I really like this product, but I would have a bit more settings. For example exception for the system volume (page file, temps, etc) , select folder option for customized volumes, and I know this is not secure, but why I cant backup an smb share what is does not request user/pass because shared for everyone. Thank you for you support!
New drinking game: drink every time a shot when he says “active backup for business”. Please have a buddy who backs you up!
Hi Synology Team,
Server address text field able to use DDNS instead of IP address?
In my version of Active Backup for Business, when creating a task, there is no option 'bare metal backup' like what is shown in the video.
In my version there is an choice for 'Entire device' and a sub-choice for 'backup external drive'? What exactly does that mean? For instance, what does 'entire device' include? And, does 'external drive' include external USB drives? Or is it only the drive(s) connected to the motherboard other than the C: drive?
Does image based Server backup support backup of MS SQL and MS Exchange?
Thanks, Chip
what i am using Synology DS218+ and DS216J, but DS216J only support Backup Data For Server. it's Backup Data for server same with Backup data for bussines?
Just been thinking what is the difference of synology Drive, Cloud sync, and ABB
What permissions does the backup folder need for users?
Blue raspberry? I thought it was called Blueberry...
Nice video for a nice program !
edit: Blue raspberry is a common flavoring for candy, snack foods, syrups, and soft drinks. The flavor ostensibly originates from Rubus leucodermis, more commonly known as the "whitebark raspberry" or "blue raspberry" for the blue-black color of its fruit.
4:35 How many no. of tasks can be added here?
DO you have powerpoint for this?
I can't find COMPLETE instructions on how to delete everything, including the device, all tasks, and all data, when a PC is taken out of service permanently, so that the data space is now available to be used by other devices. I've managed to delete everything, but the space the old device used seems to be still used.
Aye Projects To Mansions!
For some reason active backup is not in the package center, any idea why?
can i backup my VM from Proxmox ?
Did you address the prerequisite that BTRFS is required for ABB? I missed it if you did. I troubleshooted ABB for a long time before I became aware of this issue.
There really isn't a reason not to use BTRFS nowadays, so I'd consider it a moot point.
I found an issue I cannot find a workaround for. With many solutions like this, such as Windows Server Essentials, the backup server can send a WOL message to the client to take it out of sleep, then the client keeps it awake during the backup. Using this, a WOL is never sent, so I can't back up a sleeping PC in the middle of the night, and if I manually fire off the backup, the PC goes to sleep before it finishes. Synology needs to support WOL and their client needs to prevent sleep before this is what I would consider a finished product.
You should note that this isn't available for all Synology NAS devices.
Hello, I am new to the NAS/Synology world. Wanting to purchase a DS923+ to keep at my house to use as an offsite back up for my business server. Is this possible without purchasing a second NAS to keep at my business? I already have my server data at my office backed up and RAIDed at my office and don't really want to spend more money than I need to. Thank you!
Thks again & request an update to your great overview
Please add Hyper-V support, then I can say goodbye to VEEAM and invest that spend in Synology instead!
Please add Hyper-V support, I agree
Do you have a solution for active file replication?
I WANT TO ACTIVATE THE ACTIVE BACKUP FOR BUSINESS SOFTWARE AND I DON'T HAVE THE REQUEST ID
Don´t see Active Backup availiable in package center , my device is a synology DS212j ?
If it´s not supported, which versions are ?
You can find the list of supported devices here www.synology.com/en-global/dsm/packages/ActiveBackup
Quite Amazing
Does this backup Hyper-v VMs?
Please add the ability to backup to an encrypted store!
Limiting it to just VMWare when a large percentage of the industry have other Hypervisors is a bit short sighted - especially as this is targeted at SMB's who wouldn't have VMWare.
VMWare owns 80% of the market so I would hardly say that a large percentage of the market use other products. I think that Synology has made a good decision to integrate with VMWare and it helps me greatly with the SMB's that I work with.
Is it possible to backup Hyper-V virtual machines?
only as PC's - there is no integration with Hyper-V :(
Doesn't show how to logg in... which i have huge problems with...
Why it works only with BTRFS?
Because it has Copy-on-write technology.
You didn't discuss backing up the NAS to USB portable external drives.
There are videos on that as well but that was not the topic of this video.
This looks great but how the heck do I get the Active Backup for Business software installed???
@ep5 not there
Show tutorial file server backup with file type
"Stock Photo" LOL
If a PC is asleep at 3AM, can the NAS wake it up for backups?
Nope, I came here to mention that.
Not directly through Active Backup itself, but you could start a separate script through the task scheduler several minutes before the Active Backup process starts. For example ether-wake -i eth0 00:1F:16:F3:B3:BD
will this run on the ds118? I'm not seeing it listed in the package center. On version DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 4
you need an x86 CPU
I finally figured out how to connect my desktop PC to the DS1019+, and run Active Backup for Business to make regular backups. However, I have a Win 10 laptop that I want to connect to the NAS, but I can't figure out how to do that. I tried loading Active Backup for Business on it, but when I try to connect to the NAS, it makes an error and says to ask the Administrator. I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR!!!
At 4:21 into the video, it shows a screen with two PCs listed. When I go to that screen, all I see is my Desktop PC. I don't see my laptop. How do I connect the laptop to the NAS so it will show on this screen?
same problem
Uninstall software on both Windows 10 and Synology. Reboot the PC then reinstall on both. Then try it again. We have seen this issue and this usually resolves it.
You forgot the first step: how to find and connect to your pc.
I think they assume that you already have your connection to a NAS or other product already set up. Therefore a PC probably has a mapped drive or can get to the DSM program.
Active backup is totaly BAD solutuion for most cases, as also DRIVE or CLOUD app - it unable to backup individual folders. So if you want to backup Program files in DRIVE app or some data or on PC/Server - individual folder C:\some_folder or like desktop etc - there is no possible!, only bare metal or volume - very bad move Synology! :(
Hello
Cloud backup station is mor appropriate to backup folders. ;-)
@@MG-gy4fv no is terrible! colud backup is unable to backup folders like "program files, program data, appdata" - there are many database files inside or program settings - so without this options cloud backup is tottaly useless. Active backup can do "bare metal" backup under running system, so what is a problem to enable ALSO folder option to centralize multiple backup folders sources from many NAS'es (customsers nas'es) to one controlled place like active backup?
