to current events. I'm actually starting to notice that the amount of hype that was brought up for this game makes it feel more like a cash grab for the _South Park_ franchise if anything (kind of like how _Daria_ has a game called _Daria's Inferno_ and it was poorly received), especially considering how the collector's edition is like, $200. The talking Cartman toilet paper holder is funny though.
It’s so weird seeing so many negative reviews about this, Matt and Trey were working on this directly and then reviews were saying it’s like an episode of the show.
Because in the UK and many other places, you begin high school at age 11. We don't have such a thing as 'middle school.' America is not the only place in the world (thank Christ).
I don't get it, they're hoping to attract enough people who buy everything as long as it's southpark? Or is there a correlation between rougelike live-service games and tiktok kids?
I think most of us saw this coming from a mile away. 3D art style, costs half the price of your average AAA video game, developed by a fairly obscure game studio. I was still hoping for the best, though. Oh well. Hopefully now Trey & Matt are working on the sequel to TFBW.

That "Midnight Mark" announcement felt so surreal it almost felt like I entered an alternate reality where Caddicarus did not exist.
I like how progressively pissed he gets, truly an amazing character study of a man falling from sanity
TLDW; Mark discovers rougelikes and enjoys them, however the first rougelike he plays fucking sucks
Thats basically what this video is honestly
would love to see him make a video on some roguelikes and lites, see his opinions on them (on one of his other channels of course)
i really love how the Black Friday trilogy basically was a big o game of thrones parody just to advertise the old game. that how clever the marketing was for that game
LS Mark saw Caddy Sleeps and he thought "I can do that"
Yeah, South Park should stick to 2D after the disaster that was South Park n64. It just seems jarring to see cutscenes being 2D and playing 3D.
I still thought this game was a remake of the n64 game because why else would they do a snow themed 3D game. But it's not a high quality remake of a game that was bad and instead just something new and terrible.
To be fair, if you quit trying something after one failed attempt a couple decades ago, you'll miss out on potentially good products
its like a rougelike made by someone who's never played a rougelike before.

Something I don’t get is why they didn’t go with Ninjas instead of Medieval Again.
Because this game seems like a experimentó and they are not gonna waste the ninjas with it.
Weren’t there ninjas in tfbw

All it takes are 3 Google searches to understand the state of this game:
Stick of Truth: Obsidian in their prime, right around when they did New Vegas
Fractured but Whole: Ubisoft San Francisco, definitely have the resources to make a good game
Snow Day: Question LLC, a small indie developer with some cool games under their belt, but not in line with the triple a quality of the past two for sure
Which, nothing against Question LLC, they seem really cool! And the game looks great for an indie game! But between them being a smaller less equipped team and a seeming lack of effort put in from the South Park team it just seems like it was doomed from the start.
SoT came out 4 years after New Vegas tho
@@maxt6301yeah but develope it started sometime in 2011, in part because Trey Parker was a fan of Obsidian & New Vegas

Classic Ubisoft
this game really brought be back to a simpler time where you either got decent games or games like these and there were many, nick toons unite, fairy odd parents, teen titans. licensed videogames that wasn't the best or wasn't the worst but you played them for the fun hanging with friends or seeing your beloved IP in a different light or interactable.
This is not 10 hours of you being sexually attracted to sonic characters >:(
Honestly I feel like this game could've been something like pvz's garden warfare where you do have a story mode with AI like you have here but you can play on previous maps in a multiplayer mode and I can definitely see capture the point or payload push in Snow day and if they have to incorporate the card mechanics have the players need to play the story mode to unlock various cards or use their TP or whatever currency they have spare to buy new ones they can both use in the story mode and in multiplayer like in garden warfare where you can unlock different variants of plants abilities or whatever and after such n such amount of time or at the beginning of combat or after some form of checkpoint (like maybe after a point is taken for example) the teams vote to add certain cards in replacement of previous ones you can vote to keep some cards in play or switch them out for others depending on how the game is going and bith teams can do this giving dynamic battles as the game progresses. there's alot of ways snow day could've done better but instead they just proceeded to have it fall somewhat flat literally just make it like garden warfare and you'd be good it's a replayable game with cards various players can randomly have to change up the battle for a time there's so much squandered potential
Wow this is a way cooler idea
Guys, I have a theory
Stick of Truth = PvZ Garden Warfare
Fractured but Whole = Garden Warfare 2
Snow Day = Battle for Neighborville
BfN way bettet than Snow Day, it just got cut too short
Neighborville definitely had more effort put into it than Snow Day
What are you talking about? Battle For Neighborville still has the same exact gameplay as the GW games, it just changes the artstyle (and has a much lower budget).
Snow Day is literally another type of game, that doesn't have anything in common with the other 2 games.
True
Nah don't do BNF like that, it's not the games falt that EA focuses on money first, and content second.
Wild that they decided to go with a Covid allegory for a game released in 2024 especially considering how well they already did it when it was relevant.
They became lazy sellouts
Maybe this game was in development hell for a while
They could've done a 2022 Northeast Blizzard story. That's where I assumed it was going with the "huge blizzard" angle. Have it be like Fallout in the snow.
"South Park had a rough transition to 3D"
I went shopping with my family at Walmart, and in each console’s game cases they always had it in the farthest to left left column in the farthest to the left shelf on the top row, to the point where my family HAD to notice [what made it worse was that my five year old sister was pointing at the games and shouting the names out loud]

I like the idea of Snow Day but it feels so
lack luster
nothing has impact
the combos throw you accross the map (floaty)
the rouge like card thing was super annyoing
and i really wish we had proper classes
in other words - i wish it was just Stick of truth with realtime combat in an open world
it could have killed dragons dogma if it did that
Ubisoft should’ve let South Park Studios make Snow Day as a Western RPG. Because Stick of Truth was Fantasy, Fractured Butt Whole was Superhero, and Snow Day should’ve been a western draw.
South Park: Snow Day, should've been Wildwest as the theme rather than the Fantasy.

I wish they made a game based of the episode "Fun times with weapons"
Cool weapons to fight foes with, seeing the all characters get cool ninja design's
& add some metal gear stealth sections.
I remember me and a coworker looking at this and I immediately was hesitant on this game, while they kept telling me that "This game is gonna be the shit."
I mean, both in the narrative and reviews, I guess he was right.
“There are no checkpoints in this hour long stage!?”
Yeah I felt that because I lost a boss fight to Stan with that damn Axe he had
A South Park game inspired by the paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series could work in my opinion
Next SP game should totally revist the 'Good Times with Weapons' aesthetic as an action RPG or something. It'd be different than the superhero and fantasy stuff they've already done, plus it's a fan-favorite episode. It'd be cool to see the entire town reimagined in that anime style as well.
20:34 Did bro have his headphones on backwards? It sounds correct to me
This is almost like Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League, as the game was bashed for what they did to Batman as it was meant to be Kevin Conroy's last role before his passing, before the news of his true last projects were revealed.
It's so weird how we went from the kinda bloated but still pretty good FBW to a game that's the complete opposite of bloated and the opposite of good
Still don’t understand why they did a hack n slash rather than 3rd person fps snowball fight.

Nichole being a side quest is very random, they never did much with her in the show, so I find it weird that she is a face for a side quest but idk
If they add pvp as a dlc this game will do great everyone’s just being negative.
It’s very weird for a show that’s art style is meant to replicate paper decided to go 3D
Yeah, from paper to paper mache
because 2D wouldn't of worked for the game they wanted to make lol
@CartoDarko then they should have made a different game.
It would’ve made sense for this one to go for a war theme, snow trenches sound cool and would make sense
I really don’t know how you didn’t pick up on this, but THQNordic is the publisher, not the developer. That would be a studio called “Question”.
32:57 was that an American Dad! reference?
20:45 I hat to say it but Cartman's voice comes from the right and Kyle's comes from the left
It’s so weird seeing so many negative reviews about this, Matt and Trey were working on this directly and then reviews were saying it’s like an episode of the show.
