A Tour of GUANAJUATO | My Favorite Mexican City
Oh my god, wow. I'm an Irishman, i have always been interested in Mexico, such a fascinating country. And this city, Guanajuato, the birthplace of the great Diego Rivera!. Some day i will maybe live in Mexico, so much art, history, so much colour!.
Greetings and lots of blessings to our Irish brothers. We Mexicans don’t forget your service to Mexico during the Mexican-American War! Thank you Ireland! ERIN GO BRAH!!!!!!!
Mexico is beautiful, the people are kind.......it;s so full of life.I can't wait to go back!!!!
Yes I agree, it’s a very great travel destination once you get into the real Mexico.
Guanajuato is my Mexico dream destination. I'm so glad you're there again.
I second that!!! I can't believe it's been a year-and-a-half since he was there.
The whole state is amazing, there is also San Miguel de Allende and Leon cities which I enjoyed. Nearby is also Queretaro province whose capital is one of the most beautiful Spanish cities in the entire New World.
Your welcome . When you are ready!!
@@billyblue689 It was nice to see the same places you were that Gabriel filmed. Too bad the two of you missed each other in Guanajuato.
Best video on yt
I have been to over 30 Mexican towns, and Guanajuato is one of my favorites also. My wife kept bugging me about going there, and I was always reluctant because there was no beach, and water. Boy was I wrong. This is a wonderful city!
What’s your favorite?
@@dustywagon298 Too hard to say, but I am still partial to something with a beach and nice, clear, warm water.
I am amazed at how clean the main parts of the city appear!! Love it🌺🌴
Have you been to the mummies museum?
@@yessymoreno5967 yes. Amazing.
I studied medicine in Guadalajara 50+ years ago and while there co-founded "Los Tiempos Pasados," which became the premier medieval music group in Mexico, based in Guanajuato. My dear friend Armando Lopez, the other co-founder, still lives and performs in this highly literary and cultured city, and I have traveled there many times to lecture and perform. It is immersed in a sense of learning and creativity, and takes you into a world far removed from the slick and superficial cultural trends so pervasive these days.
Los tiempos pasados is an amazing group; I had the chance to saw them performing in Guanajuato; great.
I love Mexico! This kind of reminds me of Porto 🇵🇹
I’ve been to Guanajuato city and would love to compare it to Porto, Portugal, and also try to watch a soccer game, there, vamos Tecatito!
That's funny. Porto and Guanajuato are two of my favorite cities. I never thought of them as similar, but maybe so...
Noooo.. Porto much nicer...
@@kerder8660 Is true
I think of porto as the same magic of toledo
I never heard of this city until seeing your video. Thanks for introducing me to such a beautiful place.
Guanajuato is and always will be my favorite city in the world, I was born there! Can't wait to go back and live my final years there tbh
I went this past June, It was more charming than I expected. Lovely people and the vibe of this place has something magical about it. My heart wants to be back there soon!
I love that you are highlighting cities that aren’t the popular beach towns!
Exactly, it’s great to see different aspects of Mexico!
Guanajuato is one of the most popular tourist/expat towns in Mexico...
San miguel and this place were awesome. Just fun places to be.
@@davidostrowski679 it was also the area where many italians in the 1800s settled and again in the 1930s. Very italiany feel.
@@theodoresmith5272 I went to San Miguel in 2019 and thought it was awesome!
I miss Mexico, I wish I was there now.
You're an american so beautiful.
Please you come to Mexico it's a great experience to walk for its streets.
Wonderful place...we stayed in the top room of a small hotel with windows for the view and an upper terrace to sit on. It was around Dia de Independencia and a tiny girls voice rang out "viva mexico, viva!" Such a happy memory. We enjoyed the mummy museum and seeing the historic gardens of a mine owner ...garden rooms themed, an Italian garden, etc etc so beautiful and not to be missed!
Old part of the city with narrow coble stone streets looks so Mediterranean! Impressive!
Yes....Very Moorish!!!
agree. except of those AMAZING colors of those houses.
Those tunnels had nothing to do with silver mining. They were constructed to divert rain water under the city to prevent the devastating floods which would periodically destroy the city.
Thanks. I guess they were carved out during the mining days but as you said, for water drainage.
They kind of were to do with silver mining actually, in that, when the work was drying up in the actual mines, the workers were redeployed in the city to work on roading. So the two are linked (slightly) 😬
@@GabrielTravelerVideos hey, how come a nicaraguens to guanajuatooo?🇭🇳
@@GabrielTravelerVideos There were subterranean streams that were widened and strengthened to support the weight of the buildings at surface level, and with the advent of automobiles were filled in to create a solution for the ever=increasing amount of traffic in the narrow streets.
You’re right sir and fortunately we also have mines if tourists want to visit.
I was born and raised in that city just wanna thank you to say good words about it
when we can start travelling, i would love to visit this city, again just love Mexico
What a beautiful town.... love the historical Mexican buildings...safe travels, 🙏💕
Love the variety of different colour of the buildings and houses.
In Southern AZ...such as in Nogales, Douglas, Bisbee you see the same colorful homes....
The tree landscaping in Mexico is stunning. Best I've seen anywhere.
You are my favourite blogger,so genuine , sensitive and honest!!!I'm traveling with you always...
Waiting for 1 million subs
He's my favorite for the same reasons! Perfectly said.
Thanks for the tour of GuanaJuato. What a magical city. Loved the VW Bugs Gabriel. 😊
Beautiful. Reminds me of the charm of Querétaro.
Queretaro is amazing, many charming cities in Mexico.
Guanajuato is a magical city! One of my favorite ones in México
From the Mummy Mueseum to the views of the city I absolutely love this place too. It was the first city I visited in Mexico, and one I will always recommend. Enjoy your trip!
This is a gorgeous city, totally agree with you. It must have been very rich in the past due to the gold mines. Lots of great architecture. Thanks for the upload ✌️👍
*Silver mines.
@@santana898989 both of them
Excellent! Looks like a great city to visit. It reminds me of Andalucia Espana!
I forgot to mention the caves that make a city like no other!
Mexico was in the past...the new Spain
Arcos de la frontera for example except Andalucía towns are white.
“España” boi
I really enjoyed this travel vlog... you are in the city in the mountains! Bless you with peace and wisdom!
Gabriel, you give me hope and optimism, covid or no covid, you still going strong and nothing stops you from travelling.
Don't let covid take over your life. It's being blown out of all proportion by corrupt governments and disgraceful fearmongering media ✌🏽
Guanajuato is definitely one of my favorites in Mexico too! I was there for the first time several months ago and surprised by how cool it was. I'm looking forward to seeing where in Mexico You'll be next. I'm in Puerto Vallarta now, came for a week, back to Guadalajara Friday.
The people in this city seem to be the happiest I have found in Mexico. Everyone seemed happy when I was walking around. When you said "Hola Senór" it reminds me that my Spanish is poor because I just keep saying hola.
I'm glad you're back in Mexico!
Love this content man. Mexico is beautiful.
Geez, those residents must be fit walking up and down the hills each day! Some streets not very wide for cars at all.
The joke in Guanajuato is everyone has good legs and good memory because all of the stairs. Once you forget something a few times you'll remember.
And all of that is what makes it more unique
And the ladies 😉😍
Haha! We were walking up the most killer steps I've ever seen there one day trying not to die. Got passed by a grandma carrying groceries. 🥵
That's been our favorite, too! The vibe from the instant we got there, great food, people, beautiful colors everywhere. You think you're in shape until you start walking around, though! Holy steps!
Hola Gabriel 🖐 I bet you find that anywhere in Mexico the people are so friendly and happy music everywhere! Food is always outstanding and history is amazing. My daughter is in Tulummmm this Thanksgiving and is loving it! She lives in San Diego and is lucky enough to travel all over Meheco at any given time. Enjoy your Thanksgiving🦃🍁🍂and continue to have a great time in the sunshine. Adios mi amigo until next time. ✌
A nice surprise, Gabriel ...
After Turkey we go on traveling with you through Mexico..
It s unbelievable to see you "covering" sooo many countries, especially now, when most of us are going through all sort of restrictions, lockdowns, curfews..
Stay safe , healthy and GBY..
Best wishes from Paris 🖐🖐
It's like walking through a spanish town. Very beatiful indeed!!!
Thanks, Gabriel! What a beautiful city and country! The atmosphere seems much happier than that of the Adriatic and Balkan countries.
Certainly is
Maybe because of the sun the whole year
Mexico is a nice country and people are so nice
My friend you're back in good old Mexico It's time for yo make popcorn and watch ur videos
Enjoy. :)
Great tour Gabriel. Now I'm eager to visit Guanajuanto when I'm able.
23:57 I use to play in that plaza, saturdays and sudays morning! I love Guanajuato!
This city looks like a city that we have here in Brazil, called Olinda. Really amazing and colorful 😍
I checked it out, looks nice.

Ahhh I used to live there, but in the non air bnb apartments ♥️ lovely property, lovely landlords... I miss it so much, it was my home during a beautiful time in my life. I loved your video from the start of it.
Desde india mucho gusto y placer ..me gusta mexico y guanajato
Always enjoy your random street scenes videos, seeing the architecture, vendors, cafes, churches, parks.
Beautiful colorful houses , nice architecture, interesting tunel, nice suvenirs, statues🌳Quixote and Sancho Panza🎠Gabe , thanks,🌞🥰it is a pleasure to watch your travels🌞as if we were traveling with you😊
Agree or disagree: High elevation central Mexico is the best part of Mexico, not the coasts?
Agree, the air is cooler and more refreshing than the coastal areas and there's so much history in the cities, some beautiful natural mountain areas too.
@@patrickw123I'm a local from guanajuato, and no, is not cooler, actually when I wrote this i wear only a shirt and it feel the weather a little warm.
@@cisgto But at night, is it cooler than the coast? I have only been in the mountains of Michoacan and Jalisco
Idk man. In terms of colonial towns, certainly. In terms of food, northern Mexico takes the cake. In terms of nature, southern and southeast Mexico. Mexico has a lot to offer.
I like chiapas too.
I love Guanajuato! Fabulous video. Thany you.
I remember when you were there last time. It looks really nice.
Loving the Mexico trip !
This is the first time I am seeing Guanajuato since I lived there 1998-1999! Fantastic video, but you missed the main landmark, the University of Guanajuato located in the city center
Welcome to méxico. All people of the world are welcome to my country🇲🇽❤

Very clean place and the vibe seems good. Nice terrain outside town.
Good to see you are back there. I lived there in the nineties. It is such a special place. I'm glad you enjoy the city too Gabriel. Thanks for sharing once again. I can't wait to return. My last visit was in 2014. Cheers.
Finally I find myself travelling in the same part of the world😉
I was really excited when the notification popped up and I saw you're now in Mexico too.

Gabriel, let's go on an adventure in Mexico!
So glad I watched this. Thank you for the virtual vacation. I love the artistry, the obvious pride they have in their community and it seems they are very friendly. Just beautiful.
Beautiful. Can't wait to travel again. Thanks for sharing.
I really like the traditional style of the room, it's very cozy. Great find!
The music is just on point :D
The one inside the church sounded creepy.😁
The first time I went here was in 1957 when I was 10 years old. Both my parents were from here. I did not go again until I was married in 1971 to visit my grandmother .She lived in the nearby town of Santa Rosa .The third time I went was 2009 and was a spur of the moment trip. What made me go was a photo of a couple on a park bench in one of the parks downtown. The photo was in a travel magazine and right away I got the urge to go there. It was a really great ten days.
I just rode your coattails back to 1957, nice little story.
He visitado muchas veces Guanajuato y realmente no me canso de ir y admirar la arquitectura colonial junto a su gran historia que la acompaña, simplemente hermoso :)
@7:10. The $ actually comes from the peso (ps) symbol, “S” with two vertical lines over it. It’s believed that it was first adopted in the 1800s by English-American in doing business with Spanish-American. In the late 1700s the peso was very powerful currency
Thanks for this video Gabe!
I am proud to be ftom Guanajuato. Born in San Miguel de Allende and lived in Dolores Hidalgo.
you really love this city
Gabriel: gracias por difundir mi ciudad, mi hermoso terruño. Aun falta mucho por conocer de esta ciudad, cuando regreses me encantaría orientarte sobre algunos sitios que te maravillarán. Saludos!
Love your videos brother!! Keep them coming!!! Much love 😁
31:46 "Another fountain with no water." Those date back to the 19th century. They were drinking fountains used for watering the horses that used to walk the streets of Guanajuato in great numbers. Some of them even pulled trolleys! Your video brought back memories of when I lived in Guanajuato. I still have friends in the Cerro de los Leones neighborhood where you stayed.
amazing great! beautiful city.
a wonderful city indeed. So much character! Thanks for sharing
Mask up, when anywhere, annoying as it might in fact, be! I hate wearing them too, but they and keeping one's distances, are two great ways of keeping COVID at bay.
I can wear Mom jeans & tell tired Dad jokes, too! ...keep your fear level down commie

The $ was used in Mexico first so technically you guys use the same $ we use for the peso, not the other way around. Lol

This is in my bucket list ...thank you for sharing...
Gabriel, Guanajuato is beautiful, I loved the church, the streets of Guanajuato remains me , europe, specially , Spain, portugal,n others.
Enjoy and be safe.
Hey Gabriel, Im from Dolores Hidalgo (45 minutes away from GTO City) I studied at the school of mines in the University of Guanajuato and I just wanted to say that all the tunnels in the city were made to divert floods (they still flood because historically it was the main river in the city) and to be used as vehicle roads (tunnels) to move around the city; none were excavated for mining use. Glad you love the city though, living there for many years sure was an awesome experience. Hopefully you’ll go back! Saludos!
Great, thanks for the info.
What a gorgeous place!
Thanks for the great video, I'm from Guanajuato, It was awesome to see my hometown again thanks so so much.
Have always loved visiting in Mexico. The 6,600 ft. elevation can make hill climbing a challenge. Hope to be in San Miguel de Allende in 2021 so probably should drop by here too. I love the colors, music, and the nice people.
Work took me to Silao to finish up a project and we spent an evening in Guanajuato. It was a complete surprise, by far one of the coolest places i've ever been.
Nice video, the way you show the city is very accurate, it makes me wanted to go there, cheers!!!
It's my favorite city in Mexico as well. Fly into CDMX and drive to Pena de Bernal, Tequisquiapan, Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende and end the trip in Guanojuato. It's a fabulous trip which I've done a couple times.
wow! this city with the colorful houses looks amazing! i love those streets on the hills. awesome video!
I drove here from San Luis Potosi with my sister like 20 years ago. She was living there, I was living in Vallarta. Took bus to San Luis. Rented a buggy vroom vroom, cowboy movie Mexico, then this jewel. Mexico has magnificent vistas and the best street food in the world. I want some elotes watching this.
