Girls Frontline 1 veteran here, while people will call GFL2 gooner game in the first days, just as the first one back in 2017 global release cause really revealing skins for characters, and still does until this very since GFL1 isn't over yet, i want to point out this, the best part of the game is the story, characters, world-building and the atmosphere, in fact, many times they use these "gooners" aspects to grab the player and make them suffer a lot, veteran SKK can speak about how Singularity destroyed, or the absolute insanity of Polarized Light or the up-coming Franfurkt battle that's just SKK fighting against hot cyborg women leaded by the anti-christ himself. The current story is just the tip of the ice, and you will find the phrase "The Shinny Beacon of the New World" more a curse than a light of hope. Welcome all new SKK playing GFL2, you're going to a new hell soon.
i do want to add a bit on standard banner. in CN, you can choose a 50% rate up of any 5* (unit or weapon) which is quite good. most probably will come in a few months
Sunborn patented the stocking rendering mechanism for this game lol They know their playerbase very, very well and embrace it, which you can think of what you want, but it's definitely respectable and nice to see that they are in touch with the ones they are developing this game for, but this doesn't mean that GFL1 playerbase is a bunch of gooners - no, generally they are pretty dedicated strategy game players who enjoy eye candy in their depressing strategy game where dolls actually have personality and story. That's why I wouldn't compare it to Snowbreak too much, because Snowbreak I do consider nothing but a gooner game with a bit of shooter built in - the story is rather shallow, everyone is just there to (literally) fck the player, and there is nothing to keep you engaged otherwise. GFL2 is a strategy game first, and the eye candy is a cherry on top because Mica knows that a balance of those two is what we love to see. I have the feeling you have not played very far, because you said the gameplay is fairly easy or simple. It gets pretty difficult (given you don't overlevel, but that's the case for any gacha). You actually need to consider your team builds and strategy when going about the stages. I spend 20-30 minutes on some of them, retrying them over and over again, having a go differently until I find a way to beat it with the team(s) I have. Some content spoilers from CN: We are getting a customisable Elmo (the "base" in GFL2) where you can walk around in, a roguelike mode where you can use your dolls at V3, and the standard banner is getting a selective rate up system where you can choose one of the dolls. The signature guns are not needed on most or any of the units. None of the limited ones are added to the standard banner though, but reruns are very frequent, compared to, e.g., mihoyo games.
Just to make sure here, since i didn't play on cn server, but is the rerun banner comes and go like NC does? Since i noticed many similar features to Neural Cloud
@@kaka09876543210 That's proving my point, no? The banners rerun frequently instead of constantly pushing new stuff people will miss and have to wait a year or so to get again.
While the dormitory is definitely Gooner baity, I don't think the Dolls default outfits are all that much, most dolls are fairly covered and normally dressed. The skins on the other hand, I'd say can be gooner bait, but that's fine really. I love Tactical strategy games and the outrageous power creeping drove me out of FEH so, I'm really happy to have a new one to go to. Also, while the dormitory does not have different animation depending on where you touch the doll, the Refitting Room does (the game is not beating the allegation I'm trying to defend against, I feel like)
@Cr3zant and they're both fully clothed. Ok, it's skintight suits, but Nemesis cape kinda hides it and it's like two characters in the game. Most characters is still most characters, regardless of their implication in the story
@@Cr3zant Keyword = "most" That's 2 dolls you're naming and to be fair, their outfits are fine because snipers and blade users want light armor for more mobility. SI is a general 60% damage reduction that, if above 0, allows you to benefit from an additional, directionally dependent 20% cover DR. If you are flanked but your SI is above 0, you recieve 60% less damage - unless you get SI broken / Exposed, in which case you take full damage and don't benefit from cover anymore either.
Kinda surprised there was no discussion about event currency being hard limited per day while also locking farming nodes behind fully completing the event story. With the way the math works out, if you don't get the farming nodes by day 3 then you're completely locked out of completing the shop since you only get 3 runs per day and it's hard capped at holding only 6.
indeed, I'll have to skip out on some of the farmable mats since I was a couple days behind. Still, a maxed out decent character and her weapon (plus a lot of pulls) is already more than I'd get from a Genshin or HSR event. I can't complain. Also the 'Creepy Doll' was a great and interesting boss fight.
Truthfully I really hate the fact they hardcapped it as I don't realize at first that the way you got currency is from the hard mode so wasted 2-3 days not doing it

Also on the level up animation it includes the weapon attachments you have equiped on their weapons. It was funny seeing them use a heavily rusted scope on a nice brand new weapon.
@@DJVoxel "Limit Breaks" in most games refer to level limit increases while Ascensions refers more to non-level based performance enhancements. Since weapons have their own max level that can't currently be limit broken, Calibration is more an Ascension/Potential Unlock.
@@ultimatecalibur Except that within the video itself, Pseychie uses the opposite terminology when referring to character level limit increases at 4:10, and to using dupes on characters and weapons as limit breaks at 4:49. You may disagree with the terminology used, but your original comment is referring to something that is addressed in the video itself just under different terminology. Under the terminology used in the video only characters have Ascension mechanics, while both Characters and Weapons have Limit Breaks In addition the term Ascension being used to describe a level cap increase is coming straight from Genshin Impact, a game that the vast majority of Psychie's target audience is probably already familiar with.
If you compare it to genshin (yeah I know real original there), calibrate is more like refinement so there not being an ascension (which in other game require mat) is a welcome one
Besides the 180 Stamina cap the Dispatch mechanic actually hides a Stamina overflow system. In the beginning it converts Stamina to reserve Stamina at a low efficiency 4:1 but at Dispatch lvl 12, it eventual reserves stamina at 1:1 at a relatively high reserve cap.
The comparisons to Snowbreak feels like an insult, kind of. Specially having seen how its fans behave towards GFL fans. The main appeal of these games is the story, the cute and hot dolls its vehicle and the lure for new players. Calling it a "gooner game" does it a diservice. Besides all that. I do recomend you go play their non-gacha game Reverse Collapse: Codename Bakery. It's got the best writting of the franchise so far and you are forced to use your brain.
The reason why I play GFL2 is the XCOM gameplay. I did play GFL1 but dropped it right after the Va-11 hall-a collab. Can't wait to see the rest of the characters especially Springfield.
At high enough level I really autoed it without issues, but the peak value assesment hordes thing cannot be cleared on auto at all it is really fun challenging game mode. I hope they add more "endgame" content like that.
I like that soft pity starts at 58 tbh. And from what i can tell from browong the CN chat logs. You can actually expect a limited every 45 days or so. Thats absolutely crazy considering you usually need at least 90 days+ or 2 patches to guarantee a limited in Hoyo games. I only used Hoyo as a comparison cuz they have the same % rates. But if the CN feed is true. The actual guaranteed time is straight up half.
The slow banner release is actually great, I hate Hoyo for spamming out characters that one up the previous on pretty much all their games while letting you experience a brazilian economy.
We just found out on the CN version that the currency you get from gacha to get weapons, also is gonna be useful to get summons and some other items. Great review btw man. You were on point on everything my friend.
It's actually at least four rendering patents, but they only apply for two of the more iconic ones, stockings and fluff (the cat carrying the machine gun). There are a lot of companies using the U3D engine, and a lot of them can claim to have a unique way of rendering faces, so they didn't even apply it,but I think we can all see that GF2's faces are also quite refined compared to a lot of U3D games.
@@officert-f5s I hadn't even heard of U3D before, but that looks like a pretty nice, full-featured engine for open source. The MICA gang have definitely done well on the look of GFL2, and the 3D faces look great without any weird clipping, sorting and lighting issues. My biggest complaint in the visual department is the portrait shots all look like bad driver's license photos. If they wanted to do that, they should have gone all the way and integrated the portraits into some kind of ID card in the refitting room, but I personally would have preferred more GFL1-style portraits. As far as stocking rendering goes, I wonder if they'll figure out a way to do what they do in PNC, where on Live2D models, you can often roll the stockings down and even completely off a girl's leg. It's really quite impressive. I'm not a big foot-guy, but I still admire the tech.
@@originaldarkwater Haha, in our community in this country we also call that an ID photo, I think MICA designed it that way on purpose, just to make all the girls have to be serious about having their photos taken. There's a rumor going around in the community that clicking on certain girls while deployed will give the photo a subtle change in expression, like certain lazy girls who hate going to work. As for the stocking removal, it may have to wait until they hire more techs, it's not a technical challenge, it's just a matter of the number of people working.
I actually just tried this game out for the first time yesterday! I haven’t been a huge fan of this style of gameplay and honestly, still not huge on the fanservice elements, but the story, characters, and gameplay have me hooked! I’m glad to know even you enjoyed it, Psychie!

I hate this game. Expected it to be a gonner's game only. However, it walks on the line of "A reasonable amount of fanservice/What in the snowbreak is this?" way too well and on top of that the story and setting is so well done, honestly, like there is a whole ass world with a LOT of lore to be explored that just so happens to fall under the perfect category for me that can be better described as the "Punishing Gray Raven" category; Military/scifi/fantasy with a darker/aggressive tone. Fan service does not make me keep playing the game at all, but I also don't despise it. From a guy that plays PGR/PTN and Reverse 1999 only... I'd say 9/10 not enough tacticool drip.
I gotta say though, having even more tactical outfits available for girls like Groza, I'm happy, because I can choose cool OR sexy depending on my mood.
@PlatinumKrown That's the line this game walks perfectly. I already bought groza's dress skin cut she is hot. Just hope that they also add in tactical outfits side by side with the hot ones.

probably a good idea. The only gun worth getting atm is probably the AR Golden Melody (flexible stat stick) but you could just use the future pulls on a limited weapon instead or better yet a character.

I've been playing this like a normal game and it's been a blast, the almost 5-year-long wait was more than worth it. People are missing out on a lot by skipping the whole story and letting the game play itself, especially when you can punch well above your weight if you use good ol' strategy instead of relying on whatever the dumb computer thinks is best.

I played 5 years of GF1 and I am not sure how to feel about GF2. We are running a giant military base in GF1 with over 700 Dolls (Terminator but Cute) with helicopters, tanks and mechs (building sized mechwarrior). During the week I run logistics, which is the simple timer for resources, and on the weekend I got time to run mission with those. You are actually managing an army, it isn't just combat and items. If you feel reminded of Diamond Dogs from MGSV you would be spot on because that's where they got it from. In the story, some major characters just died (If you are thinking of early GoT that is where they got it from) and we just got the giant mobile base that GF2 sets in, 10 years later with a total of 3 dolls. I hope the story in GF1 keeps going on for a while, because GF2 seems to have skipped a lot. What worries me a lot is one of the major characters is MIA right now, and there was a scene that went "I promise you" "10 YEARS LATER" "I couldn't keep that promise" "10 YEARS PRIOR" "So you can trust me on that". And this is GF1. There is a real chance they died and are not coming home.
Gfl 1 just ended it's story in this week update you know, at least main story one, and it does make a lot of sense on skk reason to go and the protocol on breaking gnk apart. It's nice actually, to finally see the main story ended

I've been impressed by the writing in this game so far. Characters actually talk to one another in a way that makes sense.. aside from Nemesis I suppose. But I'm glad to be reading dialogue that isn't outlandishly flowery and bloated like HSR and its awful Penacony story. And the commander is a competent character that takes charge and alters plans on the fly depending on the circumstances. I also really appreciate the archives that you can read through in the Elmo server room. The one about therapy visits for an ex-soldier with PTSD and depression was fairly heavy reading and I didn't expect to see something like it in a gacha game. Some of the writing in this game reaches a level of maturity far beyond anything that Hoyo games have to offer. And I kinda like the juxtaposition of reading several entry logs worth of depressing lore, reflecting on it while lost deep in thought to then seeing Sharkry flashing her booty in the level-up screen just moments later. I'm loving this game so far.

As someone that played snowbreak , nope , not even close. Here the developers have a spine and didn't surrender to pathetic chinese incels , turning every single character in more of a doll than a human , ironically. The MC is pretty unique , the dolls are not made of jello and have better designs and are decently written , similar to nikke.

I stopped playing GFL1 specifically for the reason you mentioned, it was overwhelming. But I was well aware of how deep the lore and world building in the game goes. GFL2 is defo a gooner game, but I'm certain the story will make people want to stay, like it did for GFL1. I'm honestly a little surprised to learn how well received it was on the global server, thinking that it was a little bit of a niche game.
purchasing the skins though buying credits is actually cheaper for example the summer skin for suomi will end up costng you 15 for credits wise instead of straight going for the 20 dollar straight buying option.
Well, the truth is that for now the best support character in the entire game (including the Chinese version) is Suomi. If you like the game and want to know which characters will be coming to the global version, check out the list for the Chinese version. Of course, the devs said that they won't come in the same order, but you already know who to save up for and such. The gatcha is good, you can do auto battle in almost all except bosses
Would you consider making a video on Ash Echoes? It was released not too long ago and it's honestly pretty amazing, but sadly kinda fell off the radar for many.

As a potato gamer, I must say that I'm very impressed with the game performance optimization. My phone is just a helio g99 processor, and the game ran rather smoothly, especially the cutscenes, where usually in other games somehow cutscenes are lagging (hsr for example). But, the most bamboozling thing is, after playing for awhile, without any notable performance drop, when I checked my graphic settings, IT WAS SET IN ULTRA BY DEFAULT. Like, damn, I have never gotten any 3D game to be playable in ultra before in my phone, GFL 2 is the only one. Seeing how it's made in Unity like some other popular games, GFL sure did their shader and stuffs very well to not make potatoes lag
The fanservice is fairly heavy but still in a reasonable range imo. More than ZZZ but less than Snowbreak. The combat is a bit to easy outside of some boss fights and end game modes but that is fine. Personally I think the game's only real weak point is the music. It isn't bad but it isn't really memorable either. This is probably the gacha I've enjoyed the most not made by Hoyoverse. A large part of that is the combat being something other than an action rpg (over saturated genre atm).

I got into GFL1 several years ago because I like guns and I like anime girls. I never got that deep with it cause it's a neverending well.

Sunborn patented the stocking rendering mechanism for this game lol
They know their playerbase very, very well and embrace it, which you can think of what you want, but it's definitely respectable and nice to see that they are in touch with the ones they are developing this game for, but this doesn't mean that GFL1 playerbase is a bunch of gooners - no, generally they are pretty dedicated strategy game players who enjoy eye candy in their depressing strategy game where dolls actually have personality and story.
Gfl2 one year have 27 character compare to hoyo 50 on one year.

Also, while the dormitory does not have different animation depending on where you touch the doll, the Refitting Room does (the game is not beating the allegation I'm trying to defend against, I feel like)
"most dolls are fairly covered and normally dressed" Nemesis and Krolik are literally right there as half of the main story dolls lol.
@Cr3zant and they're both fully clothed. Ok, it's skintight suits, but Nemesis cape kinda hides it and it's like two characters in the game. Most characters is still most characters, regardless of their implication in the story
@@Cr3zant Keyword = "most"
That's 2 dolls you're naming and to be fair, their outfits are fine because snipers and blade users want light armor for more mobility. SI is a general 60% damage reduction that, if above 0, allows you to benefit from an additional, directionally dependent 20% cover DR.
Sound like a stategy that MICA team would absolutely do (and will keep doing it)
indeed, I'll have to skip out on some of the farmable mats since I was a couple days behind.

Weapons do have a minor ascension mechanic where you need to get 6 copies of a weapon to "calibrate" them to max and buff their special quality.
That's not an ascension mechanic, that's a limit break
Under the terminology used in the video only characters have Ascension mechanics, while both Characters and Weapons have Limit Breaks
In addition the term Ascension being used to describe a level cap increase is coming straight from Genshin Impact, a game that the vast majority of Psychie's target audience is probably already familiar with.

I tried the soujourners part 1 stage 1 hard mode in auto and after that I hated those damn toads. Cleared it manually after 5 tries.
Or a v6 soumi friend lol
Fun fact: MICA has a patent on their "stocking rendering" technology.
It's incredible and the only gooner game I know that appeals so much to foot lovers. lmao

Back in GF1 old Events would be added to the permanent selection after some time. Sometimes months, sometimes years. Some are still not there.

As a potato gamer, I must say that I'm very impressed with the game performance optimization. My phone is just a helio g99 processor, and the game ran rather smoothly, especially the cutscenes, where usually in other games somehow cutscenes are lagging (hsr for example). Like, damn, I have never gotten any 3D game to be playable in ultra before in my phone, GFL 2 is the only one. Seeing how it's made in Unity like some other popular games, GFL sure did their shader and stuffs very well to not make potatoes lag

But fr tho why are the feet textures so detailed, got it at the lowest settings cuz dont want my phone to explode, but the dawgs were still in HD????
The fanservice is fairly heavy but still in a reasonable range imo. More than ZZZ but less than Snowbreak. The combat is a bit to easy outside of some boss fights and end game modes but that is fine. Personally I think the game's only real weak point is the music. It isn't bad but it isn't really memorable either. This is probably the gacha I've enjoyed the most not made by Hoyoverse. A large part of that is the combat being something other than an action rpg (over saturated genre atm).
Funnily enough it has more fanservice than Snowbreak did at launch
@@jaiell2049 Well I was comparing what I've seen of the skins and such from this game's CN server which is about a year old with current SB and ZZZ. I didn't really make that clear.
@@Nowaylarry nah you made it clear enough. Regardless Snowbreak was trying to be tacticool the first couple months of release, then got pressured by low sales numbers so they went full on fanservice, which saved them. This is more or less well known
If not for the Daiyan drama, I'm fairly sure GFL2's prescenece as a gacha would've been felt more in CN, but as I understand that drama in particular is more of a straw that broke the camel's back cus CN GFL2 back then was wholly different to what the EN players got in Global GFL2.
Now I'm wishing the best for both titles and I hope both manage to avoid any more toxic drama, but also that they take it a bit easy on the fanservice because my wallet is empty more often than not
@@jaiell2049 Fair points. I am enjoying the actual gameplay though I am looking forward to some actual challenge in the end game modes. The story missions go a bit beyond casual friendly so far (that may change idk).
you like the turn based battle, now try reverse collpase. single player srpg take place in same universe.
can u do a review about Infinite Nikki.? probably not your kinda game, but I would love to know ur opinion
Imo this game isn’t, at least for now, a “gooner gacha game” and I think the comparison with Snowbreak is fair but lacking. There is already so much things to do in GFL2 compared to SB, and the game is definitely better in terms of progression and story narration.
Eh, it kinda is. I'd say you're just pretty deep into this circle so you're perspective is skewed.
Play Reverse Collapse instead if you want an actual tactical SRPG from the same dev.
distant sequel to GFL world with an actual story and everything
so, a week into it I managed to get suomi and her weapon after 3 pities, tololo in my beginner banner, sabrina and qiongjiu with only sabrina's weapon being the only one i dont currently have on my lineup, pretty generous I'd say and im f2p still
This is my introduction to the Girls Frontline Series and it's ok I think..compared to Snowbreak, this is a more "relax" and "strategic" game you can play while commuting :)
I would love to see a buff for the melee units though...
As someone who has played gfl and loved its story I've been hyped for this game
I was surprised there was a gender choice, and your character actually appears and is voiced to boot. Thats as high effort as a gatcha gets.
I got into GFL1 several years ago because I like guns and I like anime girls. I never got that deep with it cause it's a neverending well. Blue Archive became my main gacha instead and it plays surprisingly similar to the old GFL. It however absolutely did *not* prevent me from taking a liking to feet so when I saw that not only was GFL2 coming out, but it also catered to that, I had to get it.
The gameplay is kinda neat but if I want gameplay I play ZZZ. The gacha is alright but if I want generous gacha, I have Blue Archive. Im here for the guns and the grippers.
The legendary positive review!
DONT USE REDUNDANT PIECES FOR WEAPONS!!
later you will be able to exchange premium pulls for them
At what rate?
getting an SSR weapon of my choice looks like a good deal to me tho. I guess it will depend on the rate of exchange
Tha later is really late
