Gosh !, i didn't even realize that i just got brainwashed by the Indonesian government, i really thought OPM (Organisasi Papua Merdeka) was a really bad organization that kills a lot of Indonesian people in Papua. I mean almost all of the news in Indonesia said so. It's so fresh to see perspective of other people in different country on this issue 🙌.
Just to be clear: the Papuan resistance - be they officially part of the OPM or not - is very violent. The thing is that they have excellent reasons to be violent, namely the fact that indonesia is trying to exterminate them.
^ They fight violence with violence. Resistance is waged as terrorism and excessive violence, when in reality they are usually retailiating and don’t have the same war machines to deal the same amount of damage they receieved.

It's important for all modern Indonesian progressives to support wholeheartedly the cause of Papuan Independence, the failures of the 65' progressives to build a genuine people's movement and got stuck in a limbo of sucking up to the government (Sukarno) was the main reason why the 3rd largest communist party in the world got wiped out in a matter of a year, and why we're stuck in this hell hole. It's the task of all genuine progressives now to rectify these mistakes and rebuild along the genuine mass line and national democratic struggle, which includes the democratic struggles of papua!. Great video as always boys, long live the national democratic struggle!

So glad to see you make a video about Indonesia and West Papua. I heard the author of The Jakarta Method years ago on a podcast talking about the Indonesian holocaust, and I remember learning about West Papua around the same time and seeing so many similarities to Kashmir and Palestine... and yet prior to that I had never heard anything about these massacres in Indonesia or the occupation of West Papua. Thanks for helping shine a light on the cause of the West Papuans
I love how you are both the most serious journalists and piss takers at the same time. Only an Aussie could possibly make this work! I'm suprised you didn't try and run with the bow being from Cartels in Mexico given the brand name😆
Since Soeharto was removed from power, the Indonesian government has allocated a significant annual budget to rebuild its 'connection' with the Papuan people. Under the seventh president, this budget was significantly increased. How much? Papua and West Papua have consistently received some of the largest regional budgets in Indonesia due to the Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds. However, much of this money has been mismanaged or embezzled by corrupt local officials, leading to widespread discontent among ordinary Papuans. Because these financial efforts have largely failed to address the root causes of unrest, the government has increasingly relied on asymmetric warfare against the Papua independence movement. This includes military and intelligence operations to suppress separatist groups, alongside restricting media access to the region. While asymmetric warfare aims to minimize direct engagement, its a warfare that always leads to significant collateral damage, including harm to civilians, displacement, and disruptions to daily life, exacerbating tensions in the region. This is not a simple matter of good versus bad. The Indonesian government's actions represent the enforcement of sovereignty and the rule of law, while the Papua independence movement embodies a struggle for self-determination and human rights. Both sides reflect deeply entrenched and complex issues that cannot be reduced to a binary moral judgment.
Excellent video boys. Indonesia (then United States of Indonesia), with the full backing of USA and Australia, invades Wast Papua in 1962 and annex it in 1969. Since the occupation, over 500,000 indigenous Papuans are killed by the occupying Indonesian security forces, and indigenous population fell from 98% to 48%. Following companies operates in West Papua: • BP (British multinational company) has natural gas rights in West Papua (Tangguh facility that supplies 35% of Indonesia’s gas). • Unilever (British multinational company) is one of the world’s largest buyers of palm-oil and much of it is sourced from West Papua (palm-oil is in pretty much everything we eat). • Freeport-McMoRan (US mining company) owns the Grasberg mine has the world’s largest gold reserves and the second largest copper reserves (largest supplier of copper to Australia). • Thales Group (French multinational weapons company) supplies weapons to the Indonesian security forces. • Ziyan UAS (Chinese arms manufacturer) supplies military drones the Indonesian security forces.

You can learn more about the Indonesian Political purge in The Act of Killing by Joshua Oppenheimer. Nationalist gangs were and still are openly supported by the Indonesian government, and committed a huge amount of the murders. Some of the most prolific killers are still alive and hailed as national heroes. One of them is the main “character” in The Act of Killing.
Indonesian here, i'm making this comment to thank you guys for making this silly little video. I first learned about West Papua extensively cause of FriendlyJordies' video year earlier and felt conflicted cause whilst i still was proud being Indonesian, the knowledge of what my government is doing in West Papua left me writhe with guilt. While i'm generally still not too fervorous with my nationalism and identity as an Indo (My handle is literally IndonesianFemboy and LGBT is taboo here, I'm not gay or anything i'm just a weeb), i still was attached to it cause it was my home. But still felt some kind of lingering doubt and guilt whenever i encounter topics like nationaliism, such in school standing still whilst listening the national anthem in ceremonies, and unfortunately stumbling on posts or forums in social media discussing West Papua that sort of generalize and antagonize Indonesians, which left me feeling quite sad. Of course, comparing a mean comment to War Crimes is insane, but i think you get the point. I did rationalize and eventually came to just take pride in the positive aspects of my nationality, whilst also recognizing the atrocities committed by my country. That seems obvious, but it did genuinely bug me and even still felt guilty about it as didn't have anyone to reinforce that rationalization, as i didn't have anyone to talk to about it, didn't want to talk about it family or friends because i consume much more western/international media than them or sever connections, and felt too embarrased to talk about in social media because i was from the oppressing country. I genuinely thank you guys so much because of this video, i can't necessarily describe it but the comedic lighthearted tone and charisma you guys incorporated in this video sort of lifted that doubt. I know this comment is inherently selfish in nature, as the topic here is that of the atrocities West Papuans endure, and here comes a drama queen talking about how he felt conflicted cause he has a identity crisis, but i'm making this comment to express genuine gratitude for this video and hope this reaches out to any Indonesian that may be facing a situation similar to mine. That's all i've got to say really.
Thank you for sharing a valuable perspective from Indenesia! As an Asean native who also has a passion for English, I resonated with you on the part that learning and processing the many wrongdoing of my country is very hard, but is one that you must come to terms with. I love how you can walk up to their embassy, give them a stupid binder with stupid pictures, then find those pictures everywhere on the internet being used to try and convince the indonesian people that the person in the stupid pictures is a terrorist. The fact that the embassy actually felt like it would be worth their time to give them to someone is insane to me.
There were probably protocols involved so they had to do something, which is still ridiculous lmao
To be fair to them, it seems they were being described as "reporters," not terrorists. Still funny that they put those ridiculous pictures up though.
I imagine embassy got paid a hefty bonus for playing along with the government's schizophrenia.
It's Maroubra, surely it's not the first time a seemingly mentally ill conspiracy theorist has approached them. It was thr first time that they actually published it.

Knowledge is power. Let other folks know too. (Their documentary when they visited is really good too, and heartbreaking)
It's always important to know the truth.
I mean. They could have some pretty bad actions they’ve taken. But as a rule, Authoritarians are unreliable.

Sorry I can't ignore the fact that the Indonesian media used the cod black ops 2 intro as their intro
