    My own anecdotal evidence from having one of my girls on a diet is that she thinned down much nicer when I fed her a smaller amount but still regularly. When I tried feeding her once every two weeks there was no difference at all, even after a few months of trying, so I think regular schedule but fewer insects is where it's at. 🙏

    My gecko has an armpit boob freaked me out I thought he was sick, hes not really fat but he is a lazy guy not one to run around and chase a fast Dubia, he used to, but I think at 10years old he's not as spry as he used to be. I had no idea they stored nutrients there that's a huge relief thanks for the great video!

      Only feed once a week. Other feeders you can try are live crickets, roaches, silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, hornworms, and mealworms. The more variety in their diet, the better. You can try rubbing super worm guts on other feeders. You can also make super worms pupate by isolating them and feed your gecko the fresh beetles, they’re enrich less fatty (unfortunately they take awhile to pupate).

    My gecko noyvern is the same morph as Diego and he kinda acts like him too(from what I've seen), my other two act drastically different, like noyvern comes up to me when I sit over there but my gecko zeckrom barely comes out unless theres food and even then unless its something he really likes (horn worms so far are his favorite) he waits for me to go away to eat and always eats less when I tong feed him, but noyvern walks out to meet me and even let's me just pick him up, my other gecko spinx still runs away most of the time, and just chills on my arm while I do things, although sometimes noyvern digging is loud, he seems to make a little cold hide cave in the spring (even though he has multiple cold hides) under his slate and sleeps more
    Idk just wanted to share, I'm really glad I found your videos the care guides I found when I first got my geckos weren't the best but now my geckos are healthy and probably happy

The vet looked at all my records of what I've fed her, saw her poop, gave her a full body exam and could not explain why it had happened. It's really hard when things like this happen so suddenly. Hope you're keeping well 💕

    Hi all, I'm hoping to get some advice on this forum. We are first time owners of a lovely gecko. We got her 5 months ago from previous owners. She looked fat but we are no expert so we thought nothing of it. 3 weeks ago she stopped eating. We brought her to the vet and he told us she is very obese and she has fat liver disease. We have been force feeding her with the syringe for the past week.. Its terrible, it's distressing for her and for us. She is getting half of what they told me to give her because she gets too distressed and takes ages. They told me to give her 2ml daily. She is pooing fine so I know she is getting nutrients in but she still doesn't even look at the insects. What does it need to happen for her to restart eating independently? It's torture to force feed her and I don't think it's healthy for her to be under this experience every day. Thanks for any advice

    My little girl gets the armpit boobs but she's not over weight lol She's pretty sleek, Not perfect weight for her but close too, she tends to loose a few grams during winter (i mean like 3 or so grams so not much) and it is hard to get those 3 grams back I do manage but it's always back on right before winter again so frustrating. My vet never worries about it though her health is great :)

    So I've had my leopard gecko for about five years and have never seen her shed her skin. We feed her two to three meal worms every other day. We tong feed her because she tends to ignore her food and walk all over it if we don't. I make sure her water bowl is full and she has a heating pad in her tank. I don't know what is going on.

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      She’s shedding overnight and eating it before you notice. Some advice: mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple and definitely shouldn’t be the only thing they’re eating. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better. At that age she should only be fed 1-2 times a week.
      Also, heat mats are not a good primary heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

    My gecko used to be a great eater, loved mealworms. In Nov, she wasn't well and started vomiting. Took her to the vet and all was fine. They figured it may have been an infection . She was 86 grams then and had armpit bubbles. Since then, she has slept most of the time, absolutely refuses to eat mealworms or super worms anymore, and she is down to 73 grams. I thought maybe brumation (even though she's never done that before...she's 4), but shouldn't that be over? I've tried silkworms (she ate them one at a time maybe once a week and they are a pain to feed and keep alive), I've tried horn worms and she won't look at them, and I have tried crickets and she will not even look at them. She does LOVE wax worms, and so I have been giving her one or two of them dusted a week. She's pooping, drinking and into her vitamins that I keep in there for her and shedding fine. I keep mealworms and super worms here and keep trying every day to get her to eat them again. What am I going to do if she won't? Will wax worms be the death of her? :(

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      Stop feeding her waxworms, keep trying other feeders. You can try roaches and black soldier fly larvae. You can also try rubbing waxworm guts on other feeders.

      It is a tricky one, once they're used to a certain insect they can kind of refuse anything else. That's why when raising Maui I've tried to offer him a variety. Have you tried calci/phoenix worms? Or tong feeding crickets? Sometimes when a gecko is so used to slow moving worms, a fast, jumpy cricket just seems like too much effort haha

      There isn’t really a way to prevent it, just make sure the heating/lighting and temps are good. They should be out of brumation soon. If they’re female, it’s normal for females to go off food during breeding season due to ovulation.

      So they're kind of like little barometers, and will react to a drop in air pressure too.
      What kind of heater are you using? If the DHP is available to you, it might be worth trying? :)

      @@leopardgeckotalk im using the dhp and the shadedweller 7% uvb proT5 and he/she (dont know the sex) seems to like it... Started to eat less i november and in the midle of december "he" has been staying in the moist hide....

      @@urbanzturbanz I strongly recommend using a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat as the primary heat source, they’re actually more natural and beneficial than DHPs. The levels of infrared A and B they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength).

    Is the d3 in the multivitamins?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      It can be, or it can be in the calcium. Just make sure d3 isn’t left in the enclosure. When using UVB (which is very beneficial and strongly recommended) you need supplements without d3.

      You mean the gecko only going out at night? That’s pretty normal.

    Can you please help me? I just rescued a beautiful leopard and she is a little underweight - only a heat mat. I am watching you videos and at the store trying to determine which Arcadia light and heat to buy but am so confused. What is an optimal set up for light and heat in a breeder type tank (probably 20 - 30 gallons/not tall) with wire mesh top .

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      A PAR30 or PAR38 halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option for heat. You can get them from hardware stores. Arcadia’s shadedweller is ideal for UVB. A 40 gallon would be ideal for the tank.

    I feed my gecko every night the average amount of crickets ( sometimes mealworms ) but he doesnt put on alot of weight and I really want to help nugget but idk what to do

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      How old is he? Try other feeders. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.

      Yeah its so interesting how each gecko is different. Like with my geckos I can be feeding them all the same amount of bugs and I end up with Diego at his size and everyone else at completely lighter weights lol

      Whereas my girl will eat 2 or 3, go bask under her warm light for a couple minutes and then come back and do the “ooh bugs!” face. I’m def keeping an eye out that I don’t overfeed but I kind of want to see my gecko pig out once lol
