  • The Lancia Fulvia Sport 1600 Zagato is with www.prestigerefinishing.co.uk/ at the moment and after all the terrible repairs were exposed (see part 6), Sam and Adrian are now working some serious magic to bring the body back into shape before it's ready to paint in a few weeks time.

SUGGESTION: Maybe, once it's all done, you could have the entire team sign a leftover piece of the original Lancia metal as part of the car's personal history, along with a group photo? Just a thought as I start to imagine it one day at car shows commanding crowds of people who appreciate these works of art and power.

That's a great idea. Better than one I saw on a wooden boat building channel in the USA. Bloke with a black beard is trying to sell bits of wood that have been cut off the plank being used for the boat's hull. Why would you ever want that ? The piece could have come from any lumber yard in the US.

The artifact (scrap piece) may be best preserved by being coated with rust encapsulator or etch primer and left in an airtight zero humidity perspex box with a B5 sized Dolomite white marble plaque(Italian)-the thickness of an iPad, with a brief history engraved. An optional extra could be a thin bronze or 3d printed relief showing the craftmens and Harry's faces looking on and smiling.
Bronze and carbon fibre are potentially longer lasting (higher cost though) materials than laminated photos but worth considering if this commemoration is to sit in a car museum for more than a hundred years.
PS Harry is a genius for letting us learn about the near lost arts of metalcraft before power tools. Reminds me of Ant from Wheel Dealers using an English Wheel or Kiki from Gas Monkey Garage hammering out a roof on a 50's Chevy with Oxy-Ace torch and a flat-faced bodywork hammer. Thanks Harry's Garage.

We have less manufacturing now than we've ever. Where can today's youth find this sort of knowledge in our shrunken manufacturing base and a population that is less mobile than ever, there is less and less opportunity and the proximity to these artisans grows wider with time. I haven't watched all of the videos that you've posted to your RUclips channel, but I have watched a large number of them. This series of videos covering the restoration of your Lancia Fulvia Zagato might just be my favorite content that you've created yet.
There's always been something special about classic cars that are original and unmolested. However, given the level of skill and effort going into it, by the time the group of craftsmen gathered to bring this car back to its former glory have finished, it will surely be one of the most special Lancia's out there. Vintage cars themselves serve as reminders of days gone by - cars of this kind haven't been available for quite some time. But it's also important to note that in just a few more decades, it's highly likely that same will be said of the work carried out by these extraordinarily talented individuals profiled here. This Lancia will serve a testament to all of these things and that is really special when you stop to think about it.

Still can’t believe just how mauled the body was. And the 30-plus kilos of filler used not just to fill but to shape rather complex curves is puzzling. To say this car has been rescued is an understatement. Lastly, am encouraged by some comments here that these craftsmen will be with us in twenty or whatever years when this and similar body work needs done.

It’s a pleasure to watch and listen to craftsmen like this, I hope they’ve taught these fantastic skills to apprentices as it would be a tragedy to lose these skills

He is an artist and incredible to see what he can do with metal rather than the previous Bodgit & Scram in 2000. He gets my award for being a “cartist”

Wow, these blokes are artists. Thanks for sharing this Harry. I know the bill must be fat, but it's a great investment in rewarding these blokes for their skill, educating us lot and keeping little a jewel of a car with a really unique engine humming along happily - unencumbered by 30Kg of polyester!

You’ve had some incredibly skilled craftsmen on your channels but Adrian is top of the tree. Such impressive work.
I’m no huge Fulvia Zagato fan but the story behind this car and the people you have working on it has made this series by far my favourite of all your fantastic videos 👌

Living our modern lives where we buy things/replace them... You totally forget that simply hitting a sheet of metal with a hammer can result in the most beautiful shape & sculpture, that intuitively appears impossible

Metalworking has to be one of the most satisfying jobs on a classic car.

It's mesmerising to watch master craftspeople work. Their skills, knowledge and experience are human qualities that shine more brightly now than ever. The value of such expertise exceeds its cost. But I do wonder how much Harry is shelling out on this special Fulvia...

Having done a bare minimum of rust repair on various Italian cars over the years- mostly of the "fill the hole to pass inspection" sort- I am incredibly impressed at the craftsmanship these artisans are putting into your Flavia. Hopefully there are young men and women apprenticing in the rapidly vanishing art of metal working.

One thing I've noticed about all the guys involved in the restoration of the Fulvia is just how humble, open and understated they are about their craft. None of them act or talk like they're the mutts nuts...even though they actually are! Just goes to show that you don't need to prove anything when your work speaks for you. Just hope they have apprentices to learn and perfect these skills.

Poor Lancia Fulvia Zagato she went from looking like Frankenstein to becoming a bella signorina like in her youth. Harry deserves the title of "Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana" for financing such a convoluted restoration of a well deserved piece of Italian automotive history!

Thanks Harry this car is well worth the effort. Interesting seeing the bodges as well, respect to the original bodgers by the way, Wood turners all done by eye.
