The flood happened again. The water destroyed my dugout. I'm putting things in order.

Hello everyone, my name is Alexey, I live in Russia in the city of Yekaterinburg. My four-legged friend's name is Pyosel. To make my dog’s name clearer to you, in English it sounds something like “Doggie”
Today I came to the forest alone, it's sultry outside, so the dog stayed at home.
Unfortunately, the water filled the dugout again. I'll pump the water out again. Last time I left the pump inside the dugout, but today it's all soaked. The box absorbed the water and came apart. It is good that the pump was not damaged, because it is designed to work under water.
The iron stove has become dirty, last time I took it outside to dry. Today I wiped the oven from the dust and brought it inside. I can't connect the chimney to the stove, the fact is that the wire that supported the pipe in the hanging position has come off. I replaced the wire and connected the chimney and the stove. After I collected a bucket full of dry twigs, I lit a fire inside the oven to warm the room and evaporate the water.
I pump out the water, but it fills the bottom of the dugout again, I do not know how long it will take. It disappoints me. The longer my shelter is in the water, the worse it gets. Soon the wood will begin to mold and rot. I would like to keep this building so that I can come here in winter.
After the flood, the inside is a mess, all things are scattered. I took some of the boards outside to dry.
From time to time, the pit inside the dugout fills with water again, then I turn on the pump.
Some time ago, it rained in our region, after which the blueberries ripened. I'm going to pick and eat berries.
Today I'm going to cook food in an underground oven. To do this, I need to dig out the chimney and light a fire. I took tomatoes and cucumbers with me to make a salad. I also have potatoes with me, which I want to wrap in foil and bake on coals in an underground oven.
An hour later, I took out the potatoes and they turned out to be raw. He didn't prepare at all, it surprised me and made me laugh. Then I saw that some of the potatoes were cooked, I'm glad of that.
It's getting late. It's time to go home.
    Thanks for watching!

What a shame you got flooded again.. I thought it may be the roof then I realised as half of the cabin is underground it’s permeating from the ground up. Not sure what you can do but I’m sure you will sort it out eventually so you can use it in the better weather. I missed Pyosel but I understand why he was left at home. Take care, keep safe. ❤ Dorset, UK

I totally agree. A drainage system will defiantly stop the flooding. If not done then the dugout will just keep flooding and get worse and worse over the years and the dugout will become unrepairable and unlivable by next winter or next summer because of rot and black mold, which can be very dangerous to people. After all the work you put into the dugout, it would be sad if that happened.

Nice video, I have one suggestion for you, a sump. Dig a hole near the doorway, but away from the supporting posts about 2x the size of the pump in depth, line it with wood so the dirt does not get in, then make a hatch so you can access it without the need to rip up the floor. You could leave a power supply if you were returning soon, so, if it rained again, it would automatically pump the water out.

Alexey I have an idea that would let you keep your dugout . My idea is to raise the floor level well above the high water level mark left on the walls after the flood .
You would have to raise the roof level but you could still have a dugout . When I was a boy if our root cellar flooded we would filled the floor up above the high water mark
and raise the roof you could do the same and not lose your dugout . I enjoy all your videos and I have faith in your abilities to recover from this problem!!

Sorry your dugout flooded again. I hope with all your hard work you can get it back to normal. I would suggest taking out all of the wood floors and starting with new boards. This would help with any possile mold not seen yet. Or take the old floor outside to dry completely and then retreat with something that prevents mold. Good luck and looking forward to your next adventure. Waiting to see how your house building project is going. And of course, I miss Pyosel as well.

I am sorry this has happened to you, again. You may be below the water level. There are so many beautiful trees in that forest, may be you could build above ground. The good news is you could put in a well and have water all year.
When homes get flooded, or a lot of moisture then molds can grow. Molds love warm, darkness and moisture. They can make you very sick. Peace be with you, my brother.

Alexy, why don't you put in a drain tube, it will take some digging but would be well worth it. Get some friends to help. It would save you from doing this twice a year!! I love the dug-out, and the forest hut, and your newer build, which I hope to see more videos of. I saw your singing video, i am from the US so I didn't know what the words were, but I enjoyed watching it!!! Good luck!!!

This has always been my concern with these type of dugouts. Whether or not they would suffer flooding like this. Maybe make a sump pump system to keep the water out that's solar powered? or digging it deeper and put a lot of sand and charcoal to keep the water out of the floor? Just some ideas.

  • @ad4m1
    @ad4m1 16 дней назад

If you can keep a power source in your dugout then i would recommend making the pump permanent under the floor. You can cable tie the float switch to make it respond to lower depth water, so that if the water comes in via the water cable through the soil then the pump will automatically turn on and pump the water out and when low enough the float switch should then turn it back off again. Sadly that’s all i can think of to save your dugout.. would be a shame if you abandon it due to the water.

Once the water has found its way in you can't stop it anymore .. our Vatnik should say good bye to this place .. this dugout has no future.

Hello Alex, I wouldn't bother with it any more! Tear down the hut, burn it down or fill it in. You'll keep having the same problem if you don't do anything about it! It's a lot of work and eventually you'll have mold in there and that's not healthy. I would think carefully about whether I want to put in the time and effort to insulate the hut. Greetings Walter 👍🏻

That's why a good location is important. The old-timers would dig into a bank or hillside, well above ground water levels.

Trench the outside, build a canopy, then wash down the inside and outside with bleach r/ t mold! You are going to have mold guaranteed!
