Continuing from last week’s video catching cuttlefish off Wellington point, I headed over to the West Peel Artificial Reef to chase some reef species using them as live bait.
It was worth the effort. Once I found the fish on the sounder it didn’t take very long to land three nice specimens.
For those of you who are wondering about the WoPAR in the title, it started off as a private joke among a few friends, standing for West of Peel Artificial Reef (WoPAR pronounced whopper), home to whoppers.

What a great trip!, you are making me jealous.
With great bait like that it makes a difference.
I have never picked up much good fish on West Peel, lots of small ones with the occasional plate size. I hope they continue for you.
Thanks again for a great video, as always.

Thank you. I think that using a very long mono wind on leader (20 to 30m) plus using live or fresh bait has made the difference for me.

Hey mate how come you haven’t been trolling spoon lure? I noticed your now using hardbody’s

Just giving them a try. Since I have had the usual amount of success with them, I will probably be trolling spoons next time. 🙂

By squeezing the tail together to make it appear longer are you not 'manipulating the tail' which is against the measurement rules?

Don't know. I have always measured from the nose to the longest tip of the tail. Since I am not in a competition I don't suppose it matteers all that much.
