There was not a televised post race press interview; instead I believe it was in a room set aside as a press room for questions, answers, photos, cameras. One of these days you just might realize if you THINK you saw Diana interview Tracy AFTER THIS race in particular poolside, it was not in fact an actual event, but perhaqps a figment of your imagination- are you confusing maybe the poolside interview after winning her 400 IM over Kathleen Nord of the GDR at the USS International meet, which for Tracy and all those who followed her career, was a HUGE meet defeating not just one but two GDR ladies in that race AND winning another close one in the 200 IM, and just after having a large cyst drained from under her armpit less than a week or two prior to that meet, which as you may or may not know was well before the Eastern Bloc nations announced their boycott.
@@tromboneJTS She was incredible. Should always be included in a list of top 10 best swimmers in the history of the sport. Had not only doping by the East Germans to constantly deal with, but the '80 games being boycotted by that numbskull Carter.
1:05 - "Surprise at the trials qualified third behind Caulkins and Heon..." That's not true - Polly Winde got 3rd at the US Olympic trials behind Caulkins and Heon.
He was talking about Gingras, of Canada, who qualified 3rd in the heats (he said trials, not heats, but he clearly meant heats, because the Canadian obviously wasn’t at the US trials).
@@purselmer5931 And if you listened to what he said, you would have noticed he was talking about a Canadian, whose name he mentioned (Gingras, in lane 3). He obviously meant the morning heats when he referred to her qualifying third (which is why she was in lane 3). Obviously as a Canadian Gingras couldn’t have been at the US trials.
@@purselmer5931 Your first comment was trying to correct what "he" said - in that Polly Winde got 3rd at the US trials. I correctly pointed out that when "he" said trials, he meant the heats, because he was talking about a Canadian, Gingras, who had qualified 3rd in the heats that morning. Obviously a Canadian wouldn't have been at the US trial, so his reference to trials was incorrect, and he clearly meant heats. But your inane response is to say 'but that's what he said', which is very strange given you were actually trying to correct what he said.
They had to take an ARIAL shot to show how far ahead Tracy Caulkins was in this race. She was the greatest swimmer of my generation...bar none.
Race suits were RAD in '84 😗😎
Can you upload the interview of Tracy Caulkins of the USA with Diana Nyad for the Women's 400m Individual Medley?

Tracy Caulkins winning an Olympic medal with such a huge margin. She was a force to be reckoned with.
