I bought a Transalp and it has blown me away. What a great bike!
Congratulations! Bet it's a blast.
I got tired of waiting for one here in the US. They didn't confirm it was coming here so I ended up with a Norden 901.
Choice #2 was an Africa Twin but they aren't releasing 2023 ATs in the US either. No dealerships could get one and Honda would cancel pre-orders with no explanation. The dealerships later said "unofficially" that Honda was skipping this year in the US market so I would either need to wait indefinitely or choose something else.
Honda corporate really needs to work on their communication skills. Definitely cost them a sale with me.
@@marcochavane3124how are you liking the norden?
Same bro! Just a fantastic bike and fuck all these comparisons and etc. No regrets for transalp, dope and confy bike
@@domasvosylius4349 agreed, bro. So much BS has been witten and I couldn't care less. No regrets at all. I also got a really good deal on the bike...the suberb quickshifter and first service included.
@@trailrider1980 it's an incredible bike. Everyone that's ridden it wants one. Gives you 600cc sport bike performance on the road and is just as capable as a Tenere 700 off-road.
I really like this format. Great to get the quick switches from bike to bike it’s a more direct comparison plus two opinions instead of one. Well done.
Great testing of two brilliant bikes - fun and thorough! Running the bikes together and offering the views of two riders is a good format. I really enjoyed the video - thanks. Cheers.
Love these comparison videos, being from Canada it's almost impossible to get a test ride, so your comparisons really help! thanks and keep up the great content
Suzuki gave a gift to us in the aftermarket - the muffler is huge, which is why it's so quiet, but the catalytic converters look tiny, there's barely any breadbox under the engine. Yank off the muffler, put on a cheap aftermarket slip on, you're down 8KGs and it'll totally wake up. It's the same with the SV650.
Fully stripped back V-Strom 800,with all the offroad mods done(18" rear wheel included) from Hessler, 238kg(Inc.14kg of fuel),Transalp modded the same, similar weight, but with only 11.2kg of fuel. A decat, and further pairing back, it should be possible to get to 199kg dry?
Why would you? A silent exhaust is a superior exhaust.
@@F3udF1st for the weight. I did smth similar on my 19 650 XT strom, changed the exhaust and the battery for lithium, gained 7 kilos. But honestly OP, gaining 8 kilos by just changing the pipe with a legal one at least, sounds really optimistic. More like 4 maybe 5 maximum if the original is indeed really heavy. Hessler btw uses the arrow system and on my V strom with that exhaust I gained about 3.6 kilos.
@@F3udF1st As an international truck driver, I can tell you, that's not true...I'm more likely to hear you than see you on the Perpherique around Paris, where I drive once a week!(RHD truck).
@@F3udF1st Well then looks like they nailed it for the people who like quiet bikes :)
I love the little peak at the front of the Suzuki. Very good looking bike
Fabulous group test boyz with all bases covered in a fun way,I’m mostly a road rider doing occasional tours & never really touch the dirt so I’ll best booking a demo ride on the Transalp. Keep up the great work Boys.
Boys epic stuff as usual! Having Gregorio in the video is always plus cause your interaction is very natural. Just two Mates talking about bikes! Keep it coming!!
Thanks matey!! :-)
Excellent comparison review guys. I think you've summed it up perfectly & distinguished the bikes characters from each other really well They've essentially got to a similar place in terms of end product but take slightly different routes to get there.
Glad you enjoyed it RR, we did enjoy making this one :-)
Thanks gents, great vid as ever, looking forward to seeing the Africa Twin against the new Vstrom DE👍
Such a great video. Not just the specs but how does it feel. Also the voice audio is so much better than most videos. great job.
Much appreciated! 😁👍
Great comparison review. I'm really liking my new-to-me '18 V-Strom 1000 for commuting. The V-Strom 800 is a very compelling package for a comfy all-rounder.
Excellent video!! This comparison was exactly what I was looking for.
Good comparison. I wouldn't be bothered about not having hand guards and a bash plate as standard, as the bits you get are usually a joke, and get replaced straight away.
Absolutely bang on , I never order oem parts anyway, always shit quality, buy base and add yourself, unless quickshifter
YES! FInally! Yours is the first comparison between these two that Ive seen. Thank you sirs!
No problem 👍👍
Great comparison. This is what comparisons should be like. Love your work boys. I’m not in the market but I think I’d go the Suzi because of the suspension and the dash looks better. But I’d love to ride both and see how they feel. Would be good bikes for me.
Great comparison again Chops. I think these middleweight adventure bike's are the way to go for all-around every day use especially if you chuck in a bit of off roading every now and then. Personally I think that the Honda would look better in the red, white and blue colours but i am loving the look of that Suzuki. 😊👌. Hard decision 🤔
Two sweet bikes. Love the VStrom in the gray & yellow. 🤩
Good to see them both on your green lanes.
I've owned two DL650s which I considered to be "pretend" adventure bikes. I liked them for their upright rider position, good visibility, and the wonderfully smooth v-twin. They were easier on my old hips and knees than most other types. Of these two, I think I would choose the Transalp. I like the styling better, and I ride 98% on road anyway. Fun video to watch, BTW.
The DL650 is primarily a road bike, it doesn't really pretend to be anything else.
Plus, you might be able to pick up the Honda. Not too sure about the DL.
Best review I've seen Awesome job guys. USA, picking up a Transalp tomorrow. Super excited.
Well do you like it?
You guys are awesome. I used to ride with a group and miss the fun. Looking at the Suzuki to end my riding career.
Thanks for the lively comparison! Since you are two your comparisons would be perfect to include two-up pillion ride impressions as well.
It's a great design by Suzuki that you can actually see where you're going on a trail, no massive fairing to look over. Thanks
What a great comparison video, you and gregorio make a great team. I'm with you chops for me it would be the V-Strom, great looking bike and that colour scheme is beautiful. Personally the honda looks like a baby Africa twin which I'm not a fan of to be honest. I was out the other day and saw the V-Strom 10.50de, what an amazing looking bike. Well done guys, can't wait for the next comparison video.
Yes! Get the 800 DE out there with the Twin. I'll probably end up with one of those two early next year.
Just rode both back to back in Oz . Suzuki hands down and I'm a Honda fanatic
What did you like better about the Suzuki? I've ridden it but not the Transalp.
@@chriskneifl3290 smoother power delivery of the engine and riding position for me being six foot 1 on the Suzuki. Both very important for this style of bike to me and my age of 50 plus
I just did the same thing. But for me its the other way around. Shows how important a test ride is =)
I would get the Honda, simply because it's a Honda and that means great after sales support and good resale value.
Brilliant. Exactly what I needed to hear, as usual great review. Keep it up.
Thanks!! :-)
Congratulations! The first head to head on these two~ it will be VERY interesting what Yamaha does with a possible Tenere 900
Thanks Mikey!! Yes Tenere would be good in the mix as would the Aprilia
Searched your channel for a Tenere video. Didn't see one. Don't think I've ever heard you mention the Tenere. I chose one even knowing these are both on their way. It's simple, not expensive, sounds and looks amazing. Loving it :)
No unfortunately I have not tested one as yamaha wasn't working with me. I will be trying one soon though 👍
Perfect comparison. Waiting for 1050de vs the africa twin. Keep it up!
I would definitely take the Suzuki. Fully adjustable suspension is big deal. When dialed in for your weight, a bike becomes amazing! IMHO. Plus the magic carpet ride of longer suspension is just lovely in the real world. Nice job on the reviews! No shade to the Honda. Looks like a great bike too!
Thank you for the video. Great job! I know I would be grateful to have either one.
Great test, you gave an honest comparisons and opinions, very enjoyable to watch
Not my type of bikes but I still like watching you and Greg doing comparisons. Good job. 👍🏼
I appreciate that! 👍
Such a great realistic comparison.Thanks.
Great fun video! Very informative as well as entertaining. Keep it up.
As always, excellent material! Lamb Chop Rides Rock! In my opinion, both motorcycles are excellent options! I think that the price of the Honda Transalp would be higher than the Vstrom if it had as standard similar suspension, hand guards, quick shifter and engine protector..... also, with all those options as standard on the Honda, the weight diference would be less.
Great review guys, what a choice, grunt or top end, but Hondas rarely go wrong in any respect, you pays your money and takes your choice! 👏👍😀
Out of the two adv bikes, Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE is the one to have!
More expensive and heavier with worse road manners. Seems like a bad choice
At the start I thought you said you and Greg were the New Kids on the Block !! You would be doing yourselves an injustice btw 😂
Brilliant stuff real world thinking 🤔 biggest thing is both of you are good riders and honest in the reviews of the bikes ,, really enjoyed it 😁☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
Thanks Cecil 👍
Been waiting for this side by side. Thanks for putting this together! Really enjoyed it. I guess I’ll just have to ride them both once (if) the TransAlp makes it to the states. Currently riding a 2017 Vstrom 650
I agree! I have the 2017 V-Strom 650, also, and frankly it’s capable of most anything that I’m willing to do-(off highway and on a heavier bike than my trail bike). I’ve bashed my ‘bash-plate’ a couple of times, but that’s why I installed it.
I LOVE the looks of this TransAlp- but the look doesn’t make the ‘ride’! These both look like great bikes!
I just returned from a 2,000 mile ride into Western Canada; 3 of us on ADV’s (CB500X, & Honda DCT Africa Twin) and my bother, on a Gold Wing & 2 close friends on Victory & Indian tourers- (so all on pavement). I’d LOVE to try that same ride on either of these bikes!
Our 5th or 6th trip up there; Canada and the people are both awesome!!
Really enjoyed this Comparo'.
Your "grunt" test race is really telling and one reason I went with the Suzuki. Coming from a cruiser background I really like having the power on demand in low and mid range over having to spin up the motor to red line to get my power. It is definitely a hard choice and if money was no concern I think I would have both plus hundreds more bikes in my garage because there are so many good bikes available these days.
You always have some great reviews! No exception here You guys haveing so much fun ! Thanks for sharing I felt like I was on the third bike back ! Comentary was great ! I was waitin for an unscheduled dismount in the grass in the center of the green lane seems like its always a bit wet and at a slightly higher elevation!
Thanks Ben 👍
You Guys are bringig everything to the point.
Great test from crzy riders.
Thanx for this Test 👍👍👍
Chops love the bike comparisons and Greg is a natural keep up the good work.👍👍
Thanks 👍
Love these comparison reviews. Well done chaps 👍
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
You two crack me up on the off-road... 😉 Of the whole crop of middle weight ADV bikes, I am going to have to get me a Suzuki 800DE to dip my boots into this adventure riding thing.
Make sure you take it on plenty of dirt roads, it's good on them. If you're not going off road get the honda
Glad you guys had a good time. Funny comantarry enjoyed watching and laughing with you, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it 😁👍
Thanx for this review & the direct comperison of these Japanese Legends. Been looking forward to this. First i have seen in spoken English on RUclips 👍
Honda wins because:
Lighter
More power & sound
Gearbox
Apperance
Reliability
Dealer network & parts
Cost of ownership
Its not perfect but Adequat.
The Power Of Dreams ❤
Don't forget that low hanging sump hidden by the exhaust on the Honda. That's the only down fall for off-road that I see. Great review.
Good point, that is a bad idea Honda.
Great video. Thanks. I like these bikes. Africa twin, GS1250.... Lovely but so much more than I'll ever want or need. 80hp is about right for me and I think these occupy a section in the market that that'll do well. I like that you didn't just list all the stats. Super. My choice would be Suzuki.
Great video guys, thoroughly enjoyed that,
Glad to hear it! 😁👍
great review guys love it!
👍 great comparison review.
Looks like you in West Sussex / South Downs, didn’t realise they had so many By Ways
Awesome video, cheers from Texas 🤠🍻
Happy to have come across you Gentleman, you certainly have made it easy to choose, my 6 ft 220 lbs carcass would certainly prefer the Suzuki...Great vid!
Keen on both these, just need to get my head round the headlight on the Transalp...
You don't realize what a gem of a bike the Transalp is, until you've owned one for a long time. Bullet proof, very forgiving when you're tired, you can carry crates of beer on it. So underrated.
Great comparison . Next one include the new (cheap?) Ktm 790 , that would be an interesting comparison ! Thanks for this one !
So, I own a 2019 crf250L Rally and am a former dl650 owner. Ive just found out about the 800de a couple days ago and have been drooling ever since.
Your videos have been great to watch and I’m finding myself looking at trade in values and such.
Perhaps I’ll wait until 2024 to see if any gremlins appear, and incentives as well.
Suzuki is well known for discounting prior year bikes in the beginning of a new year.
Great videos. Thanks for taking the time and greeting from Florida.
Man I really like the look of these Suzuki's. It's on my shortlist. Enough power and gear to supercruise on the highway at 75mph + plush suspension. Be a welcome change from the well uh slow and firm CB500X I'm riding now.
check the "new" 800 RE thats looks even better for the road
i tested both and i think i would buy the Honda too.. the V-strom 800 (i own a v-strom 650Xt) is very nice .. but the Honda impressed me a little bit more on the rider positioning and the handling ..
The Transalp is what most 500x riders asked for. Maybe Rally Raid will come to the rescue on the suspension. Maybe there are going to be a-lot of used 500x’s at Honda dealers soon ;)
For me ill stick to my 500x. Love the 7/8 size, economy and do it all functionality.
However that DE would be fun to test out. Great video boys!
As fellow CB500X owner I have to agree,if the CB500X didn't do everything I wanted and asked of it,I'd be looking seriously at either of these two.But the CB500X is such a gem and always leaves me smiling and rarely leaves me wanting😊
I think that's the problem. I think that people wanted a smaller Africa Twin, not a bigger 500x.
@@simulacrae did they not get both?
@@johnwood4448 I don't think so, the electronics are simpler, the lok is more toward the 500x and the handling is more road focused. I can't think of the Transalp as a round the world bike.
I see the 800DE as the motorcycle you can ride long distances to get to your adventure and then ride that as well. Some folks have been calling the 800DE the DR800DE.
Its big enough to do freeways and highways, but handles itself well off road. Since I have been suffering thru the DL1000XAL8 not having the suspension travel and ground clearance and the silly 19" from tire, the 800 DE is a win for me.
The 800DE is not for hard enduro, I suppose, tho I always think that's more the rider than the bike, but the bike makes things easier for the rider.
I test rode the transalp recently and the hornet a couple of weeks back
Wow that engine, What a peach
Provide one of THE best engines on the market today ..
Greg , have you tried the Hornet yet ?
If not , You WILL love it 😊
Transalp all day long for me . they have a new aftermarket 220mm suspension for it that would make it on par with other adjustable suspensions out there. Plus the Honda looks much better.i would even pick it over the T7. 09 HP for 208 KG hard to beat for that price point. Honda nailed it with this bike i'm on the wait list here in US to grab one. Great video guys.
Great test I'd say yr spot on Suzi seems better off road trans Alp little more toad. If I were actually going around the world or whatever I would pick the Suzi because of the sub frame in case of crash
Great work loved the whole review
Glad you liked it 👍
Team Suzuki ❤
IMO, great review/ comparison! Also, in today's marketplace, there are some "really nice" motorcycles to choose from and it just boils down to personal taste/ needs.
Amazing review. For the most accurate gearbox and engine review, you should put Motul 7100 oil in both bikes. Motul oil completely changes a motorcycle into something better. It's maybe the only oil you can buy that actually dramatically improves the engine and gearbox. It felt like I had completely re-tuned my engine and installed a better clutch when I switched from special ordered Amsoil, to Motul 7100. The Amazon reviews indicate the same effect from thousands of other people who switched to Motul 7100.
Got my Transalp for the same reason can do it all but awesome on road,
I have owned 2 Vstroms. A 2012 650 and now have a fully tricked out 1000. I have taken this bikes in places most people think it would not go. I can only imagine how well the 800 will do.
All she need are some Michelin Anakee Wild nobbies.
And some soft soft luggage.
Best comparison on these two bikes on youtube
well if you would spec them both the same, the suzi would be cheaper, because on honda you would have to go aftermarket fit suspention. Honda basically made tourer bike with just little higher suspension, where Suzuki made an all round adventure bike
Great review that lads👍
Great comparison, Honda is a lovely looking machine so is the suzuki ,
I'm not a lover of that end can on the suzuki doesn't look as good has the Honda,
The conversation between you always brings a smile
Thanks Martin! :-)
Thank you for the video very nice and interesting
Please give me information of the camera that you use on the Handlebar....
thank you
Cracking review gents.
awesome comparison ty
I like where the Suzuki makes it's power lower in the range. In my opinion much more useable in day to day riding.
True, but a Honda NC750X is even better and spend the the money you have saved on purchase on topnotch suspension upgrade - best alround adventure tourer !!
Well done! A fun watch.
Fabulous review. Now get on with that H1. 😊
Test rode the Transalp a few weeks ago and got one for my birthday. Picking it up from the dealer later today. Super stoked!
Update: Heavy rain. Picking it up tomorrow.
Hey, observations so far?
@@veljkovic92 Worth every peso.
Good review. Thanks
Love your comparisons :-)
Thanks Paw 👍
I had the old vstrom 650 which was a bit boring in this case its Honda all the way, another nice review Chopsy all the best.
And did you had the old Transalp? It was double much boring than the old 650 V-Strom.. Dont compare old machines by choosing a new one. The new are totaly different than the old..
And be honest, nice “agressive”sound is good for “just for fun around the house” way, but for comfortable long distance travelling is silent engine with more power in lower torques much more better.. For me definitely V-Strom ❤.
Myself I like the Honda but I would like to know changing the air filter on the Honda itself Nice job on the video guys.
The airfilter on the Honda is located under the tank unfortunatly 👎
Excellent comparison between these two very closely matched bikes 👍
Thanks! 👍
You guys are consistent 🍻
Same conclusion back in the day between the Africa Twin and the 1050 XT
Lets redo that comparison but now with the 1050 DE
I really do think the Suzuki has a good chance of getting 2:0 😄😄
Thanks 🙏
Actually just editing the video now! Africa Twin vs 1050 DE 👍
@@LambChopRides 😝
You guys are an open book 🤣
Fantastic!!!
Thanks for the review boys, they look like great bikes for the price. My pick goes with suzuki by a hair as i like the dirt but the only thing that annoys me with both of these bikes is a lack of OEM cruise control... that seems the only omission on face value that would add value to a long cruise down the highway.
You can get a good throttle lock for $30.
@@chadkline4268 yes you can but not quite the same as factory cruise. It feels more like a manufacturer decision to sell more 1050's as a "true" adventure bike. I don't understand why they don't have an option on the 800.
@@ckgaming7369
I don't think it's so simple. First, people would not be happy with a simple lock. They would want speed maintenance so that the bike maintains speed up and down hills. And that means a much greater expense. At least, another throttle controller. Then, there is liability concerns such as being accused of the auto throttle control not turning off fast enough to prevent an accident. That is why some mfrs go so far as to couple cruise control with radar sensors to prevent collisions. And costs can skyrocket when a mfrs takes responsibility for the auto control of a bike. They might need to add tilt sensors so unreasonable speeds are not maintained around sharp curves, etc. It can get complex very quickly. Maybe you want a brake sensor to turn off the cruise control, etc.
@@chadkline4268 if you look across the brands, I agree it adds cost and complexity, but BMW does offer this option for their mid tier bikes for not much more.
Harley offers it for $250 so I'm sure these companies could do it for less. It's a lot easier with these bikes today being throttle by wire.
When's the Hornet Vs GSX-8S comparison test coming? As a new hornet owner I want to see one of your acceleration side by side tests to see if the Hornet loses out because of its so called lack of bottom end which I haven't found at all 🤔
I live in northern Wisconsin USA, waiting for this transalp to get to Us ….. not sure why they delay models in either side of the water? The adventure segment is only growing in the US so again why the delay. Anyway great video and info !
On Greg’s page with this , the Honda does it for me . More road based commuting, better gear box and brakes plus an engine with a sound track . The Suzuki is a good bike just for me personality not got the edge of the Honda .
Nice comparison guys! Its weird how they do the pricing in different countries. In sweden the suzuki is 500 euro cheaper then the transalp...
Amazing review guys, excellent work.
Btw, what do you use to communicate between the two of you ? Very good quality.
It's the cardo intercom but the audio you hear is recorded on the Gopro. So not as heard via the intercom if you know what you mean.. ?😄👍
I have the 250de and a cb500x but love this video and find my 250 soo much easier to ride.
Great comparison guys!but may i ask you on weight and consumption witch one was better?and of course are there any engine vibes that could become annoing...thanks i think i.m going with the honda
