I built my sauna last year and it was a fun project. I have a playlist with the different steps. Let me know if you have any questions about some of the challenges I ran in to. I made my own door and installed the heater and everything was custom to what seemed to look the best. I did not have too much issues with 2x4 walls being not straight. I used 1/4” strapping after the vapor barrier to mount the wall board which may have helped keep them level. Fun to watch others more experienced than me go through the process and explain their thinking. Keep up the great content. Thanks
Thanks! I’m taking a little while to figure this one out and build it… So I’ll be making videos along the way. Once it’s finished, I’ll try to put everything together in one video that hopefully will make sense and be helpful..
Great build series Jon, looking forward to it. I about fell out of my chair when you mentioned the prices for polar and especially cherry. Here in the L.A. area I pay $2.50 b/f for poplar and just about double that for cherry, rough random width and length 4/4. Being so close to the source keeps the price down some I bet, as well as not being CA. Oh, we also have a 1% lumber tax.
Jon, This may have been asked, and or may be a dumb question. What would you finish the Poplar with? Thank you for what you do brother. Enjoy the instruction and the ideas
Not at all… for the Sauna, no finish at all… that’s why I’m a little concerned about the wood being such a light color… planning to get started on that again in two weeks and I’ll go into some more details.
What about using LVL for your studs? Much more stable than softwood, and already the right size vs plywood. You may be able to get it with marine glue if required for the damp sauna area.
Building a sauna for my home is something I've been considering recently, so I'm excited to follow your build. I'm curious to see which heating element you pick and how you set it up. Do you plan on using infrared heat or another heat source?
I am so sorry, english is not my mothertounge, but i am not sure what wood species you are talking about when you say "churry". Is this cherry? Is it an accent thing? No disrespect, just curious. Thanks and good work.
Jon, I’m assuming this is for an outside sauna, correct? I have room in my master bath for one after I take out our “garden tub” that we have only used once. Never understood why anyone would want a 300+ tub in their bathroom. Would you build this any different if it were for indoor use?
Larch is one of the best woods for a sauna interior. It is beautiful, smells nice, and is durable.
I'm not building a sauna in my house, but I still love watching this series.....as always! DD
Really enjoy you sharing the thought process not to mention everything else...good stuff.
Thank you David

Thanks I’ll check it out
Thanks for all the tips, Jon! Looking forward to the project! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! Will do!
Great video, can't wait for the rest of this series. Thanks for the referral to TodaysCraftsmen, just subscribed.
This is a project I would love take on for my house. Thank you for tackling this one! Great video.

Love the idea of using poplar, this is something I'd like to do in my shop.
Now that is going to be a great project Jon. Looking forward to the build! 👍👍🔨🔨
Thanks Steve!
I'm getting ready to do some shiplap for a friend's house next weekend. Timing couldnt have been better.

Hi. Are you still building a sauna? You are a trusted source for me and I'd consider building one if you put up plans.
Great video, Jon. Thumbs up. Maybe you can do a video from the sauna one day.....maybe not. Ha ha. Thumbs up.
Thanks Chuck!
As a bonus, the hold down acts like a blade guard. I assume you're going for no gap at the joint between boards.

Jon really cool video you make everything look easy but I think this one isn't so difficult for a novice like me. Thanks for all the tips....🤘🤘🤘

Maybe, right now I’m thinking 24 mil Baltic Birch about 1” thick

Nice beefy F clamps. Where did you get them? Also, kudos on demonstrating proper use of PPE and creating a quality no-nonsense video.
Thanks! It’s one of my originals I bought for my first shop
Do the ends need to be lapped?
No not in this case
Where did you get the wood? Monteath?
Louis Lumber in Pennsylvania
Do you have a design already? I'm planning to build one this summer inspired by the "Out of the Valley" sauna offerings.
Not yet taking a little time with this project may take a few weeks
Little typo in the thumbnail eh
You fixed it!

No problem, this is poplar wood… thanks for watching 👍
And yes at 08:45 he means cherry although I'll admit it does sound like churry

@@thesplinteredfinger actually I’m building this to go into the basement… I may want to move it at some point so I’m designing it as a kit.
