Many a wonderful weekend spend over many years in that part of the country.

Hello. I don't usually comment but someone had to stand out in the drizzle to film a lot of that so thanks to the camera-lady. My favourite bit of your lovely Jaguar is the lack of a B-pillar.
As has been mentioned by a few already, the Jag is my favourite car in the garage. The looks and sounds are perfection. Looks a great road trip, I'm doing the NC500 in a few weeks and will be stopping at the Bridge Hotel on my way back south. I will definitely look at Ireland for next year. Thanks again Harry for another great video.
Welcome to NI and Ireland Harry! A stunning journey. I know all those roads. Ardara and Ballybofey need pronounced a little differently! I hope you had time for a Guinness in Nancy’s in Ardara. Lovely route and enjoyed the sidewards action on Glengesh pass. A great watch and glad to hear the Jag handled those wild, undulating roads well!
Can't but love seeing the car being used, even after a heavy restauration as you've done Harry. Beautiful car and WHAT a sound from the mechanical V12. Brillant video.
If you have a classic Mk2 Escort rallycar in your collection, you could enter in the Donegal International Rally, Historic section, for you were either on, or very close to roads used in this iconic event, around Letterkenny, and Malin Head, amongst others. A Mk2 is made for Irish roads! Great video, and the car was glorious. That V12 howl was epic. Glad you enjoyed 'oor we island'.
Harry, great video, as always!! I live in Greencastle, where you got off the ferry. Thank you for the publicity for our area, the tourism, and the money it brings is very much needed in Donegal. Donegal is the nicest part of Ireland, with the most friendly people, and picturesque landscapes. Btw, your hotel was in “Donegal Town”. The whole region/province you drove around was Donegal.
Greencastle is a dump. And the international border goes down the middle of that stretch of water between Magilligan and Greencastle that the ferry crosses. Not right next to the Northern Irish shoreline.
Absolutely ❤️ Northern Ireland so much to do and see and inhabited by a really friendly population, Have done a similar trip recently and would definitely go back again. Jag is fab Harry 👍
Live on the Causeway coast and have enjoyed many great drives in my Caterhams through the years.. Early summer Sunday mornings al are when the superbikes come out to play 😉
My goodness, do I love this Jaguar. I watched most of the restoration videos. The sound of the V12 is spectacular as it rows through the gears. The color is beautiful as well. Always loved the look of these. Great road trip video and one I will watch again!
Ah! Donegal thanks for the great roadtrip video. Brings back memories of the narrow roads with “SLOW” painted on the road in the dips then over the hump “SLOWER” with a 90 on to a one lane bridge. That Irish sense of humour.
I was watching this video, and on those occasions the sun came out, found myself just admiring the Jag’s paint job. Just a gorgeous colour, I think the best I’ve seen on a Jag. And it’s from an Aston.
I rode the full coast of Ireland last year on my Motorbike. Cracking roads and scenery nigh on the whole way round. Pair that with very little traffic, good weather and it's a recipe for Heaven. It's certainly one fo the best trips i;ve undertaken, and some of the best roads i've ridden up until now.
The V12 is now my favourite car in your garage. The noise, the noise of that engine is fantastic! Another great road trip video and some good camera work from Mrs M.
Locals just call it Ireland cos that's what it is. It isn't necessarily further South than Northern Ireland so calling it Southern Ireland doesn't make sense
Harry…I did a similar trip in 1991 but starting from Cork and working upwards along the coast….it was in a battered and bruised six week old Fiesta hire car…the previous hirer had backed it through a wall but the Company didn’t mind and told me not to worry ! The roads have not changed…it was like riding on horseback for 1500 miles!! Oddly I came across the photographs just yesterday when looking for something else…old 91 C 6931 is long gone but remembered!😃😃😃😃
We did a similar route in February this year - managed a selfie on the Giant's Causeway with no one else there!! Great video - amazing sound from that V12.
That road through Portstewart, Portrush and Downhill (where you have to go under the railway to get onto the beach) is one of my favs. I've driven it a few times over the years, twice in my Caterham (in the company of 40+ other kit cars) on a day like you had with perfect blue skies. Beautiful part of the world. In fact, the whole route from Westport, up through Donegal, across the top and down to Newtownards is just wonderful. It's right and proper that it rains in Ireland because if the weather was predictably beautiful all the time, it'd be swamped by tourists. As it stands, if you can bear the weather, you can enjoy the jewel that it is relatively quietly. Some of the roads are challenging in a Caterham - for sure. Dry sump essential (for ground clearance).
Oh man, here's another absolutely wonderful video. Beautiful car with a beautiful engine and incredible sound, driven properly on some really nice roads. I highly appreciate the road trip videos Harry, especially the ones with older cars driven in "matching" countries. It's not just the driving either, I really enjoy seeing the entire journey. The way you travel almost feels like something from a past world, I'd love to be able to do it myself one day.
What an epic trip , accompanied by the tremendous V12 soundtrack of the Jag….real engines made by real engineers………even if the wipers had seen better days …. Ive been to the Causeway when i worked for H&W in Belfast …that really brought it back to me !!. Great days out !! Thanks Harry & Mrs M………!!
I find polymer sealant (as for painted surfaces) works amazingly on glass (after thorough cleaning of course), without the fogging rain-x tends to cause.
@@anonimushbosh Rejex. No smearing whatsoever. Just let it dry for 10 minutes or so and buff off thoroughly. It helps to let it cure overnight. I will add that Rain x probably has slightly better beading properties but the Rejex lasts so much longer that there is really no comparison.
One thing I’ve noticed with Rain-x is how well it lasts/performs according to how warm the glass is when it’s applied. A moderate amount of heat in the glass and it seems a little better on both counts. But the best thing about the stuff is how much easier it is to get frost and ice off the glass
Did the whole of Ireland..north, south, east and west on a motorbike Yammy 250 in 1966 with a mate on his. Camping the whole time over 17 days, wet everyday. We were 16..yep 16. You could ride bikes of that size at that age in those days. Lovely friendly people everywhere some allowed us to stay in warm dry barns when it was tipping it down. Went over by Fishguard to Rosslare.....what an adventure. Thoroughly enjoyed your video and especially the XJC....great car.
Thanks Harry for coming to Ireland and especially featuring the North Coast and NW200 my favourite part of the world. You should come accross for the race in May on the bike with Charlie you would love it and get a very warm welcome. Should also have done a lap of the Ulster GP track while its mostly associated with bikes these days has a long history of car racing with both Moss and Fangio racing there back in the day.
Love the road trips, Harry and this was a beaut. Your carry-on attitude by not allowing the u/s wipers to ruin your trip - fantastic! Oh and the V12 sounded magnificent as well. 🤩
Great stuff, Harry, reminded me of my own trips up there, happy days. The Jaguar seemed to be in its element. I really enjoy the enthusiasm in your approach to the road trips, a true glass half full traveller. Great video, more of these trips, please.
I know most people say it and I hate to be that guy but it's Republic of Ireland or just Ireland not Southern Ireland. It is correct to say Northern Ireland though. Nice road trip though and another great video. The wiper on my MGB GT used to fall off all the time but it was just a push fit with plastic friction grouves inside, crap system I have to say so I know the pain it causes when it rains and you're wipers don't do shit.
Usually not a fan of road-trip videos, but make an exception for Harry, he curates his trip so well, the content and editing is so good, and Mrs. M could teach many other You Tubers about shooting good video. The downer, I wish I had the time to do these kinds of trips!
Good to see you over here and experience the various roads, the Jag is a wonderful car but I'd say the Fulvia would have been perfect on the tighter routes. In fact the Fulvia would be perfect for some of the Deja-Vu events that run over classic rally stages (non-competitive) with a lot of former competitive drivers. It would be a good way to experience something of the flavour of period Irish rallying and roads in an appropriate car.
Saw the thumbnail in my RUclips feed but couldn’t see the whole title, guessed ‘that looks like Northern Ireland “… moved there from England in 1997, left in 2019, so glad its roads are getting recognition and can’t wait to watch the video!
Hats off for the skids up the hill, the Harrismonkey must be proud! Much respect for your camerawoman, she must have the patience of a Saint! Have you tried the new retro Blaupunkts? Would look ace in the XJC…
Great road trip but you’ve missed out by doing just a qtr. Southern Ireland and the quality of its roads are amazing and if you start off in Dublin head over the Wicklow mountains and pick up the Wild Atlantic Way, roads such as the Connor pass await and are just stunning. Well worth a week away.

I very much enjoyed that. The Jag is fabulous, looks terrific and sounds epic. Nice to see you over here in our wee country. I live in Londonderry so right on the border of Northern Ireland and Donegal. I think you lose sight of the beauty when you see it everyday. It’s a nice welcome when someone such as yourself reminds me how lucky I am to have all that on my doorstep. I’ve travelled them roads in everything from my motor bike to my artic fuel tanker but never been lucky enough to do them in something like an XJC, perhaps some day. Glad you enjoyed your visit. O’ and Buttermere, I was there at the start of the summer. That is a whole new level of breathtaking.

@@Mike7O7O alright Mike, thanks for that. Both informative, and bigoted.
Absolutely ❤️ Northern Ireland so much to do and see and inhabited by a really friendly population, Have done a similar trip recently and would definitely go back again. Jag is fab Harry 👍
My favourite Jag. So beautiful. Driven as it should be, vigorously, spiritedly. Love that part of the world.
Live on the Causeway coast and have enjoyed many great drives in my Caterhams through the years.. Early summer Sunday mornings al are when the superbikes come out to play 😉
She sounds so lovely. All the musical accompaniment you really need for a nice road trip. Lovely, lovely motor. Well done. Beautiful restoration.
My goodness, do I love this Jaguar. I watched most of the restoration videos. The sound of the V12 is spectacular as it rows through the gears. The color is beautiful as well. Always loved the look of these. Great road trip video and one I will watch again!
Hats off again to Mrs M, she’s an ace camera operator!
21.44, opposite lock in the rain, old jag, no wipers… quite epic, not for the faint-hearted.
Ah! Donegal thanks for the great roadtrip video. Brings back memories of the narrow roads with “SLOW” painted on the road in the dips then over the hump “SLOWER” with a 90 on to a one lane bridge. That Irish sense of humour.
Makes a change to be able to drive a sensible speeds. The 20 mph infection that is in Britain is a disaster.
Finally again a genuine roadtrip-in-a-classic report, love it. No BS on stats, figures and testroads, just enjoying car and roads. Keep ‘m coming!
Locals prefer to call Southern Ireland the Republic of Ireland, great vid as usual
Thats because its name is the Republic of Ireland.Malin head the most northerly point in Ireland could hardly be called southern,
Locals call it Ireland, as that’s the name of the state. There Ireland, and there’s Northern Ireland.
That V12 when its climbing up the rev range sounds glorious 🎵👍
What a car. What a country. What a trip. Another classic from Harry!
We did a similar route in February this year - managed a selfie on the Giant's Causeway with no one else there!! Great video - amazing sound from that V12.
Awesome roadtrip. and amazing looking jag!
The exhaust note is just wonderful.....now i appreciate the benefits of the manual gearbox over an auto of the day.
Nice bit of sideways action going on there Harry.
You're a brave man taking a car to Ireland without wipers, Rainex or not.
Wow Harry, the Jag sounds tremendous, and looks absolutely fantastic. I never realized how good these V12’s can sound. Fantastic motor. Enjoy it.
An excellent road trip, Harry. Loved the tail-outs on the rain soaked twisties. Ah, the Jaguar V12. Long may she reign, even in the rain.
I find polymer sealant (as for painted surfaces) works amazingly on glass (after thorough cleaning of course), without the fogging rain-x tends to cause.
Made the same discovery myself too recently. The big positive I found is that the sealants last months instead of weeks like rain x.
Which brand? And with sealant is there no smearing with wipers at full chat?
I have family in Ireland and some of the roads down the west coast heading towards Limerick are absolutely fantastic.
Love the road trips, Harry and this was a beaut. Your carry-on attitude by not allowing the u/s wipers to ruin your trip - fantastic! Oh and the V12 sounded magnificent as well. 🤩
Manual v12, green colour, coupe coachwork, no need for anything else. Absolutely pure magic Harry, by far the best car in your garage IMHO
Great stuff, Harry, reminded me of my own trips up there, happy days. The Jaguar seemed to be in its element. I really enjoy the enthusiasm in your approach to the road trips, a true glass half full traveller. Great video, more of these trips, please.
XJC :total elegance! V12 soundtrack: better than any music! Video was pure joy, keep at it!
What a great tour in a great car. The engine sounded really fantastic. I loved the filming. Thanks for sharing the trip with us. Cheers Bob
The beautiful line/colour of the car, the sound of the engine, clicking of the gears, etc etc... I love that Jag. 😍
Stunning part of the world in addition to the truly enviable V12!
Another great video from Mr and Mrs Medcalf thanks it was great watching the car put though its paces after the fantastic refurb thankyou
This really makes me want to visit the whole of the UK. Such stunning country.
Fantastic trip !!
Loved hearing you row through the gears and the exhaust was singing “more”
I know most people say it and I hate to be that guy but it's Republic of Ireland or just Ireland not Southern Ireland.
Southern Ireland and the quality of its roads are amazing and if you start off in Dublin head over the Wicklow mountains and pick up the Wild
Atlantic Way, roads such as the Connor pass await and are just stunning. Well worth a week away.
just excellent harry, love seeing a car like this being properly used not tucked up in some collection!! . This is the best car in your collection just superb ,best thing on the internet , thats it you have prompted me to road trip my new to me XJR through the rockies in Canada ,Bamff / Jasper yahoo!! always a pleasure thank you
Love the howl of the V12, putting the back end out on a 50 year old car, priceless 🐐
So good to hear you stretching the legs of the Jaaaag through the gears. Sounds absolutely superb, you must just want to keep working that gearbox so you can listen to that glorious engine. Great trip… apart from the rain! 😆
Yesterday we did the Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede-a-Rede Rope Bridge and took the same ferry. Doing the whole island - the video was serendipitous. Cheers from a fan of Harry’s Garage from Canada.
Right on time, everytime.
Oh my goodness Harry! Overtaking on A and B Roads in the rain and without wipers! Mrs M must have had her eyes closed. Of all the many things that happened to my XJ12C, I never had a problem with the wipers 🙂. I always struggled to get 12 mpg with my auto box - I could even dream of 18! Jag sounds incredible and the handling is amazing. Fantastic that you made this such a useable classic. Pure joy! Many thanks.
Among the BEST OF BRITISH cars ever. And what splendid restoration Job! Such pleasure watching and hearing it speeding along these incredibly narrow country roads, courageously defying all potential tractors & bulls ! Sincere admiration from Berlin
Very entertaining to listen to your experience on Irish roads. I'm from the west of Ireland and that's what we are used to here. You're always welcome to Ireland Harry. Would love to spot one of your cars some day.
"Southern Ireland". What an insult.
I’m from Tennessee and these 70’s XJ’s are some of my favorites vehicles and Harry’s is my absolute favorite. I see them even here in the southern states however, because no one knows how to work on them especially the fuel system people pull the v12 out of them and just put a Chevrolet 350 in them. I would love to have one with the v12s and have it sorted out.
12:08 "It's a bit Irish that" Wow, Harry. I think you'll find the north and south of our country were just fine the way they were and easy for all to comprehend before our lovely neighbours intervened.
Don't mind the begrudgers, Harry as we say in Ireland.
Wrong arena for that chat. The guys a car enthusiast, not a historian.
@@johncreamer3318 "A bit Irish" is a derogatory term that means "a bit stupid". It's predicated on the belief that many English people have that the Irish are not smart. It's an ethnic slur and should never be used.
@@kjh23gk I've never, in my 41 years on the island met an Irishman that would be offended by this in the context of a 60 yr old farmer/car journalist/enthusiast in passing comment/joking. FFS the guy is over enjoying and even promoting the place! Just no need for complaints IMO.
@@kjh23gk agree, visitors need to respect the people and history of the places they are visiting, and educate themselves beforehand about the do's and dont's of the culture and the use of appropriate language.
The soundtrack of that V12 is truly awesome, a truly beautiful car!
Great video Harry. A shame Jaguar didn't offer a more sporty XJC from the factory as the car transformed with a manual gearbox and an exhaust that enables you to hear how good a Jaguar V12 can sound.
For me, the Jag eclipsed even the beautiful Irish scenery. A truly glorious car and I love how Harry drives it like it’s meant to be driven 👏
An unfortunate colour though.
Lovely car. Back in 1993 and just about to pass my driving test I spent way too much time browsing autotrader and the local paper for the fastest car within my £400 budget. Jaguar V12s were always top of the list. Sadly insurance costs made them a non starter and I ended up with a Metro…..!
Oh yes, insurance costs were the only reason V12 Jaguars were out of reach for someone with a £400 budget...
@@pistonburner6448 running costs would have been a bit scary but it was the £3000 insurance quote which was the real frightener!
@@alansorbie4038 RUclips won't let me reply to you, sorry. No matter how I try to clean out any words that could possibly be interpreted as 'problematic' by any stretch of the imagination...RUclips just keeps removing it. I have no idea why.
Bravo to your spirit ,bad luck on the wipers but you carried on, that sound …magical
What a lovely place and fantastic roads… - seems right place to bring my Harley Sportster and enjoy its mighty torque 😇
Welcome to Ireland Harry, it’s great to have you here. My neighbour was a Donegal woman and a great story teller and I can hear her strong Donegal accent on every town you mention. Let’s just say that aaarrrrrdrrrragh is a beautiful wee town 😀
Great Video Harry! and at last we see you in the Emerald Isle! You must come back and do the "Wild Atlantic Way" it's a coastal drive from Donegal (North West) to Cork (South coast). The V12 sounds amazing 😀
Thanks, Harry, for letting us joining you.
The south of Ireland doesn't bite, and the people are some of the kindest you will ever meet 🤗
except some of the ones from there in here kicking off because he called it Southern Ireland, they don't seem too friendly to me
@@ant2312 I'm sure all Harry's viewers in Ireland are friendly and would give him a warm welcome. The "Southern Ireland" thing is a slight bugbear for many though. There is no such place. There are two jurisdictions. Northern Ireland and Ireland. We all know Harry means no harm and is speaking from a purely geographical perspective but as we've seen in recent years, the island of Ireland is a very political place.
I hope Harry can make a future road trip where he hops across to Rosslare and travels the south coast to Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Clare to take in the Cliffs of Moher. Some very challenging roads.
