It’s probably the five Reddit fans screaming so loud no one else can hear. I’m actually so confused by people not liking Wendy. Literally never heard that opinion even once honestly
If you see Cartman as the hero of the show, Wendy is a villain. I think that sentiment explains some of the hatred of her. Regardless of how people feel, it’s hard to deny that she’s one of the most well-written characters in the show, and that she fills her role perfectly.
I just see Wendy as the female version on Kyle. They would fill the exact same role if one them went away, the only difference is that Kyle cares more about Cartman than she does, and she doesn't have that many worthwhile moments in the grand scheme of things.
It genuinely chills me to the bone to think that ANY South Park fan could possibly see Eric Cartman as the hero of the show. If you don't see that the whole entirety of South Park is Matt and Trey relentlessly ripping on the pathetic self-serving sociopathy of Cartman and ripping on society for tolerating it, you're not watching the same show I am.
@@communistskeletonpiss There was someone in Blooms’ comments arguing that Cartman is the hero and actually the combination of Matt and Trey…because deep down that Cartman is always right…and somehow it was woke liberals that ruined it? Truly insane.
Exactly, this is how I knew she was my favorite. Kyle talks big game but he doesn’t beat Cartman’s ass nearly enough for me. Wendy wrecked his ass so good he will never try to fight with her physically at least. She was so real for this
I NEVER knew Wendy was hated? I've always loved her character, she's fairly complex and has one of the most satisfying episodes in the history of the show, she's well written and super funny!
She’s the squidward of South Park, she’s not a bad person or a villain, she’s just a foil to the fun wackiness that goes on, same with squidward, he’s just a guy who wants peace and quiet in his own home & stops the main characters from doing main character stuff.
@@wyattcole5452 exactly. I like Squidward because he strikes a good balancing act between the childlike wonder of Spongebob and the more cynical adult world of Squidward. And Squidwards schemes are usually fun, his deadpan jokes are hilarious, when he gets angry its funny. Wendy on the other hand is like Stan and Kyle where they're the good characters so they need to spend like 20 minutes in a 30 minute episode saying that the obvious bad thing that cartman is doing is obviously bad and its just like Uh Duuuuuuuh, like my eyes glaze over during the parts where Wendy, Stan, or Kyle go up to Cartman and point at him and are like, "Cartman _insert obvious bad thing here_ is obviously bad." And I'm like Wow really you don't say? Does anyone find those parts funny or enjoyable because during those parts I'm just sitting back on my phone.
I remember seeing people fighting about Cartman loosing the fight 💀. Idk why tho, Cartman's NEVER been portrayed as a strong character when it comes to fighting, he's always getting bodied by Kyle and he cried once Kenny gave him a single tap
I mean David did actually have a blackbelt in karate, and still got floored EASILY while Cartman was laughing the entire time. In comparison the Wendy fight was so one sided you would be forgiven for assuming that Cartman was just letting her beat the shit out of him.
@@travelingmerchant6434 Ah, yes, because Cartman beating a guy with a blackbelt in karate is somehow less script than a 6 years old girl who does a shit ton of activities beat the shit out of a 6 years old sedentary obese boy who constantly cries when hit once
I think what makes Wendy a good counter against Cartman is that she ISN'T the polar opposite to Cartman, a lot of people say this, but I disagree. KYLE is Cartman's opposite, Cartman is often compared to the antichrist, he's the most chaotic, evil, unapologetically selfish character in the show. He's evil, knows he's evil, is open about being evil, and just thinks that's how the world works, and that everyone is out to get him from the get-go and he's simply adjusting to the world around him. He's capable of absolutely tormenting and straight up making other people kill themselves just by a singular conversation with them. Kyle is basically the opposite ideology pushed to it's extreme. Kyle's known for his "I've learned something today" speeches, he's overly obsessed with bettering, not only himself, but others. Like how Cartman can get the worst out of seemingly innocent people, children and nannies, Kyle can get the absolute best out of literal dictator of Cuba, but Kyle's obsession towards bringing justice sometimes makes him seem even MORE selfish and delusional. Even if a situation has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM, he'll help, not because he wants to do the right thing, not even because he wants glory, he literally just wants to feel as if he's the best guy ever, Ginger Cow delves into his mentality the best. Kyle is the most lawful mf ever, he won't stand for anything that isn't total justice. Wendy doesn't really give a shit about that, if Cartman is slandering her, she doesn't care, if random Muslim kid is being bullied by Cartman, she doesn't care, if Cartman INSULTS THE CAUSE SHE BELIEVES IN, oh it's game on bitch, and she is willing to be just as manipulative and as deceptive as him to beat him, like in Smurfs episode where he straight up uses Cartman's strategy to demolish HIS reputation, Kyle for instance would NEVER EVER do something like that, instead what he would do is make a poetic speech about being an individual and not trusting everything the media says to the school.
Interesting take. I don't get from Wendy's actions in Dances with Smurfs that she's equal to him in terms of manipulation and deception. I feel like the difference is that Wendy has more of an "the ends justify the means" approach, whereas Kyle doesn't. He'd rather die on his hill alone than win down in the trenches. He'd rather rise above the problems of the world to set an example, which speaks to his egosim. Perhaps because I identify with him, I would argue that he isn't overtly egotistical, he understands that its not all about him cognitively, but he uses the emotional energy of his egoism to charge his batteries, so to speak. Wendy on the other hand really doesn't care who gets the credit, she cares about the result. This itself is sort of a commentary on how gender roles shape personalities. Society tends to care more about the egos of men, giving men credit and recognition for their work, than it does for women, who largely go uncredited. Even when Wendy genuinely destroys Cartman, she doesn't proclaim herself the victor, she doesn't gloat, she simply says "I'm finished!" and leaves. I actually think Kyle and Wendy would make a fantastic match. They understand how each other care deeply about the world beyond themselves, and they are both excellent communicators and deeply empathetic individuals. But because Stan is not, nor will ever be, mature enough to get over Wendy, dating her would undoubtedly destroy Kyle's friendship with him, so it can never happen.
Actualmente butters sería lo opuesto a cartman es alguien que siempre ve lo bueno en las personas sin importar quien sean no trata de imponer sus opiniones sobre los demás de hecho es bastante manipulable
She's like the only one female character that has depth in Southpark. Other characters, adults and kids, has absolutely no depth and are NPCs which can be replaced completely with other women in the entire plot. But she's not used for everything like how Randy is, well written character overall. Hate is a strong word(well, obviously whoring for clicks) but a lot of people tend to be annoyed by 'conscious' female character on their cartoon show that makes them think when they don't want to. Not in a Disney- /PC- fueled way.
Wendy is the Skylar White of South Park. She’s arguably the most reasonable and mature character in the entire show, but when the funny but morally terrible characters are so likeable, it makes it harder for people to like her.
She’s actually one of my favorites I’ve always liked how she stands up for what she believes in and doesn’t compromise what she believes in and the one time she did where she photoshopped herself to be “pretty” the show treated it like it was a huge deal I think she’s handled with class and maturity and the show would be missing a lot without her
@KoraTheBot-rh5pk yeah, I like those moments too. nobody is perfect and she's still vulnerable to the same trappings as others. man wouldn't it be lame if she was perfect and always right? like a Mary Sue or something, I sure would hate having those in my media.
@janefkrbtt right. Wendy is all of the things you said WHILE also being a tween girl. You can be a good strong person and still fall into a fashion trend. I think that's why people hate Wendy; they struggle with seeing women, especially young girls, and multifaceted people.
Yeah this is certainly a weird way for Johnny to title the video cause its the first I'm hearing of it. Like she will literally still be legendary til the end of time cause she is one of the few characters who has smacked Cartman around.
I love that Wendy's line after beating Cartmans ass was "I'm finished." Not "I win" or "he's had enough." She knows that shit doesn't matter with Cartman, there's no victory there. But she can have her pound of flesh.
Actually this is a nod to the movie "There will be Blood" with Daniel Day Lewis The very last scene, DDL beats someone to death with a bowling pin..and then sits down on the floor (exhausted) and says "I'm finished"
Honestly, wendy is a textbook dictionary example of the word "misunderstood". Not by the writing put into her character by the writers/creators themselves, but by the reputation given by the fandom itself
I’ve always really liked her. She’s the female version of Stan, the female character who deals with complex issues, like in the Hobbit or the Stupid Spoiled Whore episode. She’s also like Kyle, she’s very smart and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. I’ve really enjoyed any episode that she’s in: The List, Raisins, Breast Cancer Show Ever, etc. She was only ever really annoying a few times, and even then she wasn’t that bad
Her moral compass makes and the way she treats cartman make me think she's like a female version of Kyle tbh. That makes sense to me bc I feel like Stan would definitely date a female version of of Kyle idk based on looks but personality).
It’s strange considering Cartman is literally supposed to be written as everything that is wrong with humanity, and Wendy is supposed to be the obvious voice of reason in the show
I think thats the reason, Cartman has a Lot of Moments were he was right for the wrong motivations, meanwhile Wendy has a these little Moments were she is absolutely wrong for moral motivations and thats something that mooks many fans Im a diehard Cartman fan but i also like Wendy and i can tell You, when she acts like Cartman she ends up with some triple D+ breast cup
Watching Wendy cry as she photo-shopped and face-tuned her picture in defeat was one of the most depressing endings to an episode of South Park I've ever seen. Compounding the intensity of it, remember that Stan pressured her earlier to photo-shop herself cause she was the only girl who hadn't and her photos embarrassed him since they were dating.
But she also started everything on that episode by photoshopping a girl because of her whole hating Kim Kardashian photoshops deal so she brought it onto herself.
@@pintolerance785she only did that to prove to butters that Kim was photo shaping her pictures to fool people to thinking she’s hot and butters was the one to post the picture so it all started with butters
@@pintolerance785Which she did to prove that the girl was photoshoping her photos to look better. People blame butters for bringing it up to Wendy but I blame the pressures of young girls needing to look "hot" to be accepted by their partners or just by society.
@@pintolerance785 The intellectual dishonesty of this comment is ASTONISHING. Like... are you so desperate of a woman-hating incel that you have to completely fabricate nonsense in order to despise a cartoon child? I'm far from a feminist but you have some problems, man, and if you can't think of a better reason to dislike Wendy than that, then you my friend need to reevaluate some things about the way you think. Holding on to intellectual dishonesty will ruin you.
"People" don't. It's just another vtuber creating a strawman and for views. Like, even on the Top100 list, Johny acts like the list is for hated characters when it literally states Most Hated/Annoying characters. Wendy is easily amongst the top100 most annoying characters because that's her role. She's meant to be the one that brings things back to reality, who snitches, who brings up real world issues in a comedy show. That's part of the joke. But Johny also seems to think there's this great plurality of people who identify with Cartman and genuinely believe he's a good guy, so there's that too.
i used to like her better in the old seasons. i still like her now, but she has some moments that are unlikeable (e.g. trying to force veganism on the menu) but i would still argue she has more good moments than bad
@@splendisdude Same here, I also think they play off each other well but I have come across a lot of people saying they hate her cuz she’s a ‘bad girlfriend to Stan’ and/or ‘is a bitch to Cartman’
A rundown from someone who watched the show from her early teen years and who liked Wendy: 1. Her and Stan's relationship got a lot less fun to watch over time (and she fell into the background for a while because of it). 2. People preferred her back when she was "shy". 3. Some Cartman apologists do not like her humbling him and for a show filled with people doing terrible things, they don't like it when the girls act the same as the boys. 4. She has wonderful episodes like "Stupid Spoiled Whore" where she's passionate about the issues she believes in but other times, she's usually told off for going to far by another character. Don't know if that all tracks but something I've noticed.
I would argue her character is inconsistent at times, like when she sent the substitute teacher to her death or when she gave in to peer pressure and photoshopped her pics at the end of the episode. and they never went anywhere with it. in the next episode her character was back where it was before. I'd say she evolves the least out of most of the main kids. even token and craig got more significant longterm character development than her
@@frankunodostres473sub teacher thing was in the super early seasons, lots of stuff from then wasn’t kept. And where exactly did you want the peer pressure thing to go? The show wasn’t doing overarching plots yet.
@@DogsandPennies While yes, that behavior was the early seasons, there was a lot of it. The breast Augmentation due to being jealous of Bebe was late season 6. While still earlier, it shows that her character archetype early on persisted for a long time. While I agree that the biggest issue is racist / sexist / generally bigoted people who are Cartman apolgoists having a problem with someone (especially a woman) telling them off, I do believe that some people who watched the show way back then could still have a sour taste in their mouths due to her in the early seasons, especially with the inconsistency we see form her in the later seasons.
Pretty much. Early episodes made her a jealous feminist phycho. Mid seasons made her someone who wants to fit in. And Later seasons made her the opposite. I like a lot of her episodes, but she is written to fit the story in those episodes.
Another reason why Wendy is hated is because of the Style Shippers. I have seen in the fandom, both in the English and Latino communities, that they hate Wendy more than anything because of the fact that she interferes with the “romantic” relationship that Stan would have with Kyle, or that she is unfaithful, or as they say According to these people's arguments, Wendy is a “slut or bitch.” And really, I can understand that fans don't like Wendy because of things like she's too cynical or hypocritical, but hating her on a whim or that it's really stupid to hate her just because she's also Stan's girlfriend; Something that bothers Style Shippers and they detest Wendy to the point of insulting an incredible character like Wendy by calling her the worst possible names. Wendy may have her moments where she is hypocritical but she is really a good character, she is not a hollow or stupid girl, she has also shown to have concerns towards her friends and has been bullied by her own friends and very hard and sad moments with her that makes you have a lot of empathy for her.
@@flannelpillowcase6475 style = stan x kyle It’s cute but doesn’t make that much sense also it stendy (Stan x Wendy) is way more canon and makes more sense then style but if you ship style I respect your opinion lol
Yeah Toxic Style Shippers are the worst people on the south park fandom and the reason why many people left the sp fandom and they act like Style is Healthy but it's not Because Kyle and Stan fought on numerous times, Stan didn't Save Kyle when the other boys was bulling Kyle and proceed to Beat the heck out of Kyle,Kyle hired a Hitman intend to Kill Stan and Stan points a gun at Kyle and always get angry at Wendy when She "Interrupted Stan and Kyle" bruh bruh bruh bruh bruh Stan Have Wendy and Tbh in my opinion Stan and Kyle are Super Best friends They hang out because They're Best Friends You Toxic Style Shippers that what Best Friends do, They Hang out and Leave Wendy Alone She didn't nothing to y'all Toxic Style Shippers. also tbh Guys There Some Style Shippers who Nice and I'm actually friends with Nice Style Shippers.
it’s the same thing as the walter white effect. people don’t think that cartman is the villain despite obviously being a monster and looking through the show through that lens, wendy is his foil, a lot like skyler and people see someone going against the “hero” and turn on them due to that
I’m in the minority that Matt and Trey broke Cartman with “Scott Tenorman Must Die”. They crossed a line info making him a cold-blooded psychopath and I think fans just don’t want the “respect my authoritah!” walking id to be actually evil.
I think some people forget about the concept of the villain protagonist, a slot I think Cartman fits into. Yeah, the show has occasionally given possible reasons for why he is how he is, such as permissive parenting and a lack of a strong father figure, but most times there is no reason why Cartman is this way. He's just a pathetic a*s-hole because he wants to be. The show never treats Cartman like he's right about anything he says and viewers who understand thar DON'T like Cartman because he's right or a hero. They like him because he's funny.
I haven't watched this yet so I don't know if it's in here. But when Wendy edited her picture at the end of the episode that was the saddest s*** I've ever seen in my life.
I've always loved Wendy But another thing to mention about this is that another reason people don't like her is because she interferes with the ships in a fandom. It's why in quite a bit of fan content she is painted as a villain (which in turn stems from moments in the show that are blown out of proportion. I think people tend to forget that she is...yknow 10 years old. She may be opinionated and have her beliefs, but she is also learning about life as she goes as well
What the fuck do you mean she “interferes with shipping and the fandom doesn’t like her” Does the South Park community actually believe that If so I have lost a lot of respect for the South Park community
Maybe it's my logic-centric mindset, but I've always enjoyed the "voice of reason" characters. For as zany of situations Cartman and the boys get into, Wendy acts as the perfect antithesis of the chaos, but still with the childhood lens. But what makes her great is that she's still imperfect and immature in her own opinions too.
There's nothing wrong with a logic centric mindset. The whole point of the show is to demonstrate that the human world at large doesn't care about logic, and that this flaw is their singular undoing.
"Voice of reason" characters tend to be characters I really like too. Kyle and Wendy are among my favorite characters in SP and Lisa is my favorite from the Simpsons. To me, chaotic and obviously wrong characters like Cartman wouldn't be as fun to watch if there wasn't someone to oppose them, which is what Kyle and Wendy do perfectly, just in different ways.
@@calmsunshine511 i remember hearing on a video that when rugrats added suzie they said that her character was created for the same reason that wendy was made for south park which was to be a foil for angelica since to them the best foil for a bully character was to have them be forced to interact with a sweet natured voice of reason character who couldnt be bullied because they dont fall for the bullys trocks.
Very small tangent. But I've always liked how mister slave, Despite being the biggest degenerate around, is actually one of the healthiest most mature calm and collected adults in south park and his advice is always fucking spot on.
It is a nice flip of expectations that kind of mirrors real life. Just because the grownups look like what we consider "normal" doesn't make them any less horrible as people. Mr. Slave is what a lot of people would consider "abnormal" for his kinks but it's just his sexuality, not something that defines his morality as a person.
I always loved Wendy. She's one of the best characters. I love how south park makes it so that every point she ever makes is rational, well thought out, and perfectly presented, and then have the characters react as if she's just spouting nonsense - a perfect satire of both misogyny and of how society responds to criticisms; if you make your point poorly, your point is attacked, but if you make your point well, you're simply dismissed and no attempt to refute it is made. You're just treated as though you never made a good point.
Im a fan of cartman, but wendy is good. The only time ive genuinely agreed with cartman in hating wendy is when she complains to the school and gets the meals changed to eco-friendly plant based shit. As petty as it is, i got actually mad during that. A man just wants his barbecue ribs. All that aside, wendy is chill, passes the vibe check
Criticism has been here for years, and when it does happen... you will get blocked or ignored, even if you mean well. It shows they didn't wanna learn at all, like most people on this planet.
I don't usually pull the "They only hate her because she's a girl", but it honestly 100% feels that way with Wendy. Even still, I was quite shocked to see her on that list
I think the only time Wendy got on my nerves was in the Facebook episode, when both she and Randy kept harassing and pressuring Stan over every little thing he did on his account. I just can’t stand the trope of the overly critical girlfriend who expects her guy to bow to her every whim or else risk facing a tantrum.
Sadly, a lot of people who love South Park only do so, because they think it's this funny show that isn't scared to joke about sensitive topics, but couldn't be more wrong. They make jokes about sensitive shit, yes. But they do so in order to satirise the topics and open up a dialogue, NOT just because racism is funny. A good example is the episode introducing PC Principal, where he ends the episode off saying "I would have never thought to use offensive imagery and outrageous stereotypes to provoke someone to open their eyes". THIS IS THE POINT OF SOUTH PARK. You need characters like Wendy who point out when the guys (Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman) do stupid shit, because unfortunately some of the fans with low media literacy (*likely you reading this*) will completely miss all of the metaphors and parallels in the episode.
I loved her so much in Dancing with Smurfs. The resolution was so graceful and subverting, giving Cartman everything he acted like he wanted, admission of fault and position of power, and makes it obvious that it's absolutely not what Cartman wants. He just wants an enemy to be angry against, and she just took that away from him XD
Cartman gets pleasure from getting a reaction from people the exact same thing you mentioned happens with Cartman annoying Kyle about how he was right and won a bet of 20 dollars and turned the 20 dollar bill into 1 dollar bills so he could swim in it then turned the 20 dollar bills into quarters to do it again but Kyle then congratulated Cartman and Cartman blew up at him for ruining his fun
I'm 90% positive that the reason Wendy gets hate, is because she reminds everyone of that know-it-all girl everyone had in school. The type that would tell a teacher if you were a minute late, trying to get you detention.
I was personally really surprised to see the title, not only have I never heard of people not liking Wendy, but also she seemed like of all the characters one of the hardest to hate to me, before watching the video I honestly couldn't think of a reason why people wouldn't like her. Very interesting video, thanks!
Most of the hate I have seen on Wendy is in the fandom, shippers that hate that she’s in the way of their gay ship of Stan x Kyle. It has been a few years since I saw it. And personally I just think Wendy is ok
Considering the comment section, I'm starting to think that people don't hate her. I'm starting to think the people who voted her on that list, were more of the mindset that they personally love her, but the characters in the show find her annoying.
Wow that's crazy, I've seen the Wendy hatred for years, especially in fandom spaces. I love both Style and Stendy but a lot of style shippers have always resented her for simply being Stan's gf.
"please don't put words in my mouth." why is that the way you chose to say this? do you think the youtube video title was talking about you specifically?
I didn't realize other fans hated Wendy. I always thought she was cool. But man, I love your south park videos. Can we expect a Chef analysis episode sometime in the future?
She calls out cartman on his BS. She called out people using filters on social media… I wonder why people hate her, she is literally hurting their ego lol She is a well developed character.
Wendy has always been one of my favorite characters in South Park. She’s hands down one of the most complex characters as well. There were always good choices in her development from intellectual to emotional. 💖💜
Not supposed to be mate, she's a device put in there to accompany the main characters. Not every character in a comedy needs to be hilarious, some characters are devices to allow the main characters to thrive. @@Buffetinpelätyin
As a guy I like her character now. But I will admit that when I watched South Park in my teens it sometimes felt like she was just a girl intruding on the boys shennanigans. They touched on it in this video, you mainly follow the boys and sometimes dads POV's in this show, the creators are men and the audiance is mostly male after all. And especially as a teenager I could find it a bit annoying when the female characters stole the spotlight beacuse I couldn't relate to them as much, Wendy was the most in your face about it. Now I appreciate what it does for the depth of the show though.
I noticed a lot in media that if a female character has any flaws the majority of the fandom will latch on to it and no matter how much growth is shown they will always be considered unredeemable
I like the fact she’s a representation of first wave feminism as she actively opposed Paris Hilton being a role model for young women which definitely is going against what a lot of what feminists believe today.
I'm not sure what you mean in the second half of the statement, Parris Hilton isn't a notable feminist and I'm guessing most feminists of the modern day would agree with her.
Man I don't think you know what first wave feminism is, you could maybe make the argument that she is representative of 2nd or 3rd wave feminism, but 1st wave feminism was explicitly racist and exclusionary to anyone who wasn't a well off, married white woman. Arguably even modern conservatives are more progressive than first wave feminists.
Wouldn't Wendy be a 3rd wave feminist? I may be wrong but I think her deep political activism had some aspects of intersectionality. And she definitely internalised 2nd wave feminism completely with her insistence on equal representation and recognition. At least going by the feminist history I was taught in University
Wendy is one of my favorite characters on the show! The episode where she beats up Cartman for mocking Breast Cancer was one of her best moments! She’s a good girlfriend to Stan and she always stands up for what she believes in.
Well, in the "You have 0 friends" episode she got pissed at Stan for petty shit, like the fact that his profile stated he was single (to be fair, if you are in a relationship and it's not a secret, I see why you would want your partner to have the status as in a relationship and Wendy is young, but she didn't let him explain himself, his friends made the profile for him and he didn't know about the status) and that another girl commented he was cute in a bunny suit and he thanked her. Granted, she is nice in most episodes and all South Park characters acted like assholes on occasion.
I think one of her standout episodes to me was definitely Dances with Smurfs. Wendy by then knows Cartmans angle, he knows what he will do to simple go against her, and she wants to stay out of it to the best of her ability.. but once she realizes its going beyond school she has to do something and in an insanely smart move, out-Cartman'd Cartman. And she won, she lost Student Body President but made Cartman it, making him both lose his morning announcements position AND have him endure criticism for something he ultimately cannot control. It was such a great episode to see Wendy quickly and efficiently turn around the situation.
Same, but I don’t hate cartman I think he’s funny like obviously I’m not a fan of his actions but tbh he’s like one of those characters you hate but also like
Did you know that even though both characters have been in the show since the beginning of the show, the season 22 episode “The Scoots” is the first episode to have an interaction between Wendy and Kenny
Being one who has seen everything SP has given us, I always loved Wendy, especially as her character has evolved in the South Park Universe. Great content Johnny!
I personally dont hate Wendy. I do find her to be a bit of a hypocrite though. For example, the hobbit episode. She had an issue with Butters calling Lisa fat and ugly but she called her fat and ugly herself. She also could have hated on Kim Kardashian for anything but instead went after her looks. She was basically like "It's bad for guys to talk bad about women but I can talk bad about women." That did make her come off as a hater because the whole episode all she does is go for people looks yet say its wrong when the boys do it. I did enjoy the episode but I feel like it shows the hypocrisy of Wendy.
Cartman and Wendy are two of my favorite characters in South Park and they have a great dynamic. Cartman getting his ass kicked by Wendy is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.
My earliest memories of Wendy hate are reading comments from Stan/Kyle shippers in DeviantArt back in the 2000s. Seriously, the fact that the shipper hate is still going on today makes me wish that Sarcastic Chorus would call it out if he ever covers South Park ships someday. EDIT: And you know what's really ridiculous about the whole "Wendy is to blame for getting in the way of Style" argument? *BOTH* Stendy and Style got fucked over over time, as the recent seasons put an ever-increasing focus on Randy, Cartman, Butters, PC Principal and Garrison, and not enough focus on them. It's real easy to feel less invested in both ships from that, especially since recent episodes like "Cupid Ye" and "Deep Learning" portrayed them in a negative light. (Yet somehow it's like the shippers are still stuck on Season 15 and never moved on since then.) No, Wendy is not to blame for getting in the way of Style. *Randy, Cartman, Butters, PC Principal and Garrison are to blame for getting in the way of Style and Stendy's screentime.*
I'm honestly still disappointed that the Gender Wars never got any proper conclusion. After Trey and Matt rewrote "Oh Jeez" they could've used the next seasons to end the arc instead but rather they just said "fuck it".
Ironically there's a creepypasta Stendy story on Deviantart someone made year ago about how Wendy wants Stan back and tried to show him she still cares for him even after their third breakup but this time Stan having none of it
As some who loves Cartman but can see that he is 1000% a monster. I really enjoy when he gets his comeuppance. And Wendy beating him up for making fun of Breast cancer was the most cathartic thing ever put to television
Wendy being hated is such a surprise to me. She legitimately seems like the most random character for fans to hate, honestly. Like, at least people who don’t like Randy I can kinda see where they’re coming from. He’s almost completely taken over the show and I can imagine people tuning in specifically to watch the kid stuff would get annoyed by that. But Wendy? She doesn’t even really feel like she has a significant enough role for people to hate her in the first place. Seriously tho, I think that she’s a really interesting character. Would be cool to see her used more often
@@genera1013um no How about this Not everyone takes the show seriously and just cares about the show being funny and entertaining. Wendy often stops the funny and just makes the show less enjoyable because she interferes with plots that are funny or entertaining. This was made by a Kenny fan btw
How could she be hated for being a feminist? She's not even a straw feminist who makes feminism look bad. PC Principal in fact is and he isn't even that hated as far as I'm aware.
"What about not holding anything against the person who wins?" "Well, not if it's Cartman!" What they apparently forgot was that Cartman didn't actually even win; he cheated by plagiarizing her work, so of course she has the right to hold it against him.
I think Wendy is at the center of some of the show's all time best episodes: Raisins, the list, breast cancer show ever, follow that egg... she's not the best but I think she helps create some really interesting conflict, mostly with Stan (the GOAT)
Wendy is personally my favorite female character in the show. Her interactions with cartman make for great entertainment, I wish we had a whole season of just them screwing with eachother.
The title took me by surprise! I honestly just have seen the general later seasons of SP but I love Wendy and was surprised to hear she has so much hate, amazing video and your friend did such a stellar job writing it
I like other people never knew Wendy was hated. I do want to say that Wendy beating up Cartman made me feel bad for him, but I think the Cartman fans should be glad that Cartman survived at all because Wendy’s history is crazy. In fact, both characters have so much in common because proven time and time again that nobody messes with them. Cartman being beaten up was just a dose of karma for all the things he did, and Wendy was the perfect character for that. Also, I’m quite a fan of Randy which might be why I didn’t ever hate Wendy because Wendy only hates Cartman, and not Randy.
there is seriously very good and short reason why people hate (modern) wendy: After the Episode "the list", She does never do anything funny in a comedy show and she is always just complaining about something .She is the Lisa Simpson of South park. and Lisa is also the leased liked of the simpsons familiy. Also "Wendy instigated a Protests that l that turns into a mass breakup" Yes all girls break up with the boys, even thought they were totally innocent in the skankhunt thing and the girls had no prove. and "navigate a society that demonizes her for just existing" see the sentence before that one. All girls startet demonizing the boys, just because they are boys, not because the specific boys had done anything. its pretty much a double standard if you say oh that poor girl is treated badly cause she is a girl and that is wrong, but then ignore it when the other side does the same to the boys.
Wendy Is My Favorite South Park Character. Mary Kay Bergman Voiced Wendy But She Past Away In November 11, 1999. She Voiced Other Characters In South Park. Wendy’s Voice Actor Was Replaced By April Stewart.
First time i have ever heard of people hating Wendy. Matt and Trey talking about her beating cartman up is great to listen too. She is amazing South Park the Fracture but Whole, she is always on my team in that game. Would like more Wendy tbh, feel like she hasn't been in it as much. Some of the best episodes are with her. She seems to be one of the smartest characters in south park, and i include the adults in that.
Wendy is one of my favourite characters as she’s one of the only people to beat the shit out of Cartman which was so satisfying and put Cartman in his place that why I love her so much
Wendy is the best 💕 I really enjoyed her in TFBW as Call Girl, really useful in battle with all her Defense Downs and also a slow and having high health. Not to mention her powers are all perfectly fitting for her, and just reaffirms how smart she is!
I'm sure some people's favorite Simpsons character is Lisa, but that doesn't change the fact that she's one of the least fun characters in a comedy show that's supposed to be fun/funny. We're psychologically primed to dislike the one constantly reality checking a silly fantasy or shooting down/derailing the plans of the protagonists(characters who's point of view we experience as the viewers, not necessarily good or evil aligned), even if they aren't an antagonist themselves.
I’m always surprised that she’s not really close friends with Kyle, I know she’s not close with any of the boys outside of Stan, but I always figured they’d at least be friends, but then again I can also imagine Kyle not wanting to be friends with her cause Stan might get jealous again.
Wendy is the exact opposite of a polar opposite, if anything She is more able to relate to cartman than anything, shes openly a hypocrite, manipulative, narcissistic. She pretends shes better than cartman but is only much better at hiding her feelings than he is.
One of my favourite South Park characters ever since I started watching nearly 15 years ago. She is not prominent very often, a shame. But I'm certainly aware that a vocal minority in the fandom hate her. Those haters are often big Cartman fans. A character I actually dislike (don't get me wrong, I totally get how important Cartman is for South Park, just wish he would get his comeuppance more often).
Wendy, when her current personality was actualized, became one of my favorite characters of the show. Just behind Kenny and then Butters. I love her sense of justice.
Surprising to me how lots of people in the comments don’t know people do hate Wendy, because I’ve seen many hate her. It must be on the other spectrum of the fandom where there’s yaoi gallore, fanart and fanfics, because I’ve seen many fans paint Wendy as a villain or an obstacle between Stan and Kyle’s “relationship”.
@@southshart Nah, a good chunk of them do dislike her, not just right wingers. Misogyny has no political affiliation. Her case has happened in many fandoms - female in the way of mlm ships. Some go far to call a 4th grade character a narcissist and toxic girlfriend for the more popular Stan. The case is not exclusive to the SP fandom and is definitely a common occurrence. Say, take Mel Medarda from Arcane. If you’re on that side of the SP fandom and haven’t seen it, it sounds like the decent subdivision. I’m on that area too. But the hate still exists not too far from here, I’ve definitely seen it and don’t know what else to say 🤷🏻♀️
@@ajiansaa i mean yea ur right but the people i interact with all love her. and i’m a style shipper and interact with a lot of them too but i do see those annoying fans who only dislike her bc of the ship or paint her as the villain sometimes (mostly on tiktok)
Kyle and Cartman are very important characters because they were the first ones whose family members appeared in the show, they were the only ones who relatives, any of their relatives, appeared in any pilot. :)
Wendy is one of my favourite regular members of the cast. She is genuinely a sweet girl with high moral standards. I always feel Stan needs to understand that a bit more.
Stan doesn't deserve Wendy. But actually that's a theme of the show. Most of the boys and men in the show don't deserve the kindness, empathy, and self sacrifice the girls and women make for them, and which they take for granted. I feel like Gerald and Sheila are the only couple that actually deserve each other; not because they are so perfect but because their relationship isn't so lopsided.
This may just be me, but I have felt for a bit that it would help spice things up if Wendy was part of the main cast. Just that she'd be able to tell some more that the 4 boys + Randy wouldn't be able to.
I think disliking Wendy (for a lot of people) comes from simplemindedness. We see Cartman the most, and Cartman is the funniest, so naturally, we dislike the antagonist to Cartman, especially if she’s a girl (female characters in general are just less liked by male audiences) Same reason why everybody hated Skyler from Breaking Bad. Skylar was a smart, good woman who just wanted to keep her family together. But because she stood in the way of the most interesting and likeable character, Walter White, everyone acted like she was this horrible villain.
Wendy is my second favorite character in the entire show, only slightly behind Kyle. I never knew there were fans that hated her. Makes me sad to hear. The episode where she beats up Cartman for making fun of Breast Cancer is to this day still one of my favorites.
I think there's another big reason why some fans don't like Wendy. She ruins there ships. I've seen quite a lot of people in the fandom hate on her because it confirms that Stan x Kyle isn't cannon or whatever. Personally, she's one of my favourite characters in the show, she has her flaws of course, but I think she's one of the best depictions of a feminist in media as a whole.
Very encouraged by how many of you didn’t even realize some fans hate Wendy!
I had no idea, I realy like wendy
I'm starting to think that the fans that hate Wendy are just a relatively small, very loud minority.
It’s probably the five Reddit fans screaming so loud no one else can hear. I’m actually so confused by people not liking Wendy. Literally never heard that opinion even once honestly
Yeah I had no idea people hated her
I'm a VERY casual fan of southpark but I've literally never heard of this hate before
If you see Cartman as the hero of the show, Wendy is a villain. I think that sentiment explains some of the hatred of her. Regardless of how people feel, it’s hard to deny that she’s one of the most well-written characters in the show, and that she fills her role perfectly.
Amén to that. And She's a hero. Cartman is a villain protagonist, She's a hero antagonist. And her beatdown of him is legendary. Love your content btw
@@thirdpedalnirvanareal. People who think that scare me. Like stay tf away from me, what.

She’s the squidward of South Park, she’s not a bad person or a villain, she’s just a foil to the fun wackiness that goes on, same with squidward, he’s just a guy who wants peace and quiet in his own home & stops the main characters from doing main character stuff.
Squidward literally admit multiple times throughout the series that he's a bad person with a holier than thou complex to his beliefs.
@@Spectre-69 wait when?
I prefer Squidward, let’s not forget he’s not the annoying one. She annoys and takes the fun, and while I don’t dislike her it can get on my nerves

Another reason why Wendy is hated is because of the Style Shippers. I have seen in the fandom, both in the English and Latino communities, that they hate Wendy more than anything because of the fact that she interferes with the “romantic” relationship that Stan would have with Kyle, or that she is unfaithful, or as they say According to these people's arguments, Wendy is a “slut or bitch.”
And really, I can understand that fans don't like Wendy because of things like she's too cynical or hypocritical, but hating her on a whim or that it's really stupid to hate her just because she's also Stan's girlfriend; Something that bothers Style Shippers and they detest Wendy to the point of insulting an incredible character like Wendy by calling her the worst possible names.
Wendy may have her moments where she is hypocritical but she is really a good character, she is not a hollow or stupid girl, she has also shown to have concerns towards her friends and has been bullied by her own friends and very hard and sad moments with her that makes you have a lot of empathy for her.

I’m in the minority that Matt and Trey broke Cartman with “Scott Tenorman Must Die”. They crossed a line info making him a cold-blooded psychopath and I think fans just don’t want the “respect my authoritah!” walking id to be actually evil.
I was looking for this comment because I totally agree, the nagging voice of reason can come off as annoying even if she’s 100% in the right
People clearly think Cartman is the villian. In what world do you live in where you think most people dont think he is a bad person?
Skylar is a genuinely bad person unlike Wendy, it is not the same lol
I think some people forget about the concept of the villain protagonist, a slot I think Cartman fits into. Yeah, the show has occasionally given possible reasons for why he is how he is, such as permissive parenting and a lack of a strong father figure, but most times there is no reason why Cartman is this way. He's just a pathetic a*s-hole because he wants to be. The show never treats Cartman like he's right about anything he says and viewers who understand thar DON'T like Cartman because he's right or a hero. They like him because he's funny.

@@DavidRamirez-se2yt feminists today praise women on onlyfans. Wendy clearly would call them bad role models
@@DavidRamirez-se2ytthere's a lot of people who actually see Paris as a feminist icon. Even today.
Wouldn't Wendy be a 3rd wave feminist? I may be wrong but I think her deep political activism had some aspects of intersectionality.

At least going by the feminist history I was taught in University
to be honest I loved when she finally got to beat up Cartman. It was like yeah he pushed her past her limit
Wendy is a great character. She adds badly needed nuance to the story that far too often falls on the perspective of the immaturity of the boys.
Oh yeah, sometimes their relationship has double standards where Stan is in the wrong.

(Yet somehow it's like the shippers are still stuck on Season 15 and never moved on since then.)

@@UCannotDefeatMyShmeat that seems like a good way to explain it.

I'm numb to Wendy, but even as a left-lesning centrist woman I found Lisa to be annoying.
I’m always surprised that she’s not really close friends with Kyle, I know she’s not close with any of the boys outside of Stan, but I always figured they’d at least be friends, but then again I can also imagine Kyle not wanting to be friends with her cause Stan might get jealous again.
Wendy is the exact opposite of a polar opposite, if anything
She is more able to relate to cartman than anything, shes openly a hypocrite, manipulative, narcissistic.

Wendy is definitely in my top 5 favourite characters, at LEAST
We see Cartman the most, and Cartman is the funniest, so naturally, we dislike the antagonist to Cartman, especially if she’s a girl (female characters in general are just less liked by male audiences)
Same reason why everybody hated Skyler from Breaking Bad.
