The idea of 'million to one shots working out nine times out of ten' being made into a mechanic of the game is *genius*.
I'm a little disappointed that they don't have to roll a D10 for this, but that's just me being a pedantic nerd.

'ang on! Igorina's don't do the lithp! That's only Igor's and it's optional with them (tribal pride, donchaknow)! (and neither should have an apostrophe! what am I doing?!) Source: off the top of my head it's mentioned and shown in Thief of Time and Making Money, just to name 2, because I just happened to re-read them.
Andy was so quick on the misheard phrases by the bar owner. Superb roleplaying as always. Never disappoints.
Mike's "laws are more of a guide line" applying to laws of physics is such a Discworld thing. I love it. And I really hope to see more of Ankh-Morpork city watch adventures in the future 🤩

I know johnny is a discworld fan but this clearly shows that jane is too. Instantly knowing the igors speech patterns
The lisp started up and I went straight to hog heaven.
The artist didn't know the lore though. Igorinas are supposed to be beautiful with just a single scar somewhere to advertise their lineage. Not a patchwork like the blokes.
@@rustumlaattoeor it was the one from monstrous regiment. It was a whole platoon of women disguised as man in the army. Wich includes a igor(ina) vampire troll and some humans.
@@wimfranken826 But that Igorina is disguised as a man. In Jane's Igorina's picture they are not disguised. It's a minor thing really. I was just humble bragging about my Pratchett knowledge.
Jackrum is one of my favourite characters. I based a DnD fighter on them. Campaign died out and no one ever found out their secret.

I'm only 15 minutes in and I can already see that all of this crew have a love and appreciation of Discworld, it's lore, it's silliness and it's rules (guidelines) of logic. This is going to be a lot of fun
This is such a perfect TTRPG depiction of a City Watch novel! We start off with a simple theft investigation and end with Igorinas chasing culprits on a bridge with a time bomb defused by a dwarf forensic photographer while a guilt-stricken troll looks down the Ankh as a zombie does a dive-bomb with a... well, a bomb!
Definitely would watch this as an ongoing series, Andy is an amazing DM, and good to see Johnny being a player for once!
I hope you can do a few more of these in the future. Jane catching a running gag of being coated in stuff and it actually working out in her favor was amazing, as well as Mike bending the laws of physics.

IIRC they weren't ALL called Emma in the books, but a joke turning into a common phrase turning into something actually real and tangible is pure Discworld. Love it.

god the comments here are so much better than the ones on the actual play on modiphius' own channel which has people trying to gatekeep pratchett/discworld of all things as if they didn't learn a goddamn thing from the books. (the actual play itself is good though)
Had to turn off that other vid after fifteen mins - it just did not work for me [each to ther own]. This vid [so far as I still watching] seems much better!

This was amazing!! This lovable team of dorky watch officers really captured the essence and humour usually associated with a Terry Pratchett story ❤ so many great moments - Johnny’s diamond sharp smile and Mike pulling off a “Death becomes her” move with the head rolling was just the icing on the cake 😂
Can they make this a series? This was one of the best and funniest D&D campaigns I've ever seen them do

I agree! I've always felt that the Oxventurer's Guild was basically in a Pratchett-esque world. While I have been enjoying the new campaign, a return to this setting from time to time, like the Oxventure in Space episodes would be amazing.

I can proudly say that I knew about this hours before it posted, because I listen the the amazing OXVenture podcast every week!
Everyone's character work was so good, but Andy's NPCs were astounding!
As a huge Pratchett fan and a follower of both Oxventure and NRB I feel like I might have accidentally cosmic-ordered this crossover.
I remember being a tiny little 9yo coming across the Discworld ps1 game at a blockbuster. Lacking any particular context for the discworld novels i took the disc as a metaphor for the game disc (ReBoot was out then, i'm not weird) and that it was making jokes about video games and such. A couple years later i came across the books to my surprise.
Very excited for this show.
I remember my sister telling that when she was in school and had to do a book review & read it in class, the boys in the class thought the book is about ice hockey (Discworld Finnish translation is "Kiekkomaailma" which you could back-translate as "Puckworld"). I just think it's amusing that the hockey-kids were disappointed to find out that it's actually a fantasy novel serie.
I'm still annoyed about the solution to the problem in the docks in DW2 being to paint an extra 0 on the weight to make it heavier

Never heard of Discworld before now, but this makes me want to start reading it.
Please do, but it must be stressed DONT start with the colour of magic or light fantastic, my recommendation would be guards guards although others will have other recommendations
I am insanely jealous of someone getting to read discworld for the very first time.
Do it. But find a new reader guide so that you can pick an arc that better matches your tastes. You can expand from there.
Absolutely worth it. I love death in the discworld novels, Hogfarther is one of my favourites

Oxventure, Terry Pratchett's Diskworld, and its my birthday! What luck. This was fantastic, you are all so good at creating interesting and entertaining characters. The game mechanics seem fun too.

I like the little book references scattered throughout (e.g., in Cliff's stats at 16:40) :) It's not necessary to "get" them to enjoy the game, but it shows a lot of love for the source material.
Every time I hear the name of a character I recognise from the books, I get a little more excited. I know how hard Discworld fans are to please (some older fans are very keen on gatekeeping their idea of Discworld and dislike any deviation from the books as written) but so far it seems like a really great game, very lovingly made.
I think the travesty that was the watch TV series might be to blame for a lot of the gatekeeping
@@jonharvey6277 The gatekeeping predates that unmitigated car crash. There are fans who dislike the Sky adaptations because David Jason was “too old” to play Rincewind, and dislike the changes made to Going Postal for filming, even though Terry himself must’ve signed off on them and had cameos in both. I’ve also seen fans (usually ones who’ve been around since the beginning) wholesale disown the last few books in the series for not feeling like Pratchett’s writing. You just can’t please some people.

All of these people are wonderful, but Johnny is an absolute treasure.

What an awesome system for narrative-driven roleplay, and paired with the perfect world to allow for all sorts of shenanigans. Mike bending the laws of physics absolutely killed me.

Yes, more please, i love the discworld setting. The voices where really great. The highlight for me was Mike rolling with his head towards his body. Gone have to watch the 2 movies now and maybe read some of the books.
As someone who loves to DM settings in Discworld themselves I can't wait to see this.

I have been a Discworld and Sir Pratchett fan for 40 years, and I find this utterly delightful. They have succeeded in mining a vein of Narrativium, and refined it into a wonderful tool. And to be acted so lovingly by our dear friends…it makes my heart glad yet ache for STP.
Great job, you all have to be discworld fans as you all got into the tone of Terry's storytelling. I do hope to see more of this!

This game truly follows the madness of discworld. Played with fans of the books I think it would be a great game to be a part of!

Although its modiphius (which has had an ify track record with a lot of IP's I love) I am beyond excited for this. May the Great A'Tuin swim smoothly through space and try not to get struck by lightning by Offler.
Edit: Happy to see they made a die system that fits the game and ip instead of trying to fit the game into the die system from Corvus Belli like they used to do all the time.

Loving this, takes me right back to Discworld and the surly streets of Ankh-Morpork, Some of these game mechanics are great fun and remind me of playing Goblin Errands, looking forward to hearing more about this game.

Never Seen these guys before but I'm a massive fan of Terry Pratchett and Discworld, and I can confirm this felt almost exactly like a side story in a Guards Discworld novel! I don't know if the players are Discworld fans but they did really well, I hope they had fun with the system because I had such fun watching this!
