@@pondersprocket2274 so I’m not sure if this is the right place to make suggestions on dramas since I don’t see a discord link anywhere on your channel and I don’t have a Twitter (which in this age might be a blessing) but until I really though about it this incident is the spoctor drama all over again but worst because it’s includes more aggressive party’s, comes from a certain modding community of a certain rhythm game of a certain creepy pasta which also has a rocky history, got alot of Twitter mobs on one person, and most jarring of all the person was proven innocent way after being cancelled, harassed, Johnny depped, and framed as groomer in a community full of those dramas, this person who’s work was thrown out the window on false allegations is know as revie, creator of EXE and former dev of the sonic.exe fnf mod. I was wondering if you could in the future if you have the time (or after you rebrand, not immediately mind you but after you’ve fully adjusted yourself ) cover this drama because the similarities to the spoctor drama and others of similar nature is shocking to say the least, when did being horny in general became a crime. P.s. I’m sorry if this too much handle and if offended you for suggesting this (I love your videos and watched the madame videos repeatedly ) and for the length.

Absolutely. I also think not having any experience with art plays a big rule. I know I got tired of being unable to afford commissions and two years ago got a tablet and starting drawing using Krita and… yeah, no, I get it. I did a secret Santa with 16 characters for a friend.

I do photography and had an old school 'friend' hit me up to shoot some headshots for him so he could advertise his DJing services. I asked his budget and he assumed I'd want to shoot it for free because the 'exposure' would be 'massive'. I was like "Exposure doesn't keep gas in my car, so that won't work."
I told him my rate was $100 (at the time, I was fresh out of HS but had been doing paid work for about 2-3yrs at that point) and he claimed that was too much to pay for 'some pics'. I asked him what he'd be willing to pay, and he said $20. I said he could get literally ONE photo for that price. Lowres, and watermarked. He agreed and gave me the $20, I set up my lights, sat him down, took exactly one frame, and that was it.
He got mad because he assumed I was gonna take a bunch of pics and he could look through them and choose which image he wanted. Like no, my good bitch, you're not about to waste an hour of my time for $20 and try to squeeze more pics out of me, which is exactly what he tried to do. He took his singular photo, poorly edited it, didn't credit me, and blocked me on fb.

After I graduated high school,I did some commissions to tide me over until I started college in the fall. They weren’t internet based, just a few of my friends and family friends. I didn’t have a problem with any of them except for my great aunt. She approached me wanting a commission for her new bedroom. I said I would do it and that I’d shave off a few dollars because she was family. She went off about how I wasn’t,”going to shave off a few dollars.” but instead do it for free, because that’s the real family discount. Mind you,I even charged my grandmother for hers, though she paid in materials instead of cash. I refused, and this woman proceeded to go to my parents, tell them how disrespectful I was and ordered them to tell me to do it for free and give her some of my money “for emotional distress”. My mom,in no certain terms, told her to piss off. In the end,she didn’t get her commission because she wouldn’t pay me.

I got ghosted about a fundraiser that I was offered to do a collab with. It was for a local animal shelter. I had just got my drawing tablet and was forced to open commissions to accept the fundraiser collab by my mom. My mom wouldn't give me the lady's name so I could contact her personally about the fundraiser so all contact went through my mom. Why? No idea. The fundraiser lady commissions me, I accepted, I do the work, I get paided $30 (half upfront). Then my mom doesn't reply back to the woman for about 1-2 weeks and when she does the lady never messages her back. My mom effectively cucked me out of a fundraiser deal, exposure, and cash. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement, however, nothing I can do about it. So I just try not to involve her directly in my art anymore. She supports me and my art. Which I appreciate but I don't want her to be that involve in my commissions ever again. It's a pain and I hate the middle man bs.

Fyi: partial payments are a thing and more freelance artists should use them as their default option.
For those who don’t know, in some fields you get paid part of the total amount owed up-front before you start the project. This is common in author-editors spheres but my mom, who’s basically a graphic design contractor, gets paid this way, too.
It does a couple things: one, it’ll keep the
“exposure freeloaders” away. If they’re not willing to pay a little up front, you don’t give them any art. Two, it gives you a bit of money to live off of while working on the piece. And three, you do still get paid for your time even if the buyer doesn’t like it/doesn’t pay you.

The worst experience I've had with dm's was from around a year ago. This person had found my discord through VR Chat (which was the first red flag, as I have never advertised my art through VR Chat) The first message just simply stated "draw my oc, I can make you rich" which was...random to say the least. After I had sent him my terms and conditions link (it was still a work in progress back then, but it still said everything he needed to know) he replied within 30 seconds saying "why such long link? trying to hack me?" I then had to explain to this (assumed 34 year old man) what "Terms and Conditions" was, and why I sent the link instead of taking 2 hours to explain everything. After an hour of me explaining everything to him anyways, he ended up finding my link tree, then my Instagram, then cussed me out because I had made pride art before, saying I was going to burn in hell for my "poor lifestyle choices."
In conclusion, I blocked him and moved on lol

Whatever job is seen as even mildly “unprofessional” (aka doesn’t operate within an office setting or apply to traditional professionalism) is just blatantly disrespected. Whether it be art, essential working, anything.
Never let anyone treat you like shit no matter how “unprofessional” it may look. You’re a person with a job and life just like everyone else, you deserve respect.

I used to have a friend, he likes to guilt trip me to drawing art for him. He always and ALWAYS comes to me for art whenever he got a fight with his mother, it's because I was his friend and relate to his mother fights but I notice an unhealthy pattern with him. No matter what, he would always comes to me, and whenever I draw something for others he comes to me practically demanding for his art.
He finally got a friend to pay me and art for him, I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE because he ALWAYS USES his pity story, And what's worse. He always says he got bought games and gadgets from his mother, the same mother HE HATES and claims to chastise him to buy art from artist like, not worth his money.
Ha. Even with a friend you adore and loves, never let yourself swept into their pity story no matter how emotional for them. I don't have the luxuries he got or ever will be.
Edit: Sorry I got emotional from this. That ex-friend attempts to gaslight me and when we break up behind the door. He claimed I was the gaslighter, eventually I just broke down remembering it. I hate that bastard and still trying my best to move on, but it really scarred.
The video just trigger me but insightful, so I shared this story.

Oh boy I had that happen as well. Always always always asking and buying me sketch books and having the drawing for literally a minute before asking for another. If I did something else, I got hounded, and if I drew for someone else--or tried to--I either got hounded again or had to turn down the other person because of the volume of demands I had already.
Then they had the audacity to use this workload to say I "never" drew for another person who waited months and that "they treasured every drawing" I did for them. It certainly didn't feel like it; the other person apologized for the ruckus later because they were goaded into it and understood the demanding one was being unreasonable.
I wish I had been asking for money back then. Either I would have gotten paid or they would have shut up and I could have figured out faster if they were just friends because they could get free art from me. Now, I only give art to friends of my own volition and usually never preplan art for them...
I stand in solidarity of how much that behavior can really fuck you up long term.
      Edit: grammar

I actually had two people commission me for work they wanted done (one was sprites in a DDLC style, another was sprites for a game the client was making). The first one would proceed to use money that was supposed to be going to me (as we had a payment plan set up) on Fiverr and said TO MY FACE "I like Fiverr because it's faster". Not realizing she's wanting me to do CUSTOM SPRITES FOR HER OC. At the end of a year, I packed up every little thing I drew to get it off my computer and went "I am not longer communicating with you. This is what you've paid for." The second one got pissed at me for reminding him to pay up on the specified day.
These two are specifically why I have to take payments up front. I was screwed out of almost TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS for both projects. This guy in the video was a specific red flag because he reminded me of my first client. I don't like these kinds of people. They need to put their money where their mouth is and not hemhaw around because they don't actually want to pay.

I had a lovely time, such an honor to be part of the premiere, and that video is amazing, I am so glad it got to see the light of day XD
I'm lucky that I haven't met a delusional person asking for art, YET, but if I could give some advice for younger artists:
Accepting requests to practice drawing more is okay, but I'd say to put limited slots because trust me, you *will* get overwhelmed if multiple people all ask at once.
However if you specifically make commissions; do not agree to draw for free under ANY circumstances. You deserve to be paid for your time.
Don't be like me where a long time ago I had both commissions and requests opened and some people started saying it was unfair that "I draw for free for some people but not for them, if I did it for others I should do it for them too" and gnagnagna. The stress of those situations are not worth it.
And remember: IT'S OKAY TO SAY NO. You have a right to refuse a request, a commission contract, etc. and if the person tries to guilt-trip you and stuff; stand your ground, they are not worth it. No is no, and it's important to learn to say it(took me so long to learn it)
Stand your ground, keep drawing and have fun.

I said this during the premiere but I’ll say it again; I would probably fall for the “Once the project gets famous I’ll pay you” trick. Probably because I put too much trust in people to realize that their just using me for their own advantage and plus I’ve never done commissions before (I’m thinking about doing them but I’m not sure how to). So kudos out to Ponder and other artists who are able to tell when someone who wants to commission them isn’t actually intending on paying them lol.

When it comes to commission work you really need to make sure who you work with will pay you, eventually I also hope to do commissions as well once I can get an art tablet and a new mouse.
If you ever follow through just please remember that exposure is not equal to pay, and that you're allowed to deny making a commission for someone for any reason all the way from they are sketchy to you just don't feel like it! I do the standard illustrations and art but I also do Vtuber Models and Live 2D rigging, which is much more time consuming and hence more expensive. (For reference Vtuber commissions can go into the thousands of dollars)
I've had a few people take advantage of my kindness but most of the time People come into my dms and ask about prices then just ghost me when I give them.
Let's get things straight, I severely undercharge for this work and I need to raise my prices so I'm properly compensated, and I still get people ghosting and telling me how 200$ is way to much for art and rig for a vtuber model (it's really, really not)
    It's kinda dumb imo

I absolutely hate when people are unwilling to pay for more expensive luxury pieces like VTuber models, especially when you realize their *goal* in obtaining the model is to *make money with it.*
Like, these models aren’t just going to be tossed into a commission folder and marveled at in private every once in a while, they’re intended to be used as a marketable asset for the streamer to capitalize on. Donations and subscriptions are obviously the largest draw. Some streamers go on to use the designs for their models for animations and videos. They can even upload the VODs and get additional back-pay from that.
Yet they’re unwilling to invest in the person whose going to create it for them in the first place?? Yuck.

Honestly with all the drama and tea videos coming out recently this video helped alot and genuinely made me laugh.
As a young artist and is actually preparing to do commission work soon this video helped me a little bit pay attention and red flags.
I don't have a story about this experience but, I'm hoping to avoid chaos like this. I think young artist definitely need this video like me. Thanks Ponder 🤗💚

23:07 - I used to do commissions on Amino and I had someone message me saying they liked my style and wanted to commission me. I accepted it and asked them to send me whatever they wanted me to draw, they sent me their oc and the agreement was that I'd send them a watermarked sketch, they'd send me payment and then I'd finish the rest of the piece. Now I have a Tim Burton, Butch Hartman, Invader Zim inspired artstyle and at the time I was mainly inspired by Tim Burton and it really showed in my work at the time. So it was a little off putting to get sent a cute fluffy uwu oc, I have no issue with these types of ocs but I made it clear I didnt do furries because i wanted to practice first and get better at them. Despite this they still wanted it, so I started the sketch and sent it to them a few minutes later. They kept asking if I could make it cuter, so I kept changing little things to make it cuter, when I sent them another version of the sketch they said they still wanted it to be cuter. Confused I asked them to send some examples, and they sent a very fluffy cutesy style-- so like Sashley or Dreamland. I didn't know h o w to tell them I couldn't do that because I mean- they came to me. Either way I apologized and told them I'd do what I could. This went on for a few days, I'd send them a sketch and they'd still want it cuter. Eventually I got tired and started working on other things, they got frustrated and asked if I could cut the price because I wasn't giving them what they wanted, despite me already heavily underpricing my work and them asking for something I couldn't do. I ended up cutting the price a bit, later I sent them a sketch and they said they loved it. Ik now that, that's kinda fishy, this whole thing was but at the time I was 14 and was too scared to say anything about it. I was just happy they liked it, the next day I basically finished the piece and sent them a screenshot of it and they didn't like it again. :') That's when I gave up and just left the conversation. I didn't get paid, and low-key got super insecure about my style after that. (Weird little detail but they kept calling me sweetheart, sweety, and darling)
This next one I was messaged by an older woman asking for NSFW, I've been messaged a good handful of times about nsfw because apparently edgy stickmen doing the nasty is hot? Idk. This was again on amino, I explained that I wasn't comfortable with drawing that kind of thing and got sent a pic of melons. I left the Amino after that. This also happened on a live stream, my commissions were closed and I wasn't taking requests, someone messaged me saying they'd pay me to draw something and sent a link, and my dumbass didn't stop to think about where that link was gonna take me. It was a video of adults doing adult things, I ended the stream and criEd.
Anyways thats a few that I have, they're nothing super big but they're definitely annoying things to happen :'D

    Sooo...
I commission people a lot, and credit them in my gallery, I've had people DM me asking to commission me to mimic Artiest X to do art they don't do.
I tell them to read the descriptions of the art in question and remind them that I do NOT draw and the art they did for me was commissioned by them and I did NOT mimic their art style, and the customer gets mad at me when I refuse to blatantly copy the art style and draw kinks and or themes the original artiest refuses to do.
My girlfriend does commissions on her free time, and for a while I got people whom she blocked tell me to make her draw their commissions, like I had any say over who she talks to or what she does.
It got annoying when people only spoke to me to have me tell my GF that they were waiting on their commission and I would push back saying "I'm not her secretary I'm her boyfriend, if you have an issue with the commission you need to talk to her not me, I have ZERO involvement in her commission process." and I'm the bad guy for saying that...
I think my fave story would be when I got some art done of Mimi from Digimon and an OC I own who was also Mimi, the funny part is Mimi from Digimon is a human girl who loves pink, the Mimi I created as an OC was based off the Viera race from Final Fantasy 12 / Tactics advanced (Think bunny girl but with long slender legs, arms and thin bodies) so anyway My Mimi has a darker skin tone than Digimon's Mimi, so when I posted both Pieces on my gallery I was accused of being raciest for having someone draw Mimi from Digimon in black face.
They also tried to shame the Artiest for drawing such a thing in my comments section, acting like they were high and mighty trying to call us out for being raciest.
    My reply to them was...
"Hey uhh... Hate to throw a wrench into your rant here, but you REALLY didn't take a look into the art did you? or the description or my Gallery? these are two different people for one, and to add insult to injury the artiest would have had a serious issue with drawing blackface on a white character mainly because shes African American herself"
Even us commissioners get these things as well.
love your art and your videos B.

I haven't had any commissions but I did do requests before that. There was someone I had left a funny comment under a post of theirs. They then messaged me. I tried my best to get to the point but they pushed friendship for hours and I finally gave in (I have a weak will). That's when they finally asked if I could draw them a thing.
    Oh boy
It started as bringing up a couple of drawings I did (symmetrical portrait paintings) and wanted that style with their character. I accepted this.
And then it changed to several characters I guess?? I don't know the requirements got really muddy at this point until i finally put my foot down and they asked me to do THREE CHARACTERS IN COMPLEX POSES that I paint SYMETRICAL PORTRAITS in.
I had already accepted and was too scared to back out. I started to paint it and had a mental breakdown because it looked HORRIBLE and I couldn't figure out how to do it.
I then asked a friend who could paint several characters and poses to help and do it for me because I was too much of a push over people pleaser who wanted to appease them.
And then they asked my friend for free art. My friend doesn't do requests. They literally insulted their art, characters, name, and I believe more but i can't remember, because of this fact.
Any way they're blocked now and no screenshots sorry. I kinda just civilly deleted everything after the block.

After a month into the project, they decided to get someone else to do the work for free and then DIDN'T TELL ME. When I asked them if I was gonna still do the commission they told me to "wait till Saturday". I'm glad I chose to stop working with them because even if I DID finish the work I don't think I would even get paid, or if I did it would be "oh I'll treat you to lunch once".

Ah the joy I felt when I saw the notif for this video LMAO I love the way you tell stories with your scripting.
In terms of commissions stories, there's one thats become a bit of a core memory for me. For context, I'm friends with many more popular artists/content creators than I am. One of those friends wanted to help me out and advertised my art and commissions on their insta stories. Some time after that I got dm'ed by somebody that introduced themselves as a fan of my more popular friend for a commission. Now that would have been fine and dandy in it of itself, my friends are more popular so it'd make sense that there'd be people that came to me through them. The thing that irked me a bit was how after we discussed commission details the person then said "Could you tell [insert friend here] that I was a good fan for commissioning you?" (Not the exact wording but it was basically that)
I've gotten used to people using me as a sort of "messenger pigeon" for my other friends especially when they were raising in popularity so I wasnt that surprised that this person said that, but it still made me a bit upset. Regardless, I was having money troubles at the time so I accepted the commission and did tell that friend just out of courtesy. It didnt really matter in the end tho cus that person bailed out on the commission right after I finished the sketch so I didnt even get paid xD
I cant say this event was the only reason for my period of feeling inferior to my friends but it was one of mANY, I dont care about it now but it did feel weird for people to treat me like their gateway to my other friends. There isnt really much a moral here except, dont let other people make you feel like you have to compare yourselves to your friends

Haha, I have several but the one that still lives rent-free in my head is when two people wanted me to draw a mural on one of their house's wall.
They basically wanted a painting of a landscape on a 6 meters long wall, something like a beach with some local vegetation, etc...
Me being someone that mainly draws dinosaurs on paper or digitally (on a decade old computer with a mouse, so this one takes a lot more time, heck, I haven't posted anything on my DeviantArt since December), it means that I would have to do a big-ass painting, learn a new medium, buy the supplies, *and they wanted me to do all of this for free*
    yaaay...
So, I refused, obviously, and then, they said something that baffled me: We are your parents, you'll do it.
So yeah, my own parents tried to screw me over while behaving like I wasn't a grown-ass, bearded, 27 years old (at the time) adult, but instead a kid that you could boss around with the flawless argument of "we're your parents". X)
The absurdity of it all still cracks me up today...

Oh man oh man, I've been doing commission's for a while now, but I've only in the recent year or so started doing it seriously. A while ago, I was messaged on Reddit, where I often advertise my services. Cool cool cool, that's awesome. They were looking for long-term inked comic pages. Not my usual, but I was interested in the idea. This guy wanted me too produce 100 pages every single month... Without any pay. For the foreseeable future. I'm a slow artist, it's something I'm working on, so to be frank I doubt I'd be able to do all that in one month, and if I could I would not be left with any time to to do actual PAID illustrations. I turned it down, they tried to convince me. According to them, they were able to rope two artists in already, specifically with promise of pay IF it blew up. Totally nuts. From what I could tell, those other two artists were likely extremely young. Over all, such an annoying interaction...

I drew at least five example pictures for him and I was getting so impatient that I said I would start charging him money if he asked for more. He said my art wasn't deserving of minimum wage and I reported him to the Discord server he advertised on.

I used to do commission work when I was younger, and although I luckily haven’t had that bad of experiences. One of my favourite stories was when I was in the Brony fandom (I was like 13-16 when this happened.) A former “friend” of mine, in quotes because they weren’t really a friend?
They would never message me unless they wanted artwork done, and would never pay me because “we’re friends”. I sadly believed that and on multiple occasions when drawing for them, they would always ask for updates every 15 minutes (yes I had it timed) and would get mad when I told them I haven’t started or didn’t respond.
Now that I stopped doing brony art, all of a sudden we never talk. Which is a good thing. While I was young and saw it as practice, I still take this as a lesson on who are friends and who aren’t.

When I got there for my interview I saw that it was out of the CEO's house and the place kinda smelled of weed. In my interview with the CEO, he said that they were going to launch their game next August and that everyone would be paid after launch via royalties. Honestly, with my professional experience now (and also hindsight), I would have just left. But, I was naiive and instead I decided to do the assignment he gave me to test my skills. I thought that it might be good 3D modeling experience at the least.
I crunched for like 2 weeks, making an environment in 3DS Max for this guy based off of the vague direction he gave me. The thing kinda sucked but I was hoping that he could maybe point me in the right direction. We set up a meeting (after waiting so long for him to get back to me) and I showed him the thing, and he seemed to like the geometry, but didn't see the gaughty textures that I had made. This whole exchange could of been an email or 30 mins, but it ballooned to 2 hours because him and the other employees got sidetracked talking about some other nonsense. I had already seen all the red flags, but this meeting was the biggest one. Like if they can't stay focused for this short feedback meeting, then is this game ever gonna get done?
With that in mind, I messaged him inquiring further about what payment will be like. He got defensive saying that I shouldn't worry about payment until my work is better (He finally saw the textures I made lmaoooo). I was pissed and ready to just cut my losses, but I decided to ask him for a meeting to ask how to improve. Once again, he took way too long to get back to me that I had just sent him an email saying that I quit. I was nice and said "I don't think I'm a good fit at the moment" but honestly I should of said that nobody, not even a student that has alot to learn- should work with you until you learn how to run a simple meeting.
Jump cut to the begining of the fall semester and I was talking to a new friend and I mentioned this whole circus. He had his own story also about how that "studio" sucked and he dipped immediately. Then then a bunch of guys nearby overheard us and all chimed in with their own stories of the "studio". They told us that one of the head instructors knew that CEO from back when they both worked at a AAA studio I think and recommend all of his students stay away from that idiot. (Sadly, I never was told this because this teacher only taught programming, and I was in the art program lol)
I don't know if that dude still advertises on the internal job board. He was still doing it around the time I graduated and a good chunk of my graduating project class complained when the school sent out an email with job postings related to our field and that bozo showed up.

I constantly get people who I barely talk to just be like "hey you still do *insert art thing here*" and me immediately being like "... yes?" And them asking for something with no detail of what they want and the ghost me when I'm like "yeah but you're gonna have to pay me"

I keep getting requests on DA by random blank accounts, saying how much they adore my art but want me to make NFTs for them. Like, no. NFTs actively hurt artists and commissioners' bank accounts; and I ain't clicking on whatever link they send my way.

I haven't had any bad experiences with commissions due to videos like these. When you're in doubt, looking on RUclips for these sorts of videos to help spot red flags can be so helpful. So thank you for this! The "worst" commission I had was regarding doing something in a style I wasn't comfortable or familiar with doing (they had already paid and changed things last minute). Alas, I should've just refunded the commission but at the same time I already had stuff done so I didn't want my effort to be wasted.
It's been a long time since I've last done commissions, but due to hearing about other people's situations I've always asked for payment upfront - that's when I start. I also ask the client to be as specific as possible if they have something in mind, such as a pose or expression. If they sketch a stickman out rough too it's amazing - if you commission people and do this, THANK YOU!

i commission artists a lot and whenever i want a really specific pose that i cant find on google images i draw a stickman ref. i even commissioned ponder once for a drawing of four ocs in a specific detailed group pose so i did just that. it works wonders to convey your point. and a useful thing ive always done is draw each stick figure in a different colour to tell the pieces of each of the characters apart especially if theyve got their arms twisted round each other weirdly
edit: i remember watching b draw my commission on stream and they said the way one oc had her arms in the stickman ref looked a lil uncomfortable so was it meant to be in that position or something else? and i just told them im not the best at anatomy but she's meant to be casually crossing one arm in the other elbow so just draw that how it would work anatomically, and the pose in the end turned out amazing due to b's skills. my point is it's probably usually okay if you cant even draw stickmen in perfectly accurate proportions, as long as you explain to the artist what it's meant to be as well as giving them the sketch. most artists can put two and two together and make it work

I'm a hobby artist so I don't do commissions. However I do do requests for my closest friends and just overall draw in my spare time, sometimes even creating art of my friends characters just because I can. Or if they create art for me (sort of like the pfp I Use now, a friend made it for me). I post my stuff online because I like to just show what I've created, no matter the quality. In the past I've had strangers ask if I take commissions and I have to tell them no. I always tell them I only draw what other people want if they're a close friend or if I really feel like it(not often so don't worry. very rare). And every single time I tell them the friends part, they immediately start getting chummy with me and some have just straight up asked "Want to be friends?" Before even getting to know me.
Fair enough to say, I just straight up tell others I don't do requests or commissions without adding the friends part anymore.

i used to do custom designs for people and I once had this one person wanting a naturally coloured cat design for a warrior cat OC.
so i gave them a form to fill in for all the stuff like what colour fur, what kind of fur, what markings and marking colours and all that. but they just said "feathertail markings" Feathertail being a character in the warriors fandom. now, if this was the MLP fandom i could just look up the character and base the markings on the cannon design. but the issue with warrior cats is. its a book not a TV show or movie. and the writers often change the design of the characters in the books and descriptions.
one example is the whole Dovewing drama. the character had official artwork of her eyes being one colour but described in the books as another colour and then even then it changed to yet another colour. so people had to keep changing the eye colours on their fanart.
so with that fact, it meant i couldn't just look up "feathertail" and look at the markings she had. because there was so many different descriptions and i didn't want to use other people's fanart to use as a reference so i said as much but they kept telling me to just use Feathertail's markings. and i kept telling them i couldn't because it was near impossible. and to please show me an image of what they want. they for some reason couldn't. and i just gave up and told them i wasn't going to accept their order and stopped responding.

I cant remember a bad commission experience ive had thats worth noting, its only been like, one friend who wanted me to draw her and her boyfriend saying shed pay me 20$ and then when i did it she ghosted me.
BUT i have had some severly irritating art trades. Back when i was 12-13 i took art trades with people all the time. Both with friends and people i didnt know. One time someone I recognized as one of my frequent commenters on my post who also liked everything i did, approched me in dms on instagram asking for an art trade. I checked their account and i liked their art. So i accepted. I went a head and sketched their character, planning to color and shade as we had agreed to do- and once i was done sketching this person tells me they are done. I checked the image and its the shittiest drawing done in 10 minutes. Not at all what their art typically looked like effort wise, and I genuinely looked at that and just gave them the sketch. Ghosted them after that. If someone isnt gonna put effort in for you, neither should you to them.
Worst thing I’ve experienced though was with a close friend. When it comes to friends of mine I become a massive people pleaser. I have issues saying no and just take whatever is given to me (i have thankfully gotten better at that but stillstruggle)
She wanted an art trade, and of course I accepted. I spent a day drawing her stolen character, and she spent maybe an hour drawing hers. First of all. She wasnt an artist. Which already is bad but.
I genuinely broke down crying cuz i was so upset seeing her drawing for me. Again i was like 12, but still. She told me “i forgot how your character looked like so i just winged it”
It didnt even look like my character. My character was blond but she had given her some weird mix of red, pink and purple. The clothing was nothing like what my character would wear and her eyes were red instead of blue.
This bitch hadnt even pulled up a reference image to look at when drawing my character. It wasnt my character she had drawn bruh. She just made up a random character and called it a day.
I still finnished my part. And i put in the effort. I feel bad for younger me cuz i just wanted my friends to like me, but I usually got taken advantage off when it came to art.
Even though they are your friends, you dont owe them anything unless they are willing to put down the effort in it themselves. Its one thing to give them a gift, but you shouldnt be expected to give your friends art just cuz they are your friends.

Can we just agree that all artist deserve to be paid for the service they are providing! Like I remember another artist having an issue with some random person trying to argue with them in lowering their commission pricing b/c they charge for less money. Like ok, if you want to price your art less you do you, but that does not mean you can them use your prices as some kinda standard for all other artist to charge for!
Another thing, I hate when people try to get free art or try to pay the artist less then what was agreed upon! Like they act like it’s such an inconvenience to them for fairly paying for a WANTED ITEM. Like, art is not a NECESSITY IT’S A LUXURY! Of course it’s going to be pricey!!! Of course artist are not going to hand over artwork for free! Of course artist are going to want to be fairly paid for their work!
Artist literally have no reason to sell themselves short! They are providing a luxury item, they are not providing an item that is legitimately needed!! Like if they want a luxury item either pay for the item immediately or if you don’t have the needed amount at the time wait and save small amounts of money till you have the amount to properly pay for the item! It will not kill you on not having a luxury item!!
    Theusheiwkfo it’s just so frustrating!

Not exactly art, but I code spreadsheets in a sort of... Weird way? Usually sheets are used for calculating taxes or bookkeeping, but I code them for a game. Raffles, trackers, pinglists, so on so forth. This means I have to do some backflips here and there to get the code to work the way I want it to.
At the time I charged for in-game currency, and my hourly rate was EXCEPTIONALLY low. A team leader approached me asking if they could hire me to make a sheet for an upcoming event, I said sure and asked what it was for and when they needed it by. It was a MASSIVE project with four different teams to sort, and 6-8 different ways to earn tickets. Fine, okay, it sounds like a fun event. Ask *again* when they need it by... In 5 days time. Well, shit, alright, usually I need a month to do proper testing, but sure. Let's make it happen. Halfway through the work on this thing, I get a message saying "It's really kind of you to *offer* to make this sheet for us, we really appreciate it!"
    Hang on a second.
"Offer? You reached out asking if you could hire me for this." "Yea but, like, volunteer hiring." What. Shut that down as quickly as I could, clarifying that I expected to be PAID for this work. They grumbled about it a bit but agreed, but asked if I could offer a discounted price. ...... Again, fine. (Not fine, actually a really bad move on my part.)
Anyways I finish this base sheet, get paid my discounted rate, and think everything's done. I was wrong. The week of the event comes up and this team leader reaches out to me again, asking if I can "run maintenance" on the sheet since "they're busy" and "can't do it" (they're active on Discord almost this entire time.) I- very stupidly mind you -agree to this. And get stuck doing maintenance not only all week, but the FOLLOWING MONTH AS WELL. AFTER BEING PRESSURED INTO MAKING FREE UPGRADES FOR THE SHEET.
After that I reached out to another team leader because they had mentioned on a community Discord that "There were some issues with the sheet" (don't ask why they didn't contact me I don't KNOW) and asked what was up. They responded saying that some of the ticket values looked "off", left me hanging for half an hour before clarifying, and then complained that none of *them* could edit the sheet. They all had editor permissions. Anyways I say I'll hand over ownership as long as I'm paid for the time I spent working on the sheet, and after being left on read for another couple hours they agree. I am still incredibly burnt out because of this whole event and don't know when I'll be able to enjoy coding again.
TL;DR: I'm a people pleaser and some people took advantage of that to get a massive 16 tab spreadsheet to use for their event and only paid after I threatened to lock them all out, essentially. Learn to set boundaries kids. And stick to them.

Now, after a year or so doing that, im astonished how horribly people handle things! Thank you for giving me the strength to understand situations:))
Edit: heres an experience of mine!
Some guy commented that a video of a duck wasn’t funny. When people (stupidly) lashed put against him, he tried to say that he was a full adult, and he gave criticism. :///////
I said that everyone here was in the wrong, and he said that he in fact, didnt. He stated an opinion under an opinion. When people harshly stated theirs, he tried to be a sly fox and change up is word very carefully. He stated an opinion, not criticism.
I think the argument is still going on, its actually funny to read.

Terrible grammar, vague yet completely outside of my style's comfort zone requests, if he wasn't so chill and so quick to pay and give tips as extra for the effort I wouldn't still be making art for him lol
He's cool, i actually learn a lot more about making art everytime he commissions me

One of the ways people get/stay rich is scamming people into working for free and/or wage theft after a while.
