The beauty of Harry's Garage is that he can do what I can only dream of doing. It's a bit like your best mate buying some exotic transport (car/boat/plane etc.) then inviting you to spend a day out with them. I love it!
And frankly he spends his money better than I ever would in that position. 😁
If you dream it your half way there
@@myownsite i agree , i probably would waste it. as that famous saying goes.
But that's daft, because you are not even spending an hour with the geezer. In fact not even a minute. Your dreams can become reality, but are they really dreams, or day mares?
You said it, David!
It looks fabulous Harry, the choices you’ve made are spot on, can’t wait to see it finished.
The best thing about Harry's Garage is that every video is worth watching and there is no filler. Some channels make 10 and 20 minute videos that could be covered off in 5 minutes.
Keith is a great ambassador for his company, I would have no hesitation in entrusting him with my own pride and joy ..... such a breath of fresh air from the usual knuckle-draggers to be found in the motor trade.
Paint looks stunning in the sunlight. Must get it filmed in 4K when the final product is unveiled so we can really enjoy the detail.
This reminds me of my early days at Jaguar. Albeit in the days of the Mk3 and Daimler Double -Six models. The door hinges were set with slave weights hung inside . These mimicked the weight of the lock, window glass, motor and the other components fitted in the trim shop, so that they could be set correctly. A similar weight was fitted to the trunk lid to counteract the springs and keep it in the closed position, prior to painting. Custom-made fasteners were fitted to the doors to keep them shut in transit.
Its been a shit weekend, but watching this old beauty come back to life is a kind of tonic. When your dead Harry this car will still thank you.
That car makes the absolute best noise! So cool to watch its development.
I've been trying to imagine those few seconds of stunned silence in the workshop after that panel fell off the stand. And the phone call to Harry. Great update, not long now !
Go on Harry? Dont put the BROKEN CHROME back on?? 😯😯 that would be a shame and play on your mind mate
Ever heard of the Tourrets guy, OH BOB SAGET!!!! lol
Silence followed by strange noises and shuffling of feet, heads turning ....and then ...no more silence!!?
It' s happened to all of us who do stuff. That appalled, horrified moment ........ I imagine there was some exploration of the coarser points of the English language. And then the phone call ' er Harry, about your visit tomorrow ..... '
The colour looks stunning. You must be so pleased with it Harry. I always loved the look of the coupe, looking forward to seeing it when it’s finished.
But why green, the original colur was beautiful !
I owned a 77 4.2 Coupe, rebuilt - in 1981; and a 1978 V12 Coupe, rebuilt - in 1983. In both cars the floor pans had already rotted through. The V12 required a respray under warranty within 6 months of delivery from the factory. That said, I still think they were the most beautiful cars I have ever owned. Congratulations to Harry for resisting any bling improvements on his wonderful Coupe rebuild. Patina keeps the car in period. I, too did away with the Vinyl roof on the 4.2, which improved its elegance. As Jaguar did the same in competition models that's not heresy. The V12 ended up with James Hull, the Newport dentist who sold his 543 Jaguar collection to Jaguar Landrover in 2014. It had a sad ending. Vandals broke into his storage facility, raced some cars round and wrote off my Coupe!!! I am following this rebuild with a mixture of admiration - and regret!
I don't think there is anything worse than a modern interior and wheels on a classic car. What you have in mind for this car is bang-on-perfect and she's coming up a treat!
You are doing exactly the right thing. This is a gentleman's car, it needs the smooth ride that the XJs were famous for, so NO big wheels. On the other hand, the little bit of extra power never did anyone any harm.
This is my favourite car on Harry's fleet, can't wait to see it finished.
Wow! Magnificent vehicle. My father owned a number of Jaguars here in the US many years ago and none were this beautiful.
Harry has a garage that us mere mortals can only dream about, yet despite the wonderful cars (and bikes!) he has, this XJC remains the one that I would take home.
So glad you’re keeping the original leather. Nothing like original patina on leather. It’s just beautiful, unique and lovely.
It's tired, worn, and the wrong colour. Massive mistake not to retrim it in new beige leather.
That green is just amazing and I am sure the camera isn't doing it justice and that V12 is a piece of art. Worthy of being on display in any lounge room.
It's great that there are places with the skills and attention to detail to do this kind of stuff, and that there are people like Harry who can afford them!
Beautiful colour👍 totally agree on the level of restoration. And hats off to Harry for keeping the British steel industry in business with this and the Lancia.
Harry, I would love to see a comparison video between this and the Espada. It would be especially interesting to learn about purchase price in period of the two vs current values as well as ride/handling quality, ease of use, etc. You could even go a step further and compare it to other luxury coupes of the 70's. I was born in 1975 so I have a particular attraction to cars of this era.
@@zgpm7031 Don't you have a kitten to strangle, or a dog to beat? ..besides being rude for no reason at all, i strongly disagree with you. I join Eric in wanting to hear about this beautiful car compared to others.
@@zgpm7031 If you would've paid attention to the video, you would've heard Harry contemplating the idea. I was simply casting my vote for it's support. And Harry (and/or his son) have absolutely responded to my comments in the past, so I believe he does give a sh#t. (Lord forgive me for responding to this nonsense.)
I was thinking the same thing. It would be great to compare them
Eric, you’re son of Denis? If so send my regards
I am so happy you decided to keep the interior AND the wheels! And my compliments on the color. It is a joy to see the progress you are making with this beautiful car.
Loving the build, but it take for-bloody-ever! Your patience is almost as impressive as the attention to detail!
I was smiling throughout. Happy for you, jealous for me!
I love this car and I love the colour choice. The gold flecks really work and I agree that the interior is perfect as it is, Harry.
Harry"s wonderfully eclectic car collectionis really coming together.
The Jag is back! This is not restoration but recreation. Harry will own the best vintage Jag in UK. Revived for the next 30 years and a competition winner.
Spot on. Great colour combo. Tasteful extra detail, can’t wait to see the finished project.
This is going to be a real ‘headturner’ once she’s on the road, as much as many of your other beauties …. Really love the choices you’ve made Harry and the fact that you are doing it as a driver’s car rather than a concours show piece 👍👏
26:00 Harry, we know you refined your cars not going all out, forgetting what they are. That's why we subscribe, it's just pure class 😎👌
Oh man is it going to be stunning! That color. If anything the aged chrome adds to its aesthetic
25:55 - Poise and power and that 12-cylinder big cat purr - glorious! 🐱
Been looking forward to seeing this for ages
Great video
Anyhow great that blokes like Harry got the money to save this classic motor. Must be one of the ikonic cars ever built. Thumbs up.
Jay Leno doing the same in L.A. doing it for the love of the vehicles.
Love that style Jaguar, thats why once I win the lottery it will be in my garage next to a Rover P5 coupe. Two of my favourite cars ever.
Gorgeous! I'm a horrid person and definitely would have gone restomod with a late model engine, etc., But then I don't have as much follow-through(or money) as Maestro Harry, here. The world would be a lesser place without these gentleman committed to pristine originality.
Absolutely stunning Harry can't wait to see it finished
Really lovely choice of colour! 21st Century version of 1970’s deep olive metallic!
The colour is fantastic. I also have a dark green car and since owning it I am a big fan of green. Suits this Jaguar perfectly.
Harry is a class act. These guys are experts but mishaps happen. The main thing is that the Jag will be beautiful when it all comes together.
This car and restoration are truly wonderful have really loved this series
You nailed the colour! Absolutely beautiful!
The view into the engine bay with the bonnet off is amazing👍. I had a S1 XJ12 years ago and never understood why the fuelling system was so complex. Twin tanks, fair enough but why two pumps and a changeover switch when a balance pipe and warning light would do nicely. The walnut dash will look beautiful when installed. I loved the dash layout of the S1, can't remember if it was walnut, I suspect not but it was also beautifully finished. There's some iconic motors in Harry's garage but I can see this becoming one of his favourites, it would certainly be mine!😀
Every time you post a video about this car, i am amazed by the progress of the work! We can see it gradually come back to life, and become more beautiful each time, with these elegance, class and good taste so characteristic of the British gentleman’s choices!
I am Happy to see that this olive gold painting is quite the same that i chose for my brand New Softail Standard that is in point job right now!
can't wait to see the brilliant green and gold reflections under the sun!
You’re doing a beautiful job on it, I like the look of cars with a decent amount of sidewall, this trend of huge wheels and rubber band tyres on the potholed tracks we use has me baffled.
That's a very nice colour in the sunshine. Reminds me of the dark olive pearlescent that Volvo offered on P80 cars (850 and classic V70) - appropriately, given the random Volvo injector components! Extremely tasteful.
Wow! Thank god you're not overdoing Harry. This is going to be a truly fabulous car.
Needs to be renamed "XJC Extra Virgin" as the colour looks like light shining through a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, yummy 😋 Your design decisions only need to please you, the rest of us can enjoy or speculate to our hearts content but you have to live with it. Keep up the good work 👍
I also thought the front was riding very high, at first thought maybe the engine wasn't back in yet, but 40KG of fluids, a radiator, bonnet and bumpers should certainly help it settle! It will be lovely when finished, and you've got the right balance of originality and usability.
Lovely colour. Fully support the idea of a usable classic rather than a pampered garage queen. Also agree that the 'kent' alloys do look very smart.
In very good taste, all of it! Love the restraint and nod to the period. The color is fantastic and the black interior is perfect. You are reenforcing it’s origin and the subtle beauty of that very sharp coupe, in my opinion. The only people that will notice it are those that truly appreciate it, including the driver, perfect!
That colour is awesome. The new dash is cool too. Yes, tan interior would look cool but so does the original
I can't wait to see the paint flattened out and the chrome on it out in the sun. Awesome color! You've got performance cars in the garage, this is a stately, GT with style, no need to make it higher performance with wider wheels, etc. Totally agree with your decisions, except I may have to have the gas caps rechromed if it were mine.
Thanks for that Harry. Good to see it all coming together. Look forward to your cost summary!
V12 XJC. Stunning workmanship. Fabulous paint choice. Standard Kent alloy wheels-No silly 'Pimp My Ride' oversized wheels with joke elastic band tyres!= CLASS. The End.
The car is going to look fantastic. Beautifully restored but not overdone. Totally agree on the wheels and tires - they just fit the car so well. Cannot wait to see the next stage.
Beautiful! Can't wait to see the final installment.
I just love it. Can’t wait to see more. I’d still go with the pinstripe but can be talked out of the vinyl roof!
@@zgpm7031 Is your mission on life to be rude to other human beings? Why wouldn't you seek out a more constructive and positive occupation?
Don't think you'll do well on this channel, behaving like you do.
Absolutely gorgeous . I am so jealous . That lambo will shy away when you drive the jag home .
Harry, I was a little unsure but seeing that in the sunshine...you have nailed it, low key class. What a mota !! I have loved that type of colour for decades. Lovely.
I think you are absolutely spot-on with the spec on this one - Modern wheel sizes on classic cars is a crime against good taste, the ones you picked fits perfectly. Colour also very nice! I like blue, but the blue that this Jag had must have been the most dull shade of blue ever - the green is just another level all together. Looking forward to see it all finished.
I bet you're fun at parties!
Squadron blue, popular at the time. I had an xj6 saloon in this and looked ok at the time but there are better colours and shades to choose from. I like the green but maybe something more restrained would have suited moreso. However, personal choice of course and whatever, a first class job and importantly, a fine classic kept on the road.
Old Jag's getting the recognition they deserve, and with restorations a difficult line to keep them useable, nothing worse than trailer queen's, use, enjoy and be driven.
@Harry’s garage I don’t question a single decision you’ve made. I think the colour was a brave choice and it paid off, and the rest of the restoration decisions have, just like with the Espada, been spot on. The work that was required on this car was astounding, as is the work on the Alfa and you’ve put so much into both when others would have given up. Let’s also not forget the Rolls. Hats off to you for putting in the time, work, and money, on all four of those cars.
Thanks again Harry for another excellent review. I don’t understand how people can give this 👎I find that unbelievable.
Fantastic. I really like the black leather and the bright headlining as it is. Great choices all round. Just because I like to mention it in any car styling discussion, I really dislike black wheels on anything.
🇬🇧👑Amazing work; What a noble taste within & without, congrats. Cant wait until the next episode is ready !
Epic!!! Arfur Daley would be proud!!!
Lovely! Clip at the end made me grin too. Those wheels always looked the business on the XJS too.
Colour combination is great. I’ve just ordered my Turbo S in Oak Green Metallic which is very similar and gone for black leather (tan is a bit passé)
Wise choice. That "chalk" colour that is a bit fashionable is not a colour I like much.
I see a few 992's about in your green and they look excellent.
Absolutely love it, Harry! I'm so excited to see you pick it up, start the engine and take it for that first drive once it's all completed. I think I might be almost as excited as you must be to finally see your XJ Coupe reborn. Cheers!
The color is stunning!
The timeless lines of an XJC, the V12 and that color are pure CarErotica! Well done... she's gorgeous!!
I'm extremely jealous, but in the most friendly and constructive way! 😉
Making a XJC, as it could´ve been done at the time it was built. I did the same to my XJ-S HE, with the same 5-speed conversion, 16" period correct aftermarket wheels (Arden/Rial) + intake/exhaust mods and the car was transformed. Jaguar could´ve done it back then, but chose to do otherwise.
Can anyone tell me where to get a bellhousing to fit the BW T5 to the V12 ?
I’ve been waiting for this for weeks!
Hi Harry, In my humble opinion, to retain the original character that a true classic such as the Xjc deserves, the formula should be "replace when required' This car desperately needed the bodywork fixing and the choice of paint really shows off those elegant curves. Sure, a tan interior would look beautiful, but it just doesn't need it (yet). Those little bits of repaired trim and tarnished chrome all tell a story, absolutely the right choice. And who needs bigger rims on a car like this, it most definitely would not suit. Low profiles are useless on today's moonscape roads anyway (as I think was commented). This car was born to cruise!!
I have to admit that I love the steel wheels with hubcaps. They are so sculpted and delicious looking and something not seen anymore.
Agreed check out the xj that was on Jay Leno. Also try find photos of James Hunts Xj royal blue with Oxe blood red interior and set of by a gold coach line. The icing being those wheels and hubcaps.
With the period correct tyres the side wall shape just adds to the rich form of the wheel and how they sit in the wheel arch with a little space.
Yes Harry keeping it OEM+, impeccable taste as always... gotta say I was a fan of that blue but this new colour suits it really well.
Yes, I also love the old blue. For me - sumptuous though the new colour is - the lines of the bodyshell are a bit hidden in the darker green. I think the wheels would work better with the blue too. Fantastic car though, in either guise. Better to keep the old leather and have it treated 👍
Harry love what you have done, the paint really suits the car keep the interior black
& the wheels as they are. Engine looks great should run well with those headers
When it’s finished it will be better than when it came of the production line.
Look forward to seeing the next instalment, cheers 👍🚗
Black leather really doesn't suit it, needs retrimming in beige, and some 1990s X308 wheels would really look good too.
That has to be one of the most BEAUTIFUL colors ever put on a Jaguar!! It’s stunning.
With your years of knowledge and wealth of experience one would expect youyr project to be done exactly as you want it, without creating something you would almost be too scared to drive. Such an enjoyable series. Thnak you
Spot on Harry, the Kents alloys are iconic, I have them on my one, and the original linterior is a very wise choice, a retrim would be so sterile.
A retrim in nice new beige leather would be a huge improvement on that knackered dull old black leather.
Beautiful! This rebuild should make for a great manual/ coffee table book on how to restore classics. Hope you have enough photos to do something like this. And are you doing a PPF after the final polishing?
On the level of perfection: A friend had his DB5 done over the last years and he also shied away from concours perfection. Instead he’s happy to put miles on it without worrying too much about it. So enjoy!
Green? Yes, but that Green is MAGIC 😃
And, as you say, the sound of that V12 😃 😃
You've got a great sleeper there, have many miles of fun driving it.
The XJC always catches the eye, with colleagues in Furze Platt near Maidenhead a cream XJC could be seen every day. One of the lads not a car guy at all commented on what a stunning car it was.
Sympathetic modifications to make an old car useable and robust is the way to go with a car such as the XJC. I find it dangerous with a piant brush in my hand as you want to go mad. Always best to just breathe now an again and say that enough.
You need to go on ebay and buy an old Corgi XJC and send it to Keith to have it painted in that stunning green.
All the best, Gary
I like that you're going the "enhanced workhorse" route, rather than so "concours" that you're afraid to use it. I think you've got the balance just right, and good call on keeping the original interior.
You’ve got everything spot on- Except, lmo you should really do the chrome , Paint and chrome are an item, if you paint it ,you restore the chrome. If you don’t, its like fitting the car back up with the original rubbers, and this is what your eye will immediately drawn to. Just saying ,
Needs new beige leather too.
I really like the green Harry, but when you showed the shot of the car in blue rounding the corner I realized how much I like that blue. I think overall your choices are perfect for the restoration goal you’ve set for yourself. I’m excited to see it all done and hear that beautiful V12 sing again.
Even in its current state, a thing of beauty! Fantastic work. Thank god there are people who can afford such projects to bring pleasure to us lesser mortals!
On the last video they say it's gonna be two weeks and I've been waiting ever since! And I'm so excited to noticed it on my subscription list 😂
IMO I think you've got the line just right with how far to improve the car. The black interior was pretty good when you bought it. Tan interior no way.
Love the exterior green colour it reminds me of a few DB7's when I worked there. As you say this is not meant to be a concours car (never will be with a manual transmission) but the one modification I don't like or agree with is the wheels. I liked the BBS style wheels it had on it when you bought it.
Hope you enjoy it for years to come😁
Beige or biscuit leather is what that car needs. The old black leather looks awful with the new paint.
Really enjoying watching the progress of the resto Harry. Thanks
Spot on, i wouldn't change a thing, i love the touch with the extra couple of bits of leather in the interior, very tidy indeed... That is going to be an absolute joy to drive..
Oh it is fabulous Harry, doesn't it shine in the sun, she's a very attractive girl, can't wait to see it finished, Rj in Oz
Oh! Your going to have so much fun in that car. Absolutely correct decision on the wheels, big rims on classics look hideous.
This is the proper level of refinement! I like!
Discreet, tasteful and LOOKS period correct even though it isn’t. Not a “golf club” cliché. Spot on!
Harry, your take and taste with this restoration is impeccable. I adore the colour and agree that the chrome and interior should look original but upgraded where necessary. The Kent alloys always suited the XJC perfectly so I’m thrilled you’re not replacing them. The workmanship going into the project is incredible; so wonderful to hear the knowledge and passion for the Jaguar marque. 👏👏👏
I agree Nigel B, if only Jaguar were allowed to build them to this quality back in the day.
The colour looks amazing and I'm sure will be even better when viewed in sunlight. What a beautiful engine too.
Harry's voice is so southing. It is like a balm on the soul.
Must have muted the mic near his wallet - it has to be screaming!!! (£20k on engine, £20k in labour, £20k on paint, £20k on materials….)
That is simply gorgeous. I can't wait to see and hear a review of you driving it!
