    Sitting watching this in Derry with my partner. I had her out fishing for her first time. Now she's looking to sea fishing from the shore. Thanks for making me spend more money on fishing rods/reels and equipment, any rips on what would be the best to buy. Enjoy your fishing big man, i enjoy watching

      Hi Ricky. You are lucky enough to have the opportunity to share your past time with your partner, fantastic! As far as a recommendation for some tackle. I would say go, middle of the road! Not too expensive, not too cheap! Most of the tackle I have is from overseas, and is not available in the UK or Ireland. Also most of it is too old, and that made any more. So I don't really have an opinion! But most rods and reels will do the job these days. Glad you like it brother, tight lines 😁👌

      @@Billyfishing_watch Just had a trawl on eBay wondering if there was any Abu Suveran rods for sale. Drew a blank.
      Getting very difficult buying used rods online these days - the carriage costs seem to have gone through the roof.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  4 месяца назад +2

      @stephenwalford774 Hi, it's really not that complicated. The top hook is a pulley, and the bottom hook is a variation of three. A paternoster. Is the pulley P and the pulley D, is the bottom hook in the one down position. And the pulley X, is just a clip down Wessex, using a relay clip in the middle of the rig body so you can clip it down, just like the pulley D. So if you're still confused just research these types of rigs that I mentioned. Paternoster, one down, and Wessex! Thanks Brother 😁 👌

    If you go boatfishing in deeper water, you will soon get tired of the tusk/brosme! They will bite on everything that comes near the bottom, metal jigs, softbaits and every kind of natural baits. I have caught tusk to 11kg from a boat and 7 kg from the shore, but those are not bragging fish, the norwegian record is more than 16 kg , and there has been catches of fish up to 12 kg from the shore.

    I, for one, loves your lure-casting videos. I'm a simple freeloader that only watches your free stuff. And I'm a wealthy weegie at that.. (I'm really not, I'm a premature pensioneer in an expensive country, but I'm still eternally happy that I'm not really poor) But we usually use lures. Not because we have to, but because it's the most effective method for predators that uses sight to hunt for prey. Especially pelagic predators like coalfish, mackerell, bonito and sea-trout(shore-bound but still pelagic one could argue), not the least other species like pollock, halibut, cod, turbot, plaice that hunts visually. Some species use scent, but most fish who uses scent also uses vksion, so what's the use of bait, other than comfort or convenience+? I do love baitfishing. It's calming, relaxing, but it udually makes for boting, tedious videos. You CAN swithch it up with different lutr, different tackle, not just what you usually catches fish with, but it may give you a pleasant surprize. Often it would be disappointing, but trying new stuff is part of the excitement. For me at least...

    Do you find that in Norway the cod go off lures in the winter, and prefer only bait? This is the case in the UK from shore. Lures May to Sept, bait October to Jan.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes and no! It depends a lot on the water temperature. If the water is cold in The shallows, it's hard to get a fish on a lure. Then I’ll fish deep With baits! Lower fishing is generally harder in the winter, because of the air temperature! Much easier to stand around with your hands in your pockets, and baits on the bottom. Thanks Brother 😁👌

    Tusk/Brosme or Lubb (swedish) I call poor mans Monkfish. But its actually better than Monkfish. If you overcoock Monkfish its like chewing on rubber but Brosme stays tender but dont fall apart.
    Perfect for soup, stews, or grill on skewer. And the lobster/shellfish taste is superb!
    I actively fish for them when we go to Andörja (Ibestad) with bait on 60-80m depth. Usually it takes just a cpl of min to get dinner.

      I caught 2 spotter wolf fish from the shore on coalfish bait about 30 years ago in Norway, but the largest one was only about 10-12lb.
      I have caught more than 100 normal wolf fish on coalfish bait from the shore in Norway, but only 4 on artificial lures.

    One bloke even told us a story how to cook them
    Place fish in a wet leaf
    Wrap leaf around fish
    Then place on the fire
    Once the fish is cooked throw the fish away and eat the leaf..

      Most Norwegians in the north are obsessed by cod and almost only eat cod.
      The rest of their catch they either drop back in the sea or export.
      As a Norwegian not coming from the north of my country, that do not like to eat cod, do I very much like to eat brosme.
      I am in general not a huge fan of eating fish, but brosme is one of the few from our seas that I like to eat.
      I can fish for cod for the fun of it, but I fish for brosme for both the fun and how nice they taste.
      They are a much stronger fish for their size than cod usually is as well.
