The thing is, a lot of the games you guys hype around were in development before the Switch was even announced. Of course the companies would want their games on the Switch, but game development is not something anyone can do overnight.
That... isn't how it works. A hat in time would be a much bigger struggle to get on the Switch even though Super Mario Odyssey is more demanding simply because of the code and engine.
Obviously I don't support the abuse of developers or anybody else for that matter but I think it's pretty weird when game developers are getting angry or annoyed when people "beg" for a Switch port. That's thousands of people asking to buy your game. Also for AHiT, that game markets itself as a "Super Mario Sunshine-esque" game so it shouldn't be surprising that people want it on the Switch.
It would get really annoying if you had to repeatedly tell people that you aren't porting a game to switch, especially if you know that the game simply won't run very well.

Gamers always want their way and they think they have the power to influence developers, which is why they say and do whatever the hell they want to them. While that sometimes may be a good thing (i.e. Battlefront II), this is a situation where it's simply irrational. The Switch is amazing! The only better console in my opinion is the N64 (because it has Perfect Dark, which is the best video game ever made!). Super Mario Odyssey (best Switch game imo), BOTW, Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario + Rabbids, etc. Plus Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi, DKC Deluxe, and a lot more. Can't wait to get mine in a month once we get tax returns!!

I don't agree with how negative people how been to Gears for Breakfast, but I have no plans to ever get this game due to personal reasons. I knew the dev behind this game back when both frequented a Mario fan games forum. He has quite a scummy past, including doxxing someone he stole work from.

It's just I'm honestly worried, the Switch's Triple A 3rd party support is dry right now. And it seems like the Switch's power it the reason why they can't come to the console/handheld. GimpyTheSpaceman it is dry lol. First off Bayonetta 1,2,and 3 are exclusives they don’t really count. Payday 2 is basically a 10 year old game that’s pretty ass(might I add). We are getting Wolf 2, we got Doom, Skyrim( which would be weird if didn’t come given its out on every platform). And steep lmao, we saw it once on the switch retail and that’s it. No word from Ubisoft. Talking about Ubisoft, we also got Mario+rabids ( which isn’t really a 3rd party although it kinda is because it was made by Ubisoft. Although other game companies have made first party Nintendo games b4). And rayman which, who cares for honestly especially for that ridiculous price? So for all the major releases we’ve gotten there’s only been payday,Wolf2, doom and Skyrim. So that’s 4 games compare that to the amount of 3rd party games the ps4 and Xbox one had in their year 1. INSANE LAG The issue is that AHiT runs in Unreal Engine 3 which the Switch doesn't have native support for, it would be a long and strenuous development cycle to get a decent port on Switch.
Not really. It's just not how it works, Odyssey and Botw were built from the ground up to be played on the console (well botw was a port, but still, the engine was made to be compatible.), and Rocket League is an entirely different game. No actual game developer would say "well this game runs on the switch, so ours should be able to!" You clearly have no idea how any of this works. The a hat in time team really wanted a switch (or at the time, wii u) release, but it wouldn't work out. They had trouble getting a dev kit for a while, and when they finally got one, it was not compatible. Porting UE3 games to the switch is no easy task, and Psyonix (Rocket League team) had lots of help from Nintendo, a much bigger budget, and they're also a bit more experienced.

I don't really care about A Hat In Time coming to Switch. I already own it on PC and I was pretty disappointed with it over all if I'm honest. However, it doesn't really make sense to me from a business standpoint to put it out on Xbox One, PS4 and PC where the "hardcore" gamers tend to hang out and prefer more realism in their games and skip the system that people buy specifically for this kind of game. I suppose it's possible that it wouldn't run well on Switch. Unbox: Newbie's Adventure runs horribly in comparison to its PC version, Max and the Curse of Brotherhood is also garbage on Switch compared to those other systems. So I can understand why from an artist/developer standpoint they might not want to see it on Switch if it means lowering the quality of the game to make it work.
Should games that have been released on other platforms but have low metacritic scores (under 50%) still come to Switch? I'm thinking about Hello Neighbor, is the developer setting themself up for failure.

I don't think it's the gimmick of portability that makes people act like this. I think what it is is that some people want the Switch to dominate completely and put the other platforms to shame. By putting any and everything possible on Switch and getting them to run well, it reduces the need for other platforms like PC, Playstation and Xbox. The fact that the Switch is becoming culturally relevant like the Wii but is powerful enough to handle something like Doom or Wolfenstein with some measure of competency has given many previously self-conscious Nintendo fans a lot of newfound confidence. So when developers refuse to bring a game that can "obviously run on Switch if they want it to" either because they don't want to or for some obscure reasons fans may not understand, it generates a feeling of hostility because some Switch fans feel like "Oh, you're just hating on the Switch and singling it out." In some cases, it's understandable to wonder why a game is coming out on something like the Vita but not the Switch, but it has started to turn into a situation where to other people, it seems like Switch fans are just entitled crybabies who arrogantly boast when they get something and turn into angry religious zealots when they don't. Personally, I don't understand all this too much. I bought my Switch for three types of games: 1.) Nintendo first party exclusives I couldn't play anywhere else. 2.) Indie and retro games that while I could easily play them on PC I think benefit from the portability of the Switch 3.) Japanese RPG's and anime games which I knew would be coming to the Switch as soon as it started to outsell the Vita. I don't need Switch to be all-in one platform that makes everything else unnecessary and I think we're living in an age of gaming where it's easier and more reasonable to have multiple platforms for different kinds of experiences. I didn't buy something like Doom on Switch cause if I was interested in that game, I'd get it on my Xbox cause that feels like an "Xbox game" to me. I already have a PC, a 3DS, a PS3 and an Xbox One, I don't need EVERYTHING to come to Switch...

I think some games can't be ported due to restrictions on coding, not enough money/staff or time. I was learning a bit of website coding, and although it's not video game coding, I noticed CSS code is so much easier, saves time and the computer runs the website faster. I wonder if the same applies to games, like PS4/Xbox/PC coding is different from Switch games coding, like Unreal engine. Might take a long time to rewrite every code or adjust it. This goes away (if not goes down significantly) when we start getting seasonal announcements of brand new games from third parties (I’m talking about brand new games that are announced along side PS4, Xbox, PC)
See there are situations like this, where the software just can't run on the console and can't be ported, and then there are situations like mega man legacy collection 2 and the dinsey saturday morning collection, where we know it can run and they just don't feel like porting it
I think a lot of games should be in Switch that can take advantage of the hardware, however I will never hate a developer for not doing so. They have a business to run and if Switch isn’t in the cards for that business, they have to do what’s best for them. Any developer that CAN put their games on Switch, WILL, simply because it’s so popular.
Hi guys, the switch is my only game console, so I don’t have a pc or Xbox/ PS4. Which means that I can only play switch games. However, even tho I may not like the fact that I can’t play these games, we should be grateful and talk about the games that are coming to switch, instead of the games that aren’t.
I think the Rocket League situation is what really got the ball rolling (no pun intended). They wanted to see if there was a demand for the game on switch and the community showed that they REALLY wanted it so it was done. Now it seems everyone thinks that's the way to get all the games they want made.

Well, with Hat in Time, they did try initially but Nintendo didn´t give them the dev kit. Their recent comment that sparked all this was just them reiterating something that they explained a long, long time ago. Which is why the response seemed quite blunt. They weren't saying "screw nintendo" or anything, they´re just restating something. I too really want the game on the system, but harassing them isn't going to make them port it. Quite the opposite.
The reason people are aggressive when it comes to this stuff is because they feel like their voices will not be heard otherwise. The internet is full of over reacting for this reason.
I think one vital point that you forgot to bring up: Portability. This is the first taste of home console quality games in a portable fashion. Portability is very important because of all the people that aren't at home all the time. Its a mix of a gimmick and something that is really revolutionary. These gamers are clamoring to be able to play all their favorite games on the go, to a point where they are getting spoiled. All this new third party support is giving them the false hope that ANYTHING can be on the switch, where that is simply not true.
I don't condone throwing hate at them however the fact that they aren't gonna bring the game over does make me kind of angry. This is like in the top 5 games I want to play so badly but now I can't. That's frustrating.
I'm surprised that a lot of Switch games are on there to begin with. Thought the specs would scare a lot of developers away from the platform but I'm glad that isn't the case at all.

I understand why A Hat In Time can't come to Switch, but I get why people are mad with the Devs. A Hat In Time is coming to PS4 and Xbox One (or is already released on those systems) and people are furious that they would take on those systems in particularly and leave the Switch out. One thing they could do is port the entire game onto a more up-to-date version of Unreal Engine that is compatible with the Switch, which is totally doable, but considering the time, money, and staff that is needed to pull this off, I can't see this becoming a reality in the near future. But hey, who knows, maybe they'll change their mind.

I think the main reason for "bring this to Switch" and then having bad sales could be the price point of the games. Take Bethesda with Skyrim. This is like the 10th release of Skyrim and it's still priced at $60. We want all of these games but the devs don't understand that they need to prove games that have been out for a decade for less than the price of a brand new AAA title.
I'm okay with not everything being on the switch. Even tho It's my current preferred way to play. But I'd also like companies to either say it upfront that, "Hey, we want or will do a switch port" or "Sorry fans, we just dont have the time nor resources to do it". Some of these developers do beat around the bush about the idea of said game. Which in turn leads gamers to speculate and create false hype. Def bummed about hat in time though. Was really hoping that it would get ported.

They've explained it numerous times over the past like 6 months. The switch doesn't work with the game. They'd have to re code the entire game in a different engine.

The only game I'm starting to get heated over is Fighterz. They baited us with "ohh idk let's see how Xenoverse does". Well, we saw how it did, so what's up?
Something may seem like it will feel right on switch but it depends on how the game is built and what sacrifices the devs will have to make to get the game ported. UE4 allows for amazing graphics, but Nintendo spent a lot of time extremely fining tuning Mario Odyssey to work well on the switch. That's a lot of time devs (especially indie devs) don't have. If Nintendo were to release a Switch centric UE4 Editor this would elevate that problem. BTW yes Nintendo can do that as UE4 source code is available on GitHub straight from Epic Games.
I hope Nintendo will go back and make a more powerful version of the switch similar to what they did with the new 3DS. I owned a Wii U for a whole generation of systems so I’m starting get bummed out with some games not making the cut. But in no way should the developers be harassed

The thing with the switch is the idea is not new, before switch was even a thing there was the razor tablet, shield tablet and portable, Those 3 had 7th gen games portable and was able to be played on the tv as well as stream pc games to them. So its no surprise everyone would like games from this gen and previous gens on switch. As for the systems power, a lot of people down sell its power the switch can do amazing things does not help that nintendo wants to be backwards with voice chat. There is no reason you need a phone vs in game chat.

As someone who loves the Switch so much, I have to agree. It's one thing to harrass a game company who're trying to do their jobs, but *justifying* it is just beyond dire.
It's just I'm honestly worried, the Switch's Triple A 3rd party support is dry right now. And it seems like the Switch's power it the reason why they can't come to the console/handheld. The best the Switch can get it indies. Let's hope by the next Direct/E3, we can get some true 3rd party support we Nintendo promised from the beginning of the year

GimpyTheSpaceman it is dry lol. First off Bayonetta 1,2,and 3 are exclusives they don’t really count. Payday 2 is basically a 10 year old game that’s pretty ass(might I add). We are getting Wolf 2, we got Doom, Skyrim( which would be weird if didn’t come given its out on every platform). And steep lmao, we saw it once on the switch retail and that’s it. No word from Ubisoft. Talking about Ubisoft, we also got Mario+rabids ( which isn’t really a 3rd party although it kinda is because it was made by Ubisoft. Although other game companies have made first party Nintendo games b4). And rayman which, who cares for honestly especially for that ridiculous price? So for all the major releases we’ve gotten there’s only been payday,Wolf2, doom and Skyrim. So that’s 4 games compare that to the amount of 3rd party games the ps4 and Xbox one had in their year 1.

INSANE LAG The issue is that AHiT runs in Unreal Engine 3 which the Switch doesn't have native support for, it would be a long and strenuous development cycle to get a decent port on Switch.

Not really. It's just not how it works, Odyssey and Botw were built from the ground up to be played on the console (well botw was a port, but still, the engine was made to be compatible.), and Rocket League is an entirely different game. No actual game developer would say "well this game runs on the switch, so ours should be able to!" You clearly have no idea how any of this works.
The a hat in time team really wanted a switch (or at the time, wii u) release, but it wouldn't work out. They had trouble getting a dev kit for a while, and when they finally got one, it was not compatible. Porting UE3 games to the switch is no easy task, and Psyonix (Rocket League team) had lots of help from Nintendo, a much bigger budget, and they're also a bit more experienced.

I don't really care about A Hat In Time coming to Switch. I already own it on PC and I was pretty disappointed with it over all if I'm honest. However, it doesn't really make sense to me from a business standpoint to put it out on Xbox One, PS4 and PC where the "hardcore" gamers tend to hang out and prefer more realism in their games and skip the system that people buy specifically for this kind of game. I suppose it's possible that it wouldn't run well on Switch. Unbox: Newbie's Adventure runs horribly in comparison to its PC version, Max and the Curse of Brotherhood is also garbage on Switch compared to those other systems. So I can understand why from an artist/developer standpoint they might not want to see it on Switch if it means lowering the quality of the game to make it work.

I don't think it's the gimmick of portability that makes people act like this. I think what it is is that some people want the Switch to dominate completely and put the other platforms to shame. By putting any and everything possible on Switch and getting them to run well, it reduces the need for other platforms like PC, Playstation and Xbox. The fact that the Switch is becoming culturally relevant like the Wii but is powerful enough to handle something like Doom or Wolfenstein with some measure of competency has given many previously self-conscious Nintendo fans a lot of newfound confidence. So when developers refuse to bring a game that can "obviously run on Switch if they want it to" either because they don't want to or for some obscure reasons fans may not understand, it generates a feeling of hostility because some Switch fans feel like "Oh, you're just hating on the Switch and singling it out." In some cases, it's understandable to wonder why a game is coming out on something like the Vita but not the Switch, but it has started to turn into a situation where to other people, it seems like Switch fans are just entitled crybabies who arrogantly boast when they get something and turn into angry religious zealots when they don't.
Personally, I don't understand all this too much. I bought my Switch for three types of games:
1.) Nintendo first party exclusives I couldn't play anywhere else.
2.) Indie and retro games that while I could easily play them on PC I think benefit from the portability of the Switch
3.) Japanese RPG's and anime games which I knew would be coming to the Switch as soon as it started to outsell the Vita.
I don't need Switch to be all-in one platform that makes everything else unnecessary and I think we're living in an age of gaming where it's easier and more reasonable to have multiple platforms for different kinds of experiences. I didn't buy something like Doom on Switch cause if I was interested in that game, I'd get it on my Xbox cause that feels like an "Xbox game" to me. I already have a PC, a 3DS, a PS3 and an Xbox One, I don't need EVERYTHING to come to Switch...

I think some games can't be ported due to restrictions on coding, not enough money/staff or time. I was learning a bit of website coding, and although it's not video game coding, I noticed CSS code is so much easier, saves time and the computer runs the website faster. I wonder if the same applies to games, like PS4/Xbox/PC coding is different from Switch games coding, like Unreal engine. Might take a long time to rewrite every code or adjust it. I think a lot of games should be in Switch that can take advantage of the hardware, however I will never hate a developer for not doing so. They have a business to run and if Switch isn’t in the cards for that business, they have to do what’s best for them. I think the Rocket League situation is what really got the ball rolling (no pun intended). They wanted to see if there was a demand for the game on switch and the community showed that they REALLY wanted it so it was done. Now it seems everyone thinks that's the way to get all the games they want made.

Well, with Hat in Time, they did try initially but Nintendo didn´t give them the dev kit. Their recent comment that sparked all this was just them reiterating something that they explained a long, long time ago. Which is why the response seemed quite blunt.
They weren't saying "screw nintendo" or anything, they´re just restating something.
I too really want the game on the system, but harassing them isn't going to make them port it. Quite the opposite.
The reason people are aggressive when it comes to this stuff is because they feel like their voices will not be heard otherwise. The internet is full of over reacting for this reason.

I love the switch, because of its portability, but I hate it's underpowered system.
I think one vital point that you forgot to bring up: Portability. This is the first taste of home console quality games in a portable fashion. Portability is very important because of all the people that aren't at home all the time. Its a mix of a gimmick and something that is really revolutionary. These gamers are clamoring to be able to play all their favorite games on the go, to a point where they are getting spoiled. All this new third party support is giving them the false hope that ANYTHING can be on the switch, where that is simply not true.
I don't condone throwing hate at them however the fact that they aren't gonna bring the game over does make me kind of angry. This is like in the top 5 games I want to play so badly but now I can't. That's frustrating.

I agree with you guys because hate is bad. Even if a game you want doesn’t come to Switch you’ll just have to say oh well. But we should all stay positive and always look on the bright side.
I understand why A Hat In Time can't come to Switch, but I get why people are mad with the Devs. A Hat In Time is coming to PS4 and Xbox One (or is already released on those systems) and people are furious that they would take on those systems in particularly and leave the Switch out. One thing they could do is port the entire game onto a more up-to-date version of Unreal Engine that is compatible with the Switch, which is totally doable, but considering the time, money, and staff that is needed to pull this off, I can't see this becoming a reality in the near future. But hey, who knows, maybe they'll change their mind.
I'm pretty sure UE4 isn't just an updated version of UE3, it's an entirely different engine.
They can still port most of the assets over, but like i said before, it takes time, money, and staff to pull this off.

i literally have no idea what the topic was about. the title says this then the actual discussion kind of goes into one thing or another so i have no idea what this is about.
I think the main reason for "bring this to Switch" and then having bad sales could be the price point of the games. Take Bethesda with Skyrim. This is like the 10th release of Skyrim and it's still priced at $60. We want all of these games but the devs don't understand that they need to prove games that have been out for a decade for less than the price of a brand new AAA title.

I'm okay with not everything being on the switch. Even tho It's my current preferred way to play. But I'd also like companies to either say it upfront that, "Hey, we want or will do a switch port" or "Sorry fans, we just dont have the time nor resources to do it". With the developer knowing the hype for A Hat in Time to come to the Switch, why couldn’t they have at least explained the reason for their decision? Their tweet was just a short, curt statement that it wasn’t coming.
They've explained it numerous times over the past like 6 months. The switch doesn't work with the game. They'd have to re code the entire game in a different engine.

Something may seem like it will feel right on switch but it depends on how the game is built and what sacrifices the devs will have to make to get the game ported. UE4 allows for amazing graphics, but Nintendo spent a lot of time extremely fining tuning Mario Odyssey to work well on the switch. That's a lot of time devs (especially indie devs) don't have. If Nintendo were to release a Switch centric UE4 Editor this would elevate that problem. BTW yes Nintendo can do that as UE4 source code is available on GitHub straight from Epic Games.
I hope Nintendo will go back and make a more powerful version of the switch similar to what they did with the new 3DS. I owned a Wii U for a whole generation of systems so I’m starting get bummed out with some games not making the cut. But in no way should the developers be harassed

The thing with the switch is the idea is not new, before switch was even a thing there was the razor tablet, shield tablet and portable, Those 3 had 7th gen games portable and was able to be played on the tv as well as stream pc games to them. So its no surprise everyone would like games from this gen and previous gens on switch. As for the systems power, a lot of people down sell its power the switch can do amazing things does not help that nintendo wants to be backwards with voice chat. There is no reason you need a phone vs in game chat.
