#ReptileHeating #LeopardGecko #UVB - Животные
Thank you for watching this video. As I suspected, due to the subject manner, this isn't going to be the most 'popular' video, but if you know someone it can help, feel free to share it! 😊
Leopard Gecko so I use the 50 W deep heat projector as presented in the video, but i don’t have a dimming thermostat because I couldn’t find any good ones. However, I DO have the DHP at the designated ideal distance from the highest basking point in my geckos tank. Is this okay?
It should be!
Thanks for this, helped a lot! 😊👌
Hi Rebecca, I’ve watched all of your videos on here & they’ve been so helpful to me for my leopard gecko. I’ve set everything correct in his vivarium and the correct distances however my leo hides from his UV (the same on in this video) every time I turn it on in the morning he hates it please can you advise 😔
Is a 10 gallon tank good size for 2 leopard geckos? And what does it mean if one of my geckos tails are curled up at the end PLEASE HELP ME THIS US MY FIRST PET!!!!
As long as you stay informative, you will always be interesting. You do the right thing by making information the priority in your vids.
Thank you 😊😊
@@leopardgeckotalk No thank you
These things ARE so important - your videos are invaluable - from a fellow 20-something-england-based-reptile-woman 😂 thank you!
Thank you 😊💕
Im so glad a switched to a deep heat projector a few months ago you responded to my comment about my leo (gary) not coming out very much well i did finally get a deep heat projector for Christmas and put it on his tank which was glass and had a mesh lid (exo terra large low) i waited for about 2 weeks and it didnt have any affect on him and wasnt hot enough so i went to a trusted reptile shop near me for advice they said to keep heat in i should switch to a 3 foot wooden tank which i did and installed the deep heat projector in and now hes out all the time he loves sitting on top of his slate hide under the deep heat projector
Ah that's fantastic to hear!! Yeah I believe wooden tanks hold in heat a lot better than glass :) Great to hear Gary is doing well :)
You're my number 1 go to leo or reptile RUclips. Thank u for such valuable info. U have no idea how many little leo lives I'm sure you have improved just from throwing good info out there. It's hard to find quality info on anything and you seem to really care for the Lil guys. I do too, so thank you! Bad husbandry is common even for cats or dogs or CHILDREN. Ppl shouldn't bring a living being into their life if they aren't willing to work hard, pay a lot and inform themselves on what it needs to THRIVE not just survive. If ppl always treated their kids to only the minimum for them to live how terrible would that be. So we shouldn't do it to our pets because they are just as alive and feeling as use. Ty ty!
I have to agree with comments here, this content is important and interesting. If not for your video I would probably not be using DHP and would have no knowledge about jungle dawn led for plants. Your videos are very informative and helpful! I know I'm not speaking for myself here and say that we would love more content like that.
Aw thank you so much! 😊
@@leopardgeckotalk I'm getting a 3 month old and the enclosure 50 cm tall. The hide is only 10 cm tall. Is it OK if I sterilize and file some bricks and put my hide on top where he can be close enough to UVB/ DHP and lay under the hide on the bricks?
If so what is the best way to do this, there is some Condradicting info on the Internet
Suspect this wont be your most viewed vid BUT the reptile keepers NEED MORE VIDS LIKE THIS!!! THANKS for doing what is best for the reptiles and not what is best for your pocket!
Thank you :) yeah I knew for sure that view-wise it wasn't going to be as popular as most videos, but it's such an important subject, I'd rather help create the right environment for a reptile and risk not earning as much this month 🙈
Haha, Rebecca? This is far from being a boring video. This is something everyone should know, and I’m sure that loads of people have been looking for a video like this one! Very informative!! Keep it up 👍
I honestly love these educational videos. You have some much information and I wish other leopard gecko keepers would listen to this and learn what these bulbs do for our animals. Thank you for the video!
Thank you 💕
This is the first video I've found on heating setup that actually diagrams how to place overhead heat sources for maximum effectiveness; super dang useful, I was so confused before!
I'm thinking of getting a leopard gecko myself, thank you for sharing this! As I've never had a pet reptile before, I'm kind of overwhelmed with all of the information, so your videos are really saving me. Thank you so so much!
I literally just received my Arcadia Shade Dweller, Deep Heat Projector, and Herpstat Dimming Thermostat yesterday from Pangea. I even messaged Arcadia to ask which Deep Heat Projector bulb I should get with my tank. It’s like you read my mind because I had questions about the distance. Thank you so much for this video, now I’m confident in setting up the rest of my equipment 💕
Ah great timing!! No problem 😀💕

New Videos are the BEST!!
Thanks :D
Great info i was looking for thanks
Thank you for you informative videos :) I have followed your recommendations and set up my viv with the deep heat projector and the shade dweller UV light (not actually got a leo yet!). Im concerned about the distance from the UV and the basking spot. In my viv it is about 11 inches away from the UV light, which from your video would be fine, but on the arcadia site it says "an average UV Index of 0.80-1.00 can be achieved at 10”/25cm from the lamp"... can you explain where your 12 inch calculation arises from? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!!!
Thank you sooo so much for this video, I have plans to get a basilisk soon and I'm so worried I'm not going to do the lighting or heating correctly 😅 I've only used undertank heaters with thermostats for my snakes, so I'm new to other sources of heat and lighting. But this video really helped!
Ah nice! No problem, glad it's helped :D
4:08 So can you use a heat-mat along side with the lamp in this situation?
Thank you for more info!
No problem, thanks for watching 😊
Really helpful thank you
With your DHP what are you doing for night time temperatures? Are you turning it off completely? Leaving the Temp the same as day time? Or just turning the temp down. Lots of people say a night time temp drop is important as long as it’s above 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18.5 C). Just wondering what you do. Great video. I use both of these products with a dimming stat
Nice Video Really Helped!
Thank you :D
Thanl you so much! this really helped
Thank you so much!
Very very informative video
This video is far from boring it has helped me a lote
How long do you leave the deep heat projector and the UV light on for during the day? Also, can you plug the thermostat into a timer?
If Iv'e got heat mats underneath substrate on the flooring of the enclosure, do I need both the lamp and UV or just the UV? I wasn't sure if that would make everything too hot if I had heat mats as well
Very informative thank you and nice voice
i loved the beginning of this vid! keep up the work. i also hope your sickness is gone!
Thank you :) ah it's still lingering but I'm doing better :)
I have a 40 gallon bio tank. I have two heat pads on one thermostat that is set at 80 to 85 degrees . Tank never gets above 77 Degrees. Sensor is slightly buried under bio-dude substrate 3to 4” between sensor and heating pads. Are you supposed to cover top of tank to prevent heat loss?
so where i live I cant find any dhp's and was wondering if the ceramic heater is a better choice than a heat matt
Love your videos!! Always have :) Just wondering if you've considered dropping your lights down from inside? I actually have my lights installed inside the enclosure which allows me to adjust each dome/light strip ect to the desired height. Ideally the light can be hardwired to the ceiling of the enclosure but for this reason I quit doing that and started hanging the lights from ceiling hooks. Just a thought. It's made this problem so much easier for me to tackle. (side note: my lights are not in danger of falling or a gecko being able to reach them.)
This was vary helpful thank you
no problem, thanks for watching :)
I have a blizzard variety. I'm getting a dhp bulb and a dimmer thermostat, and I have a T5 light bar do I also need a halogen bulb to create the day/night cycle plus a heat emitter bulb for at night and do they all need to be at the one end? Please
Very helpfully slightly confused but will deffo watch again when I upgrade my viv
Helps me so much, im supposed to get a gecko in march and needed to double check how to set these both up properly
Ah perfect! It's always so much easier when you've got the setup all ready and correct before getting the gecko, so glad to hear you're getting prepared :D
Very helpful
Hi I have a question! I got a UVB shadow dweller light, is there anything else I need for lighting / heating? Is that light good? I need help :(
Very helpful video!! I have a Chuckwalla, as far as you know would the distances etc be the same?
hiya your videos are brilliant i am learning so much from you so thankyou , i will be getting leopard gecko soon and want it to be right . i will be getting as 3ft vivarium width x 2ft deep the arcadia deep heat projector is 50watt ok ? plus 7% shadeweller kit is that ok too ? these will be fitted inside the viv not on top outside so just like to know what height viv would you get bearing in mind fittings will be inside i hope you can understand what im asking i would love to hear from you thankyou
Great video! I'm just wondering if a ceramic heat bulb will melt/burn the UV tube/holder when they're placed next to each other? I have a wooden viv 3ft long x
Great video, didn’t find it confusing at all
Ah perfect! Thank you :)
Two questions.
Where did you find the ideal UV level for your reptile? I've seen it mentioned in a few places, but nobody ever states their sources.
Second, how do you measure the UV index for your reptile?
Your so professional Rebecca$
I'm so confused because on the arcadia website I swear it says the pro t5 shadedweller has a uvi of only 0.80 when 10 inches away. This isn't enough right???
Hi Rebecca! This video was very helpful since I'm working on a new tank for my upcoming leopard gecko. For now I'll be using a heat mat, but in the future I'd love to upgrade to a dp projector. I will be using a 7% UVB Shadedweller, as well as Arcadia supplements. My tank is an Exo Terra 24×18×18, so I was wondering. Should I put my shadedweller above on the tank lid with the mesh, or hang it inside? And would I have to build the substrate and hides up more to reach the uvb light required? Thanks!
Cassidy T. The exo terra is too short for it to be placed inside. Place it on top of the mesh on the same side as the dhp/heat mat. And I wouldn’t build it up too high, you could go like 2 inches but any higher and you risk overexposing and heating your leopard gecko.
Hi, love you videos! Can I ask how when your uvb comes on and how long do you keep it on for?
My Leo is nearly 19 and all his life has just had a basking light in the day and heat pad that comes on at night. He’s still doing pretty good for his age but you can see moving a bit slower and so I thought the uvb would be better than supplementing d3. i thought the uvb would be a bit of a shock for him but he seems to be happy with it 🙂
You can keep the UVB on all day. Instead of the heat lamp I recommend using a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector (best option) connected to a thermostat
Love vids
Thank you :)
I’m having some trouble getting the deep heat projector (I’m using Arcadia’s 80watt) to the right heat. It’s currently 13.5 inches from the basking area or hot spot and with the dimming thermostat I have it only goes to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. (I have it set to 93 degrees Fahrenheit) I just upgraded my leopard gecko to a 67 gallon tank. So I’m trying out this instead of a heat mat. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any ideas will help!
Real quick. What's a dimming thermostat? I have a thermostat that turns my deep heat projector off until it needs to come back on again. Is this bad? Also I have NO idea if I'm currently hurting my gecko with my set up. I have a 10.0 UVB 13 watt desert mini compact fluorescent light from Zoo Med and with the Mini deep dome lamp fixture I have it says to place it at 8 inches above the basking spot but also says that a mettle grid on the top of some tanks can limit the UVB effects and I have such a grid so is the 8 inches alright or do I need to adjust it? Also where do you buy those amazing tanks for your geckos and where can I get one? Thank you :D
Jaron Green Dimming thermostats turn down their energy usage which will then turn down the temperature. Pulse thermostats will turn it on and off to control the temperature. Ideally, DHPs and CHEs last longer with dimmers because it doesn’t turn them on or off, just dims down their energy. I’ve heard the compact uvb bulbs loose their potency quicker than linear tube uvb like Arcadia’s bulbs. You’d have to research what index value at 8 inches it will produce. If it’s like 2-5 then with a mesh top it should half it. You can always contact Arcadia on Facebook or Instagram and get their opinion on that bulb. The 80gal tank is from custom reptile habitats, the others are various wooden vivariums.
One question are you using sand?
i didn't know you needed a heater so thank you
"Leopard geckos are beginner reptiles" they said. "Their care is easy" they said... TT__TT
it is pretty easy in terms of taming but you have to put in the effort just like every reptile
@@ijensnsan I was talking about this video, not taming
They are easy, It’s just the tank.
Thank you, so much. I’m setting up a bioactive enclosure for my leopard gecko and my ball python and this was so helpful. Perfect timing ☺️
I could listen to your accent all day 😍
What size slate would you recommend for a 40 gallon tank? Im planning on making a jungle theme tank for my leopard gecko and i was planning on adding slate and the size you use seemed perfect.
Thank you.
no problem :D
Hi I'm really confused about using UV. I was using a 10 UV strip light. When I was going to get a new one I was told by several shops I don't need a UV because I'm using calci dust and Nutrobal supplements. What do you advise?
This video is really helpful. I was really struggling with getting my head around heat placements. I'm using a ceramic heat lamp. Is this OK?
Many thanks and keep up the great work
They don’t need UVB but benefit from it. Use supplements without d3 when using UVB, just make sure your gecko is exposing themselves to it
What heat lamp and uvb should I use in a 2 foot high Vivarium for a leopard gecko?
Hey! I'm from the US and there isn't any good dimming stats here! I'm wondering if you could please list some links since I'm wanting to switch over soon! Thank you for your help for my leopard gecko!
Herpstat and Exo Terra dimming thermostat.
hi love your vids! just a quick question. I'm really considering getting a leopard gecko but the only place I could keep it is in my attic where I sleep. Obviously I'd rather sleep in the dark and was wondering is there anything I could do at night like put a sheet over the enclosure so the room isn't too bright. Also, during the summer it gets really hot in the attic while during the winter really cold. Is that a problem or as long as the enclosure is right temp is fine? Sorry if they're stupid question don't wanna rush into anything. Thanks!
Thanks :) ah my room is in the attic too! :) They will be fine with your room light, as for temp, the DHP will help when it gets cold. As for summer, my room can get a tad warm, but nothing too bad. We usually leave the window open :)
This is great info! Can an on/off thermostat be used with a deep heat projector? Pros/cons?
DHPs need a dimming thermostat.
i just bought the clamp lamp and the 80W DHP for my terrarium and i also have the ShadeDweller but would they need to be 12 inches apart because i have an exo terra 24x18x12 low terrarium?
I’d get a 40 gallon (36x18x18”) enclosure if possible. Look for cheap secondhand ones. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat would be more natural and beneficial than a DHP.
I'm from Puerto Rico and temperatures are tropical here, pretty hot even at night sometimes. Breeders here tell me not to add light and i feel compelled to agree since that would make the tank bake up and the little guy doesnt really seem to be uncomfortable, he always comes out at the same time, has energy, doesnt stay in his hide, even reaches out to me when he wants be picked up, he's a baby and have had him for like 2 or 3 weeks.
i need to know where i place my arcadia shadedweller prot5 7% uvb. I have a 40 gal and i need to know where to place it. Should i place it on the hot side, cool side, or in the center? Also one more question, does the arcadia uvb provide heat? Thanks!
On the warm side, overlapping the basking spot provided by the heat lamp. And no, UVB bulbs do not provide heat, you’ll need a separate halogen flood bulb.
i just got my first leopard gecco, i have a double over head lamp i can turn on and off, i have the red bukb and the blue, but im not sure where or what to get for the uvb light
Ditch both the red bulb and blue bulb, they’re no good. Use a halogen bulb or Arcadia’s deep heat projector for heating. Any heat source must be connected to a thermostat (halogens need a dimming stat like herpstat). If you want to get UVB, get Arcadia’s shade dweller from lightyourreptiles.com.
For example if you were to have one side as the warm side for the tank can one hide have a heating mat under and the deep heat projector on top or would they have to be two separate ones?
Just use a deep heat projector connected to a thermostat. You don’t need a heat mat.
I came back to this video finally and now I understand it XD
I have a thermometer on the wall and on the floor (area where the heat mat is). Which reading should I consider as "30/32"
The hot spot where the heat mat is should be 32-34. Make sure you’re using digital thermometers, not analog.
Hello I just got a Leo and I bought a uvband heat lamp duo do I use both on together or the heat during the day and the other at night?
The lights should be on during the day and off at night. Use a dimmer or dimming thermostat to regulate the heat lamp’s temperature. Make sure the UVB is a tube bulb, not a compact one.
If you have a under tank heat pad, do you still need the heat lamp? Or would just the uvb suffice ?
Your gecko will live with just a heat pad, but I strongly recommend switching to Arcadia’s deep heat projector or a halogen bulb. They’re far more beneficial and natural.
I'm really conflicted, about to get my first leo, an tangerine albino baby. The breeder said all lights stress albinos but it seems that uvb could be much healthier and more natural. Should I use the under tank heater and let her get a little older and just supplement with d3 until then and then try the ubv and deep heat projector then. Anyway, thanks your videos have been amazing and so helpful.
Some albinos don’t like UVB (mine doesn’t), but others will actively bask under it. Just make sure that when you offer UVB, you provide tons of coverage with things like fake plants.
You could wait until she’s older to switch to UVB and a DHP, or you could switch to them sooner. I’d definitely switch to a DHP as soon as you can
@@fionashepley478 thanks! That's super helpful!
If the basking spot is 10-12" from the heat source (as in the video) and it's at 90f, what should the ground temp be at the warm side? I have the same set up (10' from heat source), but in a 18' tall tank and the ground temp (warm side) is 72f.
It doesn’t matter what the ground temp is as long as the basking spot temp is in the 90s. The gecko will go up to the basking spot when they need/want to.
If I have a heat mat already, do I need the heat lamp for basking in addition to the heat mat and uva/uvb lamp
Heat mats aren’t a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat would be best.
I know this is an old video I understand if you don’t respond but anybody who has a question so I have a question I want to use a VB Bob I have a .50 it is about 11 inches away from the log I’ve done my research I know that parts fine but it on the cold side and I’m using a heat mat should I just switch to a basking bulb to do the full switch or should I stick with the heat mat and have the baby on the cold side because that’s the only side where the log would go where he could come out and bask in what he know where to go to bas
I’m just simplify it I’m using a UVB bulb it’s on the cold side where there’s no heat mat should I switch to an above tank heater or will the heat might be fine and will he know where to go to get the UVB
Hi Im going to set an exo terra ceramic heater in my terrarium for my gecko. I dont know which one to choose. The 150w or the 250w. The height of my terrarium is 30cm. Also Im going to install a thermostat. Since here in spain is very cold in winter I think Im going to choose the 250w lamp. Do you think is to much even though Im using a thermostat? Or if I use a thermostat when it gets very hot it will trun off and it will be ok?
Ceramic heat emitters aren’t a good primary heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively. Whereas CHEs only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. I also recommend upgrading to an enclosure that’s 90x45x45cm or larger.
hello i had a some questions, i was wondering how many watts your UV light is and if you can find that same thermostat in the USA
UVB wattage doesn’t matter. You can’t get that thermostat in the US. Herpstat is the best thermostat in the US. Vivarium electronics thermostats are good as well. A cheap on/off thermostat on Amazon is I power.
This was a sort of useful time for you to be posting this! There is a leopard gecko that I personally care for at my school. Sadly, a lot of his setup is wrong, including the fact that he has a red lamp as a light/heater and there is nothing there measuring the temperature. Hopefully I can help him and get him some proper supplies!
Aww I'm glad you're looking out for him, hopefully you're able to make some changes :)
Something I’m a bit confused on is if my UV works well with the 10 inch distance but the basking spot will end up to hot in that distance will the diming thermostat make sure it doesn’t exceed that 32 C temp we are aiming for? So I basically can I keep them both at 10 inch and let the diming thermostat regulate the deep heat projector? I ask because I have a shallow tank (12 inch was) and I’m not sure how to increase the height of the deep heat projector and UV-B since building up wouldn’t work in my case.
I’ve got a 12” tall tank as well, and a deep heat projector. As long as it’s hooked up to a good thermostat, the temperature will be fine. 32-34 is ideal for the basking spot temp.
Although, you could upgrade to a bigger enclosure with more height. The gecko would benefit from more climbing height.
Hi. I know I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve got a set up based on advice in your videos for our new leopard gecko (Vecna).
However, Vecna is a Bell Albino Morph and I’m concerned the light set up is too bright or strong. Jungle Dawn LED, Shade Dweller 7% UVB and DPH. Could this harm her?
She should be fine, just provide plenty of plant coverage and opportunities for cryptic basking. How’s she doing?
I was going to use a UV light for my crested gecko, how would I go about doing that as in the distance? Since the gecko climbs all over the place, I have less control over the distance for the UV to be safe
