I’ve been trying to get my dad into rocket league recently and he’s currently in Bronze, so I’ve been able to see what it’s like in Bronze nowadays with my very own eyes. There’s probably as many own goals as there are regular goals. Sometimes my dad misses kickoff completely even though all he does is boost to the ball. He will also occasionally drive up to the ceiling on and start spinning out of control. He doesn’t attempt flips often, but when he does, it’s usually single jump flips. At some point, I found out that he didn’t know how to double jump. There was another time he got into a Rule 1 with a teammate. He does not know about Rule 1 but he still didn’t break it because he didn’t know how to back up. He plays as if he’s never played a video game in his life before, even though he’s beaten Elden Ring. In most competitive games I’ve seen, there was usually at least one person who went AFK or left the game for no reason. My dad actually won his first placement match because the whole team left in under a minute. I’ve seen smurfs in casual but I don’t think I’ve seen one in competitive yet. Forfeiting is not common, but it does happen. I’ve also seen a 1v1 go to a 0-0 OT, which is something that didn’t think I’d ever see. In all, Bronze is a train wreck, but it’s a beautiful train wreck.
"he plays as if hes never played a video game before" my gf has 300k points on nami, is gold in league, and is exactly like that with games like red dead and assassins creed. goes complete monkey ooga booga brain mode its so funny btw we're currently on elden ring and im stuck on magrid or wtv
I didn't expect to get emotional watching this video, but man hearing that bronze lobbies just don't forfeit at all made me smile like an idiot. I hope spinach keep enjoying the game, he's such a good kid. I also hope big daddy dove (great name) the same, 1k+ games every season is insane. Brilliant video sledge, can't wait for you to get a "Spinach's 9th Friend" in-game title.
Right? There's something wholesome and pure about that unwavering persistence. That "brave the storm" way of playing definitely ceases to exist as you rank up.
@@BrucifyMe Exactly. A lot of people commented suggesting to coach spinach to higher rank, but honestly I think we should just let him be. He's having fun with the game in his own way, so just let him be unless he said he really wants to rank up.
omg it happened the same to me. Got all emotional when Spinach started saying that he had 8 friends already, or that he really likes to make his car looks funny and stupid.
This video is SO much more wholesome than I expected it to be. I hope Spinach stays true to his game and doesn't fall in the the pit of despair when it comes to RL toxicity. "haha you're not, lyin'...that pun was unintentional, btw" has me in tears. 10/10 vid
Im also 11 but i really envy this guy, he seems so nice and positive and doesn't rage. Even though im c2 in Rocket League i really wish i had a better attitude when i lose.
Didn't know quite what to expect, but this was legitimately interesting and wholesome. It's easy to forget that some people treat RL like any other game and are just having fun figuring it all out. That said I'd gladly take Spinach over half the platinum teammates I've solo queued with any day, as he didn't bail the nanosecond you were down one goal.
the bailing when down a goal is actually so bad now, it's gotten to a point where I've had teammates vote ff on tied/winning games because they didn't like something I did, and then watched them turn the match into a 3v1, not even like they played bad, but full on joined the other team's rotation to attack our net
The frequency of how often that happens astounds me. It worries me a little too. I'm an old geezer of 57, a Gold III solo cue 3v3 player, so almost all my tm8's and opponents are kids by comparison. The level of "quit" in some of these kids scares me. Have they never fought for a comeback? Do they quit on things that matter in life as easily as they quit on a video game that doesn't matter? I hope not. As a kid I played a LOT of pickup football, hockey, baseball, basketball games. There were one or two kids in the neighborhood who would more or less quit when things got tough. To me that made the game interesting - now there was something to overcome. And if your opponent was the "quitter", you knew where to go with the next play...and you knew whom you never wanted on your team. And speaking from experience, the quitter attitude - that translates fully into real life issues later on. Want to know the secret to ranking up? Here it is. Make sure your team scores first. If you can go up 2-0, even though there is 4:30 remaining in the game, you can rest assured that at least one player wants to FF.
@@moosewhizzerdave2066 I agree with you, for me it makes me even more up for it having to make a comeback. Being down 2-0 with 4 minutes left on the clock is not the time to panic, my mindset is that there’s plenty of time.
yeah it's too bad once you get into the higher ranks it's not as fun, plat is gross you make a mistake and they are on you like your some SSL player, i'm in plat without getting sweaty cause that's my skill level naturally and if they are too i'm sure they miss. it makes me a bit tilted.
@@tedjovel1876 I played four games this afternoon. Game 1 - player bailed when we were down 2-0 with about 4 minutes left. Game 2 - player was DOA, never started, so it was a 2v3 the entire game. Game 3 - player bailed right off the bat, then returned, we won. I assume he returned because of a warning note he saw when he bailed, because his ping was fine. Game 4 - player was DOA, never started, he bailed immediately, another 2v3. I had enough at that point. I always have a season of 3v3 going with bots offline, so I played a game of that and turned off the X-Box. The bots stink, but they don't quit and they don't complain.....
Bronze is honestly so wholesome. There's a lot of really feelgood stuff on this game. I taught my nephew how to play this when he was 7 and he loved it and got better over time.
even tho its a bit silly and people on the internet dont really practice it much i really appreciate how careful and patient you were with your questions and stuff, that's some real journalistic talent, also a great video
I remember when your rank rewards were the rank you ended the season at not by unlocking reward levels. I missed out on the rising star trail thanks to losing rising star like a week before season ended.
This was incredibly wholesome. Like it made me really happy :) nothing against chasing ranks-but pure fun is so important and so hard to come buy sometimes in competitive games
I started playing RL yesterday and a friend who's got 2,000 hours in the game was coaching me through the basics. I decided to try my hand at competitive last night and in my placement matches, I played against two Bronze 1 players and he went "Holy shit I've never seen Bronze 1 before, they had to have deranked themselves or something"
This really gives you perspective. I’m over here dunking on myself for bad positioning or missing hard saves in D3. This kid is like, “I’m just trying to get a aerial goal and executions.”. Thanks for the reminder to have fun, man.
Week one OG player here, and this video really put things into perspective. It's so easy to get tilted in this game, it's usually why I quit for a week or longer at a time, but this kid personifies why we all started playing. It was just fun. We didn't skip replays, there were probably more own goals than on purposed offensive ones, and no one was quick chatting. Thanks Spinach.
The most fun I ever had in rocket league is honestly when I first got the game back in 2016. Just sitting back, chilling with a few good friends and running at the ball any chance we got. Don’t get me wrong RL is still a really enjoyable game but playing comp at GC2 level makes the game feel like a chore even in casual. Still a great game though, and an even better video Sledge 😄
The only bronze players I know are my young nephew, and my buddy's father. I feel as though bronze players likely fall under those two categories. A young player, or a 50+ year old player.
I've been playing rocket league for about 3 or 4 days now, I'm addicted to this game, I actually didn't even know there were "rankings" or anything like that, I'm really having a great time.
Gold player here. I went on like a 20 game losing streak and ended up in bronze. They do exist. It took me forever to fight my way back to gold. It's not as easy as you think it is.
I think I can picture exactly what Big Daddy Dove looks like just from his car design. Also, how did you resist telling Spinach how many exterms you had? Would've blown his mind!
I remember being bronze. I felt so helpless. I'm gc now with 4k hours. Smurfs made me want to become good enough to smurf. All my friends were d3 I thought they were so good. I'm better than all of them now. After being obsessed for 3 years I can say there is still always someone better than you.
its kind of sad getting better than everyone youve started to play with. i have a few friends and a brother who are in the diamond-champ range, i wish i wouldve just chilled out and played the game casually so i didnt surpass them by so much. having people to play with is by far the best part of this game, and i think many people overlook that
@@Rocket_Sledge seriously! I think a national geographic mock documentary would be hilarious. *calm British accent* "and here you see a young bronze in its natural habitat."
Sledge, you are the best Rocket League RUclipsr for me. I dont mean this as a spam attention seeking whatever or me saying that to every channel that they are the best, but I mean it. I have quit Rocket League (due to me being bad with many hours) and you are the only gaming RUclipsr that I watch still. I love your content and I love your videos, you clearly put a lot of effort into them! Keep up the good work, you have probably the best and most mature audience from all the Rocket League content creators! When I watch your videos I dont feel like wasting my time, but I feel like chilling and being entertained (something that I cant say about gaming as a whole). You inspired me from before I started playing rocket league till I quit the game 3 years after and you are still my favorite gaming content creator! Thank you!
Thank you! Unfortunately "most mature audience" is not a recipe for major success on this platform! But I pride myself in trying to stand out as a bit different and in my own lane. Appreciate you continuing to watch!
@@Rocket_Sledge Ye, the platform is kinda bad if you want to make actual quality content, the amount of young audience that has too much free time is wayy bigger in percentage than the mature one, therefore the people who get the most success are the ones who make videos aimed at that audience the most, that's why I barely watch gaming videos anymore. Thats also why I admire your editing style and the way you make your videos, you make them super interesting and people of all ages enjoy them!
I’m pretty much brand new to rocket league. I’ve played sideswipe, but I have exactly no skill in the real game. My brother and I join lobbies together and it’s nothing but chaos. Often times, playing with other bronze players is really fun. It brings out the best in the game, even if we know next to nothing.
The most wholesome experiences I've had in RL was back before F2P and I was still in Gold. Better players would give encouragements and helpful tips to improve my game.
I wish I could've ran into Spinach. I'm an amateur coach and would totally spend time helping him learn some of the fundamentals and see how far I could take him. Either way, you should hit him up again at 100 hours (maybe more) and see where he's at then.

I have so many great memories of my nephew growing up, getting better, learning to trade when I'm not there. It's an amazing game. Also Spinach is a beast! Awesome kid.
I started playing in November of 2021 and placed at Bronze. I think it was mostly due to not understanding the strategy and my depth perception of the ball being terrible.
I've been playing RL since the beginning and was Silver/Gold every season until a couple seasons ago. I've got something like 8k hours in. I like gaming as an old dude but I definitely drive like an old lady.
@@leonleon9294 i think the point of the joke is to do a reference to well known lines we read often in comment like "they are not SSL, i'm sure that i can beat them" by overconfident dudes who are just diamond, but of course the same line with opposite order ranks has no sense and is funny:p
When he was telling THE Rocket Sledge about exterminations, I just had to laugh. "Oh I know a bit about those." Also Rocket Sledge: Gained Respect++ for showing respect and being gracious. I don't really play anymore, but still loving your videos!
I started playing when season 5 first began. I was bronze when the season ended. Now with season 6 ending off soon, I'm a silver. It felt like I've grown and understand the game a bit more. Now with season 7, I'm hoping for gold or higher
Spend silver and gold learning the game. Just like Sledge said, new players get dumped in those ranks so you could get people with skills from plat who've deranked, or total noobs on your team. Just have fun, and learn for each game you play as you build muscle memory for what works and what doesn't.
No matter the rank, the growth mindset is the best thing to possess. Even in my currently GC2 2v2 games, my mindset is still growing my skills to equal that of SSLs. Reminding myself of this constantly helps my mental
I started playing in Season2 Free to play... after placements I was silver, but I deranged really quickly to bronze... after a whole season struggling, I reached Silver 3... in Season 3 I reached Plat 1 and now I am dia1-3... I don’t play that often and only for fun.
What the how, dude?! I started in S1 of free to play and for three whole seasons was stuck in silver. I dropped the game for six months out of an inability to escape Silver II.
@@Zel-Veraan i had that feeling too... I just watched a lot of RUclips videos and played a lot of free play... i coached a few of my friends... one got after placements gold and now hes plat, one was stuck in plat and I helped him reach champ 1... lol
@@Zel-Veraan Sometimes you need gaming background in the area, i ranked up at first to gold 3 div 4 my first season I suppose because before rocket league I used to play a ton of need for speed, so I already kinda knew how to drive a car using a controller

As a silver III who just started my grind and started off as a bronze II, I'm having fun and im hitting Platinum clips. Even though im silver, i can definitely say my teammates are trash.
Hey sledge, on my high school eSports team we had quite a few bronzes. good kids just enjoying their time playing! I know a thing or two about the rank lol
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Back when rocket league was launched we all played exactly like that for months, as no one even knew how to really do it better. But it was one of the best times i ever had in gaming. The first couple of weeks playing rocket league just trying it out. No concept of rotation, just talking to friends and discussing what would be a good way to position, just rumors around of flying, etc. This is the absolute peak of rocket league enjoyment and you cannot convince me otherwise.
I realize the higher my league the more stressful and harsh people are literally every game has someone with the mic unmuted talking about how bad our team is playing
My friends and I started playing the game in April. we got placed in silver 1, I went to bronze in just a few games. Now I'm gold 2 after two months. I have 145 hours in the game. I think I'm progressing pretty good
being brutually honest your prgession is just "fine" considering the average player places in gold and "good" progression can be seen as high plat/low diamond with 145 hours. but its also not bad progression as like the person in the video whos stuck in bronze for many seasons
There is still a large group of gamers not watching youtube videos/ being hyper aware about rank placement and skills in games, just enjoying the game for what it is. So ofcourse there are going to be some bronze dudes with many wins.

This kid's going places, don't know about silver, but certainly places
Once he learns how to double jump he'll be SSL

This was the point when I had the most fun. Everyone was excited if either team got a goal or save.
