I think the most interesting part of Fortnite Festival is how Epic owns Harmonix, creators of Rock Band. This isnt a Rock Band knockoff, this IS Rock Band. Theyre reviving a genre that hasnt been on consoles in years and obly has a cult following on pc
This is concerning like massive amounts of concerns. Not just because Disney is literally monopolizing everything. I have nothing against Fortnight I’m just not interested in it very much
I tried playing it a few dozen times and I never really cared that much Just let people play and have fun but let's try to not get into a dystopian scenario because of a freaking fortnite
Never thought it would come to this, its actually really scary knowing big companies like epic and disney have this much control over so much media, makes it even more important to support physical media
The thing thats always irked me is how okay people have become with the FOMO Fortnite has fostered. Its leaked its way into every game they own. The community side of games like Rocket League are gone, and fall guys fell even harder.
I'll be honest, while Fortnite made these FOMO tactics widely used, it kinda does it better than others who use it lol [the battlepass is honestly easy to complete]
Honestly the whole “fomo” argument is kinda stupid I mean they give you three whole months to play. And you don’t even have to play for the season you can join on the last week and get the battle pass by just doing challenges
@@F1_soap While I think FOMO is veeery bad and shouldn't be normalized, Fortnite's FOMO isn't even as much as other games lol, since like what you said, the battlepass is very easy to complete lmaoo
@@pls_stap_ fomo is definitely a real think but yea Fortnite’s is a lot better then others even if fortnite just let anyone buy any battle pass or item at anytime they would be seen as a greedy company. The exclusively of Fortnite’s items is what gives them value would black night or Travis Scott be as popular if it was able to be purchased at any moment. I mean do you remember the last laugh bundle? When it was around for weeks people were complaining saying it was in the shop for to long…sooo does the community want exclusivity or not? This is tricky conversation to have because no matter what side you pick there’s always a down side or a negative in people’s eyes
The whole thing scares me and has me concerned immensely since Epic Games is based in the state I live in. Things are just gonna get even more expensive here.
It's seeming like Disney is using this tactic as a means of trying to retry doing what they attempted with Disney Infinity and turn Fortnite, or whatever they're planning to do with Epic, into a foundation for anything Disney related in the games industry. Maximum throughput for minimal effort. Dystopian is putting it mildly. This is Totalitarian.
Honestly Good Riddance for Fortnite. It's what Epic deserves for delisting the original Unreal games from the Steam page and the shit they pulled with Infinity Blade.
What made Disney Infinity worked, was that it was actually fun to create new levels, while also exploring a lot of the characters’ worlds and who they are. In a way, it was basically an Interactive Once Upon a Studio. Fortnite is just an online shooter that only got cross promotional deals like it’s some sort of mobile game.
I wonder if this partnership is going to include something where Disney is going to encourage epic to not use any Warner Brothers owned properties in the future
I remember hearing about the Martin Luther King event where they showed one of his speeches in a virtual museum or something, and emotes were enabled. The problem is that they were in the middle of a collab with DC Comics, and the Wonder Woman whip emote was not disabled. I am not sure how nobody considered the possibility of edgy teens using it to be racist, or if DC was really strict, but it's kind of baffling that this even happened at all.
I love that Nintendo is the one franchise Fortnite can't seem to get skins for. Nintendo does NOT want their characters appearing outside their systems (aside from iOS). They once famously turned down Samus and Link being playable characters in Marvel Ultmate Alliance since Activision (idotically) used them in PS2 port. Obviously they weren't going to be in the OFFICIAL PS2 port, but the fact that they saw Playstation symbols set them off. They did a similar rule with Fortnite where they're like "You CAN use our characters, you just can't see the skins on other systems" which Epic won't accept. I guess they REALLY want to be seen as THE hub for multimedia stuff, so the fact that Nintendo is putting restrictions like that would probably hurt that image (that or they really wanted more downloads across platforms the moment they hear they can play as Nintendo characters). It's still pretty funny how Fortnite is desperate for Nintendo's characters. In a Batman (or Marvel) Fortnite comic, you can see Samus's silhouette in the background. I'm not sure if Epic THOUGHT she was going to be in alongside Kratos and Master Cheif because they don't see Nintendo saying no or they wanted to drive hype, or it was just a fun Easter egg... either way, I think this is the one example where Nintendo being stubborn hardasses can be a good thing. They're the same company who laughed Microsoft out of the room when they attempted to buy them.
They were elbow deep in producing the collab, alongside Kratos and Master Chief. As revealed in the Epic v Apple case, they cancelled Samus because Nintendo demanded Samus only be visible on the Nintendo Switch, similar to how Rocket League achieved their Super Mario & Luigi collaboration, in addition to Samus herself.
This is why I never got attached to Fortnite in general. While I think it looks fun as a game (not to mention done a decent job with updates) it seems like companies are more interested in using it as a gathering point for all entertainment, which could so easily lead to every form of media turning into a monopoly, which I am completely against.
Same. I see some clips from the original Battle Royale mode and think it looks like it might be kind of fun, but all the colabs they do always feel very very off putting and poorly executed, only gaining hype through FOMO. That is something that will only get worse as they build up this “all in one” hub, which is something I can never get behind. Plus this is all happening around the time Apple is releasing the Vision Pro, which are uncannily similar to the headsets in Ready Player One.
@@dizdawgjr34 The only reason I still hop in every once in a while is because I played when the IPs weren't everywhere. Just Marshmellow (remember him?). Something happened in late 2019-2022 and here we are now, with IPs pumped out every week.
@dizdawgjr34 Not all collabs are gonna be good, but most collabs Epic have done were/are really good. The TMNT collab that's going is good having TMNT weapons, skins, and map changes plus there's a bunch of free rewards. The whole FOMO being the only way they gain hype is such a bad point they build up hype for new seasons with map changes, lore (sometimes), live events, and updates they genuinely put a lot of time and effort into keeping Fortnite updated and adding what people want. Have you never heard of don't judge a book by its cover that's what you're doing.
the sheer fact that we can have goku, rick sanchez, mr.beast and darth vader all hitting the griddy after downing master chef, the doom slayer, kratos and venom, makes fortnite the game equivalent of an drug fiuled feverdream
Not to do diss Magic, but it's interesting how Konami has done crossovers not by actually crossing over existing media (incouding their own), but rather using or referencing it in certain cards or archetypes. One of Disney news channels I follow here on youtube did a breakdown on the quarterly report Disney released recently, and from his point of view, based on the way Bob Iger presented it, it looks like Disney wants to create a virtual Disneyworld within the Fortnite universe. Iger is quoted as saying that this virtual space would have opportunities for both virtual and physical purchases, which sounds a lot like getting to double dip on the giftshop mentality people have going to amusement parks. Imagine logging into this virtual Disneyworld, buying virtual goods for your avatar to wear while you explore AND buying that same outfit for you to wear in real life. Disney sees the money their parks make in real life, but they hate having to spend the money to upkeep them, so make a digital copy and get all the money from people who can't afford to go in real life. Its diabolical, but I guess only time will see if they make it work.
The thing that really pisses me off is how so many brands refused collaborations over the years because of "the IPs purity" or whatever now are deciding to throw it all away and for fucking Fortnite out of all things. Feels like hearing the pastor's daughter you liked as a child suddenly decided to work at a red light district out of nowhere.

The tactics they use to manipulate people, and undermine consumer rights, needs a lawyer, an economist, and a psychologist to fully understand. And I think THAT speaks volumes to how bad the industry has gotten. They're basically designing games to create gambling addicts and diminish the idea that you own what you buy, and since it's all "free to play," people give it a pass, and don't think twice.
@@proot. If you aren't just being dismissive, give this a read, and don't just take my word for it, go look around and do some research on the topic too; It's the same psychology as gambling addictions. It plays on the gamblers fallacy and the sunk cost fallacy. One keeps you playing because you keep swearing to everyone they're making it better with every update. And that skin you like? It'll come back next month, right? And surely they'll bring back some old maps eventually, and keep around one of their other games modes, like Payload, or King of the Hill. They never will, but it's hopeful. And if you've spent a dollar on the game, you're more likely to spend more. People who buy one micro transactions are ridiculously more likely to buy another, but it gets worse. The sunk cost fallacy is the entire impudence behind battle passes. You have paid for the product. But now, you don't actually OWN the product. You now have to dedicate a lot, and I mean A LOT of time to the game just to have access to what you already bought (unless you want to pay to get it faster. Wink, wink). And now you've spent even more time with the game, but you're human, and you're having fun, so who cares? You're not gonna question this system, or if it's exploiting human behavior for a minimal amount of effort, meanwhile underpaying and over working their employees in an often toxic environment. You've spent so much time with this game. No matter what, you're FAR less likely to change games now. Other games do more, and take less. But so many people have spent SO MUCH TIME AND MONEY on this game, that the argument is dulled entirely by "but I'm having fun." But hey, meth addicts are having fun too.
@@handgun559 Just to add to this, a lot of people say it isn't as bad because the skins and stuff give you no mechanical benefits in the game. Except everything in the game revolves around those skins. Socially, people with better cosmetics are seen as cooler. We wanna blame and fear the big companies but it's kind of our own fault for craving convenience and an easy dopamine rush. Then again, we wouldn't know if we all tried. Then again... _if_ we all tried. It's a complicated situation.
Your comment about Goku and brand loyalty could not be more accurate. I never considered getting into Fortnite until I heard rumors of a One Piece collab, in which would result me turning into a sheep and doing whatever I can to play as Luffy

As much as I’d like to say I’m immune, I did download fall guys and buy the season pass for Hatsune Miku and I will do the same for Fortnite if the time ever comes
I just hate the fact we're not getting any voice acted story for Fortnite anymore. one thing i really liked was getting invested in the characters, and theorizing what would happen next. they would even put little hints around the island, and change POI's through the season to match what was happening in the storyline.. Literally the only thing that changed this season was the snow melting, and the accidental swastika crossroads being edited. even the peely kidnapping "story" just ended with a "Wow you did it, thank you - Jonesy" text box that shows up for 2 seconds. The new gamemodes are fun, but the Fortnite i know will never return. Hoping season 2 proves me wrong.
I don’t like that you used Goku as an example of people getting into Fortnite as sense of loyalty for franchises they like bc Goku is exactly how they got me 💀

When I was a kid, I loved crossover media. The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hours were my jam, and I wished for nothing more than a Nicktoons Unite TV special. But now I hate crossovers. Just let individual things stand on their own - not everything needs to bleed into everything else.
Personally, I didn't really like it back then, but now I love it, as long as these conditions are met: 1: The collabs are explained through lore or are related to the overall theme of the game 2: One company shouldn't monopolize over the other. Everyone should have equal chances disregarding age restrictions. Fortnite is fulfilling #1 in a way, but for #2, we'll have to wait and see, but I hope Disney doesn't monopolise the collabs we get. We already have so many Marvel skins. While they're cool, we need a bit more variety!
There’s a difference between Crossovers and Collabs. A crossover is when two franchises or multiple franchises crosses over with each other, in a storyline where the characters from various franchises, joins together, and we (the Audience, and Players) see how they would interact, and how well they worked together. A collab is when a character from another franchise gets added into an online game, as a skin you have to buy through micro transactions… due to corporate interference. However, the said character is not a character, as it’s just a skin with zero involvement with the game’s story, or lore.
The true issue with this collaboration is that it's ultimately a capitalist soultion to art. Fortnight is not about being a fun game to experence, it's about being "the best game" "the only game you'll need" It's why the meta verse failed, and similar projects. And why I feel this will too, even if it takes awhile for it to burn through enough money. I think what's most chilling is that the people manufacturing this see things like Oasis not as this terrible homoginization of all art into a nonstop sluge of content, but as asperational the future. P.S. Ready Player one the book sucked I'm shocked that they were able to make it into such a mediocre film.
So fortnite is becoming similar to roblox in how it offers multiple games and combines peices of media and this is bad because it will lead to the eventual homogeny of art. I completely disagree, I feel as if people will still be able to separate and make separate peices of media and veiw them on an individual or self contained basis and that it's arguably impossible to homogeneousize media like this on such a scale. Also could you define what you mean be "homogeninzation" do you mean cross-overs or references?
As someone, who’s barely played Fortnite for 10 hours. I can’t imagine getting into this grind. I feel like the time this virtual hub get oversaturated. Because you know companies like Warner Bros are going to make one for their properties soon. And similar to the cinematic universe trend. I can see this trend dying out a few years after it’s polished enough to be competent. It won’t die, something this big will never just fade away that quickly. But if the product requires as much grinding as this does. I can see it not being as popular when people realise how much it’s going to take to keep up with it all.
The funny thing is with Festival. Its not even competing with anyone as it was made by Harmonix, or the creator of Rock Band. A little while back Epic acquired Harmonix. And now with DLC ending for RB4, Fortnite Festival is going to be filling that void. Making Festival, effectively, Rock Band 5.
Fortnite is definitely reaching that point we’re It’s brunching outside of battle Royale and exploring other avenues to keep people invested in playing, which they are kind of succeeding with the new modes they added.🐱
I remember back when they did the Avengers crossover and THAT was huge. The Travis Scott concert was hyped up, and it was a nice little gift for the players. But then they just keep adding more, and more, aaaaaand more
I remember seeing lot of Peter Griffin in Fortnite and thought it would be both Funny and Cool to see. And it has finally become a Reality, Peter Griffin in the same Game with John Cena, Thanos, Snake, The Rock, Ryu, Omni Man, Eminem, Weeknd and TMNT.
I really hope that once Disney arrives other companies especially smaller ones or individuals still get the chance to be in Fortnite like guldedguy. If Disney can just stop collabs with other companies it will be really bad for the game
I miss when this game had its own identity. sure, the collabs were still there, but they were sparce, and were treated very specially. Nowadays it feels like all they can ever think of for content are collab updates where they add a reskinned mythic back into the game (9 times out of 10 ruining the lootpool in the progress). And thats not even mentioning the storyline, which seemed to be heading somewhere until around mid-chapter 3 where it just stopped in its entirety. It wasn't shakespeare or anything, but the cohesion was cool, and I liked seeing how they could string each theme together in a way that made sense. And then lets not forget the new extra modes, which are boring (imo, to be clear), are ruining the shops with overpriced crap, and are distracting from the main mode people come to fortnite to play (the mode they'd be dead in the water without, no less). The creative mode especially doesn't help, since it completely ruined the mode selector, and they haven't bothered fixing it even slightly since it launched (about a year ago, mind you.) I've been with this game since the original season 5, and its been absolute agony to see all of its charm get sucked away bit by bit.
I am still trying to understand how people are not tired of Fortnite already. I get it, i have played BR games before. But with how monotonous they are...
It's cuz they have all the IPs in the world (except Nintendo) to keep people's attention. If the game is losing steam, all they need to do is introduce a new character skin or game mode of a famous IP and boom; Fortnite is relevant for another year or so.
I could take it or leave it with the BR mode, but it’s the fact that there’s an expansive and growing list of creator content on there and you can play as your favorite character from any franchise at this point it seems. It’s a social thing as much as it is a game at this point. A night with the boys consists of a group of 10 of us and it’s a blast.
Surprised you didn't mention Palpatine's return speech! You know, the one mentioned in Rise of Skywalker, the one that let the galaxy know the Emperor had returned! Not in the movie itself! But a FORTNITE COLLAB
I rucking hate how epic has completely shafted the unreal series, the game their biggest moneymaker unreal engine is named after, delisting all of them on the 25th anniversary, the ut3 remaster getting shelved, and i dont think they even have fortnite skins. Smh
Collab skins and limited events truly changed people’s perception of the game including myself. I still dislike Epic gatekeeping limited skins (Predator, etc.), but well done for Epic
Soon as I saw naruto characters an dragon ball coming, I knew it was gonna end badly. I still enjoy the game but Jesus Christ we don’t need 40,000 collabs every week.
Something to note about Fortnite festival. I don’t think it’s looking to compete because there is no competition at the moment. The genre is practically dead. This mode is being made by Harmonix which is the team behind Rockband, the new Guitar that’s coming out has been confirmed to work for for rockband 4, with a ps5 and Xbox version of the guitar coming out. It’s not competing with anyone, it’s attempting reviving the genre
I can't really agree when something like roblox has existed longer than fortnite and hasn't replaced every other game either . Heck i think roblox more worst/dystopian than fortnite. Atleast with fortnite the islands are gamemodes and not just gambling for kids unlike most roblox games. Also the ip collab thing has always been a thing in gaming. its just that fortnite is well known for it now and has been doing more recently. Besides i doubt people are going to rely on fortnite forever for their entertainment.
The only thing I see why people hate fortnite is the lack of ideas they have, all they do is take characters from popular shows, then they just put it in the game and call it a day.

I think if fortnite wants to get closer to this they'd have to revamp how creative modes are pushed forward. Ever since they started going for a more interactive and versatile creative experience, it mostly just turned into roblox's interface except worse with how they recommend modes to you. If you want red vs blue, box fights, and tycoons I guess you'd be pretty happy, but there's a good bit of well made stuff that gets buried under everything. If you want an example of this, go search in the board game or racing tab and see how many modes break 1000, or even 100 players, then compare that with anything that's actually recommended to you or featured/most favorited
Ya know that 1984 like fortnite trailer where they essentially tried to get players to revolt against Apple for understandabley removing the game from the appstore after epic attempted to bypass their purchasing system was kinda foreboding
I can't imagine the Disney merge thing having too much of a big impact on Fortnite. Like the brand name's HUGE don't get me wrong, but honestly I think a majority of Fortnite's playerbase only cares about what skins they'd get from it. I can see when the mode drops it garnering millions of players but after 1 week or 2 it'll go down to barely having as much players Save the World has, kinda like what happened with the other modes. They can add as much experiences as they want but no matter what Battle Royale will still be the biggest mode Fortnite has to offer.

Why does specifically being in NC concern you? I live in NC. It's a virtual game, it doesn't affect anything about our state lol.
No matter what they do and no matter what they say it won't stop Disney+ from not being profitable or that the MCU and Star Wars are shit now!

What gambling is there in fortnite? They don't have any lootboxes or crates or anything, you can see exactly what you're getting when you pay for it.
@@proot. If you aren't just being dismissive, give this a read, and don't just take my word for it, go look around and do some research on the topic too;
It's the same psychology as gambling addictions.
You expecting umbrella corp or something?
When I was a kid, I loved crossover media. The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hours were my jam, and I wished for nothing more than a Nicktoons Unite TV special. But now I hate crossovers. Just let individual things stand on their own - not everything needs to bleed into everything else.
Personally, I didn't really like it back then, but now I love it, as long as these conditions are met:
1: The collabs are explained through lore or are related to the overall theme of the game
2: One company shouldn't monopolize over the other.
True and Fortnite is not even that good for it to be the only game you need
It’s funny that after all the collabs that Fortnite has done, the basic Disney one is the one that genuinely concerns me
This game continues to exist and I continue to ignore it, life is good.
I still think it's crazy that Epic managed to play Corporate Chess with Disney and come out with equal or greater benefit.

And thats not even mentioning the storyline, which seemed to be heading somewhere until around mid-chapter 3 where it just stopped in its entirety. It wasn't shakespeare or anything, but the cohesion was cool, and I liked seeing how they could string each theme together in a way that made sense.

So fortnite went from a tower defense to a battle royal to a game maker like roblox to now A METAVERSE since 2017
Wait. The thanos thing was six years ago? Fucking what
The irony of talking about dystopian futures when the thumbnail is an AI landscape is wild
I’m so excited to run around Bear’s Big Blue House as Omni Man!
In just a few years, Fortnite went from just "the most popular battle royale game" to the perfect summarization of late stage capitalism and monopoly
It's gonna be so funny when entertainment dies and touching grass becomes the new hobby to escape reality.
@@dj47rpg11 Man I don't wanna essay a youtube comment for a reply.
I promise you I like entertainment and engaging in videogames and movies with the boys, please dont go die in a war
MrBeast can now sing "Gangnam style" in fortnite with Spider-Man on Drums,Goku on Bass and Peter Griffen on keyboard
We're always talking about disney's monoplisation like epic hasn't been doing the same thing recently
ah yes, infamous living and not dead franchise rockband and guitar hero
they're totally not already obsolete or anything, fortnite is the game that killed it
*when this dude finds out MoJang helped produce LEGO Fortnite:*
😮
If u guys really think about it.............fortnite is more "legally" impressive the SMASH BROS due to how much rights to IPs fortnite has
thats also because smash bros is exclusively video games, its meant to be a celebration of gaming as a whole. fortnite is a celebration of MEDIA as a whole
@@yggdrasilsaltarok......still more impressive
@@Accountthatexistsyeah media wise but I don't know about gaming wise.
@@yggdrasilsaltargood analysis actually
Fortnite bypassing Smash Bros is not something I actually expected.
At first it was like "haha [character] is in fortnite" and now we have rick Sanchez with Darth Vader cranking 90s against goku and Michelangelo while John cena watches with Peter Griffin
yall remember when fortnite was just a battle royale and a horde defence mode
And I for one, welcome our new corporate overlords! I'd to remind them that I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil away in their underground dopamine caves!
Even the biggest bubbles pop eventually.

Amazing digital circus.
???
If this means there’s a chance we can play as the legendary Mortimer mouse in Fortnite, then I am all for this 😁👌
Ha cha cha!
The laser item thing from a few years ago would work well for mortimer
What do you mean "getting" dystopian? It always was.
As an active player since Chapter 2, I can confirm
Scariest thing to me is that the British Army tried to recruit though fortnite
I remember when fortnite was a zombie base building game
Can’t wait for Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Sora Crank 90s against Peter, Snake, Luke skywalker and Batman in: Lego Fortnite the video game
6:14 Why does Andrew Dobson get mentioned so much all of a sudden lol.
Magic Mush made a video on him, reminding everybody about him and his exploits
@@crystalqueen9711 i only remember him cause of the Danny and Spot memes
Ya know that 1984 like fortnite trailer where they essentially tried to get players to revolt against Apple for understandabley removing the game from the appstore after epic attempted to bypass their purchasing system was kinda foreboding
@3:54-.-To be fair, those children are doing the dance perfectly. I _believe_ they're 3D models doing rig based animations.

"Eww, Fortnite sucks because it's popular with kids! But saying "SUS" is always good!"
