    Fantastic job on low light situation.

    Coming from 5D2 to the RP I have had surprisingly little to complain about. The RP allows for extremely fast content creation with mobile workflows, which seems to be a much overlooked point. It does excellent in the studio and works well for virtually anything except fast action. The small form factor comes with drawbacks on ergonomics and battery life. Mirrorless has its quirks, I mean who decided a default 2 second image review would work well inside a viewfinder? In sum, a very nice camera, the low price let me spend more on glass (replacing EF L with RF L is .. taxing), and it can even do a bit of video.

    I still have one too... terrible for sports, but the image quality is pretty good (although the sensor lacks dynamic range). Battery range is lacking. HD video (24-60p) with autofocus is excellent (for 8bit content), but not great for 4K or super slo-mo.

    I just ordered an RP this week, for a little over 600€. It hasn’t arrived yet, but it should be an open box, probably brand new camera.
    I don’t do video, and my main camera is an EOS R6. The lowest price I ever saw for the R8 is 1100€, so that’s pretty much twice the money. The cheapest EOS R are going for over 800€ at the end of their lives, and decent ones are between 900 and 1000€.
    To be fair, my only concerns are the smaller EVF and the fact that I’ll have to get different batteries for it, but the price of the RP beats everything. I also had a 6D Mark II prior to my R6, so I already know how the sensor behaves.
    If I like it, it will definitely stay. It’s cheap, lightweight, takes pictures, it’s full-frame, and uses RF lenses.

    Unfortunately, skin tones are worse (greener) with the R8 compared to the RP. It seems because RP has the older color science due to inheriting the sensor from the 5D, it avoids the green tint in skin from the newer Canon sensors.

      Fujifilm is doing amazing things right now. I personally own the X100VI and the X2H and they are amazing. I wish they made full frame cameras and Fujifilm is stupid not to release a full frame version of the X100VI given how popular that camera is. Obviously they don't have full frame lenses but they could absolutely make full frame cameras with fixed lenses pretty quickly

    • @noth606
      @noth606 2 месяца назад

      @@learningcameras I think you greatly underestimate the amount of work that goes into creating a sensor assembly, which obviously is the actual camera. It's not something you whip up in an afternoon. Canon does have viable sensor assemblies but they go into cameras sold at significantly higher prices than this, and I think what you see as an issue is a conscious decision on their part in that making a "better RP" would only cost them sales in higher priced ranges instead of poaching customers who are buying other brands.
      I've used Canon for a long time, still have a couple of Canons and a few lenses - EF things though. My latest acquisition was a Sony FX30, the winner in a race that Canon doesn't really have a horse in, not a worthy opponent really since the FX30 was 3 grand with XLR handle, memory card etc and I had lenses already.

    Can the battery be charged with a power bank only when it is switched off or is there a way to charge it while taking pictures?

    • @insertrealname
      @insertrealname 5 месяцев назад +1

      The power bank needs to support the USB-C PD ("power delivery") standard, and only works with the camera switched off. However an interesting option is to buy a dummy battery with a USB-A compatible input: this can be plugged into any high capacity power bank that provides a standard 2.5 amp output, enough to power the camera. Of course, this can get a little un-ergonomic...

      If you meaning a delay between pressing the shutter button repeatedly in single shot mode, no, I don't think there's any delay worth talking about. This camera does good still photography. I don't have much experience with video, but for informal shooting, and being careful with exposure and the right choice of Canon's "picture profile" for the color/contrast/sharpening you want, there no reason acceptable FHD video can't be prepared, it's just not a flexible solution for those who really need to create and post-process footage in a "professional" manner.

Honestly id even be cool with 720p 120 like in the original R. Other than those to things I'd never upgrade.

      4k video on the RP is definitely half assed. But I'm talking new camera prices. Obviously open box or used you can often find much better deals and maybe a small risk depending on where you buy it. It's tough to make videos like this comparing used/open box prices just because they are fluctuating and there is no guarantee you can even find one open box. I really don't think there new cameras are crippled. Canon for example has full frame 4k60 in the R6, R6II, R5, and R5II...Sony you have to spend $6k+ just to get full frame 4k60 in a hybrid camera. Sony also limits fps and only gives you 7fps tops unless you go down to uncompressed raw and doesn't give you any faster speeds in electronic shutter, unless you spend $6000+. For every feature you could argue Canon is crippling, I could give you another one on Sony to even things out. The least crippled camera brand right now is actually Nikon which is crazy

    • @Sqeezy3
      @Sqeezy3 2 месяца назад

      @@learningcameras We can agree on the Nikon thing, but 4k60 shouldnnt be used without slowing down the footage and usually you do a detail shot, where a bit of a "macro" is a bit better, but yeah, it isn't there. 10 fps for a non A9 or A1 camera isn't an issue as well. Why was 10 fps a few years ago a really fast camera and suddenly, when there is an option for 30 or 120 fps, 10 fps is unusable for sports. Faster is better, but is it really that bad. But yeah, Canon and Nikon have "cheaper" faster fps.
      All you said are real issues, you heard my opinion. Yes, Sony cameras could be better for the price, but there isn't a new Sony camera without IBIS and a small battery.
      The biggest issue i had which led me to Sony and not to Canon or Nikon is the lens selection, which is the most important thing you need for a camera.

I do think Canon is more restrictive but in the same way the iPhone 16 Pro is massively more restrictive than a Samsung S24 Ultra but the iPhone 16 pro is still just as capable at producing amazing images/video...but that's what makes them easier to use in the field so I understand the philosophy behind it even though I wish I had unlimited customization personally

    But I still won't pay $800, £800 for it, I don't care what it does, people should stop spending huge sums of money on these gadgets and force the manufacturers to bring their stupid prices down, they are not hand building them to warrant these astronomical prices.
    Let them sell these cameras to companies when they have no other choice they will bloody bring the prices down.
    Because to say $800 is cheap, no, price is subjective, if you're a millionaire or a billionaire yes, $800 is nothing, but some people have to work a whole week to make that money.
    There is always something missing with these cameras.
    As you said, they intentionally remove things, even when they bring out an upgrade, they usually remove things and have them replaced with other features, and I don't call this an upgrade, Canon is notoriously known for doing this.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  2 месяца назад

      Cameras have really not gotten more expensive over time when you factor in inflation and the amount of features new cameras pack is absolutely crazy compared to cameras 10 years ago. But the good news is phone cameras are also 10x better than they were 10 years ago so you might not NEED a dedicated photo camera like you did a decade ago so you can actually save money. But $800 for a camera that could easily last you 5 years and that can actually make you $ if you used it for photoshoots or take family memories is not a millionaire/billionaire accessory. I know plenty of people making way less than $100k that spend more than $800/year on starbucks...and the RP would last you more than a year and even years from now you could probably still sell it for $300+ so it wouldn't even be a $800 net cost.
