Jon, it is always a pleasure to watch you work. No theatrics, just the calm capable application of artistic and woodworking skills. You make it look easy, but I would never try drawing lines and curves by hand like that.

This is the video I needed. I've been wanting to build one for my 15 month old daughter. The face frame and decorative molding was the idea I had but still debating on the leg idea or just go with bottom side rails. Nothing better than building something like this for your own child instead of the cheap ones from the store. Thanks again!

Jon makes it look so simple. I wish all wood worker teachers would teach so clear and concise! Directions like this are an inspiration. Maybe, I can do this too! It may take me a month and my lines my not be perfect, but now it's possible. Thanks

I've officially watched this video over 50 times. Though I already built a blanket chest based on your design, I did make modifications to make it mine, or a little different. I bet if everyone that built a blanket chest based on your design emailed you a pic for your website, you would see many beautiful variations. Probably many thousand pictures. That is cool. Still, we all did it because of you. Thanks Jon Peters! You are a woodworking artist

I spent a long time trying to find the right project to make for my daughter (who is going to be born in about week). I consider myself an extreme novice when it comes to woodworking, but I thought I'd give this a try. I took my time and followed the instructions closely and it came out wonderfully. I didn't have a couple of the tools (e.g., Kreg Jig) so I improvised a little bit which worked out pretty well, and I just don't have the skills to curve the bottoms of the legs so I left them straight. It lacks a bit of the precision that Mr. Peters demonstrates in the video but I'm very proud of it none-the-less. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful design and easy to understand instructions! Regards. JP

Hi JP. I hope you don't mind me asking but what is the dimensions of the base cap molding that you used? The ones around here are around 1 3/8" wide and it looks on the video that the one he uses is smaller.

Jon, I made this chest and although it turned out good it was a challenge for me but in a good way. You challenged me to be a better woodworker and I thank you for that. The chest is for my new granddaughter and I needed to attach safety hinges to the lid. This proved to be a task that was beyond my ability and I made several mistakes. The lid was just too heavy for most hinges. If there is another one out there that you know maybe it could help someone else. What I eventually wound up doing was taking the hinge support piece of and replacing it with a 3/4 piece using Rockler torsion hinges. This worked great and doesn't look bad either. I know she will enjoy it for years to come.
