Wow - that city looks so awesome. I love the maze of alleys and the church bells ringing . It looks so pedestrian friendly. Thanks for introducing me to this place. I'd love to go there.
It gets a bad rap for a reason, the stats don't lie. But as a tourist it is highly unlikely you will run into any problems. The vast majority of violence is in northern Mexico near the border, which has really nothing to see for tourists anyways. I've traveled all over southern and central Mexico, which is one of the beautiful and safest parts of the country. Never had a single issue.
it's gonna get worse. The new Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO,)is slowly lessening Mexico's dependency on the US, and the US is not happy.
if you add the 75,000 black girls that are missing, the number of kidnappings and murders in the US would be much higher than reported. If you add the number of the real American, the natives, then the number of kidnappings and murderers would be even higher than reported. In the USA, cops kidnap black and brown people to fill those prisons for profit. US obere patrol killing migrants and putting them in mass graves, "stand you ground" laws that allow people to kill other people and not be counted as homicide.....The stats presenetd by the US are way off.
@@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath it does not get a 'bad rap for a reason'....or rather, sure, it's for a reason, but a bad reason. the point is not that Mexico has no issues, it's that Mexico's issues are overblown and unfairly exaggerated compared to how American (USA) issues, for example, are minimized.
I was in the middle of watching another video when I got this alert and bam here I am to see my favorite travel RUclipsr show me around another part of Mexico I never knew existed✌🏽
9:32 The University of Guanajuato. What a beautiful building. The state of Guanajuato is full of history. Dolores Hidalgo is another city located in same state and is known as the cradle of the Mexican independence. San Miguel de Allende like you said it’s a well know place where thousands of US citizens and Canadians live. Make sure you go to the church there in SMA. Don’t forget to go to mummies, valenciana mine, alhóndiga de granaditas, callejón del beso....endless places to visit there. Those tunnels were built to contain and divert overflows during the rainy season. BTW Guanajuato city is a UNESCO heritage city. Well, I guess your video kinda explains why. What an amazing city. Been there 2 times and I want to go back. Thanks for sharing Gabe.
Wow! This place is gorgeous! I’ll have to add this to my very long short list of places to go. I’m loving this series because as a Californian, Mexico is so close. In one way it’s familiar, but it’s so diverse, there’s a lot to learn.
I like that city and looks much more interesting than the beach towns. It reminds of Italy and Spain in some ways with the narrow alleys. Very interesting and cool town
I am Mexican and you are 100% correct. Many international tourists only go to the popular beach cities...but Mexico's biggest cities (Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla) are all inland. Mexico has many beautiful small towns.
There are 11 world heritage cities in Mexico that look similar to Guanajuato, plus 121 little towns all over Mexico call Pueblos Magicos, all of them with spanish/europian architecture
Wonderful video, Gabriel! I’ve never seen all of the streets so empty of cars. It must’ve been a very big holiday. It certainly gave you a great opportunity to tour the city. I love how at the precise moment you say wandering @10:02 , you nearly miss walking into the most picturesque and touristy street in the city. Instead you carry-on a parallel street that eventually brings you to Los Angeles plaza, where it becomes evident that the city had gotten into your heart.
Love, love, love your videos, especially this one !!! I'm glad to see that you finally made it to my home state of Guanajuato. In answer to your question about the Shakespearean looking costumes: They are part of a band of musicians called Estudiantinas that play classical music. At night they are part of Rinconeadas that I highly recommend you join. It's a wonderful experience !! The starting point is normally at Plaza La Union right in front of Teatro Juarez. Enjoy !!!
Hi Gabriel! Absolutely awesome!! What a beautiful city.. You could go on for miles here, and your lunch looked amazing. You didn't tell us the price.😂 I wish this video had lasted at least an hour.. Loved all of it.. Happy Easter!! 🐰🐥😄🐥🐰 and I bid you peace!
Gabriel you're almost at 300,000 subscribers very cool and well deserved. You always show the authentic side of wherever you visit and i love it. Congratulations on your success.
Excellent video quality! Very sharp and easy on the eyes as far as detecting details. Man those alleyways looked like a Jason Bourne chase waiting to happen! Good stuff!
Very much enjoyed how this video depicts a real and authentic Mexican town because we all so often think of places like Mexico as only Cancun or some similar exotic beach location and sometimes we forget there are just regular wonderful people living their lives!
The City was crowded because of the Semana Santa (Easter season) ,every body is taking vacations in Mexico, Guanajuato is full of tourists., is a very affordable place were lots of students live .
Hi Gabriel, There's no doubt Mexico, has a distinctive flavor to it with many different blends of attraction and surprises. A blend of the old world and new world.
Yes, but the older buildings were built by the Spanish, so they appear very European. They look exactly like in Spain. But of course that's only one small part of the cities in Mexico, it's just one influence on the country and culture. There are many different influences.
Guanajuato city is the capital of the state with same name, it's really packed of tourists all the time specially in Semana Sanata and october for The International Festival El Cervantino. It's also one of the most visited cities from all Mexico, for it's history and architecture, museums, haciendas and gold/silver mines. It's less than an hour away of San Miguel Allende, both world herritage cities within the same satate, and León, Gto one of the biggest cities of Mexico.
Thank you man for visiting my bordtown made me cry those streets tha i used to walk went i was little its a nice video and people and the enchiladas mineras are my favorite thank you for sharing, God be with you
It's so great to be able to wander through those beautiful gems of places very few guidebooks mention through your eyes and your comments. This one is priceless 🙏🙏🙏!
Excellent Gabe. I'm so glad you made it there. A great place to eat is just to the left of the Mercado Hidalgo outside. There are Fondas where women wave their hands trying to get people to eat. You can have enchilada mineras with carne asada, fresh salsa and a drink for a mere $2 or $3. Thanks for your efforts. Cheers amigo.
I just imagine in some of these tight streets the locals come out and are wondering why a tourist is walking around their back alley xD They probably think you are lost or something, but the best way to see a place is doing this :D
This city gives a very positive impression of Mexico.

This is one of Mexico's magical pueblas. There are a lot of small towns like this deep in the interior of Mexico. Morelia is nice too, I went to that one back in 2013.
Gabriel, you still in Guanajuato (The Capital) ? If yes, try the Callejoneadas, It's some types of shows at night, just ask for them. You can go to the Monumento al Pípila, it has a great view.
San Miguel de Ayende is another area of interest in state of Guanajuato. It’s a smaller town but full of charm. Kind of upscale. Less crowded than Guanajuato.
Excellent photography Gabriel! I find it odd, however, that you don't take the time to read a few pages of background on Lonely Planet or other guides for the places you visit. Lots of excellent historic sites you walked past that people would have found interesting. The tunnels are to prevent flooding as happened many years ago and ruined most of the city. The famous Los Momias are a must see. I am also stunned that you rarely attempt to make contact with local residents, or frankly, anyone. Taking buses in Mexico is a must! You meet tons of interesting people and the little stops along the way are fabulous. Silver mining was the original reason for Guanajuato, lots of good craftsmanship and you can talk with interesting artisans.
Hi Bruce, not sure how many of my videos you've seen. I usually make several videos of a place. Often when I first arrive in a city I make an initial "first impressions" video just walking around and checking things out. Then I do some more research and incorporate more info into the other videos as I learn more. Some of my videos are pretty info packed, others aren't. As someone making videos and posting them to youtube almost every day, I don't have huge amounts of time for doing advanced research for every place I visit. I'm always playing catch up with the video editing. So I generally start learning about where I am once I arrive, rather than doing a lot of research beforehand. As for talking with people, if you check out more of my videos you'll see various interactions with locals and also fellow travelers including people I've traveled with. A lot of my conversations with people don't end up on video, because I don't want to be filming everything that happens, and it's particularly awkward pointing a camera at people while talking with them. I still do it sometimes, but not a lot of the time. I have another video discussing that specifically: ruclips.net/video/TfqfUOW7CsA/видео.html
As you visit San Miguel a few points of interest is the beautiful Sanctuary of Atotonilco, the many natural hot springs and Mama Mia's restaurant. Good food and music :)
You should also go to dolores hidalgo and Querétaro . You can grab a bus from san miguel de allende to these cities and come back at the end of the day.

Also, check out the swanky rooftop cocktail bar in the Casa del Rector Hotel and then the dive mezcal/ pulque barl almost across the street from the Casa Rivera. Enjoy! (And add Puebla and Cholula to your list for gorgeous colonial buildings - it is an easy bus trip to CDMX and then Puebla).
