    What many people don't know is that after Anthony Nesty's golden victory of 0.01 seconds over Matt Biondi on the 100 m butterfly at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he went on to dominate the 100 m butterfly in style and grandeur for almost 3 and a half years. If it were not for injuries he would have taken gold again at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics 🏊‍♂️🥇🇸🇷🤗🇸🇷🥇🏊‍♂️

      It was heartbreaking to watch as a swimmer, but as a swim coach I am maddened by Biondi's epic mistake. He had more than enough room to take another stroke instead of the long glide.

    Nesty was the only one with the discipline to stop breathing a meter or two before the flags, coupled with Biondi coasting into the wall (terrible finish). Props to Nesty.

      @mancebo7 4 года назад +3

      westnyacktwins If it still looked the same, it still looked a shame. I'm talking prínciples, not focusing on teacher's pets. The camera MUST focus first and foremost on the actual olympic champion, not on the expected olympic champion. (P.S. I was totally a Biondi's fan at the time, just for the record...)

    • @TarPatSlo
      @TarPatSlo 3 года назад +4

      Disagree - most of that minute was showing the slo-mo of the finish which was very much of interest, considering that Biondi was still leading with 10 metres left to swim. Seeing the slo-mo was what I wanted to watch as a neutral. Much more interesting than watching the winner bobbing around in the pool.

    Phelps should have watched this race before London Olympics 200fly, he would have had 4 in both 200 IM and 200 Fly if he realized this is not how you finish fly. Always always always take that extra stroke, don't glide. He learned from his mistake in Beijing 100 fly when he beat Cavic by not gliding and taking the extra stroke.

    • @swimfan752

    I'm not really sure, but I think that at the time, African-Americans must not have been too sad, with this historic victory, by Anthony Nesty over the favorite Matt Biondi, since he was the first black swimmer, in the history of the Olympics, who won a gold medal.
