+Rayvethi Alagappan hahaha! Bloody hell!
Hahaha! Very Indian challenge. Good one :)
Sandhira Chetty interesting fact,South Africa has the highest Indian populations outside India
I know haha, it's crazy hey?
lol. As a white South African in Germany, I'm often asked why I'm not black. You'd think as a colonising nation they might have had some clue. It never gets old.
I feel you. I've had a British person asking me why we use British English...
its because they dont teach colonization in schools
don't they??
nope. Americans are completely oblivious that white and Indian people live in S.A. My friends didnt even know when I told them I was going
man !!! I'm feeling for a bunny chow!!
"Do you speak HINDU?"
"What religion are you, HINDI?"
Drives me up the wall every time I get those :)

When I was a teenager I met an Indian South African Muslim and he said he came from South Africa. Back then I was ignorant and kept asking where he's originally from. I had no idea South Africa had an Indian population and that they were there since the 1800s so considered themselves locals.
Its surprising that when I went to India, they didn’t even know where South Africa was. They just kept asking about the States and the UK and saying how lucky I was?
@@Jay-xn9xv my Nigerian bf doesn’t know anything about this topic either . And he is from our continent. He has no clue who lives in South Africa . In fact he didn’t know the meaning of The Big 5 either . And he is terrified of mermaids he actually believe they are real . He got extremely upset when I made the mistake to tell him my favorite movie is The little Mermaid . He still brings it up saying I have evil water spirit in me because I like that Disney movie . . In fact he doesn’t know anything about Disney and not even about Mickey Mouse ... that made me wonder about his childhood . Usually Disney is a big part of all ages childhoods ... He also beats me when he gets mad . He says he can do so because I’m a foreigner same as him in Japan , but he can’t beat a Japanese woman because of they will call police in Japan about it . Only that reason .

I'm also a south African Indian and people at school always ask me where's my dot 😳 it's so annoying
Oh no :( Just think of a stereotype for them and ask them a similar stupid question, give them a taste of their own medicine haha. Also, this is probably the worst advice I could give a student :/

In America, we have to deal with the Spanish confusion.
Please explain 😂😂😂
@@thechamp7513 people look at me and think Latino.
Yeah there was one guy who started talking to me in full blown spanish. I'm an Indian man with long hair. Luckily I had taken 4 years of Spanish in high school and could communicate the basics back to him to let him know I'm Indian... But yeah, spot on.
Being confused for Latino is insulting to me. Yes I understand to a point what is being said. However, why don’t the Indians or the Arabians confuse me? Too American?
@@cookiem9124 they think I’m black here in the US but the Spanish think I’m Mexican lol

haha I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...I know it's Hindi, that was the joke :)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip to SA!
LOL I was being sarcastic about it being Hindi not Hindu because that's a common thing I would hear from people. I always have to say "They don't speak HINDU". It's frustrating to me so I can't imagine what it must be like for you.
However, I was serious about meeting the locals in South Africa. I've tried to meet locals on every Trip because they can always tell you the best places to eat, explore etc.
Javail Myers come to my house lol

Azie chetty?
" So many languages, the only one I know is Hindu" Wahahahahaha! I lost it there. Fun vid!
Thank you!
When I tell people my dad's Indian and my mom's South African they always go "like from India Indian?!". Think I'm gonna say the feather ones next.. lol
Haha I think you'll be interested in my next video, stay tuned ;)
When will people for once stop talking bout East Indian and West Indian. Native Americans are not Indians... When an American say they Indian I'm gonna believe they from India otherwise they can call themselves Indigenous Americans or just Americans. The 2 look totally different with totally different cultures and both are not Indian.
Rae Gitano I feel you. And people just don’t seem to get it.
@@cookiem9124 Where did colonialists come with "Indian"? They just started calling Americans koelies.
I can relate on the name part. Our African names (that have strong powerful meanings btw) are always twisted and turned it hurts.
Actually, this video applies to Indians born and raised in the US as well. I get asked these Qs ALL the time. My favorite is when an Indian person asks me the "where are you from originally from"..... HELLO..... So annoying
I asked that to someone whose name derived from Vishnu. Atleast I was right after California, he said Nepal. So, things worked out well I guess.
I got so upset at my Nigerian bf last night when he was cooking food for his coworkers and I said why don’t you make some curry ? He said curry is Indian not an African dish . I said wait wait wait... please check how many Indian South Africans we have in South Africa and Indian and Malay curries are high on the list of South African dishes . He then said ...are Indians from Africa ? I said again wait wait wait they are totally South Africans . 1.5 million Indian South Africans are in South Africa and they have been there for many centuries. Please don’t hurt and insult them this way . He said please don’t try to tell this to Japanese people. He thought I’m talking crap. I’m still so upset . What do you say to people like him ???
I’m not an Indian South African, but him excluding them from our rainbow nation
made me feel so hurt and upset . That’s just not right and so hurtful . It’s same as someone trying to exclude African Americans from America isn’t it ?? No way ...
Don't but attention i'm cameroonian and french and also black.
So i feel you a bit. Your are 100% African and of course 100% south African indian. We can't rebuilt a new world. Be proud of your ancestry and you represent well this beautiful African Nation.
Nowadays a lot of afro descent don't consider themselves as African but like carribean or north African.
So as i cameroonian( african) and french. You re Part of this nation and of corse our continent.
Sandy I like you and your way of thinking. I just finished reading you comments about the terrible fires in western Cape and disgusting racial tweets from some people. ..
Sandy you are 120 % correct what you said and feel about those tweets. ..
You are my type of girls. ...he he.😅 👍.
Hope many South Africans will take your advice to heart and stop spitting and promoting hatred. ...
I am Maldivian and people think I am an Indian too just because I am brown. It sucks and I hate it. Maldivian culture is way different from Indian culture. Hell it would piss many Americans off if I call them "British" for being white 😂
Stereotypes will never die and frankly, I find them hilarious.
Ill probably never leave south africa even if they robbed me everyday for the rest of my life , ill probably get robbed typing this

I've never been robbed a day in my life. You my friend... need to move to a better province (not Western Cape).

I am South African and moved to Australia just recently, my name is Ruandi Van Der Merwe and I have the exact same problem 😂
John Ster why don't you go to South Africa and see how we live there! That is the reason why, we South africans, move to Austaralia. You can be lucky you live in such a safe place
John Ster Piss off!
John Ster voetsak
John Ster they are hated everywhere they go. There is a reason that boere are the biggest victims of crime in South Africa more than any national in that country. They should stay and own up to the karma bus, we don't need such people in our countries.
Ruandi VDM that is not what I said. My point was that those who are most target for crimes that do happen in South Africa are the boere/afrikaaner due to their antagonistic nature. They piss off people everywhere and end up paying the price in revenge attacks. And when you run away for your lives into other countries you seem to always bring along that rotten antagonistic culture that put your lives in danger in the first place.
On a scale from 1 to New Year’s Eve how noisy?
Good one,,, I’m going to use that one
The British Dutch and French had intentureship in the caribbean and its the same shit for us lol.
I am living in Auckland my mother's Half Indian and my father is more coloured his grandmother was black and his grandfather German I have to deal with a lot of race here because I am Muslim from the Cape malay (slaves) they want to take away your identity your culture and your heritage you not really South Africa because you either Indian or Muslim then you have coloured Christians and they to betray by talking negative about your people in SA
mmm..lot of change in thought one had to do. Gotta confess, had innocently asked a few Indian friends and acquaintances which part of Durban they from and perhaps even about religion. But hereon will be mindful of concerns u'd raised, though cultural curiosity still sticks in my mind hey. Nonetheless thanks for sharing "Sun dirah" haha,... nice nose ring by the way!
There's nothing wrong with cultural curiosity! Ask as many questions as you want, just don't assume things :)
And it's a beauty spot, not a nose ring!!
haha.. there I was again assuming it was a nose ring.. #Sandhiralectures..thanks
No you're Indian.
In Cape Town there used to be a place in Elsies River called Janjira's... JAN.... JEE....RA's.......... donow if dis helps! ... sorry I'm using someone elses login ... Muhammad Nizamie wtf which language is Muslim. Muslim is a follower of islam
Lol guys chill- i think he was being sarcastic as in the video there is a question as "do you speak HINDU?" HindUism is religion...and HINDI is the language
So they face more verbal outward racism but more like ignorance then actual hatred yeah
The exact some arguments can be made for white South Africans & most races not black. When can we all just call ourselves African as we are all from Africa. (South Africa is in Africa)
Omg! I loved this ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
I enjoyed this video
You have to think about how important it is to be an Indian female .... being female means you can change the path of history in terms of who she chooses or gets forced to make a new race ..... think about it .... Our Females always had the power so if you are female be proud because our lives and destiny are in your hands …. That’s why we males love you’ll so much …. We males are throw away ….
I see no problem if you say that you are a South African of an Indian origin! It's mean that your culture is a rich culture.

I love you guys, actually, I love each and every South African out there! But, I have a confession to make. When I see most people of your kind, I firstly think of Durban.
The Indian look alike girls are also beautiful!
I see you as black or Asian African, because "Indian" presents a nationality of some sort.
Most South East Asians look so much alike. For e.g. Pakistanis and Indians, but, there's no term such as "Pakistani Indian". A Pakistani is a Pakistani is a Pakistani! An Indian is an Indian
And,
A SOUTH AFRICAN is a SOUTH AFRICAN!
poor guy
poor black guy! You want a pakistani to throw you a indian looking girl? Ask one of them. I am not from Asian at all.

And appreciate black woman
@@mattroules6691 I think he can appreciate whomever he likes... Any colour as long if that person is not racist...
I hardly ever comment on videos and I know this comment is really old, but hopefully someone will read it and benefit from it.
After reading the original comment I knew there’d be the one guy in the reply section who’d say something a little ...bigoted... and I was not wrong. From what I understand I’m at a uncommon position of being half black and half Indian (my mum’s SA-Indian and my day is African American and I’m AUSTRALIAN😂) the reason I tell you guys my cultural background is because I understand there’s a lot of tension between the black and Indian community, I’m pretty young and live in a little liberal bubble so I failed to realise it until much later in my life and what
I can say is yes, SOME indian people are racist. I’ll use my family as an example, my mother is very light skinned and some of my family on my mums side joke around saying that I would look so much prettier if I had fairer skin (it’s important to say my mum always tells them off if she hears someone say it 😂), I always took it as friendly family teasing but I realised there’s some seriously harmful racial connotations implied. So I would like to say yes SOME Indian people are racist so are some black people, some white people and many more.
My point is stop assuming that because someone is of a certain race they are automatically a certain type of person and another important note I say as a mixed race baby is that STOP hating on interracial couples!! Just because someone dates outside of their race doesn’t mean they hate their own race! So cheers mate, you all are lucky to live in a country as beautiful as South Africa, much love from Sydney
Hello! Thank you for your wonderful and entertaining video. Sandhira is a beautiful name, and three syllables really is not long. :-)
The different kinds and accents of English around the world fascinate me. I am currently researching how different English cultures round the world have developed slang for the second person plural.
The "plural-you" has developed a colloquial in (so far as I can tell) nearly every English speaking culture in the world. In the southern US we say, "y'all" when referring to a group of people and "you" when referring to a single person.
Up north they like to say "Yous" or "Youse" depending on which Celtic tribe their culture emerges from. Some places they say "yinz" or even "yinzall." In California they say y'guys all in a sort of blur.
I noticed you used the California model of you'guys all in a little blur. From my research I have been led to believe that the South African Indian accent is the only accent in the world (other than the the South US) to have developed "y'all" for the second person plural.
Have you seen "y'all" being used for you-plural?
Thank you so much, and again thank you for the wonderful video!
Hi Glen
Yes, you've done your homework haha, it is incredibly common for South African Indians to use "you'll", short for "you all". It is pronounced /yawl/, which is different to the pronunciation of the American "y'all".
"You guys" is also used, but by non-Indian South Africans mostly.
Hope that helps.
Thank you for your prompt and polite reply. It is indeed helpful, and ever so fascinating to me. To my research, I am wondering how the form of the second person plural may be an indicator in cultural self-identification. It certainly behaves as one in the US, but the US is so much smaller a part of the English speaking world than far too many of my countrymen understand.
The tonal difference makes perfect sense. It couldn't have been pronounced like the southern US because that drawling short A vowel just doesn't make sense there in pretty much any accent except ours, lol. Most of the world seems to play a wind instrument with their vowels but in the US and southward we more-like pluck a banjo at em.
I will look at causation eventually (to see if it is unintentional self-identification as I imagine), but right now I'm exploring correlation, whether differences in the plural you run roughly parallel to cultural distinctions, or if there is no real correlation at all.
Here in Durban we was never look on Indians like foreigners.. Good citizens and neighbours.. looks like only black fail after apartheid
Thank you for the video! It was incredibly funny. I get the "Where are you from originally?" question all.the.time.
+Candice Cloete haha welcome to the "where are you from" club!
😂😂😂😂😂 Are you from KZN? I'm already subscribed to the channel.

hey what's up .i have one question about the cultural heritage of the Indians in South Africa. is it the same as in
India? like marriage between Indian only and the parents have to match you . one other thing : I'm African descendant from Haiti living in Canada. how is the Indian community react to the injustice and the oppression towards the native Africans. I actually like your video It is informative.Chears
It honestly depends on the family, some families are more forceful and only allow for inter racial marriage, in regards to oppression, both indians and native africans were oppressed, and didn't have time to worry about eachother really. Hope that helps x
You are preaching to the choir lady...lol..I always experience this as a black man..I was born in America,Barbadian parentage,so you can imagine the amount of racial preconceived notions I've experienced...lol
