I’m so happy to get another part to this series the Nanos really don’t get enough credit. I just hope my iPod Nano 7th Gen can finally after 10 years get some customization.
Totally agree, this particular nano is my favorite, it's the smallest ipod that uses a wolfson dac (imo the best dac manufacturer of all ipods), and also has almost all of the blows and whistles that the ipod clasic had
Aw man... this is too cool. I have the same iPod, the same speaker, and the exact same desire!! Dude thank you so much for giving the nano the attention it deserves.
I just got an 8GB 3g iPod nano off eBay. I will not be trying this on that particular one until I’ve tried and succeeded on at least 3 other 3g iPod nano. But I cannot wait to try this myself, much respect to you sir and as soon as it is figured out how to add more flash storage whether by you, myself or someone else, I definitely plan to try that as well
Would it be possible to use your Board design, with the wireless controls, with a different iPod? An iPod Classic maybe? Or is there an easier way to achieve that?
I think it should work with any iPod that uses the same connections (I2S, UART, power) - especially the Classic since it uses the same processor so it almost certainly works the same way. No matter what, though, the soldering will still prove to be difficult.
@@TuckerOsman Sweet! I figured it should work, but always good to check. the soldering indeed is difficult, and I'm not going to attempt it right away, need to build on my micro soldering skills first. Thanks for your quick reply and for all the work and time and energy you've put into this really cool project!
I was just thinking on starting this particular project, I hate that everybody uses the audio out of the ipod when you have a perfectly clean digital communication path that you can connect to and send data directly via Bluetooth
Welp I've been beaten, by someone smarter, faster, and more effective. I was gonna use a generic Bluetooth ADC adapter, attached to a very thin custom PCB. Then have a ribbon cable flex PCB for several different HDD iPod models, so all you'd have to do is solder the flex PCB into the iPod and then solder it to the Bluetooth board. Maybe steal the flex PCB idea to make this easier to install?
Wesley suggested an interposer board between the DAC and board and break out more solderable points that way. I like your idea too. You should go for it! There's definitely room for improvement in my design.
I heard you talking about rock box I thought this was the iPod that couldn’t do that, any details that could help me with my own iPod not adding Bluetooth but rock box that would be cool
there's a working rockbox bootloader, that's what you see here. there is slow movement getting a full rockbox implementation working for this. it's basically the same as the Classic - for which there is a port - but there are several key differences (like the storage) that make a full port difficult.
@@TuckerOsman when they get a fully implemented version of rock box do you think you’ll make a video about it, in just don’t want to miss out or maybe something with the wInd3x exploit,I just got a nano 3rd gen and can find a step by step to get that working, thank you for replying
Wait... is that an iPad running on Windows? How did you do it?!! Also, great mod! I wish I had more tech skills to implement it into my own ipod nano haha
It's an iPad I used as a extra screen - there's an adapter board that goes from display port to eDP that the iPad 3/4 screens use. I think you can get them through a website called Abusemark in Japan.
I am making a custom iPod nano 3 with LED click wheel and many more modifications (surprise) i am making a video out of it who knows some day we work all together and make THE sickest iPod nano ever!!🔥🔥🔥 i send you on discord 😊 but it’s still in development 🤓
wow! honestly so much of this went over my head so, while I can't fully appreciate the skill involved, the perseverance alone was remarkable. I've wanted to bluetooth mod a second gen mini for awhile now but, with the depth of knowledge and skill required to achieve what you've done, I'm certainly leagues away from being able to come close to a result like this. ruclips.net/video/chTYV8WCwV4/видео.html - this video seems like a more approachable method, albeit with some obvious downsides compared to how well integrated your mod is but, maybe I'll give it a go. videos like these are extraordinarily impressive, it's wonderful to see what people can achieve with enough dedication.

This is awesome. You have my full respect. You’re the first person I see to mod an iPod nano
This is pointless, absurd, and a waste of time. But jaw droppingly fantastic. Subscribed, and please more of this.
Your rude

Technology and the things people can do it will never cease to amaze me. This was so cool
not only is this mod cool as hell but you've put some absolute bangers on that ipod

absolutely beautiful Video also @DankPods should see this
dankpods has already said he wouldn't mod the nano in "The iPod Nano stinks.
Still waiting for the Rockbox port for 3G Nano
This was a fun Sunday morning watch. Thanks for the enjoyment.

You can do all of that but can't replace the battery?!?!
i was about to sleep for gods sake!
Man, you're literally the first person I met who listens PUP too
I think they're totally fine!
Incredible well done. High level mod.
Amazing! This definitely deserves more views

It is a smaller version of the 5th gen blutooth ipod from Dankpods
hey this was really cool, you have a new follower!
Awesome project!
One question: whats the name of the song playing from minute 6.52? Thanks

@@TuckerOsman thankssss! :D
Big smile when Morbid Stuff came on.
Did you find the lemonade recipes?
been working with AAP stuff myself resently when making an open ipod dock
Another excellent project :D
bravo! nice work!
Can you make a simple version of the esp32 i2s to a2dp sketch? i want to try it on different i2s source not just ipod nano. Thanks! 😊
I love this video so much
Excellent work, salutes from Venezuela

Yoo! You've got an Oontz? I've stuck with the Angle 3 Ultra go so long. The battery life is perfect for the size. -w-

@@TuckerOsman Oh shoot, thank you very much!! Have a great day/nightt :)
This is amazing I feel like this would be so much easier on a classic if that's possible?
The soldering would still be a nightmare but you'd probably have the space to close the device once you did it.
Could you do the 7th gen nano
In storage expandability***
I'd find it interesting to do on something like a 5th gen classic.
So cool 😊
you did it better then dankpods
Shitty epoxy lets goooooooooo

Headphone warning for the opening! That can and shout are... painful.
I will pay for you to do this for a 5g ipod nano
super
