Good to stick with your comfort zone and learning slow is a good idea, but I'd consider trying to increase your momentum by maybe 30%, when the going is good. If the terrain was slightly more challenging you wouldn't have enough momentum to "spend" (clutch in and coast) in areas where you don't want to be adding power to compensate.
