I've been playing a shared game with some friends and we originally built a longhouse in the Meadows next to the starting stones then moved to a small Meadows island close to the middle of the map with a smaller Plains island close enough to bridge to it. It makes for a relaxed place for our main base with us being able to grow crops up to Plains in one spot while having a harbor, storage/crafting hut, barn, main building and portal hub in one area.
@@JPValheim Both islands are in the ocean actually, they just happen to be a literal stone’s throw away from each other though there are several large islands with plains nearby ours. Makes for easy harvesting of black metal and other bits not to mention other materials.
Pro tip: If you build in the plains you can raise the ground with a hoe to form indestructible stone wall around your base. This will prevent the strong enemys from and obliterating your build like butter. Just be wary of deathsquitos. This defense of course can work in any biome too
I managed to find a relatively small island with Mistlands, Plains, Black Forest and Mountain. Started building in the Plains. It's also quite funny to see all kinds of creatures running into each other. :-)
Thats one of my favorite parts of Valheim! I've always wanted to make a base between the Plains and Mistlands just to see how the enemies fight each other
I'v setup camp in the plains more towards dark forest, but I've already seen seeker broods and ticks take on fulings, loxes and skeletons. So in a matter of speaking, I've seen loxes with ticks. 😁 During raid events it gets even crazier...
@HoudiniNL You should record these interactions and get AI Attenborough to narrate the documentary. It would be a valuable contribution to the valheim community.
I like my main base to be where multiple biomes intersect. Preferably swamp/plains/black forest/ and one other if lucky. When you're in or around the base the monster will fight each other. Leaving resources to just pickup
Good video. I like small islands personally. Easy to spawn proof to block raids. I have built outposts in Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains and Mistlands but not fully decked out bases. You mentioned deathquitos flying over walls, but I have never been attacked by one getting past my maximum height raised earth walls.
Me, too. Islands are interesting. I took an Island just south of a black forest with a bunch of ore the first week of gameplay. It was easy to defend against trolls and also ended up being the site of my first Burial Chamber directly under my keep.
The meadows are great. The only con I can think of is, it's so non threatening that you can end up becoming complacent, and not having proper base defenses by the time areal raid comes. Building in the Black Forest, or next to it, might seem dangerous because of Trolls, but it will force you to build stakes, and layers of walls, and make real defenses. Or at least moats.
big massive base in meadows with everything i need then just have portal to every biomes in the world then make little houses, blacksmiths, farms, or storage place in those biomes then happy
I use the devcommand "env Clear" when I record videos so its easy to see whats going on. There are gamma mods you can use that do something similar without devcommands
@@JPValheim wait what?! I did not even know that was a thing! Thank you for this! And yep I do use gamma mod, but its mostly effective at night rather than morning where swamp is still pretty dark, and color distorts if I brighten it up more
I feel you, honestly that feeling is probably the best thing to go off of! Theres something about seeing a view, or seeing a view with monsters from different biomes fighting, I just love it
I've never made a base close to a greydwarf spawner but I've been meaning too. I've only done that sort of thing in the swamp with surtling cores but I can see how you'd get loads of wood and resin if you were around the spawner all the time
@JPValheim tbh I only now caught on. The spawner is at a separate location, portal "Fight Club", originally intended to get some skill levels. Next game, I think I will make at least one base with integrated arena.
@@sneezyfido That sounds like fun! I've been keeping a clearing near my base instead of walls; and I find it to be much more fun that way! Now when a threatening monster shows up, I just run off to the clearing and kill it there
@@JPValheim Hey man, I asked Irongate by e-mail about this, and Josefine, who works with them said this: "The player characters have the blessing of Odin, so they aren't undead in the same way the draugr or the skeletons are".
That's my biggest hope too, because even with the silver burning we're gonna die A LOT (as I hope, because death is FUN). I just love the sound the spirit burning does to undead hehe
This was very cool ! Let's hope you didn't jinx anything about the Ashlands tho, who knows, maybe they'll have a bit more resistance to silver than others
yeah right! I have a feeling that they will be weak to silver; just because it helps to justify the silver sword's absurd upgrade costs. It is the most expensive weapon in the game to make and fully upgrade; after all!

That sounds fun! Having a safe island to use in the Plains would be wicked!

Ive never tried a max height wall, that makes sense. I was referencing like, typical wooden walls people build jaja

I was just attacked by several yesterday while on top of my max height raised earth walls - while I was building them.

this is so true i built half of a moat (got lazy) and forgot about it lol
I love building in the Plains because of the relaxing soundtrack :)
Right! Its lovely. I feel that way about the dvergr tower music :) Makes me want to build!
Valheim’s soundtrack is seldom mentioned in reviews but it is part of what makes this game so enjoyable.
Personally if you are a new player either the Meadows or Dark Forest
Very true xD Black Forest is too much for most newbies though jaja

I make a small base in every biome. Bronze refinery in the Black Forest, Iron refinery in the Swamp, farm in the plains, etc.
I love building in oceans because it has the lowest instances meaning you can build a bigger base!
Thats a great point, less lag :)
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it :)

In my current world, a greydwarf spawner plus obliterator is responsible for a lot of coal, as well.
And if you need more - feed the kiln.

I build my base round a spawner of greydwarf, where i can get ∞ stone and wood for my building
Thats a good idea especially cause the spawner needs you to be around for it to work; so your base close is important!
Can you plant any tree in the plains?
all except maybe swamp trees, as he didn`t show that in the video
I think you can plant any tree that is available with the cultivator in the plains (Beech, Birch, Oak, Pine, Fir)
Wait, if silver weapons burns undead, and the players are, by the lore, undead aswell, I think... why doesn't silver burns us on PvP?
Woah. This comment is too deep for me to handle jajaja

Hot knife through butter! Thats the phrase !
And + for meadows u can get sausages from draugr farm
Thats true! I forgot about the Draugr villages in the meadows. Those are fun
Black Forest on a peninsula with water to my back ha
Oooh penninsulas, thats a good idea

What is with the butter obsession?
I live off butter! I love it!!! BUTTER!!!!
OK, so the saying is "like a hot knife through butter". Saying they make your walls butter, or make you look like butter, makes literally no sense.
I just love butter really so anytime I get to say "butter" I feel my love for butter thrive
