Much love for you Nina! Glad that you are doing okay and taking care of your children. Our Government should be caring for our veterans much better than they are! My late father served in the Korean War, and two of my siblings were service men...one in the Air Force, where he took care of veterans that were having emotional problems. The other one served in Desert Storm, and is a retired Army officer. I have the up most respect and love for everyone that served our country.

As a Brit who’s nation treats its veterans better than yours does my heart goes out to you guys, say what you will about the tyranny of America today and even Germany during ww2 but the veterans of them are only trying to serve their country and majority of you all are not to blame for what the higher ups are up to and what they have done, many of you are just trying to feed your family’s or trying to find some higher purpose, I respect your willingness to serve your country proudly, my thoughts go out to the troops in Israel and even in Ukraine and Russia during a time where Israel’s in a fight for sheer survival and Ukraine and russias in a war for money and power, times are going to be extremely hard in the very very near future, we’re already loosing people on our own soil to our enemy’s who our leaders let in without hesitation to destroy us

FFDP also did another cover too. Beware! You might need tissues with this one! It is Offspring's "Gone Away" My uncle is a Navy Vet who served 12 years active and 8 years reserve plus he was called up after 9/11 Attacks. But my uncle was unable to discuss his orders deemed classified until he got back. At the time, Airspace over the country was shutdown. Only traffic still going is shipping traffic. So, his ship was part of group monitored shipping especially incoming shipping. My uncle came closed to be near Vietnam when he signed up in 1975, but USA pulled out from Vietnam. RIP for your father! Salute to him, my uncle and others who served and sacrificed their lives for our freedoms!

Three weeks after I retired my son was killed by an IED in Afghanistan. I had to go tell his twin sister that her brother had been killed. I have almost joined the 22 seven times since that day. Vets are some of the most humble human beings I've ever met. In my 22 years of life I've never once heard a vet call themselves a hero or anything....yet they are. They sacrificed so much just to get nothing in return and many have told me they would do it again. (My family is full of vets) They are good enough to put up their lives but not good enough to help once they get back.

The military needs a better out process as well. When I went through my out process and “classes” on how to return to civilian life or seek help if we where having a difficult time,, it was a joke. It was a three day class that started at 8:00am, lunch at noon (hour long), came back to class for about 2 hours, and went home. They basically just gave us a hand book and said “good luck”. A lot needs to change both with the military and the VA when we get out.

I know what you mean. I got med boarded out back in 2012, psych issues. No classes. Disability rating of 0% from the DoD, 70% from the VA. Luckily I had that. Still didn't help me maintain myself afterwards; couldn't keep a job, homeless two different times. 10 years it took for me to become stabilized as best I could, I got lucky.

Jen… We know Veterans’ Day as “Remembrance Day” here in Australia (November 11th) & when you mentioned the huge suicide rate among returning/returned veterans, that resonates here in my country. A huge number of soldiers who returned from Iraq & Afghanistan (some “multiple tourers”) have had so much trouble readjusting to society, even with family support & far too many turn to drugs & alcohol to try to cope, often alienating their loved ones. Eventually, it’s become too much & they end up taking their own lives.
…What REALLY “kills” them is the extreme lack of support & compassion from the government when they try to gain access to or apply for veterans’ benefits or a pension, only to be left with a mountain of red tape preventing them from getting they help that they not only need, but the help they have EARNED!!! It makes you wonder what’s the point of fighting for your own freedom or that of your country when your own GOVERNMENT turn their backs on you 😠😠🤬🤬. Seeing & hearing about veterans being pissed & shit on gets my blood absolutely BOILING!!! Soldiers who have passed away from past wars would be spinning in their graves if they could see how piss weak governments are to their returning veterans in this day & age. Much…. MUCH respect to ALL who have or who continue to wear the uniforms of their country’s military ✊️😔

Thank you for your dad's service. As a vet and the things I have seen and done and friend's i have lost, haunts me everyday. I have came close to being homeless. I don't have anyone to talk to about things. Even those who said to call if I ever needed anything, even my wife. She doesn't care and threw the PTSD in my face and laughed about it. Civilians don't really understand what we go through. And due to all the above, I was so depressed I almost ended it all! The person that saved me from ending everything was my 6 year old son that walked in when I was about to do it. I'm still in the mindset of what if I ended it all.

Hello Jen, also a Vietnam vet kid here. Currently in the Army now myself. My dad was at themed of Vietnam, he went there to do more noncombat stuff. Some stories I know, other stuff I don't. Like I know he got wounded by shrapnel, but don't know the details behind it. They tried to put him on morphine, but he rejected that so he wouldn't get addicted. He could even tell of what happened to him when he got to West Germany. They put my dad on guard duty alone as he was single and they were expecting an attack. Although a different area, but just in case. Sure enough the showed up, had a stare down, but kept driving off to go to their target location where the military was waiting for them. Well, one made it back to where my dad was and shot at him, barely missing his head, and my dad turned and fired finishing him off. It happened in a second. It was only one life, but thats the thing: one. One my dad could see and remember every freaking day. He struggled with that the rest of his life, though he did forgive himself, it wasn't;t his fault, it was self defense, etc. But it still pecked at him a bit. The Lord helped him through it all though. He has Alzheimer's and is in a veterans home right now.
However, despite everything he told me, as proud and patriotic as an American he is, he wouldn't really talk about when he came back. And my dad would talk about everything and anything. But not that. There was a LOT of anger there. Plus hearing how other vets of that time were treated, I think he faced the same which made him more angry.
I love my dad. Long family history in the military. Part of why I joined was to make him proud. Always love your family.

Thank you Jen for doing this. And your support, and what you said. I'm not sure if you know this but it means a lot to us. I served 18 years, 13 of that was sea duty. Due to being gone so much, it cost me my family. At my 18 year mark I ended up with a partial disability discharge. Most times it can be a struggle to just get through each day. Lot's of us cant even get a low paying job. Because there are so many employers that wont even give us the time of day. I have a few issues myself. I have some sleepless nights. Seeing this video makes my recall what i saw happen to this poor Afghan kid, and a Marine I had to help evac, took two stretchers for him. The vast majority of the general public don't have a clue what we deal with on a daily basis. We don't want freebies and everything handed to us. Just what we were promised, nothing more. I get a measly $635 a month disability that's all. But those dam politicians regardless of party can spend one term get full pay and benifits for life. There's others in far worse shape than I am. If not for my mom I would have been one of the many on the streets right now.

Hard song to watch! Not just a problem in US. It happens in other countries also. War is such a despicable thing. How these men are expected to come home and pick up their lives, after seeing things they have seen and experienced. Some did not come home and I’m thinking more that they probably are the lucky ones. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺

US Marine Retired, Grunt to Drill Instructor by way of Iraq. This portrays, in a small part, the sacrifice, pain and ultimately the inability we have to ever put it to rest. It burns into you. I can still smell Iraq, my buddies who didnt come back are burnt into my memory. The smoke, heat, fire, images of brothers blowing up, I cannot ever forget but I have come to grips with it. GOD is the only way. People like you reacting to wonderful songs like this bring to light whats going on in us Jarheads and why we seem a little off sometimes. Its hard to have a good day when all you can see is a guy you loved, would die for laying next to you cut in half. Thank you for making it more public. Everyone need to see a little bit so you know we saw alot!

Hi Jen! I know you reacted to this a year or so ago, but I just saw it. I'm a 73 year old Vietnam vet. I've seen this video probably 100 times, and I've cried every time. Thank you for sharing the story of your father. I'm glad the war is finally over for him, and he's finally at peace. Even though the war has been over for almost 50 years, it doesn't end for us until our last breath. I used to think that the hate that was directed at us would end in time, but now I know it won't end until we're all gone. I have been called "baby-killer" and "war criminal" in the last two years. Btw... this is an old song; the numbers they gave in the video are much, much higher now. Please take good care of yourself, and thank you for caring about us. Much love!

Hi Jen, over here in the uk being a soldier or serving in any of the armed forces is a thankless job and they get paid far too little for what they sacrifice and what their families sacrifice, I’ve always said that professional sports players should swap their wages with the ladies and gentlemen of the armed services so they can have a better quality of life for themselves and their families and regarding politicians it’s the same everywhere, they over promise and under deliver, take care and I wish you all the best

I want to thank you for your dads service, and the wonderful woman he raised. Typing through my tears i remember those that came home under a flag. I was homeless for several years. I was befrended by a 70 year old black man who scooped me up off a park bench in the middle of winter it raining and i was very sick. He took me home and nursed me back to health. It took time but he was as passionate about us as you are. God Bless Enos. And God bless you young lady.

My dad was also a veteran in the Vietnam war(to us Hmong People, it's known as the Secret War). The Hmong people are a small minority hill tribe group that lives in the mountains of Southeast Asia, mainly Laos and Vietnam. My dad was recruited by the CIA to draw maps of the jungle in Laos to hopefully help the Americans gain access to Vietnam. Unfortunately, I lost my dad last year to suicide. He battled with depression, PTSD, and delusions. It's my first time hearing this song, and I couldn't stop crying with you. My heart hurts with you, we need to do better for our veterans!!! Thank you for your dad's service❣️

I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We're not known to be a beautiful city....but our city is heavy on love for our country. During the first Gulf War, in the little housing suburb I lived in, there were 400 homes, of those homes probably 75% had a son in the military during the Gulf War...yellow ribbons were in every yard. That being said, our city council just purchased something like 13 acres of land and are working to build a Tiny Home Community there for (AND ONLY FOR) our homeless Veterans. It'll give them shelter, counseling, and hopefully a trade or a skill so they can get back on their feet. God Bless Our Veterans and God Bless Your Dad for his service.

I did eight years in the Air Force, I was para rescue. My job was when somebody had life-threatening injuries, I would meet them on the battlefield and perform medical flight medicine back to the hospital. My biggest fight was not my for two words that I did, it was back at home in the quiet. The only reason that I am here right now is because of the support of my wife. My wife, who is now a psychologist, who specializes in PTSD treatment of veterans, saved my life. Her patience, her understanding, and her selfless love is why I’m here today. The most traumatic experience that I went through on the Battlefield was a navy seal stepped on a mine and we were unable to save him, when I looked in his pockets I found a picture of his three kids and his wife. I requested that I deliver the news that I was unable to save her husband and their father. To this day, I still keep in touch with her and her kids and do everything I can to be a father figure for them. The United States is so quick to send people to war, and then they cost them aside when they come back and treat them as people who are broken instead of providing help to them. What sad is the private sector in the medical field is exponentially better at providing health than the people who sent us to war. This song is a very good song and captures the hell that it is when we come home.

I hope and pray all of you who have served or have family members get above everything that you deserve as far as help, support, and are able to keep moving. If people hate America so much, find the door and gtfo. Ty for your reaction and support of those that have served or stayed with those of us that have served and come back changed.
