Timmy Burch wasn’t introduced until season 4 of South Park, but he INSTANTLY made a huge splash, and is easily one of the fandoms favorite characters in the show. I think it would be easy to expect South Park to make the handicapped kid a punchline, but on the contrary, Timmy is an incredibly well rounded and well respected character. By both fans AND the other characters in the show. And though he maybe doesn’t get as much focus as he did previously, he remains easily one of the most popular. So today, let’s explore the ins and outs of South Park’s Timmy Burch.

Timmy using Kenny's Jacket as he tries to murder Jimmy has such interesting implications considering almost everyone else is incapable of remembering Kenny dying.
I wonder if during time traveling he saw how Kenny was born and made and knows of his powers but decides to keep it secret even from Kenny himself 🤔
@@skateorpie I mean, what is he gonna say?
TIMMY!!!!!
@@JubileeCaptcha KENNY!
I think Cartman is the only one who has ever made it known that he is aware of Kenny's repeated deaths, he's just not concerned about it since Kenny always comes back after
That is messed up considering that means the only other person who knows about Kenny's eternal suffering is the one person who can't tell anyone about it.
“He’s disabled, but he doesn’t let it ruin his life”
Timmy in the back of the truck
“AaaAaHhhHh!!!
That got me, stupid good writing.
I wonder if that was also a commentary on how disabled people may have felt about Timmy’s popularity at the time.
My brother was like Timmy. He was disabled, he could barely speak, and he did need assistant for a lot of things we take for granted. But he was also loving, smart, and always happy. I think it’s really honorable the way South Park uses Timmy, and I wish more media would acknowledge the overlooked community that Timmy represents.
Did you kick your baby brother?
Dude
Dont kick the baby
Timmy is one of those characters that's so nice you question how the fuck he was born in south park. Him learning to say the band name because he doesn't want anyone to feel excluded, and the episode where he gets attached to the disabled turkey are so sweet. Seeing a character being genuinely tender just because they want to is rare in that town.
You better cut it out with your accurate and honestly sweet view of the show or else I'll..... Cry probs, idk.
Honestly, Timmy is one of the nicest kids in South Park. It was always nice to see him being the main focus on the show. Probably my favorites have to go to Timmy 2000 and Helen Keller! The Musicial
Timmy's relationship with Gobbles is the best
His concern for Jimmy when Jimmy was using steroids was so nice and kind
@Cthulus_left_tentacle didn't he actually say "gobbles" in that episode? 😅
The time travel joke was top tier. it is both a joke at timmy's expense on a meta level, as well as being the punchline of a time travel joke because he can't tell anyone of his adventures, so him being all over time is a secret kept to himself.
That reminds me of a video game called “loaded” there was a character that has been everywhere and seen everything… but they cant convey what they have seen or how they feel… ( mostly just a top down shootem up game.)
Timmy!!!
"What can you tell us timmy?"
Timmy's thoughts: "Bro I literally cannot tell you what the fuck"
In the Willzyax episode, I still love Timmy’s whispered _”Timmeh”_ while they’re sneaking past the security guard 😂
Almost as great as his *"Timmeh"'* whisper in Timmy 2000!
He did it while sneaking into Cartman's house, too.
Timmy is definitely one of my favorite characters from the series and it makes me a little sad that he’s fallen into the background over the years. It’s kind of crazy how frequently used Timmy was throughout seasons 4-10 considering that he went for several seasons afterwards without saying a word. His prominence in The Fractured But Whole and Handicar at least gave us some great moments, but more Timmy is only a great thing. Hope to see him make another return soon!
Yeah, Timmy's last major role for a long time was in season 8's up the down steroid
We also got him as a primary character in The Fractured but Whole video game sequel to Stick of Truth.
Matt n Trey are good at picking characters to focus on. Simply put no stories they've had have a easy slot for Timmay. When he can fit in a story he'll slot in fine but he's usually there in episodes focused on the disabled.
Sadly he does just say Timmay. It is hard for him to fit in when Jimmy actually talks more.
If I remember correctly, Trey addressed the reason for this is because Timmy can’t speak dialogue and it’s very hard to write compelling stories when your character can only say one thing.
Granted, the lack of focus on him gives him the luxury of being probably the only kid in the South Park cast without godawful parents, as they only show up once and never again. Come to think of it, his house also doesn't get shown again after Timmy 2000, not even in the games...
South Park unironically has the greatest disability representation of any show in history
True
My mom is a teacher for kids with disabilities, she has a 25+ year career
One of the things that I've learned from her is that the best way to make people with disabilities feel included and free, is to let them participate and make choices 😂
Is that simple, and the writers of South Park nailed it, they don't celebrate Timmy doing normal stuff, they don't patronize him either, and let him just be a regular kid
The "Timmy 2000" episode reminded me of anecdote from my mom about a kid with down syndrome who was obsessed with motorcycles
At that time all his family and the teachers were worried he was going to hurt himself if they let him near one, but one day he managed to get to the bike of one oh the teachers
Not only he didn't do anything crazy, he just explored it and made questions, but also he was visibly happier after that
That was almost 10 years ago, and iirc, he is now a mechanic
My mom hates South Park, but she'd agree that Timmy has been treated well
Him in the band is still my favorite besides the crips episode
That is great to hear about.
My dad also worked with disabled kids for about as long and man. From the stories ive heard i wish real disabled students got treated as well as timmy does in the show. The way hes encouraged and allowed to integrate with the rest of the students is something that i feel is not done nearly as much in the real world unfortunately.
@@L1ncore totally
@@L1ncoreThere's this one diaabled kid at my school. I dont know his exact disability, but I always hated how they kept him away from the rest of us. I wanted to be his friend, but now I see him even less than I used to.
As a person with a disability I love the way SP treats Jimmy and Timmy. Beyond being entertaining, it just gives me joy that Matt and Trey get it.
Why didn't you stop 9/11??? You just watch. Always watching...
@@rosecity_chrisare you high?
To think that they got so much material out of a kid who can only say his own name!
I love that he provided the fast travel for Stick of Truth.
That's not true.
He can say "JIMMAY" too.
@@BluePhoenix_ Jimmy actually managed to take over Fast Travel duties in Fractured But Whole too!
@@BluePhoenix_he also says “Fast Travel” in Stick of Truth and “Please help me” in The Fourth Grade.
@@BluePhoenix_he also says “Fast Travel” in Stick of Truth and “Please help me” in The Fourth Grade.
i think the point is tahg he can do more then ssay his name lol. he is a compassionate individual who truely cares for others.
I really love the way that Timmy was utilised in The Fractured But Whole game as a Professor X character especially how he talks with telepathy. My interpretation of this choice is that he has such powerful psychic powers that he can’t talk like other people and so he has to communicate through telepathy
I like your interpretation. It’s nice and interesting. However, I think it sounds good for a headcanon for now
“You guys are kind of douchebags”😂
Timmy and jimmy while handicap jokes they don’t get stale the writers somehow find ways to keep their characters fresh with each appearance
They aren’t really jokes though, they are characters, they just happen to be handicapped
I think the reason they're able to stay fresh and funny for so long is BECAUSE they don't rely on their disabilities for jokes. Their funniest moments come from their individual personalities outside their disabilities, which really shows how much care was put into the as characters
I gave my father a full on presentation about how much nuance the show had because I wasn't allowed to watch it. Pops had a jank leg from a bout of polio as a kid. If it weren't for Timmy and Jimmy, what I thought was a great case for the show would have been just some dumb ass kid shit.
We watched quite a bit of SP together afterwards 😅
Wait wait wait, in the Mysterion episodes we learn that everyone forgets that Kenny dies, Timmy knew that Kenny was in danger every second of his life, Timmy knows that Kenny constantly dies. Something so small is actually so large!
as you can tell by my picture i love Timmy he's the best we even look alike
they got everything right the smile the hand movements and how he holds one hand in the other are all stuff I do.
How sweet!
South Park is genius stuff. Glad you love TIMMEH
Ad a disabled person. It's awesome how matt and trey handle jimmy and timmy.
When i was a kid i was walking to school. A random person came up and said it is so great you're out and about. I was so shocked i fell silent and she asked a friend if i could speak. I don't like how many people don't treat disabled people with the bare minimum of respect.
There’s this short ginger kid at my school named Timmy and everyone calls him TIMMAY but he’s the nicest guy I know
Brap!
When I first saw Timmy’s design, I thought it was meant to be offensive and the creator believed handicapped people were idiotic, but when I watched all the episodes I saw that the creators weren’t being offensive actually being diverse. Timmy became one of my favorite characters in South Park.
The scene when Timmy tries to tell Jimmy off to Mr Mackey and gets mad because he doesnt know what he's saying really hit me hard. Because there used to be a disabled kid at my school who was sort of similar to Timmy, that no one around could really understand him.
You know what, this video just made me realize something. Jimmy has amazing credibility and accountability once he becomes a journalist in the paper. That comes after the special olympics, so we really did see Timmy's acts of good reverb going on forward which then rippled cause other storylines. Great writing
What I love about timmy and jimmy is that their handicaps are not just setdressing but sometimes the jokes we laugh about. not because we feel pity but just like in life we find things others act and say funny. jimmy unable to form sentences is hilarious it is apart of his disability but we care about him as a character and the stuttering is funny and something we love about them. everyone has jokes made at their expense but between friends and people who care it's not out of malice but some slight ribbing. they are characters who are disabled not disabled characters and that is rarely seen.
As a disabled person, I can confirm that South Park has some of the best disability representation that I've ever seen in media.
TIMMAY
Timmy and Jimmy are probably my favorites besides Kenny and Butters. Timmy’s love for the turkey made my heart melt 😭💕
I appreciate Matt and Trey just treating the disabled kids like real people, not a punch line. (Well, most of the time)
I am currently binging on ALL the South Park episodes so these videos are a treat!
Yeah they are usually really good about the way they present their disabled characters! Obviously there are some moments where them having a disability is the punchline, but those are far and few in between
You should really go to sleep.
@@randomdudeiminternetbrother it's 2pm. I got off work 3 hours ago lol
pov timezones
Nice to see more Timmy and Jimmy appreciation. Also, I always thought Timmy’s interactions with Gobbles is so sweet but it’s sad about who knows what happened to Gobbles afterwards. As for you binge watching the episodes, who knows when season 27 will come out along with 2 other South Park specials. Although, I heard that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are collaborating with Kendrick Lamar in a live action film
Long time South Park fan here, I remember growing up watching reruns of episodes before I finally started to get into the show on a regular basis when season 8 aired.
I always loved Timmy's character, even if sometimes I felt uncomfortable in certain moments because I was a kid and adults would always tell me and everyone else that people with severe mental disabilities were not to be made fun of or laughed at.
But the way in which Timmy was treated by the boys was so akin to what it's like being a child and still having the innocence to not fully understand why Timmy is the way he is but include and befriend him, because it's not about what Timmy can and cannot do compared to everyone else, it's quite literally what their adventure is going to be today and Timmy is riding in tow with the action.
Like Johnny and some of the rest of you, I felt disappointed when Timmy took a back seat in the following seasons so that Jimmy could ride shotgun with the plot. But, the same can be said for characters like Wendy, Token, and Craig, not always in the spotlight, but still important enough to escape permanent death in the series.
I would love to see more episodes centered around Timmy, his early episodes are iconic and can never be replaced. The steroids and Gobbles episodes live rent free in my mind but there's definitely room for more.
honestly a South Park spin-off about Timmy's time travelling adventures would be cool
As someone who is neurodivergent along with a physical disability which I have to use a wheelchair because of. I sincerely appreciate Matt and Treys's willingness to do this kind of representation. Ppl with disabilities whether it be physical, mental, visible, or invisible. We're all human beings. Also, most disabled people are are golden when it comes to having the ability to take a joke and / or dish one out!😂😂😂 but just like with all groups of people, you have butt hurt sections of the community. I don't affiliate with said sections of that community.
But with no bitches
The reveal of Timmy's franchise plan still gives me chills
Timmy is also mentioned in the Ludacris verse of Missy Elliot's "Gossip Folks"
The end of Post-Covid brought me so much joy, the kid is going to be alright 🥹
TIMMAHHHHH.
you are a bot.
I named my pet turkey, Gobbles, after Timmy, he's pretty fucking cool.
Timmy is literally what brought me to South Park. I love the character. Even my girlfriend who has never seen South Park will randomly yell to me “timmah!”😂
I simply love how Timmy, along with Jimmy both have happy lives full of supportive friends inspite of their disabilities.
9:43 "It's Kenny! Open Fire." ( Gets me every time 😂😂😂😂)
Imo people don't appreciate Nathan enough. He is a rly good representation of how some people treat humans with disabilities, thinking they are inherently slow and can't think even if they a rly smart.
Great vid though, I love coming to ur channel for the chill vibes and thoughtful analysis.
I only now realized that the noise he makes kinda sounds like “living a lie” thanks to your edit. Everything I know is in question.
Guess you could say I was…living a lie
I actually love how alot of the jokes with timmy is just that yes fucking cool and a great guy... Like, i swear. Its so nice!
Man I really like these side character analysis videos. Maybe you could do a Clyde or craig video not sure if there is enough there for either of them but it would be cool to see a Clyde video like this especially since he was pretty much the main focus of the CRED special.
Great Job Man 👏
As someone who didn’t see the earlier seasons until recent I did NOT expect the beef between Jimmy and Timmy at first
I love timmy. My dad used to teach students with developmental disabilities, and many of them had limited language and were wheelchair users like timmy is. Its great that they allow him to be such a joyful character who still gets up to mischief just like any other kid. Actually feels like a proper representation of disabled kids rather than treating him like a prop (which i feel Many shows fall into).
I have a Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld shirt and I am proud of it.
The bus that couldn’t slow down
I love how the show and both rpg games portraits Timmy and Jimmy as completely equal to other boys. They are all friends and they play with each other, quarrel with each other and reconsile with each other. Even Nate and Mimsy has some other qualities than just being handicapped. Nate is always-scheming and Mimsy is loyal and kind-hearted and even their disabilities are not the poiny of joke- it's usually the fact that Nate's schemes always backfires in a big way.
I've never really been a big fan of South Park, but the way they treated Timmy was something I always had a great deal of respect for.
We would quote so mutch "CRIPLE FIGHT" among my friends when two people where having a dumb argument😂
There was a kart racing flash game back in the day (not to be confused with South Park Rally on N64) and Timmy was the both the final character you unlocked and the best character. He was so good, no races had Timmy as a CPU opponent
I have a lot of issues with South Park but Timmy's character is one thing I'll always give them props for
The Lords of the Underworld should make a comeback at some point.
I had a friend in the 2nd through 4th grade who had a speech impediment and motor control that was not the norm, hence being able to use a keyboard/computer for assignments. And everyone in my class accepted him like any other classmate. It went along ways in how I perceived anyone in my life that didn’t fit the norm. This was in the late 90s. Long live Timmy!
As a nonverbal person Timmy is very relatable
homestuck and survivor
@@user-dn6dq1tn8rdo you see something and feel the uncontrollable urge to just say what it's from?
eridan pfp omg hiiiiii you are so cool
My cousin is nonverbal, and can’t really communicate with us, no offense intended, but how were you taught to write? (I want to help him learn)
@@dylankuzanek8109 it’s very different for everyone but I was taught from watching videos and little games to make it more fun, it’s not for everyone but that’s what makes us all special
Watching these videos are dangerous because I inevitably go and watch at least one episode you talk about......brb going to watch S04E03
Timmy vs Jimmy was the greatest fight in South Park history. Change my mind.
I mean.. Cartman vs Wendy was peak too
@Forthakine cartman got a punch in, so that makes it a fight
Crazy Cripples is a top tier episode.
The two boys accidentally joining a gang yet becoming a beloved members of said gang 😂 where they are accepted as true Crips 😆
Then the one liners were just so classic... The kind you repeat to each other years later...
There's pizza... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣such a funny line!
And in up the down steroid where Jimmy was trying to explain to Mr Mackey about Jimmy and just said Jimmy and Timmy like 28 times 😂
Fantastic stuff for sure.
What an amazing video dude. Timmy, like so many other characters in the show, has really grown on me over the years. Keep up the great work!
TIMMY! TIMMY!
I really like when Jimmy was introduced and Timmy got jealous. It was like "hey look were not just having him be a good kid, he can be an asshole like the other boys too"
You legit made me cry, great video
So sweet and endearing
The Fractured But Whole is my favorite South Park game, god I hope they return to that formula if they make another one.
Hey thanks for playing that last clip. I had looked for it because I couldn’t watch the special and has forgotten about it
Gotta love Timmy, he was a great depiction of a special needs child and what they can do when they are treated well/properly
Timmy and Jimmy are definitely my favorite characters. I like how they aren’t defined by their disabilities and viewed as people. I love how South Park does this!
Love this character analysis!!
Timmy definitely needs more screen time, but that’s the only real issue. Nothing will ever beat how the kids needed to make sure Timmy wouldn’t go to hell. It’s such a brilliant plot because it’s totally believable that kids would come to the logical conclusion that the kid who can’t talk can’t confess his sins.
Fantastic video! Timmy's definitely one of my favorite. Hopefully eventually you'll do a video on the new kid from the games
Timmy is the type of diversity that every piece of media should strive for. Having characters that aren’t limited to just their gimmicks. As much as representation is more common nowadays. How often will you find an episode of a tv show or movie where a gay, trans or disabled person isn’t part of a story about their identity. Those stories are no doubt important in order to reverse a lot of the bigotry aimed that them for decades now. But at the same time. This is kind of representation is important to. True equality. Not just brining out your token characters when you want to write a story about a certain group.
Timmy and Jimmy are some of mt favourite characters, with his jealousy being his only real flaw, which he in South Park fashion, never really got over.
When I was a Kid, Timmie was the first character I learned about. Cartman was the second
Timmy and the Lords of the underworld😂
My favourite Timmy scene is definitely the one where he tries to explain to Mr Mackey that Jimmy is taking steroids to win the Special Olympics
Another fire video, good work.
Bro in my school during science all the boys will go “Jimmeh-!” and I just am thinking *DANG THEY SO DUMB THEY CANT GET HIS NAME RIGHT*
Yeah over time Timmy has become more of a background character. He doesn't really get invovled much in the newer seasons.
The Doctor Timothy fight actually had me fuming from how much trouble I had during it.
This is how representation should be done. Timmy and Jimmy are characters first and foremost. They just happen to be disabled. And I love how Dr. Timothy made it crystal clear that Timmy is actually one of the smartest kids, he just doesn't communicate the same way everyone else does.
such a wonderful character
"Ooo, Timmay." is top tier dialogue
I loved the episode when Timmy was trying to explain how Jimmy was on steroids 😂😂😂 Jimmeh jimmeh in a sad disappointed tone
It must time for more Timmy !
My favorite Jimmy Timmy Power Hour
As someone who is on the spectrum Timmy is one of my favorite characters
When I was a very bad accident and I had a stroke in my mid 30’s I had the same idea as the creators feeling: I felt like I was hidden most people feeling
I love the jimmy and timmy dynamic
TIMMAY!
Stan's dad with the heterosexual outfit looks like my dad minus the interesting clothes
Cripple fight he stands up like 3 times 😂
Its a shame we didnt get to play as him in fracture butt whole, but he had great lines
It's the Jimmy timmy power hour
I love how the writers use Timmy and how the other kids treat him as "one of the guys"
South Park has a perception to ppl who haven’t really watched it
The crips and steroid eps are some of the best!
To say that Timmy shouldn't be on TV feels the same as saying disabled people don't deserve to exist. It's intolerant & evil. I attended public schools & EVERYONE treated the wheelchair-bound children exactly the same as anyone else. Looking down on others for simply being different from your personal version of 'normal' is evil. Without Timmy, there is no 🔥🎶Timmy & The Lords of The Underworld or 🐴Sir Timmy's Fast Travel!
I’m excited Johnny going down the different kids in South Park I’m so ready for a tweek and Craig maybe Tolkien synopsis!
The only time i think timmy was made a joke was cripple fight
TIMMY!
Yay.
Also Timmeh
TIMMAHHHHH
Jimmy…
Timmy…
Only one more kid in this trifecta to go!
Timmy is one of the characters who reminds me of why I think South Park works: The show takes a simple issue that society tends to overcomplicate and then throws that same issue back in our face.
It's as you said about the creators VS. the network. The network was worried about backlash surrounding a disabled character and how they're portrayed, and the creators were just like, "You're stupid, now hold my beer," and showed the audience specifically why the issue was stupid, why it was easy to fix, and why it didn't need to become a complicated nightmare.
Timmy (and Jimmy, for that matter) work partially because South Park reminds us that sometimes society makes things way harder than it needs to be and that we don't need to overcomplicate things by pushing our own ignorant perceptions onto the issue.
Like the issue of how to "properly" treat the disabled.
It's easy. Treat them as you would anyone else. This is sh*t we learned in elementary school. Clearly, the South Park kids understood that. Why can't the rest of us?
Timmy and Jimmy are both great.
Love this
I wrote a paper for a class about Timmy and Jimmy and the great representation of people with disabilities that south park portrays. I got an A+ on the paper and got the professor to check out South Park so win win
