Sorry about the occasional audio issues, travelling across America right now for a secret project so I'm doin' a lot of this on the fly, hope you enjoy the video anyway!
Ironic how the story of Bendy involves a boss who didn’t treat his employees kindly, and then you see what happened to the studio after the first Bendy game came out…………makes you think!
Exactly that is why i'm satisfied with BatDR, instead of rushing it like othe mascot horror games, they delayed the game like, 3 times, and I feel it was worth it, even tho the hype was almost gone by that time
@Michael Quaid not really tbh The original games were simple so it didn't take a long time to make them, but since sister location each game has become bigger and bigger, Security Breach took 2 years of development (I think it should have been longer), also its the lore that has been keeping FNaF alive its the biggest draw to the franchise.
I have an idea: One day, Bendy was near the Ink machine, and then the Ink Demon crawled up. Bendy, was masturbating, and the Ink Demon, started too. The Ink Demon got his Ink all over Bendy. He then exclaimed "Im the Ink Demon! And I want to be.... inside of you. Bendy then said "I always knew you were alive, I want to shove you up by Kawaii Ass! The Ink Demon then shoved his head up Bendy's tight ass continusely making a squirting sound. Bendy could feel the Ink Demon inking inside him! Then, the Ink Demon continued up his round ass. Bendy exclaimed "Wait! My ass can not fit this much!". Poor Bendy squirmed, and got Ink all over the place. Bendy was well and truly full, and died.

My favorite part of the Bendy franchise is Henry’s character-specifically the existential crisis of his character/story. Henry appears to remember each Cycle, where others do not. You called out his voice acting in the first game-his strange lack of emotion and reaction to certain things can be explained by the fact he’s done this so many times before. It’s a neat detail.
Yeah, he felt a lot less monotone in earlier versions of the game, which makes me think they made him sound like that when they wanted to do the infinite loop plot. ...or they just wanted to re-record his lines and it ended up like this, who knows.
@@matt4200 as a fan of BioShock, I’m really happy to see Bendy take as many cues from it. I’ve joked about how Bendy 3 will just straight-up be BioShock, but I wouldn’t even be mad if it was.
@@wumpus976 imagine a bioshock like game where all abilities are based on toon force characteristics Probably wouldnt work for first person 3d, but they idea alone entertains me
@@matt4200 I personally hope that’s the case. They could even use film reels to explain how the powers work, in a similar way to the instructional videos for Plasmids and Vigors in the BioShock series.
He's kind of toughened up as the years went on. Jumpscares rarely even phase him anymore. Guess that's what happens when you're exposed to the same shit over and over again
Fun fact: In one of the dlcs for Boris and the Dark Survival, you can unlock Sammy Lawrence as a playable character. However the biggest issue is that you cannot run as him, you have to hopefully be near one of those holes in the wall to teleport to a different location, which can screw you over if you are getting chased by Bendy or an enemy and there isn't a hole in the nearest wall.
I’m not a big jumpscare person, but I really do have to say their jumpscare in the first chapter was perfect. They really lured you into a false sense of security. Obviously going into a horror game you’re going to be on guard, and so then with the weak jumpscares with the board and the cutouts you’re like “oh is that it, that’s not too bad”. And with the boarded up doorway at the end it’s cool because it’s not s cutscene you’re still in control. So you’re like oh what’s going on and go to the boards to take a closer look and then they just absolutely wreck you. That’s how jumpscares should be utilized imo
I think we can all agree that the fact that Bendy and the Dark Revival was as good as it was when it released after everything that happened beforehand is nothing short of a miracle
All it took for them to do it right was taking their time instead of rushing it as mascot horror games usually do. They delayed it for years, but it shows, the final product shows its effort. Glad they figured out taking their time shows good results. And kicking Mike Mood out the staff.
@@miserirken you innocent soul. In a recent BaTDR patch they put him into the credits, because he he has been working on the game. Recall the edgy poem Mike left in the files.
@@miserirken I'm just happy they didn't cave into the impatient nature of the fanbase and instead just focused on making an actual game. As for Mike, he's back on the team unfortunately. He was the one to announce the Archives update on Steam and was added to the credits as the lead programmer.
I appreciate Mark mentioning his preference for games you don't have to focus too hard on. The best reviewers aren't the ones you always agree with, but the type of reviewer who's preferences are clear and who's opinions are consistent. Hearing that someone enjoyed or disliked something is completely useless if you have no context for what sorts of things they normally enjoy/dislike.
0:57 There I am Gary! There I am! On a more serious note, it's quite insane to see one of the games I made appearing in your video, and in case anyone asks, this is not like something I made with a serious intent, it was a remake of a old fnaf clone that I used to find funny. Looking at how that game is deep bellow everything else, I am quite impressed to see that bad boy up there in your video, even if meant to represent how fnaf fan games tend to be nothing special, It still makes me quite happy to see it going around!
This series means a lot to me even if it's flawed, I guess it's sort of a comfort game in a way? Coming back to it all these years later made me remember why I loved it so much and it's just kind of what I'm a fan of now.
It really was a Hello Neighbour situation to me, everybody played it a ton for a little while, then a majority people stopped caring and latched on to whatever trend was next. (Except Hello Neighbour was a janky mess and seems really boring to sit through)

im really exited to be hearing your opinion on the franchise, i personally think that the first game had a lot of potential but flailed in its execution.
@Mr Exeptionel yea dark revival is amazing, the only real issue I got with it is that bendy rarely showed up, being replaced with a black and white screen
I actually liked the first more, but it could be nostalgia talking. Anyways, it's just too... unique, the second one has a lot of things, i prefered when it was more simple (i love both games though)
I loved the concept. Everyone has heard animators say they want to "bring the characters to life", so a story where someone means it *literally* and does it via botched human sacrifice..... its dark yet clever and funny. With such an easy to digest idea, you can go all out with the execution. Also, am I the only one who wants one of these "humans turned into monsters" games to make the main character a monster too? You can't tell me hiding from far scarier threats whilst trying to cling to a fading sense of identity and sanity doesn't sound like a dope horror experience.
5:12 to the editor, I think Mark was referring to games like Paper Mario, Wind Waker, Okami, Viewtiful Joe or even the two South Park Games. Games that came out almost a decade or 2 but hold up pretty well because of their art style.
I’d definitely love to see you cover more of the “Mascot Horror” genre in the future considering how FNAF is a recurring topic on your channel, it feels like a natural way of going from one topic to another.
I know bendy isn't perfect, but I can't deny how much its done for me in my life. from the story to the art direction, its had a big influence on who I am today. huge respects to dark revival for staying true to the series roots and not doing the whole "family friendly mascot horror" thing. I think when it comes to the whole "is dark revival a repeat or a sequel," thing, I think its a bit of both. it happens after ink machine but because of the whole cycle thing its kinda like a repeat.
i feel like i’m one of the only few that likes BOTH games. even if it’s just childhood nostalgia, something about it is just so lovable and charming. sucks when a majority seems to think it’s a bit boring.
14:30 I haven't played this game, but the visuals and audio of this tunnel draw my mind to the perspective of an infant being birthed, more-so then just an escape. In my eyes, that's an effectively unsettling implication. You've been reborn from the ink, and are now an undying part of it, like the dude in the mask. That idea that each death means you'll come back a little more like that guy is far more effective then a simple rewind.
17:05 While I agree that the lack of a planned narrative is concerning, I also have to give the devs kudos, because I'm like 60% certain "unexpectedly popular one-off character that overtakes the lead" is also Alice's in-game backstory. It's also the origin of Fleischer Studios' Betty Boop, who I'm guessing Alice Angel is based off.
*ok tbh I didn't know for sure if the planned out thing was true or not just assumed by the fact they said it was all planned out but knowing thanks to lost bits and game theory that they cut out a giant thing of Bendy was originally going to be Joey and went to go watch the 4 hour video he mentioned in this one and actually got conformation in the first like 5 mins*
BATIM was what got me interested in seriously pursuing a potential career in animation. I was pretty young when I learned about BATIM and I was interested in what the historical setting of the game did to influence the game, as my dad is a history dork and passed that down to me. I became fascinated with the history surrounding the rubber hose style animation, the different businesses and how it evolved through time. For the first time animation wasn't just a cool form of moving art but a very unique method of story telling. So even with its flaws, this series will always be special to me.
This is the first video I've seen posted after Dark Revivals launch to both talk about the drama and actually give credit to the person that did the most work for their exposure, respect.
The bendy books are actually pretty good (and actually confirmed to be canon unlike a certain animatronic franchise that never gives a straight answer on that) I’d love to see you do a video on them.
@@MayoAndChip Yeah, I heard that, glad that’s rectified but it is frustrating that it took all the way up to this new series for anything to have explicit canonicity or non-canonicity.
These are pretty much my exact thoughts. There's a little more praise I would personally give to this series, particularly the music and (Non-Henry) voice acting, but otherwise I agree with almost everything here. I consider myself a Bendy fan. The first game failed to pull me in, but when I came back for Dark Revival, I realized how much potential this franchise really has, especially now that they've expressed interest into moving towards an older demographic. Dark Revival was by no means perfect, but in this sea of overly-cryptic, extremely barebones mascot horror games, it was nice to get a game that felt complete, competent, and polished. It was also nice to get told an actual story instead of bits of a story that may or may not pay off later. All in all, I'm excited for the future of the franchise. I love the characters, the world, and the story that's been set up here, and I think things will really only go up from here.
The reason that the dark revival is split into chapters is due to it originally being planned to release in segments (Like the 1st game) However they realized that they would rather take longer to release a full game, Hence the delay
Actually bucko, they wanted to separate it into different chapters for that sweet sweet chance at money🎉. The game could've been one full chapter instead of segmenting at it, as well as the layoffs/internal disputes with Kindly/meatly Beast studios....😢
What got me into the Bendy franchise is the mostly the designs of the in universe cartoon characters. I made so much art of the characters from the series like Bendy x Alice, fan posters and recent ones like the new characters Carly and ship ahoy Dudley. I'm so happy Bendy and the Dark Revival wasn't a massive flop despite the controversy at kindly beast. This franchise introduced me to such big figures in the community like Dagames, CG5, and so much other fan artists and I thank it for that. I'll always love Bendy and all his characters
I remember seeing the fandom's incredible growth in its hey day. Chapters 1 and 2 caught everyone's attention really quickly for the exact reasons you highlighted. Unfortunately, the theories were some of the most popular content, and I think it's clear the developers saw that and said "oh okay we'll lean into that." The problem is they're game devs, not writers, they had no idea how to successfully create and solve a good mystery. By the time they realized this problem, it was far too late to save BatIM. The fans, meanwhile, realized the product wasn't what they thought it was, so they moved on fast. I can't even say that Dark Revival would've saved the franchise if it'd been released at the time. The fans had mostly moved on. Bendy was a fun mascot horror, great in its initial release even, but it lost what made it special too quickly. Dark Revival tells me that the devs seemed to have learned their lesson, so hoepfully their future efforts will be what Bendy could've been
If you want a genuine reason why bendy got so big, not just getting attention, but held a fanbase for so long, it’s the fan songs. I know for a lot of people Bendy fan songs were the most popular pieces of media related to the series. Quite a lot are genuine bangers that were able to keep bendy fans waiting and occupied for the next chapter or game. While this is true of not only Bendy, it still was a huge part of the fanbase to the point where with every new chapter added to batim, a fan song was added as an easter egg that you could listen to on the radios found across each chapter. I suggest listening to Find the Keys, Gospel of Dismay, Art of Darkness, Face Reality, Welcome Home, Can’t Be Erased, All Eyes on Me, and while not the best, definitely most popular: Build Our Machine with a whopping 170 million views if you want to see where all this popularity can be attributed to. (One interesting note is the youtube channel apart of the company that made Poppy Playtime did a Minecraft animation of “Build Our Machine” earning it nearly double the views, which technically makes it the most popular piece of Bendy media).
Mark when talking about bendy and the ink machine: why when you die do you spawn right where you left off??? Mark when talking about Boris and the dark survival: why when you die, you have to start the level all over again???
Not that weird at all when you really that it took 5 YEARS just to finish BATDR so of course they'll have a plenty amount of time to think about what works and what doesn't
There are several Indie Horror games with Mascot Horror. Gotta love how LS Mark is able to talk about these like Bendy and The Ink Machine and also FNAF
Man in my personal opinion, This game is great. The art style, the characters, the music, the FEEL, I just love it so much. I really like the designs of the characters as well, Bendy is iconic ( you are just flat out wrong about him being compared to Huggy Wuggy ). Sammy Lawrence is one of my favorite characters in the whole game, And the Projectionist looks so cool.
Something I would like to mention is how every chapter after the 2nd in Bendy and the Ink Machine tends to deviate from the main focus of the game. Chapter 1 sets up the studio and shows us the ink machine. Chapter 2 shows us that the ink is sentient and how it has taken the studio employees. Then every chapter after 2 proceeds to do its own thing and not expand on any past things. The reason I like the story of Chapters 1-2 so much is because it’s slowly explaining what’s going on. Slowly revealing how this place became like this and the rules of how the ink actually works, which the other chapters barely do, if at all.
I love how no matter what clip of a markiplier let’s play you use, you always change the video of the facecam to the one video where he got all emotional. I think it might even be the same shot every time too. Cracks me up
I remember watching Phisnom's stream where he played all the chapters while dealing with the bad game design and gamebreaking bugs, and another one stream where he tried to understand the poorly written story, the franchise reputation was pretty much shattered; so when Dark Revival released eveyone was surprised of how much of an improvement it was, seeing that the devs understood their limits and worked around them rather than attempt to unnecessarily expand on them. Also, the Slicer (the door ghost) appears when you oppen the crate and free her, it's a cool easter egg because she only appears when you free her and now you have to deal with your action.
I do not understand the running gag of using Markiplier footage with him crying in the webcam. I don't know if it's them mocking Mark, having fun with him, or whatever. All I know is it's always pretty funny to me
BATDR singlehandedly got me to love the game, i wasn’t too interested in BATIM before but they somehow managed to make BATDR able to explain everything better than BATIM and have a great story. And the ink demon. That design is amazing
While the game themselves are not perfect, there are so many aspects of this franchise that make being a fan of this series worthwhile (to me anyway). From the unique cartoon aesthetic, to the various interesting side characters. From the (flawed) story filled with potential, to Bendy himself (seriously, he is one of my favorite characters simply from his design alone). So again, while these games aren’t perfect, they certainly possess enough value for me to confidently say that I am proud to be a fan of Bendy. 🖤🤍💛 Oh and also, the fan music is AMAZING. Build Our Machine is one of my favorite songs of all time even without having BATIM for context. I’d highly recommend anyone who hasn’t to take a dive into the realm of Bendy music. You (hopefully) won’t regret. 🎶
I'm not a big fan of the games but the fan music is amazing. Gospel of Dismay, Pretty in Ink, Instruments of Cyanide, Bring Her to me, Tender Memoring and Face Reality are the ones I recommend the most.
I... Just... LOVE BENDY! I have a huge collection of figurines based on it that I made myself, I liked the setting and style so much that it was this game that inspired me to create. I learned the fan songs by heart, I went through part 1 and bought 2 as soon as it came out. To be honest, I never finished playing it because I'm pretty bad at games, BUT I won't spoil it for myself. And it all started with the fact that my friend showed me the mobile game "run bendy!".
If these retrospectives become a regular series, I really hope we get a video on Baldi's Basics. It's pretty much had the same fate as Bendy, but I think it would be interesting to see your thoughts on it! Anyways, wonderful video as always!
im actually sad that the devs failed the game and franchise at the end of ink machine because bendy and the dark revival is genuinely just a really good game but after the first no one wants to give it a chance anymore
If anything, these kind of videos help to people see the actual potential in this franchise, and how actually good BatDR is. It sucks controversy and bad development took over this IP, but i feel time is actually vindicating Bendy, even if slowly.
@@_plg mike mood wasn’t the only issue sadly, themeatly and bookpost or whatever their called were also complicit. i want to enjoy this franchise but a great many peoples lives were greatly set back and harmed, and i just can’t
I was very pleasantly surprised to see a good ending to this video. What usually happens to devs like this is there games end up becoming really bad or there studio shuts down. I hope they keep making games in the future
13:17 I'm happy you mentioned the ink man watching over! I remember this during my gameplay and never saw anyone experience it in videos / comment online. Such a creepy moment
I Absolutely Love *Bendy and the Ink Machine and the Dark Revival* as One of THE Best of the Best Horror Survival Games of All Time! The Ink Demon, Jumpscares, Ink Humanoids, Ink Monsters, Art Styles, Bendy himself, Levels and the Voice Actors and Actresses are all Super Incredible, Amazing, Wonderful and Fantastic to play! Just can't get enough!
I still love the running joke that every time you use a clip of Markiplier, Markiplier’s facecam is always him crying. Subtle jokes like that make me laugh a lot more than in your face jokes
I like Bendy Franchise despite knowing a bit of the controversy involving it still holds in button my heart. I love its art style, story, and overall design of Bendy looking like no arm-body Demon, looking like a Human, to looking more like an actual demon.
Okay you’re a human who fights a dark evil creature with a silly tall cartoon sidekick while uncovering complicated lore………………. So this is horror kingdom hearts?
I was really into Bendy just watching the playthroughs on RUclips, but then got really pissed at the Chapter 5 ending and just lost track of it. I didn't know about the drama or Showdown Bandit getting erased. Another great summary LS Mark.
So I think that the whole thing with the artsyle is that, though nice, it was somewhat doomed from the start, as they would find themselves having to work with the same color pallete over and over again. Honestly, I could kind of understand why it is so samey. Glad Dark Revival changed it up. Might have been a bit difficult to do that.
I’ve always been confused when people said this was their favorite game. Like, ok? You like waking sims, and boring fetch quests with a filter. How fun
The cartoon aestethic looks cool in paper though. And it would have actually been cool if BATIM used it correctly and wasn't so lazy. But BATDR uses the art-style correctly and it looks amazing.
@@wutrudoin true, and I’m happy that BATDR was made, the story is much better. I still wish that beast bendy or whatever it is now was not as.. well muscly. just reminds me of 2016 fanart lol
i could say the same thing About fnaf. Like, ok? You like jumpscare sims, and a messy and weird lore who is impossible to understand and is 90% made by the fandom. How fun.
I liked dark revival, but it still baffles me that John Wolfe disliked it because he said it was “too similar to Bio-Shock”. And, sure. I can see it, but barely. Its style is still so unique, and though Dark Revival has some problems, but it was still solid! His biggest complaint was that the story was also too similar- but like… there are only so many stories humans can tell, and JDS is a relatively small team, cut them some slack, ya know?
With Mark talking about how he likes worlds forced into a cycle for longer than they should be and why death in games need consequences, It makes me wonder if he’s ever played Darksouls
I'm just a fan of the franchise because of the unique artstyle. That's literally it. Story and gameplay was inoffensive and servicible, but the artstlye is just fantastic.
I've been a fan of Bendy since the first game. It's unique, it has a beautiful style and interesting storyline, and you can see with Dark Revival how the devs put all their hard work into it. Nearly literally grew an amazing community and with Bendy helped bring some youtubers to the spotlight like CG5 and Superhorrorbro. On the other hand, the irl studio issues, the firing of people, the rumors that were going around. . .it almost killed it. But Dark Revival not only 'revived' the old fans, but brought new ones in as well. I'm excited to see what comes next.
19:59 “the guy might as well just hit me in the wrist and point me in the right direction, it’s just a game of trial and error” man you’re REALLY gonna hate Roblox doors
Mark's reviews of these games are honestly pretty true when you think about them. No doubt he going to get harassed by angry fans though. I wish people could just share their opinions on something without others harassing them for their opinion. If we all had the same opinion on everything, life would be boring.

I held off on this vid since it came out and.... I loved seeing your take on a series I absolutely adore! Since this vid came out they're currently working on Bendy: The Cage, Bendy in Silent City, Lone Wolf, and B3NDY as well as a movie. Though since it's just 3 people working on all this, hopefully it works out as well as BATDR.
I think you missed the point of Slasher, the ghost monster in Dark Revival. She’s an enemy you don’t have to release with opening the box triggering her release. Once she’s released she will, other than the attack when leaving that initial room, show up at random at any point to quickly attack you and leave. I quite like her addition due to the optionality of her addition, as well as how funny it can be having her manifest in front of you.
I like Slasher and how optional she is. You don’t have to open the box but it’s a big ass box in a room in a horror game so OF COURSE you are going to open it! The first time at least.
I’m rewatching this after the announcement of the new Bendy game: The Cage. I hope it turns out alright, as I’ve been a huge fan of this franchise for years
31:55 I remember being super bummed out when hearing this game was cancelled cause I was super into it when it came out (even still own some merch for it lol). I liked it for the same reasons everyone loved Bendy, the atmosphere was neat, it had some spooky moments, and it had an interesting premise. Makes me wonder what things would've been like if they let this project continue, and if it would've been as successful as Bendy.
I've been watching your videos for almost a year now, and I like you as a critic and how you make a good argument and seem to actually know what you are talking about. I'm just saying I would love it if maybe you made a sort of guide on becoming a good critic or something like that.
The narrative is frustratingly all-over-the-place, but the ending IS a fun idea if it was executed better. A lot of the best horror media sticks with you because it uses some twist to re-contextualize everything. It'll string you along with false hope, then intentionally dash it all at the end, leaving you with nothing but a lingering sense of.. well... _horror._ The problem is, achieving a successful gut-punch twist requires a LOT of planning and set-up to make it work, and this game clearly didn't have that.
My favourite Bendy thing was after the dark revival most of the actors did a fun music half hour video on DAgames's channel. It was a mock radio and covers thing and it was amazing! My favourite one was the last one that I won't spoil...
definitely not underrated since back in the day it was literally everywhere. It just isn't popular like it used to be, but that's normal: mascot horror games die pretty fast if they don't release new games or merchandise in short time
As allways - great job on the video Mark! This was, at least for me, timed PERFECTLY - because a month or two ago I also decided to learn more about Bendy & The Ink Machine franchise despite never being interested in it beforehand…and, surprisingly to myself, I’m a big fan of it now! Which probably has to do with the fact that I watched the Dark Revival playthrough (I suck at gaming ngl) first, and then the original Ink Machine second My friends said that I probably shouldn’t have done that, but honestly? The second game really is better, and I’m not sure I’d be as invested in this franchise if I started learning about it since the beginning Also I finished "Dreams come to life” and "The lost ones" like four days ago and…not the best books I’ve ever read, but it was a pretty enjoyable experience! I like how the first book focuses on the characters and their backstories (like Buddy Lewek, especially that reveal in the end and the explanation on how Sammy became this inky monster) and the second book focusing more on the lore of, you guessed it - the lost ones Haven’t read the "Sent from above” and "Fade to black" though because these two are yet to be published in my native language and, even though I know English - I’m not going to sit there and translate like 300+ pages…so I guess I’ll have to wait for your upcoming BATIM books video!
Sorry about the occasional audio issues, travelling across America right now for a secret project so I'm doin' a lot of this on the fly, hope you enjoy the video anyway!

The problem with mascot horror is that you have to make a sequel fast before the fad ends.
Exactly that is why i'm satisfied with BatDR, instead of rushing it like othe mascot horror games, they delayed the game like, 3 times, and I feel it was worth it, even tho the hype was almost gone by that time
And that’s why fnaf stayed popular
@Michael Quaid not really tbh
The original games were simple so it didn't take a long time to make them, but since sister location each game has become bigger and bigger, Security Breach took 2 years of development (I think it should have been longer), also its the lore that has been keeping FNaF alive its the biggest draw to the franchise.

I saw a Bendy fan comic that poked fun at Henry's monotone voice. It was great LOL.
This game's art style looks like a mix of bioshock & borderlands, it's pretty damn gorgeous regardless of how the series plays out.

Markiplier will never not be crying in the corner in a LS Mark horror video
Either crying, or yelling, “WAS THAT THE BITE OF ‘87!?”
I think we can all agree that the fact that Bendy and the Dark Revival was as good as it was when it released after everything that happened beforehand is nothing short of a miracle
Nothing pushes you to release a quality product like *checks notes* pending litigation
I'm still surprised at how good Dark Revival ended up being despite everything that's happened. Honestly one of my favorite games in quite some time
All it took for them to do it right was taking their time instead of rushing it as mascot horror games usually do. They delayed it for years, but it shows, the final product shows its effort. Glad they figured out taking their time shows good results.

I also like the various quips each reviewer makes for a game.
Never thought I'd hear a pivotal scene from Bendy be compared to GTA......😆

(Except Hello Neighbour was a janky mess and seems really boring to sit through)
Only hello neighbor had hardly any redeeming qualities and never got better

im really exited to be hearing your opinion on the franchise, i personally think that the first game had a lot of potential but flailed in its execution.
Yeah, glad the dark revival is an improvement

I haven't played this game, but the visuals and audio of this tunnel draw my mind to the perspective of an infant being birthed, more-so then just an escape. In my eyes, that's an effectively unsettling implication.
You've been reborn from the ink, and are now an undying part of it, like the dude in the mask. That idea that each death means you'll come back a little more like that guy is far more effective then a simple rewind.

While I agree that the lack of a planned narrative is concerning, I also have to give the devs kudos, because I'm like 60% certain "unexpectedly popular one-off character that overtakes the lead" is also Alice's in-game backstory.
It's also the origin of Fleischer Studios' Betty Boop, who I'm guessing Alice Angel is based off.
Yeah, but what always got me a little peeved is them saying they didn't change anything from their original plan when they obviously did
*ok tbh I didn't know for sure if the planned out thing was true or not just assumed by the fact they said it was all planned out but knowing thanks to lost bits and game theory that they cut out a giant thing of Bendy was originally going to be Joey and went to go watch the 4 hour video he mentioned in this one and actually got conformation in the first like 5 mins*

Bendy has always been hit or miss for me but this retrospective might change my perspective

@@NoobySwooby for worse

It's weird how BATDR explains the BATIM story better than BATIM itself did.
Man in my personal opinion,
This game is great.
The art style, the characters, the music, the FEEL, I just love it so much.
I really like the designs of the characters as well,
Bendy is iconic ( you are just flat out wrong about him being compared to Huggy Wuggy ).
Sammy Lawrence is one of my favorite characters in the whole game,
And the Projectionist looks so cool.
I was looking for a comment like this lmao
Cracks me up
There's one where the crying facecam spins in from off-frame to take its position.
Also, the Slicer (the door ghost) appears when you oppen the crate and free her, it's a cool easter egg because she only appears when you free her and now you have to deal with your action.
is it just me or does the ‘death’ screen look like a pov of the character being born
Oh and also, the fan music is AMAZING. Build Our Machine is one of my favorite songs of all time even without having BATIM for context. I’d highly recommend anyone who hasn’t to take a dive into the realm of Bendy music. You (hopefully) won’t regret. 🎶
That's sweet.
I'm not a big fan of the games but the fan music is amazing.
Gospel of Dismay, Pretty in Ink, Instruments of Cyanide, Bring Her to me, Tender Memoring and Face Reality are the ones I recommend the most.
@@diegocaceres3475 BASED for including Dark Revival songs lol
@@JacKAB0Y they are still Bendy songs and they are still bangers
@@diegocaceres3475 yessir
The more I play horror games, the shorter I think they should be. You have to be *REALLY* talented to pull off a long series.
Dude seeing Markiplier crying in the corner constantly is killing me 😂
I... Just...
Bendy was a one hit wonder to me and I never heard of it after the main game, kinda weird if you ask me because the game looked great
If these retrospectives become a regular series, I really hope we get a video on Baldi's Basics. It's pretty much had the same fate as Bendy, but I think it would be interesting to see your thoughts on it! Anyways, wonderful video as always!
God the markiplier crying gif is more iconic to LsMark then it actually is Markiplier
I can’t believe he didn’t talk about the Hello Neighbor crossover, I’m shaking and crying rn 😭😭😭
14:13 How many trees died to build this studio? There's so much fucking wood. That really got me laughing XD
im actually sad that the devs failed the game and franchise at the end of ink machine because bendy and the dark revival is genuinely just a really good game but after the first no one wants to give it a chance anymore
If anything, these kind of videos help to people see the actual potential in this franchise, and how actually good BatDR is. It sucks controversy and bad development took over this IP, but i feel time is actually vindicating Bendy, even if slowly.
@@miserirken The real question is if it actually deserves to be vindicated after what they did.
@@theinfomaniac8988 Mike Mood either hasn't shown up since or was fired, i doubt JDS is like that anymore
@@_plg He purposely goes uncredited now, he left a document in the files ranting about that, look it up.
@@_plg mike mood wasn’t the only issue sadly, themeatly and bookpost or whatever their called were also complicit. i want to enjoy this franchise but a great many peoples lives were greatly set back and harmed, and i just can’t
love how gloopy the ink looks and the glint of lights really enhances the atmosphere
i wanna eat it so bad
I love how literally every time markaplier is shown, he’s crying
It’s always a good
Day when mark uploads
Bendy and the ink machine: that other popular indie horror series that people obsessed over for a time .
How fun.
@@_a.lel_ AGREED OMG
I liked dark revival, but it still baffles me that John Wolfe disliked it because he said it was “too similar to Bio-Shock”.
And, sure. I can see it, but barely.
Its style is still so unique, and though Dark Revival has some problems, but it was still solid!
His biggest complaint was that the story was also too similar- but like… there are only so many stories humans can tell, and JDS is a relatively small team, cut them some slack, ya know?
*insert funny comment about bendy movie announcement here*
nice seeing an actual critique of this series, i was never a fan personally but couldn't quite put my finger on why
I've never played such climactic game than batim to this day i remember just fully immersing myself in this amazing world
I've been a fan of Bendy since the first game.
Mark just opened the door for a marvel vs capcom retrospective and I am here for it
when i was like 9 i asked my mom if i could be alice angel for halloween and she laughed at my face
CORRECTION: kindly beast didnt complain about fortnite having a cartoon artstyle, but specifically a cartoon artstyle with characters made of ink. its still stupid, but a bit less
MathewBitts did an incredible job with the thumbnail, it looks phenomenal!
this was a really fun video to watch, good job 👍
(also i could not have expected to see god damn five nights at sonics in this video lol)
Dark Revival was a fantastic indie game
I hope it turns out alright, as I’ve been a huge fan of this franchise for years
31:55
I remember being super bummed out when hearing this game was cancelled cause I was super into it when it came out (even still own some merch for it lol).
The boris game WAS originally a mobile game btw
The original Bendy game was the basis to make something far more grander.
You’ve done fnaf and bendy, now you have to do hello neighbor to complete the trifecta
Missed sitting down for a new LS Mark upload. Keep it up and you'll be at 1 million soon
My favourite Bendy thing was after the dark revival most of the actors did a fun music half hour video on DAgames's channel.
It was a mock radio and covers thing and it was amazing! My favourite one was the last one that I won't spoil...
Bendy and the Ink Machine feels underated at this point or is it just me
Nah it kinda lost it's popularity
definitely not underrated since back in the day it was literally everywhere. It just isn't popular like it used to be, but that's normal: mascot horror games die pretty fast if they don't release new games or merchandise in short time
Workers: we need compensation for the work we’ve done for this game
The owner rizzing up the farari (he will call it the ink demon)
As allways - great job on the video Mark! This was, at least for me, timed PERFECTLY - because a month or two ago I also decided to learn more about Bendy & The Ink Machine franchise despite never being interested in it beforehand…and, surprisingly to myself, I’m a big fan of it now! Which probably has to do with the fact that I watched the Dark Revival playthrough (I suck at gaming ngl) first, and then the original Ink Machine second
My friends said that I probably shouldn’t have done that, but honestly? The second game really is better, and I’m not sure I’d be as invested in this franchise if I started learning about it since the beginning
Also I finished "Dreams come to life” and "The lost ones" like four days ago and…not the best books I’ve ever read, but it was a pretty enjoyable experience! I like how the first book focuses on the characters and their backstories (like Buddy Lewek, especially that reveal in the end and the explanation on how Sammy became this inky monster) and the second book focusing more on the lore of, you guessed it - the lost ones
Haven’t read the "Sent from above” and "Fade to black" though because these two are yet to be published in my native language and, even though I know English - I’m not going to sit there and translate like 300+ pages…so I guess I’ll have to wait for your upcoming BATIM books video!
15:13 idk why but the way mark says “Whoa!” Cracks me up
