    To anyone struggling to get the shot on net, consider getting one more touch with the front of your car before getting the reset. It acts as a direction change towards wherever you want the ball to go

For what it’s worth, I found a new way to do a speed flip that I think I’m going to make a video on next. Been sifting through videos trying to see if anyone else has mentioned it and it might be totally new. Either way, I’m stoked about it.

    Sorry for the long comment but I just want to illustrate what this video was able to do for me. I watched this video and the newest air roll video while I was at work yesterday. I have always had nom directional air roll and could never make any progress at all with directional air roll. When I got home from work I changed my bindings and started to practice in training packs and free play for a couple hours. It was going well so I decided to goof around with flip resets. Within 30 minutes I was catching the ball on the bottom of my car 90% of the time, getting a reset 50%, resetting and hitting the ball 25% and actually scoring on net about 5% of the time. I could not believe the results after just 2 hours of real practice air rolling and the 30 minutes of goofing. Before yesterday I had never purposefully landed a flip reset in my 300 hours. I’M BLOWN AWAY!!

    Great video, I am an SSL Rocket League coach and love seeing what people have to say about Rocket League . This is getting really nit picky but one thing I notice you dont talk a lot about is when you boost into and or through the ball on the contact off the wall, as this is a huge problem area for a lot of people learning resets. Typically someone first learning them will boost through the ball getting the reset but hitting the ball too far away to make an efficient flip reset. You talk about it with momentum , but not really the reason you have that momentum AKA boosting too much. You really only need about 30 boost to get a good reset, even less if you can musty Lol (i understand that is too advanced for people learning flip resets for the first time. Therefore typically someone first learning them will boost through the ball getting the reset but hitting the ball too far away to make an efficient flip reset. You talk about it with momentum , but not really the reason you have that momentum.
    Edit: Of course if you have the car control, it wont matter to much because you can recover and still position correctly but that still makes it inefficient because you had to readjust to catch up to the ball. Rocket League is also situational so obviously in game, the time you have will also change how you approach the ball for one. I'd love to see your thoughts on situations that you should go for a reset, For example as you climb higher going for a flip reset when someone is prejumping you is just asking to get dunked especially if they have a teammate back someone is almost always going to prejump you to apply pressure and force you to use the flip.

    Man, I keep coming back to your videos over and over because they're such a good resource, and I always seem to find something new every time I watch them. I've watched this video at least half a dozen times now (admittedly, this is usually while I'm practicing in freeplay and therefore only half listening). But this time I caught what you said about boosting until the ball reaches its peak and then giving a tap of boost after you roll over to make contact on the ball. This was exactly the tip I needed to make things click. After countless hours of getting the reset but flying past the ball afterwards, or just not being able to use the reset for anything threatening, I'm FINALLY able to consistently get that reset and recover into a good position to use it. THANK YOU! You are a wonderful teacher and the way you break things down is second to none.

    I'm c2 and I've been practicing flip resets for a while. I can get the first one fine now I'm trying to get multiple or even mustys. I watched this to see if I could learn something new and tbh you talking about it as a recovery mechanic was really helpful. I changed the way I rotate based on your suggestion, after getting the flip. Another tip people might find helpful is holding the brakes when you make contact. It'll push your car back a bit which helps for getting the ball back in front of you. Cheers.

    ... Also Satisfactory tutorials would be nice. Personally, I really don't need them and is at the level where I'd be the one making those, but I really think you'd make some interesting tutorials with all of the effort you put into your videos.

    I'm D3 on the cusp of C1, so I've been starting to use the training pack and it is definitely a challenge. Instead of treating it like I have to be aerially precise and come right up to a stationary ball, I started thinking about it like the ball and cup game, where you try to fling the ball on a string into the cup. With my car being the cup, I stopped throwing the cup at the ball, hoping I'd catch it, and started putting my cup (car) in the path of the ball. It was a really simple reframing of the mechanic that helped me go from getting 1 out of 20 attempts to 1 in 5 or so. Going to keep working on this!

    Great video!
    One thing no one seems to be explaining is that how to make car looking down rotating its wheels at the same time. It's probably airroll basics but still don't remember someone talking about it. I figured out that if the front of the car is up, and you see the top of your car, you can do two rotations in serial as explained in this video. To do that faster, you need to start pressing up (which will start the front moves down) and airroll at the same time. But you can't just keep pressing up with the joystick because the cars bottom will soon be looking to right/left and the up. Instead, move your joystick at the same speed of airroll to the side you are airrolling. This way, at any moment, your joystick will be rotating the car downwards. A quick breakdown would look like this: The car is on the air in a neutral position. You pressed up, the front goes down. You pressed airroll right until the car is sideways. You press right on the joystick, the car's front goes down even further. You pressed airroll again until the bottom of the car is looking up, and now press down on the joystick, which will make front move even lower. Check the video and see how he is doing it.

    Hey! Freestyler here! I would like to add on to this amazing tutorial that having 2 directional air-rolls bound helps to make minor adjustments to your car, whether that be you over air-rolled one way or you just need to get your car into a particular position but don’t have the time to do a full 180 barrel roll. I would also like to add that if you prefer to air dribble after the reset, or go into more resets, getting a reset closer to the bottom of the ball is more ideal! Was a great video!

    I think a great thing to mention (mainly because I didn’t know this when I started learning) is to let go of drive when you’re going for a reset. Honestly, just let go of drive whenever you’re in the air. No point in spinning your wheels in the air because it won’t get you anywhere. If you’re holding drive while getting the reset, you’ll drive off of the ball in the split second that it takes to get the reset. It will make the recovery into the shot so much harder. Holding drive in the air is just an extra button to press and possibly mess you up. I highly suggest learning to do aerials without holding drive. Not sure if this will help many people, but I had this problem. I guess I just started doing aerials in silver and never let go of drive because I didn’t know any better. Flash forward to champ and I found that I was still holding drive while going for an aerial. Pointless to do, now that I think about it, but I didn’t think it was ever harmful so I never stopped doing it. But I’m so glad that I learned to aerial without it. Game changer for recovering from resets. Oh and hold powerslide when you make contact with the ball on the reset

    I would love to see you covering more of the basics as well, like shooting (which is the most basic mechanic, and yet very few know how to do it properly or even train it): as gc1 I would consider myself to be decent - but I just dont get it, how pros get 120+ kph shots out of almost every angle and situation.😐

    Prerequisites for effectively learning flip resets:
    1. Learn boost management in the ground and air.
    2. Learn and practice the different ways of rolling and air rolling (when the ball is on your right, left, behind, top, bottom, etc...)
    3. Learn the basic arial setup. I suggest watching Wayton for this.
    4. Learn and practice how to consistently do simple arials, meaning every 30 attempts you get at least 25 goals.
    5. Learn how much space is required between the car and the ball for a good flip reset.
    6. Learn and practice the controls of preparing and turning your car during the flip reset setup (not shown in this video!)
    btw I'm C1 and don't know how to get my car in the right position for a flip reset, so that is why I added this^

  • @ZUnknownFox

    a lot of high level players say "you don't need to learn flip resets until around GC2" and while yeah I could agree I think because more and more players are learning earlier and earlier on they are pretty much vital to learning. which is why I've come to this video, last season I barely made it into C1 and now after season 10 has released I am barely able to make it out of D2 mainly because of how mechanical players have gotten and feel I need to work on not only flip resets but my overall air control if I want to improve to the next rank and figured flip resets might help me do so due to what they require being more than your basic air dribble. that and it'll help me out play my opponents even more.

      @Grifflicious  Год назад

      Well, here's the thing, you don't NEED to be able to flip reset to reach GC, or even SSL for that matter. BUT, what you should do is at least train them to the point of understanding how they work, what the setup process looks like, and where are the moments of vulnerability. These are important as a defender because even if YOU can't do them, doesn't mean you don't know HOW to do them and what it takes to defend them. That to me is the true value of advanced mechanics. It's understanding what's a threat and what isn't,

    There are a bunch of cars where the ball fits in between the wheels without touching the wheels, and in my experience the front wheels need to both hit the ball with the bottom of the car. backwheels + car underside doesn't work that I can see, or at best unreliable. Good video tho and yes there are tons of stuff in specific mechanics that no one talks about which even led me to think I need to start making tutorials about the stuff no other videos talk about. Whether it's about timing or the mental game or simple stuff like don't hold throttle while aerialing etc.

    very cool video, one question i see you binding air roll left with powerslide. does that not give you issues when dashing and recovering?

    • @Grifflicious
      @Grifflicious  Год назад

      I mean, yes but I've gotten use to it and know when to apply and when to not. Plus, I'm at the point where I'm using powerslide the moment my wheels hit the ground which isn't affected by air roll at all.

      Best I can suggest is looking up the "freeplay checkpoint" plugin and see if anyone has a decent tutorial. I'm not super qualified to speak on it since I barely understand it myself lol.

    Hey, I know it's been a whole since you posted, but hoping you might answer. For the first shot: should I be fast aerialing on my way up to the height of the ball, and should I be ARL or manually air rolling to turn to position for the reset? 🙏

    He did a nice job at explaining It, but I have just one thing to add. If and when you learn to do air dribbles and flip resets, there is a much easier way to get your car facing the bottom of the ball in the air. This is simply using air roll right or left instead of directional, and turning the stick the opposite of a tornado spin. This will cause the car to turn upside down automatically and give you an easier touch on the bottom of the ball. Hope this makes sense.

      Yes! I actually learned this much latter but I intend to do a follow up explaining certain repeatable stick/DAR movements for specific mechanics.

    so now im really really struggling with something.. im noticing that in game the servers may just be laggy or idk maybe there really is a secret handicap designed to prevent the rank for having too much disparity in numbers lmao.
    but i notice a LOT of times ill get the center mass of the bottom of the car on the ball and the game doesnt give me the reset! also im really struggling with being able to transfer momentum to the ball to make it go ANYWHERE but straight down! i have about 30 hours in to training the mech (yes i know thats not enough to be proficient let alone have it mastered) but at this point it feels so inconsistent of a mechanic that its just useless to continue training it! with air dribbling i noticed that i was able to see the mistakes i was making and i could even predict the effect on the ball after about 30 hours of training them.. at 100 hours i had them mastered to the point i could even pick the ball out of the corner and air dribble them into at least the opponent shot box or just score it depending on how much boost i started with and if i had to pop it over any early wall challengers! but with resets it feels like the game decides whether or not you even get the reset on a whim and then if you get it you have to catch it again and air dribble to be able to make use of the flip unless its right in from of the net! i have yet to find any content creators who will actually sit down with me and invest time to guide me in the right direction when it comes to learning mechs or coaching of any kind but i really really wanna learn this! ive dropped from champ back to d3 trying to impliment this in game and im just not getting any where at all! i dont wanna give up but at the same time im giving away what could be easy air dribbles and ceiling touches to attempt a mechanic that is starting to feel super rigged against me! any help at all would be so so appreciated! im an open book and an empty cup! someone please lend ya boy a hand with this!

    I have one question about this tutorial. What do you mean by landing on the ball while holding your left stick either left or right turning your car on it’s x axis before during and after impact. When do you choose left or right and how do you turn your car on its x axis before during and after impact

    • @Grifflicious
      @Grifflicious  Год назад

      Basically, it means to turn your car in like a "helicopter" motion and make contact while you're spinning. When you do, it hardly disrupts that spin and allows the car to keep spinning after contact to reposition for a follow-up.

    I'm struggling with shot 2. I seem to be not reaching the ball fast enough for my air roll to make contact upside down. I should be quick airialing right? Also, I can get the flip reset off the wall, I'm just really really trying to solidify the mechanic

    One thing nobody mentions is Aerial Sensitivity. A lot of newer players have their sens down around 1.0-1.2 and this causes actions like DAR to go slower, and this makes mechanics like FR’s really hard because your car won’t rotate fast enough to quickly position for getting the FR. Players should be sure they get comfortable with higher aerial sensitivity and they will have a lot easier time making those quick transitions in the air.

    • @Grifflicious
      @Grifflicious  Год назад

      Out of curiosity, do we have research on this? No that I don't believe you but rather, this makes me curious to look into a few other things this might apply to.

    • @EChaseWright
      @EChaseWright Год назад

      @@Grifflicious just from personal experience I raised my aerial sens from like 1.1 to 1.5 and suddenly the speed of my air roll rotations was much faster and harder to control, at first, but then once I got acclimated it allowed me to perform much better in the air
