The Brand New South Park game has been released, South Park: Snow Day, and unfortunately unlike the Stick of Truth or Fractured But Whole, it's been universally panned, so today I'm taking a look at it to see if the criticism is warranted!

What did you think of South Park Snow Day 🤔
ALSO - I realized the games audio wasn’t coming from the wrong side I just regularly wear my headphones backwards WHOOPS
South
I haven’t played it but I might
It’s okay but not as good as my game in the future
Haha snow day
Itssss good
South Park games should honestly stick to 2D animation rather than 3D. Just looks so much more appealing to me
honestly, if it looked like the intro of the show, id be down for a 3d south park. like something almost paper mario esque
@goatsoup I agree that's what everyone thought the game would be when they announced that it would be in 3d
the 3d games on the ps1 were fun. the concept definitely has potential if they just wouldn't have rushed out 5 hours of lazy rinse and repeat gameplay
I think a 3D South Park game could be amazing... if they made it more like Hit and Run, not a dungeon crawling fighting game.
Yep, not like there are any actual problems with the game, surely it’s not that you just don’t like how it doesn’t look like the show….
Having the theme be Vikings or something to fit with the extra snowy enviroment would have actually helped this game feel somewhat unique.
That would have been hilarious and could be awesome
Or derivative of Skyrim
@@bumblehoney7206 do you mean have it be a fantasy viking setting?
South Park Country: Colorado Freeze
That could have worked better
Being 3D and having a season pass really sounds like demands from higher upside " 2D games don't sell anymore and add add a season pass those sell great"
The video game equivalent of their bit in the special: Gut the content, and add a pass!
Yeah the 3D is fine but from the very beginning nothing about this game sounded good and it only got worse when we started getting official details.
"2D games don't sell anymore" it does if it's south park. 2D allows the game to look the exact same way as in the show.
@@derbettnasser4027 2D games sell well all the time, idiot executives just see a chart and decided to hit ever checkmark they can that sells well
i don't know, given how firm trey and matt stood their ground before, i have a hard time believing they'd not just allow but actively endorse and market a project like this without it being what they wanted to do.
If they were gonna tackle a 3D South Park game again, they should've gone for the cardboard cut-out construction paper style of the South Park intro introduced in Season 17.
completely agree
So like paper Mario?
@@ManBird999 Stick of Truth's combat system is basically Paper Mario
When I heard the next game was gonna be 3D, I was really hoping they meant it’d look something like that intro, or something like Yoshi’s Crafted World
Totally! Have the characters be 2D sprites, and the world be 3D
I wish the second game made a Canada DLC where you unlock Ike as a new hero and the new "Knight" class
This has potential. Like, have it revolve around ike helping the royal family and maybe you are trained to be a knight by Terrence and Phillip.
I like that idea
I wish we can once get full games released without stupid DLCs
@@heyrakorzlar To be fair, FBW was a full game, and the DLCs were completely different stories, like it would've been here

I was like 16 when I got fractured but whole and I remember the lady at the kiosk being SUPER pissy about it and glaring daggers at my mom for allowing me to get it.
Amazing.
I mean, if your mom was with you buying it lady probably assumed you were on the younger side. Not to mention for all its childish fart jokes it still has some very sexual stuff and content I wouldn't let a schoolkid play.
@@bluecanine3374* "I WAS LIKE 16" *
@@bluecanine3374 The full story is that I tried to buy it myself, she quite angrily pointed out the M rating on the box and told me to put it back, and THEN my mom bought it for me and the lady was probably angry that my mom was okay with me playing M rated games since she was clearly buying it for me.
Wow, what a Karen. I mean it would be different if you were like nine years old, but the fact that she was just silently judging your mom for buying a SIXTEEN YEAR OLD a South Park game, is so ridiculous.
Honestly, I’m kind of against any paid game that also has paid microtransactions, I believe that if you pay for a game, you deserve the full game. This is how things used to be before big companies got greedy and everyone would’ve been better off except the greedy companies if it had stayed that way.
Eh there just gonna get greedier
I agree it would be like if you bought a house use your imagination I know getting a house nowadays is almost impossible but if you bought one but it just gave you one room and you had to pay extra to buy a roof, kitchen, bathroom and hallway
You have stronger principles than I, though I certainly regret supporting some of those games. I definitely still regard it as greedy though, I just wish they'd make up for it with a great game.
Yeah, and even if you’re going to make microtransactions for the game, at least make it something that you can still get in the game, so the payment is just a shortcut instead of an actual paywall.
That "Midnight Mark" announcement felt so surreal it almost felt like I entered an alternate reality where Caddicarus did not exist.

Snow day is the only one i liked 😢
@@WetcameraincI only liked the first game and the final battle is way too hard I still haven’t beaten it.
I bet you are hating withoit having played the Game which is good
Snow day is basically Shrek the third
The 2D games take too many resources, especially when they’re trying to meet their paramount and MAX guidelines. They’re also not game developers first, this is the first time they made a 3D game, attempting to experiment is part of the process, they’ll know for next time. They should be allowed to pump out one sh!tter lol
There is something existentially comedic about them promising a CRED cosmetic pack as part of a season pass when the entire point of that episode was that it was a terrible drink only carried by a brand that made kids think they’re cool. Does that remind you of anything else?
...what?
haha
There's a reason they're listed as the 2 most "richest voice actors in the world…"
hi gabri
South Park in 3D doesn't even need to look this bad, with some cell shading and jerkier movements, it couldve looked much better. Seriously, who thought that realistic lighting looks even remotely good? It looks like unity shovelware
Exactly what I was thinking, it looks like a unity asset flip cash grab, thq makes good stuff what happened...
All it takes are 3 Google searches to understand the state of this game:
Stick of Truth: Obsidian in their prime, right around when they did New Vegas
Fractured but Whole: Ubisoft San Francisco, definitely have the resources to make a good game
Snow Day: Question LLC, a small indie developer with some cool games under their belt, but not in line with the triple a quality of the past two for sure
Which, nothing against Question LLC, they seem really cool! And the game looks great for an indie game! But between them being a smaller less equipped team and a seeming lack of effort put in from the South Park team it just seems like it was doomed from the start.
SoT came out 4 years after New Vegas tho
A part of me thinks one of the reasons this game was so hated was the change of art style and the lack of payoff to the ending of TFBH where the New Kid works with Butters as Professor Chaos.
God hoping for New Kid Villain arc will come in the next game!
I never understood why so many people season the ending of fbw as a true cliffhanger that was gonna be followed up on in the future. It was obvious meant to be a joke
They just decided to stop playing superheros, it’s that simple. Next time they play superheroes they will resume the plot
@@jeremybottoms7619 Even so, to certain fans, the idea of the New Kid potentially becoming a Villain Protagonist in the next game was a fun plot line potential
Nah, the game's just bad, it's boring, it LACKS content, and there's not much "south park" feel in it.
Don't even hate the style at all.
I don’t know how the fuck we went from SoT and FbW to this garbage. Matt and Trey seem to genuinely care about games and making their own be of good quality. Sucks that this is the follow up.
It’s just one suck let’s make sure next time they make a game back to 2d

i still wish they had done an RPG based on "good times with weapons", that could genuinely go hard
the 3D graphics are really off-putting here, the colors and shadows look so gloomy in a lot of the cutscenes and the look of the show just doesn't translate well to 3D at all
Yeah I remember everybody suggesting the theme for a third installment of the RPG South Park games be ninja themed.
A pity Matt Stone and Trey Parker don't seem to want to make a third RPG game to wrap up the story of "New Kid".
I KNOW RIGHT!?
the theme for third entry is RIGHT THERE! you could get really wacky trying to design everything to match the anime-eque style!

also just looking at the editing roll would show that its right and left no? ur editor left u high and dry there
I feel like what made Fractured But Whole work was that South Park had changed a good bit between it and Stick of Truth's release. There was enough to really shake things up. That really isn't the case here. Snow Day was arguably cooked because the source material was run dry. Not saying South Park fell off (it's a bit inconsistent tho). It's just that you can only make so many games based on the same thing before you realize there's little new to go on.
Edit: To be clear, the lack of original material is no excuse for the gameplay to be as repetitive as it is or the landscapes to be so barren.
Some suggest it shoulda been Good Times with Weapons based
South park between 2014-2017
I'm in the same boat, they basically have 1 last great premise to go off (Good Times With Weapons/Anime/Ninjas) but South Park really hasn't gone "Big" for a long while. Which seeing the serialization is just kinda odd, seems like a really missed opportunity to get really creative with it.
@@XxDyneXxFreeEnergyx A lot happened in those 3 years
What's worse is, that the fractured but whole hints at the new kid potentially becoming a villain, which could have worked perfectly with the other kids trying to keep them from becoming OP again.
i really love how the Black Friday trilogy basically was a big o game of thrones parody just to advertise the old game. that how clever the marketing was for that game

@@williamdaviddiazcuchimaque7511 Eso puede haber ayudado con el marketing porque, al igual que con MK1, no recuerdo que este juego se haya anunciado en absoluto.
I really hope Trey and Matt get to make the ACTUAL third South Park game in 2d instead of being forced to make one after signing that contract.
I still find it hilarious that all the kids are pissed at our character for getting too op the past two games
I think matt and trey shouldn't have signed that deal with paramount and saved themselves the thousands of dollars they've lost to sign with Ubisoft again
Trey, not Ryan.

Yeah, South Park should stick to 2D after the disaster that was South Park n64. It just seems jarring to see cutscenes being 2D and playing 3D.
I still thought this game was a remake of the n64 game because why else would they do a snow themed 3D game. But it's not a high quality remake of a game that was bad and instead just something new and terrible.
To be fair, if you quit trying something after one failed attempt a couple decades ago, you'll miss out on potentially good products
The way dude finishes his sentences hurtsehh
I kind of wish South Park as a franchise would disappear for a little bit. I'd like to see a movie version of Book of Mormon and for the duo to create something entirely new, as well.
I think the pressures of keeping up with the weight of the South Park name as well as Matt and Trey's approach to the series currently is just making everything feel a bit weak.
Just can it for a few years and come back strong
Their current contract is probably going to be their last one due to them saying in a interview a little while back around the time this contract was announced that they're halfway done with making the show. I feel like the newer episodes hasn't been bad, they've mostly been good
20:43 I think your headphones might be backwards. It sounds good to me.

I genuinely can't believe no one at any point in development said "wait, you want to cover every level in snow?...The entire screen is going to be white, there's going be nothing to look at or way to differentiate each level", it's jsut such an incredibly dumb idea for a South Park game which has so many background references and iconic locations.
Yeah, South Park is the name of a town, but the game doesn't really care about this fictional geographic entity. The intro cinematic couould have been about the characters sent in another place instead of being about a snowstorm and the rest of the game would still work.
South Park Snow day graphics looks so cool but if you look the gameplay looks very boring

It doesn't look good either. It just looks... wrong.
TLDW; Mark discovers rougelikes and enjoys them, however the first rougelike he plays fucking sucks
Thats basically what this video is honestly
would love to see him make a video on some roguelikes and lites, see his opinions on them (on one of his other channels of course)
Something I don’t get is why they didn’t go with Ninjas instead of Medieval Again.
Good point, it would have actually made sense to switch from 2D to 3D in-game to emphasize their imaginations taking over, and looking like they did when they were playing ninjas. Perfect setup for laughs too, like when Professor Chaos gets hit with a shuriken, then we see butters gushing blood from his eye freaking out.
Because this game seems like a experimentó and they are not gonna waste the ninjas with it.
Learning that Mark is younger than me feels weird.. I'm 25 and I still feel like I'm on the youngest end of people but I'm constantly reminded that nah, most people I interact with online are my age or younger.. I still feel like I'm 17.
I'm 17 and feel older than most people online.

Classic Ubisoft
With the small amount of levels, lack of checkpoints, random card perks, and trying to get players to replay already existing levels, a part of me wonders if this was intended to be a Roguelike at some point, but then that idea got scrapped. If that's what happened, it's a shame, because just having a lack of checkpoints and random upgrades isn't what makes Roguelikes fun. The genre thrives off of quick runs that encourage the player to try and try again until they get it right, not off of one boring level that takes an hour to get through. The random upgrades in Roguelikes are meant to encourage players to find new strategies and synergies, instead of just relying on what works like what happened in your playthrough. Progress also needs to happen very fast in a run so that the player has something to latch onto, rather than constantly feeling weak all the time. Honestly, if this game *had* gone the Roguelike route, with levels that only take about 20 minutes to beat but encourage multiple playthroughs, it maybe wouldn't have been too bad.
Buy a game called *_"snowday"_*
Angry because there is _only snow_
There really could have done more to at least differentiate the different areas though, I think the snow esthetic looks great but I can see how boring it can get after a while when there's little variation.

Guys, I have a theory
Stick of Truth = PvZ Garden Warfare
Fractured but Whole = Garden Warfare 2
Snow Day = Battle for Neighborville
BfN way bettet than Snow Day, it just got cut too short
No, because battle for neighborville was much better than this and is actually a good game. It's just different than the first two.
Neighborville definitely had more effort put into it than Snow Day
What are you talking about? Battle For Neighborville still has the same exact gameplay as the GW games, it just changes the artstyle (and has a much lower budget).
Snow Day is literally another type of game, that doesn't have anything in common with the other 2 games.

"South Park had a rough transition to 3D"
The fact that this came from THQNORDIC disappointed me, I liked the SpongeBob games and excited for Epic Mickey. Now, they made me step my expectations down. (Not to the level of the majority of PS2 License Games, just probably Disney Infinity because i actually enjoyed that.)
They should have just shelved this.

I don't think the toilet paper currency is a COVID thing/joke. If you live anywhere where it snows, people act like the world is ending and will buy out all tp, milk, eggs, etc so they don't run out if they're snowed in/lose power
Just what we needed... an HD remaster of South Park 64.
South Park: Snow Day, should've been Wildwest as the theme rather than the Fantasy.
Well, that's why I think South Park should continue in the branch/road of the "MOTHER-style RPGS"because that, for me is the style of game that South Park works in the best possible way from the beginning.
Oh and if you ask me what kind of theme the new possible South Park RPG should use,i think the best ones could be theme of Good Times With Weapons or Lil'Crime Stoppers.I think it would come out really cool for sure.❤
the rpgs also allow for fun battles and vaiety of enemies, and excuses to make unique scripted events like when you battle gnomes while your parents are fucking
It’s funny because the new kid became ACTUALLY overpowered. Like he could fart himself back in time. Him and Kenny are the only two with any powers.

Wild that they decided to go with a Covid allegory for a game released in 2024 especially considering how well they already did it when it was relevant.
They became lazy sellouts
Maybe this game was in development hell for a while

This is almost like Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League, as the game was bashed for what they did to Batman as it was meant to be Kevin Conroy's last role before his passing, before the news of his true last projects were revealed.
A South Park game inspired by the paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series could work in my opinion
Honestly I feel like this game could've been something like pvz's garden warfare where you do have a story mode with AI like you have here but you can play on previous maps in a multiplayer mode and I can definitely see capture the point or payload push in Snow day and if they have to incorporate the card mechanics have the players need to play the story mode to unlock various cards or use their TP or whatever currency they have spare to buy new ones they can both use in the story mode and in multiplayer like in garden warfare where you can unlock different variants of plants abilities or whatever and after such n such amount of time or at the beginning of combat or after some form of checkpoint (like maybe after a point is taken for example) the teams vote to add certain cards in replacement of previous ones you can vote to keep some cards in play or switch them out for others depending on how the game is going and bith teams can do this giving dynamic battles as the game progresses. there's alot of ways snow day could've done better but instead they just proceeded to have it fall somewhat flat literally just make it like garden warfare and you'd be good it's a replayable game with cards various players can randomly have to change up the battle for a time there's so much squandered potential
Wow this is a way cooler idea
@@randyking2057I'm glad you agree throughout the entire review I just kept thinking of garden warfare especially how the mechanics and gameplay were very similar at least at a glance it really shows how Snow day was kinda rushed in most regards the graphics are good and smooth and whatnot but the gameplay elements just aren't up to par and seeing how alot of snow days gameplay is done better in garden warfare proves how much it was just rushed and wasn't cared about all that much with only a singular campaign to play and the game only having card collecting and upgrading as any form of padding that you can't even really flaunt because there's no online which it really could have easily (again compared to garden warfare snow day could've easily done the same online battle mode and it would've been just as good) it's just disheartening seeing all it could've easily been yet it isn't
I grew up in middle school when South Park was brand-new and they were banking off its sudden explosive popularity with merch like T-shirts and of course videogames... The N64 FPS game was... ok, but largely forgettable as it was clear they never playtested it since like the final boss was just about impossible to beat without invincibility. Once the Stick of Truth was out decades later, it felt like they finally got it right making a South Park game that actually FELT like you were playing the show.
This... It feels like they were so focused on making a trilogy and with the first 2 games being in 2D, they did the common and obvious thing from the 90's with "instead of a South Park 3, let's make it a South Park 3D!" like they did with other franchises like Earthworm Jim... with... seemingly similar results.
A shame.
I went shopping with my family at Walmart, and in each console’s game cases they always had it in the farthest to left left column in the farthest to the left shelf on the top row, to the point where my family HAD to notice [what made it worse was that my five year old sister was pointing at the games and shouting the names out loud]

I like that it's 3D, personally. Sticking to 2D forever would be limiting in terms of what they can do game design wise, but they definitely should've went with a cell shaded look.
Disagree. Its southpark. 2.5d max
It does look cool how they tried to replicate the movements and faces of the show in 3D though I don't get how Matt and Trey thought it was a necessary step for their next game to do something different.
@@Donovarkhallum I think that's closed minded. I love SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom, and that game literally could not exist as a 2D game, but it would have to be that to replicate the show's style perfectly in the way that a lot of South Park fans want for this game. It's just really limiting to view licensed games in that way, so I can’t agree.
I like that South Park tried going 3D again, I just wish the execution of the 3D visuals and obviously the game itself was better. I'm sure South Park could pull off a great looking 3D visual style for a game. The new intro already does literally that.
that xbox hit and run style game probably could've worked if it was released.
@@_Tzer That game is a huge reason why I'm all for a 3D South Park game. Literally my dream South Park game, and there's no way it would work nearly as well in 2D.
0:09 you went to high-school at 12?
In the UK, high school starts in the US equivalent of 7th grade.
he said that you skip middle school in ireland
its like a rougelike made by someone who's never played a rougelike before.
20:40 I'm confused... Kyle and Eric's voices DID come on their respective sides here for me. I'm not using headphones, I'm using my stereo speakers, but it's playing the audio in the right tracks for me on your video at least. I even had to watch that part twice to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding what you were saying.
In my opinion they should of had a game based around owning a restaurant. Be it Cartman Burger or Dikin Baus.
oh thatd be really funny actually. like it starts normally until shenanigans get your restaurant involved with bigger and more dangerous scenarios
I don’t think this game is worth a platinum despite from I heard is an easy platinum.
this game really brought be back to a simpler time where you either got decent games or games like these and there were many, nick toons unite, fairy odd parents, teen titans. licensed videogames that wasn't the best or wasn't the worst but you played them for the fun hanging with friends or seeing your beloved IP in a different light or interactable. I've seen an interview with the creators saying they wanted a more simple multiplayer game since one show creator already got the game type he is into which is rpgs where the other likes multiplayer. yes this game isn't as good as the others but if you want a game that feels like that play that. but for someone that likes rouge likes and multiplayer games where I can just enjoy time with my siblings or friends this is exactly what I was looking for a game i can beat in a day with my buds and experience it in a genre i love as well. I hope the dlc makes it more enjoyable for the mass audience that didn't like it but for me I'm glad I got this game and hope to have my option help anyone else that felt like I did. yes only 3 weapons per type but play a rouge like its usually from 3 to 6 characters to choose from and the dame repetitive cards its just the genre we are in but for what they made and being the first they made I definitely enjoy it and still have it downloaded on my ps5
I saw the trailer with the 3D and immediately knew it was gonna flop. Especially since I saw almost 0 advertisement for it after
Matt and Trey must've really phoned it in whith this game. Because so far, nothing about this game feels like a step up for the first two. They strayed too far away from the established formula.
Even the title "Snow Day" feels generic when "Stick of Truth" and "Fractured But Whole" felt like unironic appropriate titles for a South Park Game
While the hate this game is getting does sort of bring me down, I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed. _South Park_ has been running for a very long time, so Matt and Trey might be running out of ideas for other parts of the show's franchise aside from the show itself since there's always new ideas to implement as it stays up to current events. I'm actually starting to notice that the amount of hype that was brought up for this game makes it feel more like a cash grab for the _South Park_ franchise if anything (kind of like how _Daria_ has a game called _Daria's Inferno_ and it was poorly received), especially considering how the collector's edition is like, $200. The talking Cartman toilet paper holder is funny though.
The AI can't revive you?
Remember Republic Commando... On the original Xbox?
A game which gave you 3 intelligent AI teammates, who would actually revive you if they got the opportunity?
ive always been revived when downed only a couple times on hard difficulty have the ai failed to revive me im on series x
they can revive you lol they do it all the time
There already exists a third South Park RPG. It’s a mobile game called South Park: Phone Destroyer. Play that instead of this, it’s completely free.
It should have kept the main rule to the first 2 make it feel like a South park episode
I thought it was alright, underwhelming but alright for a $30 game, I don't think the 3d transition was bad like everyone says, I actually think if they do another game, I'd like for it to be 3d again but more open world
