- Ahoy Legends, This week I head down the highway for a southern adventure chasing shallow reef snapper! It only takes 1 fish for that decision to pay off!
I'm fishing with my good mate Hayden Elks at a few of his favorite local haunts using a variety of different soft baits to get the bites. As you will see, it's a deadly effective technique that's a must try for any coastal angler!
Not only that we finish the session with some awesome top water action!
Hope you enjoy the episode!

Sammy Skitzsie slaying the snappers ay
Morning from UK, awesome to kick the day off with Sammy
Great episode again Sammy, shallow stuff is the most fun.. good on you mate
What a beautiful part of the world. Thanks for showing me.
Love the banter mate absolute crack up! Cheers
"I'm currently in cant win a state of origin series" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sammy you legend.
🤣🤣🤣
Sunday arvo Sammy session. Just cracked a nice frosty. Cheers all 🍻🍻
Hell yeah! Enjoy mate 🍻🍻
Nice video mate, shallow water fishing for those big snapper looks super fun! The shallow water pearly was cool too, I definitely woundn’t complain if we caught them that shallow up here👌😂
Awesome 🔥🤙🏼
All those look super tasty
They would have been! It was their lucky day!
holy crap.....that new boat came with a working net??? shoulda bought that boat years ago Sammy.
Haha that’s not my boat! That’s why the net works 😂😂
Pearl perch is one of the best eating fish in the water i was lucky to catch one that was close to 4kg. Caught south of Sydney in 40m of water a few years back very rare catch down here.
9 inch gulp pearl white with a pink Oz or half Oz jig head... Always gets them down south. Always!!
awesome fishing
From ‘Merica, you’re a stud, keep killing it 💯
Hahah cheers mate! Appreciate the support 🙌🙌
Cheers
🍻🍻
Awfully close to the sanctuary zone there Sammy!
Was that close to giving a 👎🏻 after that “can’t win a state of origin series” comment 😠
Hahahaha love the banter Sammy. Always a like from my end legend
Coffs has always been a great area for reds, the kayak guys get some big ones with their stealthy approach.
Sammy, Sammy, Sammy! Welcome to my part of the world 🙂
I reckon i know exactly where you guys were fishing too!
Missed opportunity though, the kings have been on at the lighthouse lately, so rather than chasing tailor i would have gone up to the light for a chance at a metre plus king on topwater in 20m! IMO there's nothing better than chasing kings in skinny water, especially when theyre on like they have been recently with the current weve had
Anyway it was super cool to see you out and about in my neck of the woods, come back in summer and we'll chase blacks and Yellowfin 🙂
Ohhh bugger! Although can’t catch them all in one trip otherwise there would be no point coming back!! 🍻🍻
Hi Sammy how far south on the mid north coast region where you are both enjoying your fishing outing offshore on the coast. Join trying to find the perfect location you are both have to ball out on the waters on this coast. Kind regards John
What an episode boys!! Mid-North Coast has some amazing Shallow water reefs especially for Snapper,Mulloway and Kingies :)
I know! I can’t wait to do some more exploring down there, everything is so close!
Great session! On My home grounds I’ve spent thousands of hours on that patch of paradise! I started catching snapper on soft plastics out there in the late 90s can’t beat a pearl watermelon or nuclear chook 4-5” powerbait and as light and slow as possible often I’d run a Texas rig with a “0” size sinker when drifting in less than 40m or go as heavy as 1/2oZ and 5/0 in current and out wide
A mate of mine pickled some baker in a way it dissolves all the bone and leaves the meat good.a world class chef tasted it and rated it the best fish they’ve eaten
That’s the go! Bloody good fun!
I’d love to hear that recipe for bakers as well!!
What tail paddle?
Nice show Sammy, obviously Elksy is more interested in fishin than footy, lucky for you, cause with the comments you were makin, I know a few New South Welshmen that would have used you for bait, your lucky to have come home from that trip.
Oh mate. Posting it as soon as the season closes is just rude😂😂😂. I can't wait a month!😂
Errol from nz looking good fishing
Great vid as per normal Sammy. Question.. setting up a new vessel and wanted to do a few things that you have done. The Hook up front, you running the 3in1 off the transom? And the 1 meter straight edge, just sicker to hold it on ?
Those Taylor at 26min look like great Spanish livies or troll bait.
They certainly would have been 👌👌👌
Love the uploads...how long is your rod n what's the max length you would use for softies off the bout??👍
We catch heaps of pearlies on the sunshine coast in sub 30m on the reef.
How’s the conditions, especially early. Top viewing. Cheers
Pemandangan yg sangat indah di saat rell menjerit👍
Surprised you get any Bonnie's were you were getting the Taylor
Kompetisi yang luar biasa 😂😂😂 berbeda dengan kami yg di Indonesia agak susah berkompetisi saat musim seperti ini.. hehehe... Mantap 👍👍👍
Nice 👍
Thanks mate! 🍻🍻🍻
Neuclia chicken pink green
Haha, yeah it was a good Origin series, we got towelled in the last one but it's always hard to go 3 nil.
What an amazing session.
A lucky dip from 40 - 80cm and a crazy pearly too.
Loved the tailor session too.
Reminds me of old times in my 12' tinny in behind the wash down that way.
Speaking of memories.
We used to catch plenty of pearlies on the 36 fathom reefs at the Gold Coast 45 years ago, so maybe it's the pressure?
Hey Sammy, another great video. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for beach fishing for tailor set up. Keep it up 👍
I surely do mate! Check out the tailor tutorial video I did a while ago on my channel. I run through everything there 👌👌
@@SammyHitzkeFishing thanks mate 👍
What boots are you wearing Sammy?
Jhossss mr nice
Great vid!-First
Legendary mate! Thanks for watching 🍻🍻
Great video but let your mate know the research shows you lower the chances of Snapper surviving when you vent it. He’s more likely to kill a fish than help it survive.
Especially when venting you ram in the needle 50mm just under the skin is all that’s needed
Love watching all the fishing action down under! OK Lowestoft hasn't the same ring as the Gold Coast but we do get a few fish here too! ruclips.net/video/C0HIMW8iLu8/видео.html
They don’t call it the great southern land for no reason which you found out
The net laying in the middle of the boat is annoying the frig out of me !
Haha why? It’s there so we can grab it quickly!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing worried you’ll trip over it. Wouldn’t want to see my fav RUclips fisherman do himself a mischief!
Didn’t you watch game 3 mate
Surely did mate, Job was already done. Had to give you something otherwise you’d probably bail out next year 😉😂
@@SammyHitzkeFishing hahaha of course. Stay on your side of the border with that attitude. Ya know north coast nsw is gods country compared to ya over populated cane toad territory 😜
Where abouts are you based out of Sammy?
@@jordangrant6219 awesome, thanks bro!
@@jordangrant6219 yeah right, it looks like a nice bit of reef! You getting many nice snapper up there at this time of year? I’m on the south coast of NSW & we’re getting some pretty good shallow water snapper atm.
@@-dystopic- to be honest I haven't really fished for snapper this year, but those that have have had a great season so far
The water up here has been disturbingly warm, so I was chasing Marlin and even Yellowfin still in may, and dollies until mid June which is crazy, and now we've got an awesome run of kings round the islands so I've been mostly chasing those on jigs and liveys
Had a really awesome summer and autumn on the troll up here and many good dolly sessions, so haven't really needed to chase snapper
@@jordangrant6219 yeah we’ve had unseasonably warm water down here as well & there were black marlin & yellowfin being caught not too far off shore as recently as last month. The kings have moved on for us unfortunately, we didn’t have a really good king season this year, there were a lot of fish but most of them were just rats.
@@-dystopic- that sucks mate, last weekend I actually bagged out for the first time, we had about 20 liveys and in just over 2 hours we had 16 good kings (we miscounted) between 3 of us, all 70-90cm, we had 3 pro boats around us and were outfishing them by miles, it was awesome. Only got bricked once, otherwise almost every livey resulted in a good fish hitting the deck
We're lucky up here the king's will be around until probably early January when they start getting pushed out by pelagics, and even then they're still on some of the deeper marks
Makes SA look shit house lol. Nice. Talk about the land of plenty.
Sammy love your content, but if you have another crack at the Penrith blues I’m gonna have to unsubscribe
why are you covered up like you're going to rob a bank?
Because I have fair skin and I fish a lot. Would rather cover up then have to tell my kids I’ve got advanced melanoma and won’t be around much longer 👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing you also might fall off the boat and get eaten by a shark. who knows?
@@stereolababy I also had a waist belt PFD on, so at least i wouldn’t drown waiting for that shark too come 👌👌
@@SammyHitzkeFishing excellent
Fishing is obviously fun to you. What I do not understand why, why, why you throw so many the fish back particularly as you say they are so good to eat. The cost of fuel alone, apart from the bait (lures) you purchase and other incidentals you have to pay for, surely must give you incentive to keep your catch even if you do not eat all of it yourself. Surely you can share the catch with friends to help out the daily budget.
