Awesome Nic. I will be doing Harare and the eastern side of Zim between 7th and 16th. Will be visiting Chimanimani also! Would be really good if we can hook up for a Lekka steak - my treat. Travel safe mate.
@@raymondchikuku1809 I hope you mean Nick. I am not going to zip line. Too scared of heights. 😂😂 if I manage to meet with Nick then we can make him do it 😂

I have been lucky enough to visit Hwange a number of times over the last 25 years and love it there - albeit Sinamatella is now falling heavily into disrepair. The area around main camp is usually the best for game viewing - and would have been nice to see more of this area. Makwa pan and The kennedy’s are usually good areas and my favourite Ngweshla is stunning. Herds of Sable, lots of Roan and usually see lion as well.
Always watch u on TV but can only subscribe on my tablet so just have, love your videos, was born chingola Zambia 1954 left 1973 to come to UK, hoping to travel across Africa in about three years when hubby retires, cannot wait, used to love Sinamatela but was told it was gone now ☹️☹️😫 we stayed in cottages there and yes, the view is amazing because you are high up
Yip the camp is completely destroyed. Ended up not including the footage to avoid getting into political discussions about the management of the camp and park
Hwange is a special place and worth exploring. So sad the facilities are not great but the staff do the best they can to make you welcome. Stayed 3 nights at Deteema dam and 3 at Mandavu during 2019. Hwange is expensive but we loved the experience. Thanks Nick for the information. Hope to go there again soon.
expensive in comparison to which park, may I ask? I think in Botswana the prices are higher, the local are unfriendly and the ranger are not bothered when you get lost.
*Are the prices Nick quoted in US$? If so, thats flipping expensive imo. I wouldnt pay that in CAD$ which is where I live. My old man was one of the guys who made the original two track paved roads in Wankey, many many moons ago. He was born in Livingstone, Vic Falls.
@@NickfrNamibia Best camp in Zimbabwe is The Corner, a national park immediately to the north of Chimanimani park. Absolutely beautiful, seldom visited. Travel through the village along the old Zeederburg coach road, but be warned the road into the park can be terrible.
Thanks, nice video. We'll be travelling Zim for the full month off June, entering from Beitbridge. Mana Pools and the Zambezi River in the North and back via highlands and Gonarezhou. We are tempted to extend the loop and visit Hwange, but have some doubts as it's so vaste. If we would what would be the nicest campsites for a 4 day visit? What time of the year was this video shot? Cheers and happy travels
In August. Ive been told the south is better. So maybe do some research on a site south of main camp. Would be easy for you to get in and out there as well.
Mick. We love watching your videos. you are cool and amazing. We are planning to camp at Hwange next year. how many nights would you recommend and which camps that are quiet and have good showers?
Do a few nights across the park from South to North or vice versa. Robins in the north is good for an entry/exit point, Masuma dam was excellent and one or two south of main camp. You can skip main camp it was in a terrible condition. Prices mainly affect your decision because there is quite a range, but Ill definitely recommend including some of the private sites if thats within your budget.
Hi Nick thanks for sharing your trips with us .Is there water at Sinamatella and some sort off ablutions .We are off to Hwange in September . We are self sufficient but would like to bee informed beforehand .Enjoy your travelling's
An elephant chased us near main camp once, my dad decided to film it and he wasn't amused, we were stuck till a ranger came out, my dad forgot to take the hand brake off!!!! Ours was no mock charge it chased us for about five minutes!!!!
Didnt want to ask about it, but looks like they started with some painting and then stopped. The place is a mess and I cant imagine the amount of money it will take to get it up and running again
it was privatised in 2016 to a chinese mining company. They started to put down the open !!! restaurant and renovated one!!! Lodge (which is now rented out for 280 USD not getting any visitors.) The company went bust and so all upgrades stopped. Don't expect any news on this before the election. Aside: it is a no brainer to stay at sinemantella a couple of days. There are acceptable abolution. (new tiles have been set up I think in 2015)..And ffS Hwange NP is a wild park and not Disney land.
depending on where you come from: Robins upon entry or exit from the north. Masuma Dam, Detema Dam & Ngewshla (didnt stay here, but heard good things, not sure if the off road caravan can go that far south)
there are more than 1000 lions now and 60.000 elephants. Even in January and February you see loads of them. Hwange is far easier to travel than luangwa. Unfortunately the presenter of this video was more bothered about himself than to present the park. Use my channel and search for Hwange to get a real impression.
Such a pity to see the lack of big hardwoods. The lack of elephant population controls evident. Cost of staying rediculous for US$170pppn. Used to be cheap as chips. Thanks anyway Nick.
because the whole video is a nonsense: public park camping is17 USD pP + 10 USD camping fee an 3USD for the car. If you book a picknicksite eg. Detema than you pay 40 USD including park fee if there is space available and you book eg. via robbins camp. It is true that masuma is 170 USD but there is a et camp site close by for 50 USD per night (minimum 3 nights) Overall this video is full of mistake, Errors and mishaps. fuel is available at Robbins camp and also with a brand new station at main camp.
I dont think you watched the video....and it depends where you are from...prices differ. If you book beforehand you dont qualify for the reduced fees, you get charged the full 170. The reduced prices are applicable if you arrive without a booking and there is space at specific site...this is not guaranteed and like you see on the video if you watched it, i ended up driving to another camp because it was double booked. No there was definitely no fuel at Robins when i was there...
Geez. That was minimal interaction. Scary is when they come to nudge your car, or as my friend once had, stick their tusks right through the old 45 Landcruiser tailgate in anger.
Thank you Nick for all the videos from Africa. You actually inspired me to travel to Namibia.

Thanks a bunch for your efforts! Love your sense of humor thru all the booking issues…TIA huh? 😆

Roan, not sable. Excellent, informative video. Great maps.
haha, yes thanks. Realised that after seeing an actual sable later on😂

Spent a weekend at Deteema last year and couldn't fault the facilities or service from the staff
its a pleasure. Together with masuma and ngewsha those would probably be my recommendations
i think Rae is referring to Sinamatella. but yes, the staff go out of their way and do the best with what they are given

Nick, you best go to Chimanimani in eastern Zim, swear its a beautiful area there boet.
where exactly?
@@NickfrNamibia Chimanimani mountains, beautiful lush area with rolling hills and plantations bordering Mozambique. Think you'd love it...

Not sable , it's Roan antelope and they are very rare in aother areas of Africa. Thanks for the cool vid.

Yes there is a tap with drinking water and basic ablutions. The supervisor there opened the female bathroom for me to use. I'll give it a 4/10....
What time of year were you there?
Your Sable is the rare Roan Antelope on your first drive
haha, yes thanks Peter. I realised that as soon as I saw an actual Sable😂
Thanks for a great video! What time of year was this? Greetings from Sweden.
September
Would like to know if you would recommend staying at Robin's camp for 7 nights?
you can, but that would be too long for me...3 or 4 nights

Any update on upgrades to Sinamatella? Why has it been essentially abandoned?
Didnt want to ask about it, but looks like they started with some painting and then stopped. The place is a mess and I cant imagine the amount of money it will take to get it up and running again

Is hwange still worth a visit or has it been over poached, understand luangwa could be the better option now?
Luangwa in Zambia?
Yes, north east
South Luangwa is amazing, yes much better
Thought so, thanx
