Discworld as a book series is perhaps the most richly written and creative fantasy series out there, it just happens to also be very silly and satirical so people don't expect the one two punch of it actually being pretty smart at times. It's like having the fun uncle tell you a story and you only realize after the story's over that it actually had some profundity and insight to it despite it having a baudy limerick or two.
It's also incredibly samey in it's tone and jokes. I've read two books and liked them, and the third was exactly the same so i put it down. Way too repetitious for my liking. Pretty much the same reason i cant be bothered with HHGG2+, althought Dirk Gently i find is a particularly good book.

Considering the plot is about making Death popular it’s probably a good idea to bring up how Death is actually a very popular character. He’s been the main character in a few of the books and people in real life will frequently mention that when they die they hope this Death will be the one to welcome them. Rincewind: "Do you know how to find any elves?" Woman: "I have no idea. Why don't you ask the elves?" Rincewind: *pauses* "Now I'm going to ask you that question again very very carefully..."
This would be a perfect hint if the player could see the elf they wanted to get to & the solution was to click the path for the main character to walk some absered & impossible path to the elf.
The Witch with the "I Aren't Dead" sign is Granny Weatherwax, one of the three Wyrd Sisters from the books. Also, in another Discworld nod the whole Clickers storyline in the game is a hod to the book "Moving Pictures."
I mean, that death is gone with Windle Poons is the entire plot of "Reaper Man". Both of the Discworld games are an amalgamation of many Discworld books!

Fun fact about Nigel Planar, he not only also played as a wizard in the Hogfather film adaptation, but he also narrated many of the Discworld audio books.
His narrations are excellent and while I understand Narrativium, the company created by Sir Terry Pratchett to look after his works, wanting to redo the audiobooks due to the quality of earlier ones being rather scratchy at times, I think the recordings by Nigel Planer and Steven Briggs are the best. Aaaah i remember renting this from my local library back in the day! They completely mangled the box, cut it apart and stuffed it in some cheap plastic casette looking like one of those early vcr boxes from the 80's (like really thin and flimsy with extremely sharp ridges). Ended up finding a box-less copy with the manual for €0,50 at a flea market so i'm happy! Fond memories indeed!
@bulkvanderhuge9006 To be honest, it was the release of Discworld 1 that led me to buy my first PlayStation, because my hopes of getting it for my Commodore Amiga were dashed.
Ah what a wonderful way to end the week! Great video Mitch, and what a strange game this was! I especially loved how your little edits and jokes made this even funnier 😂 Nostalgic with a side of laughs? Yes please! ❤
I know, right? The most powerful spell in existence had to fight him, just to go to one spot for a minute. Rincewind is the personification of „I mind my own business only“ and self preservation.
Problem with the last two videos, is I still plan to play both games xD. Always a pleasure thought, thanks for making this (will watch these after I finally finish both games)
I remember playing the first Discworld, which did indeed suffer by comparison quality-wise as depicted at 37:15. BUUUUT, it had the distinction of including a voice performance by _Doctor Who's_ Jon Pertwee, shortly before his death.
This is a lovely treat! I've loved the Discworld for decades and listen to the audiobooks regularly yet have only recently begun to play the first two games online; they're superb!
A Discworld game starring Eric Idle!? Shut up and take my mon-oh, wait, I have Discworld Noir, don't I...? Well, better start searching then, hadn't I?
It's got kind of a hanna barbera feel to it... those were the days... You should try toren's passage, I could go for some slugetti with peatmoss and square root pie...
Hell yeah, the guy voicing the beekeeper has done at least a couple Discworld audiobooks. And they have Nigel Planar, Niel from TYO and also someone who narrated some Discworld audiobooks. 20:28 Yet another audiobook narrator. Did a very god Vetinari and Vimes, iirc, he read Night Watch. Dibbler sounds like Rob Brydon.
I remember having a demo disc with this on it and i always wanted the game so bad that id play it over and over. It was the part where you have to be declared dead. Love your channel
I remember playing this game when I was very young and could never find it again! The scene that always stuck out in my mind is trying to convince the Mortician that you're actually dead so you can escape the city walls (I got stuck on that as a 3 year old) lmao
Speaking of Rincewind, "Interesting Times" is a good one :) Though personally I prefer the Lancre cast and setting generally ("Witches Abroad" is a favorite), there are so many books that I could find at least one of every sub-setting which I enjoy. Yes, the first few books are slow going, but it picks up after a few when Pratchett hits his stride, and everything gets immensely better (for anyone just starting to read them, and attempting to go in order).
I only have and read a handful of books from Discword....my personal fav is Hogfather. Was exposed to the mini series. Also not easy finding a good hardback of any of the Discworld in my home country...thou been lucky with some from other authors.
Me too, except it was the first one, we'd keep coming back to it, maybe make a tiny bit of progress and then shelve it for a while until we eventually gave up and got a guide. we got a fair way through it on our own over what feels like several years

"Monty Python-esque?" Shame on you, "Terry Pratchett-esque!"
Well, to be fair, Eric Idle does one of the voices.
Plus the game literally lifts a couple of scenes from the Python movies. Even has an apology to the studio 😂
@@MitchManix I bought my first computer game back in 1984, for my Commodore 64, and I'm embarrassed to say that I never knew this game existed,
@bulkvanderhuge9006 To be honest, it was the release of Discworld 1 that led me to buy my first PlayStation, because my hopes of getting it for my Commodore Amiga were dashed.
it's "Pratchettian"
I didn't remember there being so many Goon Show references in that game...
1:44 ah yes only a few seconds in and i see an orangutan. 11/10 game of the year.
I had this on my PlayStation as a kid, fell in love with Eric Idol, all that jazz
Ah what a wonderful way to end the week! Great video Mitch, and what a strange game this was! I especially loved how your little edits and jokes made this even funnier 😂 Nostalgic with a side of laughs? Yes please! ❤
Loved this game when it first released. Discworld noir was an absolute banger as well.
This is the type of stuff I'm here for. Well done!
I appriciate this video on a deeply personal lvl for various reasons. Thank you Mitch.
Making a comment, giving a like.
Rincewind going TOWARD a bomb? RINCEWIND??!! lol
I know, right? The most powerful spell in existence had to fight him, just to go to one spot for a minute. Rincewind is the personification of „I mind my own business only“ and self preservation.
@@marcushenderson5971such a coward he comes out a hero on the other side lol
20:42 I swear this voice actor is the guy who voices the old man from Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids?? 😩🤣 that laugh is burned in my brain
As a Discworld fan I 've played "Discworld", this and even "Discworld Noir". Beware the Elver Sign! Classic stuff.
Got a playstation for Xmas in 97 with Tomb Raider and this.
A Discworld game starring Eric Idle!? Shut up and take my mon-oh, wait, I have Discworld Noir, don't I...? Well, better start searching then, hadn't I?
He voiced Rincwind in two games.
@@poppers7317 I gathered that from his little misadventure! Rincewind sure has a lot of those...
The only point and click adventure game where the absolutely unhinged solutions to puzzles are actually quite justified.
"The Funniest Adventure Game You’ve Never Played"
Jokes on you, I played it. (Playstation version, with the mouse)
Loved playing these back in the day i had all 3 Discworld Games.
The music just sent a shiver of nostalgia down my spine
Absolutely adored this game, I still quote it on the regular 'ouch my back, my aching back' 'that looks nice, can I have it then' 'popping hummus' etc
I clicked subscribe when Monty Python's God told me to. LMFAO!!
I do enjoy the amount of jokes you added in.
Did you just miss that the opening is a parody of the lethal weapon 3 opening?
I can see you had A LOT of fun making this one.
This was awesome. Didn't skip a single second. :D
I still dont know when it is Mitch and when the games is speaking.
I only have and read a handful of books from Discword....my personal fav is Hogfather. Was exposed to the mini series. Also not easy finding a good hardback of any of the Discworld in my home country...thou been lucky with some from other authors.
40:43 to quote another great RUclipsr with a reoccurring joke…
“No Python” *electrical zap*
Didn't expect a "young ones" reference lol
A wizard walking drunk with an orangutan stumbling into a bomb. Say no more! This game got my attention
"Anyway who is Debbie? And what exactly did she do on the Discworld?"
Rincewind is sometimes delightfully clueless.
me and my brother bonded just trying to figure out some of the moon logic in this game. it holds a place in my heart just for that
Aww that's lovely 😊
Me too, except it was the first one, we'd keep coming back to it, maybe make a tiny bit of progress and then shelve it for a while until we eventually gave up and got a guide. we got a fair way through it on our own over what feels like several years
this game was... so amazing iv been playing it and honestly its just PEAK
Been a fan of the young ones and Neil for far too long but this is the first I heard that Nigel Planer ever did any videogame voice work!
Played , loved it ....... oh my god on hindsight.... I sure did not noticed half the jokes as a kid 😂😂😂 thanks for this
