Tamas Daryni was a truly great swimmer - a superior competitor who was always ready to race at major competitions.
He was my idol when I was younger. Got to meet him at the 1990 Goodwill Games, and it was so hard to 'stay cool'. 😀 Nice guy.

back when false starts didn't get you DQed
Yup.... unless you caused the 3rd false start. Didn't even matter who caused the first and second ones (charged to the field). You cause the 3rd, and you were gone. East Germans used to false start on purpose to throw everyone off their game.
