Saved almost 1500$ when compared to R6 and I couldn’t be happier, I’m in love with the R, it is so much FUN to shoot with!! Honestly it has exceeded my expectations imensly!
I just bought a used eos c100 Mark ii with the sigma 18-35 f1.8 lens and the Peak Design Travel Tripod. My audio solution is a Rode videomic ntg and everything together only costed about 2300$ because the used c100 mark ii was only 1100$ and it was nearly mint condition. I’m only 14 but I have been doing wedding videography and different event shoots so I was able to pay for it all myself. I literally could not be any more happy with the c100. It is truly insane for almost the same price as the EOS RP and the built in ND filters are an awesome quality of life inclusion. And a really nice feature is that once you strip it down the c100 along with the sigma art lens is under the 3.9 pound limit of my Zhiyun Crane. The only downside to this camera is that it doesn’t shoot raw but luckily it has c-log so the dynamic range is amazing. Thanks and great vid!
I still think this is one of the most under-rated cameras of last few years. Especially at the low sale prices these days! RP with that 35mm F1.8 RF lens makes for an amazing street stills shooter.
I'd say, if you want to keep it even cheaper, an RP with some cool vintage lens for peanuts! it's really fun and will use all of what 35mm lenses are capable of, for a very affordable price.
@@michaelbell75 How does the high ISO performance compare? I have the M6 Mk II with the same sensor as the 90D. I'm curious if the RP is a decent step up in terms of ISO performance. LMAO! Yep, I've still got an Ultrasonic 28-80 kit lens from the late 80's that works just fine on my EOS RP with the Canon adapter . . . and it's faster than the new R kit lens too! 😎
Best reviews of the RP I have seen online! (I have been researching the RP for weeks now) Comprehensive and well-targeted to the camera's intended audience. Great job man!
Thanks for your Canon RP 6-month feedback. I have seen hundreds of reviews including best settings for Canon EOS RP but no one has yet covered a video that shows how to get best out of the camera with most suitable lens and other add ons or hacks to get closer to Canon EOS R6 at ideal light. For example use of Extension grip for better handling, at least two batteries for lasting whole day of shooting, fast SD card SanDisk Extreme Pro 90MB/s, the use of Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens as go to lens, set the ISO settings to within 100-6400 range given camera's limited dynamic range, use the LCD screen to take pictures, set AF setting on Servo mode and AF Method on tracking face/eye detect or one point shot. For video set the settings to FHD 24 FPS and use Canon EF 16-35 F4 IS USM L lens. Use an external microphone for better sound recording. Avoid sport and wildlife pictures/videos with this camera due to slower shutter speed and reduced AF tracking capability compared to R6/R5. The overall goal is to find the sweet spot for this camera and enhance its capability with least expense to take exceptional pictures/videos. I am sure it will be hit.
I'll add to the crowd: I pick up an RP three weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. It's a simple camera and doesn't has much bells and whistle but it's very well built, it is really small and yet very comfortable to hold. It also takes very pleasing pictures and this is real reason to get one. I own Panasonic and Olympus cameras and a Fuji X-100V but I must say that canon pictures straight out of the camera, when you don't have the time or the will to edit them one by one, it's really pleasant and, even when you actually need to process Raw, the adjustment required are minimal.
Great video! Been using mine about 2 months and am loving it. Not for everyone but this is an affordable step up for enthusiasts for sure. I was coming from a Rebel T7i so it uses the same battery which was nice. If you only have around $1000, get the adapter and you still have all your existing EF to use from day 1. If you have a bit more the RF 24-105 f/4 is great. Either way you'll be in the RF ecosystem for the future and the R6's and R5's will still be waiting at a price drop in a few years.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I used the adapter and the 16-35 f4 for about a year and it was a great solution. Thanks so much for watching man!
I am also coming from a Rebel T7. Going to buy my RP tomorrow. I'm very excited and this video helped a lot. I already knew it would be better but it is nice to see positive comments and the video about it.
@@VladimirHidalgo I think for me it was. I also jumped into the R6 relatively shortly after. I got my RP for Landscape Photography which does not need much battery power. My camera spends most time in backpack while I am hiking and searching for that composition. Therefore, it’s weeks before I have to recharge my battery. For this type of photography the battery is not an issue.
I just purchased this camera this past week end. Best Buy had it with a decent lens for $1300. Used it a few times this weekend, seems to work good for my amateur needs. :) I shoot a lot of landscape photos, and the occasional animal if I spot one. So far so good! Thanks for your info on it. Sounds like it was directed at me.
You know, I've had my canon 6d for probably six years now. Have well over 150,000 clicks on her now. I avoided even looking at what new cameras had come out the last few years because i was totally content with what i had. Then i decided that maybe it's time to look at whats out there and stumbled across the RP and man. I remember when the a7 first came out and i bought one, hated the lenses and went back to canon. This seems like it solves the issues i had with the original a7. How's the low light with it? That's the big reason i kept the 6d for as long as i have. It's super hard to beat when you're back roading it and taking night sky shots.
This is my first mirrorless camera after using Nikon DSLRs for years. And I had all the pro bodies from D3s to D850. It's truly refreshing to have full frame image quality in such a small body. I'm loving this camera the more I shoot with it!
Awesome video as always bro! This is such a overlooked camera in my opinion. Such a good quality camera. Thank you for show casing it! Awesome content man! Also love the thumbnail! 😎
Hi. What do you think about the R50 vs getting this RP? Im a beginner as well and i just want to take travel pictures, portrait, landscape, animals. Definitely nothing professional. I'd like your suggestion.
R50 is a crop sensor camera but can take aps-c and Rf mount but is crop where Rp is full frame… I would rather the Rp higher end of the two… but all about subjective to your preference.
There are many things I’d like to have (120p even in 720, programable custom modes as for pictures... both could be added in a firmware upgrade, sensor and processor are fully capable of doing so). Besides that, I love my RP.
Thank you for helping me decide on this camera! I’ve been thinking of getting the R6 or something that was a good stepping stone for the R6. I take a lot of street photography for Instagram and in the future I would like to get into more types of photography. I have watched a lot of videos looking for something to help me on this decision. This was the one to help me firm my decision on getting the RP! Thanks JHawk, keep the dope videos coming!
I just got this camera and I love how you talk just 100% Make a real world review video about the eos r and the eos rp putting side to side the image quality and video quality same lens same same settings that will be interesting
Thanks for this review - I find this type of review much more helpful than the ones that focus on technicalities. I was very tempted to pre-order the R7 but now I think I might have another look at the RP.
Thank you Mr. Hawk I just bought this camera as I wanted to learn the mirror less format as my previous camera was the cannon t5i went to a camera shop because I was looking at a 90d but the salesman was like for the same price, go mirrorless.
I bought the RP to re-learn photography and couldn't be happier with it. I bought the bundle with the 24-105 non-L lens for $1k then sold the lens for $250. I don't think I could have done better than effectively paying $750 for the brand new RP body. Native RF glass is so expensive though, so I only have the 35 1.8 for now, along with an adapted 50 1.4. I think I can learn on this setup for a long time to come before finally diving in to RF L glass.
Thats a great deal! And yes no doubt the RF glass is expensive haha. using some EF lenses is a great option for a bit before investing lots into the RF. I hope they make some more options like the 35 price range soon
First, love the content and your engagement with your viewers in the comment section. I was wondering what lens you used with the RP for the desk shot @5:45 ish
Noted! It seems like enough people are interested in that type of a video so I’m adding it to my list to do it very soon! Honestly can’t go wrong with either. Thanks for watching!
Been using mine for commercialized cinematography. It works great but have been noticing more of its shortcomings as I film and learn more about it. You can definitely make good videos or short films on it. The biggest things are: framing, composition and lighting. With those 3, you can make any video look good. Just know your cameras limitations and work around them.
Great video man! I've owned one since Nov. last year and i love it! I've looked into jumping to one of the newer cameras coming out but i think im going to stick with my trusty RP for now.. Keep up the good work!!
3/2021 UPDATE: B&H is selling the US version of the RP body for $999.00. With the RF 24-105/f4-7.1 kit lens it's $1,299.00 - but seriously, this particular RF lens does not match the overall quality of the RP camera. It makes more sense to get an EF/R adapter instead, and buy a better/faster new or used lens from the EF line. 😎
I have watched so many videos about this camera, and this is the most truthful I have seen. Sounds good. I was thinking Sony a6600 but I might end up with this one cause of the price and the full frame
I would be interested in seeing a video comparing the R to the RP. Does the RP allow you to save video settings on the mode dial C1, C2 and C3? I know some cameras only use those for photo settings.
Noted! Def a video I want to do comparing the two cameras. And from what I’ve been able to figure out you can only save photo settings for that which is a downside for me
Stellar time to post this video, I follow you on IG saw the RP on your truck bed a few days ago and I decided to check it out on RUclips, and here you are! This camera looks great coming from a T6. Looks like a good next buy for me!
Haha all part of the plan! But foreal thanks for coming by and checking it out! Means a lot, and I think it would be a perfect upgrade from what you have. Cheers!
Upgraded from a sony a6400 to the Canon RP with the 24-105L lens and don't regret it 1 bit. Only issue is how darn expensive the RF glass is. Oh and despite the RP being smaller than other full frame cameras, it's still huge compared to the a6400. But I love the image coming straight out of this camera in both video and photos!!
That’s awesome! And no doubt the RF glass is pricey, its just because they are so new. They are coming out with some better priced ones this year and hopefully some prices will drop in the next couple of years. Thank you for watching!

Aye thats great! Always a win then
I just purchased this camera this past week end. Best Buy had it with a decent lens for $1300. Used it a few times this weekend, seems to work good for my amateur needs. :) I shoot a lot of landscape photos, and the occasional animal if I spot one. So far so good! Thanks for your info on it. Sounds like it was directed at me.
Perfect! Thanks for the comment, enjoy the camera!
Nice! Yeah the RP is pretty solid in low light for sure, i bet youd love the camera coming from the 6D
This is my first mirrorless camera after using Nikon DSLRs for years. And I had all the pro bodies from D3s to D850. It's truly refreshing to have full frame image quality in such a small body. I'm loving this camera the more I shoot with it!
This will be my travel camera, I wanted a smaller and also FF, to use in-place of my 80D.
Sounds like a perfect choice to me! Thanks for watching!
I got both the lens and the camera!!! Best decision I've made
Oh yeah that’s why I like to hear! Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Awesome video as always bro! This is such a overlooked camera in my opinion. Such a good quality camera. Thank you for show casing it! Awesome content man! Also love the thumbnail! 😎
Haha thanks man! Happy with how the thumbnail came out...simple decision
Hi. What do you think about the R50 vs getting this RP?
Im a beginner as well and i just want to take travel pictures, portrait, landscape, animals. Definitely nothing professional.
I'd like your suggestion.
Sorry I’m not familiar with the R50 I’m sure there are some comparisons!
R50 is a crop sensor camera but can take aps-c and Rf mount but is crop where Rp is full frame… I would rather the Rp higher end of the two… but all about subjective to your preference.
A big big help in making my decision. Thank you! Been really debating EOS R and RP.
Glad it helped! Which are you leaning towards?
@@JHawk For my needs I'm going with the RP
It’s great! You’ll love it
There are many things I’d like to have (120p even in 720, programable custom modes as for pictures... both could be added in a firmware upgrade, sensor and processor are fully capable of doing so). Besides that, I love my RP.
Those would be amazing no doubt! But would make it pretty much the same as the R. Its still a great camera tho!
Hey that’s awesome! Sounds like you made a good choice. Will do, thanks for watching!
I just got this camera and I love how you talk just 100%
Make a real world review video about the eos r and the eos rp putting side to side the image quality and video quality same lens same same settings that will be interesting
Congrats on the new camera! And glad you enjoyed the video. And noted I think it would be fun to do a side by side comparison. Hopefully coming soon!
JHawk yayyyyy i might start a youtube channel any personal advice for me
Thank you for making this video it made feel better from getting this camera yesterday, now i cant wait to learn more about this camera.
Thanks for this review - I find this type of review much more helpful than the ones that focus on technicalities. I was very tempted to pre-order the R7 but now I think I might have another look at the RP.
do you know ifI can take picture in size 1:1 -- square??
I don’t think any camera will do that internally really
The Hasselblad X2D does 😂
Yes the Rp can natively shoot in 1.6, 1:1 , 4:3 and 16:9 can easily change those setting via the Q menu
@@MrBass89 I found it, but when I export the photo it is not 1:1🤔🫣
thank you so much! I made up my mind and got one of these for me
Congrats on the new cam! Great choice
I bought it for my vintage manual lenses due to the focus peeking, and my EF lenses, thanks for this video.
Thank you! This helped me a TON!
Nice content man. Been thinking of buying this phone. What kind of filter did you use at 6:25-6:27 ?
Aye thanks so much! It’s a great camera. I was using the polar pro variable ND, I believe it’s link the description too
Thanks man!
Thanks for the video. Great explanation. Just picked up one of these and getting to know it.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Mr. Hawk I just bought this camera as I wanted to learn the mirror less format as my previous camera was the cannon t5i went to a camera shop because I was looking at a 90d but the salesman was like for the same price, go mirrorless.
Aye no problem!
Great vid man. Keep up the quality bro
Aye thanks so much! I appreciate you watching
yo you just spit so much facts, it is too good. thank you, 100% subed
Haha thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed watching, thank you!
Awesome video bro , you have cleared some questions I had. Definitely subscribing to you.
Aye thanks so much! I appreciate it, glad it helped
Really helpful. I'm saving up for this and will be purchasing this soon. Thanks for the info! 🙂
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching
Would you recommend this camera for newborn and family photography?
Yes it would be great for that!
I think you answered some of my questions! Coming from GoPro blogging, wanting to take it up a notch. Thing I will definitely pull the trigger on this
It’d be a great step up! Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
1:56 That’s what my girl said after our first night hanging out together
Lmfao, glad it worked for you man. Gotta have a great personality!
All my girls say that
Smaller but thicker n more comfortable 🤣🤣🤣
Do you think it can be a primary camera for wedding? For starter?
Yep for sure!
Thank you for this in depth information I was really looking into getting a camera for my RUclips thank you I’ll be buying!! Great channel!!
Thanks so much!! Good luck with your channel!
I was on the fence about the RP for a while saw this video and agree completely. Bought one on Thursday with the 24-105 f4 and the grip. Thanks man
Hey that’s so awesome! Congrats on the new camera 🎉. And I appreciate you watching, cheers!
@@JHawk Subbed
Thanks so much!
Thanks
Anytime!
Great review! Thank you.
Eos rp vs 5d mark ii..........which will you recommend only for photography.
RP, a lot of new technology in it compared to the 5D mark II.
thanks very much nice review terrific
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed watching
Thank you for the video. We are upgrading from Canon 250D to the RP as a step up. Merci
It’s mid 2024, I have R6 mark 2 and i still don’t want to sell my RP, it’s so tiny and powerful. Almost pocket camera!🙂
First, love the content and your engagement with your viewers in the comment section. I was wondering what lens you used with the RP for the desk shot @5:45 ish
I think it was the 16-35! And thanks so much
Omg good video and great shots!! What is your color grade or filter?
Thank you so much! Used my JHAWK lut from my digital store, link in the description!
Great video. Love it.
Please do a EOS R vs RP.
Seriously thinking to get a RP very soon.
Noted! It seems like enough people are interested in that type of a video so I’m adding it to my list to do it very soon! Honestly can’t go wrong with either. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the info bro
No problem, thanks for checking it out!
Awesome review 🥂
Thank you! Cheers!
That’s awesome man! The RP is sick, def interested for see more about these camera for sure 👀. Thanks for watching!
JHawk anytime man! It’s nice to see a quality channel grow.
Do the compare video please.
I definitely have some comparisons plans for the future! Thanks for watching
Thats a good deal!
really helpfull video i was enjoying it :)
Glad you found it helpful!
I have watched so many videos about this camera, and this is the most truthful I have seen. Sounds good. I was thinking Sony a6600 but I might end up with this one cause of the price and the full frame
Hey thanks so much for watching! Definitely a solid camera in my opinion
JHawk that’s great to hear. Thanks!
Totally agree. I own one too and the footage from this camera is pretty crisp. Great run and gun camera. Great video bro !
Exactly! I’m with ya. And thank you, I appreciate you watching!
I would be interested in seeing a video comparing the R to the RP. Does the RP allow you to save video settings on the mode dial C1, C2 and C3? I know some cameras only use those for photo settings.
Noted! Def a video I want to do comparing the two cameras. And from what I’ve been able to figure out you can only save photo settings for that which is a downside for me
@@JHawk Is that the same on the R?
No the R allows it, I cover that in my best video settings for the EOS R video actually!
thanks man, you helped me a lot
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching
Very sensible video!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Cheers!
hey thanks for the help i am looking to get into mirror less camera and this will be good i have 5d and i want to update thanks for the help
Yeah this would be a great choice, cheers!
At 05:00 what is this falling think ? I already have my RP and i'am using her for my photography business and i love her..
Hmmm falling think? The coffee shot?
Upgraded from a sony a6400 to the Canon RP with the 24-105L lens and don't regret it 1 bit. Only issue is how darn expensive the RF glass is. Oh and despite the RP being smaller than other full frame cameras, it's still huge compared to the a6400. But I love the image coming straight out of this camera in both video and photos!!
That’s awesome! And no doubt the RF glass is pricey, its just because they are so new. They are coming out with some better priced ones this year and hopefully some prices will drop in the next couple of years. Thank you for watching!
What lens do you recommend for vlogging with it?
Something very wide, I prefer a 16-35
@@JHawk thank you!
Tryna decide between this Nd the 6d mark ii🤔
Very similar! Can’t really go wrong with either
Great video! Been shooting with the RP for almost a month now and loving it so far.
Thanks so much! Love this camera for sure. Thanks for watching!
I hope to see you create some videos out in the field soon!
Haha I need to! Need to get some help filming then 👀
@@JHawk sounds like I'm catchin' the next flight to ohio lolol
What lens were you using in the RP test footage outside?
24-70 I believe!
Quality content man, can you please suggest me some lens for EOS RP. And also can we use EF mount lens with adapter on EOS RP.
Thank you! And all depends what you use your camera for or budget. Personally the 15-35 and 24-70 are some of my favs
Do consider the RF 35 mm 1.8
Been saving up for this camera to replace my T6 that got me into taking photography.
That’s awesome! This would be the perfect step up. Thanks for watching!
I was literally in the same position! I had a T6 and just bought the RP im super excited for it to arrive. Hope you can get yours soon brother!
Great Advice! 8:52
Thank you! And I appreciate you watching!
Its not the camera. Its the creativity of the photographer.
Good Advice.
Thank you! I appreciate you checking it out
I have a eos 70d mostly just do photography would you upgrade to the RP?
I prob wouldn’t, the 70D is still great! But if you really wanted to it could be an upgrade
@@JHawk thanks I guess you just saved me 1200$
@@JHawk if you were going to step up from a 70D what would be the logical next camera?
What lens would you recommend is best for portrait?
85mm or 50mm
I agree with Jessika!
Awesome vid bro💯💯
Aye thank you so much! I appreciate you checking it out
