Italy is such a beautiful nation to visit. I use to go to Tuscany with my mother, my sister, and my great-uncle when my sister and I were little girls in the 1980s.
Ruby- love that you could enjoy extended time with your friend from uni through this trip! You’re right- it’s often not as easy to schedule time with uni friends post-graduation. If you’d travel well together, a trip can be a great option! 😊

Last summer I went to Italy for one and a half weeks, we drove over 24 hours up there and then stayed for a week and a half, and then took our 24-hour drive back home. It was so incredibly hot! But I'm glad I got to see a lot of very nice things. We went to Pisa and Volterra and so many other places, it was amazing.
It's so beautiful, thank you for sharing! It's a dream to visit Italy someday, especially Florence. The art and history seems incredible. I'd even put up with the heat!
I would love you too make a video about planning trips like this and the other ones you've been on this year. I always find it overwhelming so rarely do it.

I went to Rome once with my sister and the hotels there are so lovely, mine was exactly like yours, flowers on the patio, lots of bird song and animals walking around ❤️ we’d fall asleep to the sound of crickets and awake to birds, one night would be boiling hot and the next would be thunderstorms but the days were always sunny ☀️

4:09 same! We spent a couple of days in Milano and everyone was so nice and supportive. My friends and I couldn’t speak Italian and the Italians understandably no German so we all tried our best with English. Sometimes we all had to speak with gestures and stuff but it worked and it was such a nice experience how friendly and kind everyone was. 😊

As an Italian Tuscany is not my fav place...I've lived in Tuscany and saw most of the places you saw. I'm glad u liked them and enjoyed ur time with Blakney. Funnily enough, while u were there I was in the Uk( where among other things I visited beautiful libraries) and what you say about Italian people being nice I can say about British people. (My opinion is based on my being to the uk 5 tiimes so far and working with them as well). Maybe next time I come to your country I'll let u know in case we might catch up. Since it is evident u love my country I advise u to come to my city Turin which is stunning. I'd be glad to be ur knowledgeable guide, showing great places and bookshops😊 Thanks Ruby for sharing. The party with blue-white was the victory of Napels in the Italian soccer tournament. I was in that area in June, there it was exactly the same (and even much more flags and stuff)
I was looking for a comment saying this: exactly! it was a big thing for Napoli team fans, because it's been 30something years since they won last time (and soccer is very popular and important for some people here in Italy )
Lovely video Ruby!!!! If you will also notice the Duomo is tilting as well. So it must be the ground. Another great book I would recommend is Walter Isaacson's biography of Leonardo. Not only is it about Florence's favorite son but also a look at Tuscany of the time period.
You think the tilting of the tower of Pisa is sad? Look up the Swedish regal warship Wasa/Vasa. It's a huge ship they spent years building, and on it's maiden voyage they got just a few hundred meters out from the dock before it capsized and sank, drowning a lot of people. It was salvaged in the 60's, over 300 years later, and is now preserved in it's own museum in Stockholm. It's sad so many people died, but at the same time it is HILARIOUS that we have an entire museum dedicated to the biggest failure of our history.
Ahh the clips of Florence filled me with the best nostalgia from when I went in March! 🥹 And yes I would say going in spring when it is a bit cooler is definitely a better time to go xx Such a wholesome vlog though 🤍

This video brought back so many lovely memories for me. My best friend and I took a 3 week trip to Italy in the summer after our first year of university. I've known her my whole life and we lived together at uni. We started in Venice and interrailed to Verona and then finally Rome. So many moments from this video reminded me of that trip but what you said Ruby, about that unsolicited time together, is what struck me. My best friend and I now live over 200 miles apart and have busy, fulfilling lives. I will always cherish the memories we made when we spent a hot July together in Italy. Such a special treat to share a holiday with a friend. I did a walking/ camping trip on my own with a tour company and got to see Florence a second time and fell in love with it even more and was able to easily navigate with out getting lost. I didn’t like Rome when I went as it was way too busy for me and though Florence was busy not as bad as Rome. Only two of us from the group wanted to see the leaning tower of Pisa so we went together on our own. I’d love to go back with my husband but he may find it too busy for him but I hope he will let us visit even for a short break x

As soon as I saw the title of the video, I thought: who would go with me on a trip like this? how would it be? I had a momentary existential crisis because I realized that I don't have friendships like that 🤧
Florence is my absolute favourite city in the world. I went there in early autumn a few years ago (and did indeed go to Rome from there haha) and it was simply magical. I spent a whole day in the Uffizi Gallery and loved it so much. Guess I need to go back :')
I also went on on holiday with a friend for the first time ever this year! I went to France with my friend and it made the experience so much richer because we both planned it and then experienced a new place together. We made some new memories and even though we only spent a few days there, it felt like we were there for longer because we had so much time to talk.
My best friend for more than 15 years lives 250 miles (about 400 km) away from me. We met while on a trip abroad so we've never lived close to each other. While we were teens we used to visit each other during almost every break so we saw each other about 3-4 times a year. (This was also long before social media, so we stayed in touch throught Letters, emails and phone calls) Since we grew up and work full time we see each other evan more rarely. If we are lucky our summer vacations coincides with each other, if not, we just see each other around christmas and new year and whenever one of us can get a Friday of so we can go over the weekend. You know you've found a real friend when your friendship survives these conditions❤

What a lovely video! Italy is such a beautiful country and I always loved the destinations of our family vacations there. I am glad that you guys had a great time as well! We also visited Rome two times but never got to Florence, Pisa or Milan. Venice was nice though! The BnB approach seems interesting to me, as I am only used to camping. Certainly something that I need to give a go in the future as well! Have you found a favourite spot/building in Italy yet? Mine is the Pantheon in Rome... but like I said, I have a lot left to see. 😊
There's a really great story about Michelangelo's David and Cellini's Perseus with the Head of Medusa that I learned when I was there. There's an argument that David was partly commissioned in response to the exile of the Medici family from Florence (essentially the most powerful family in Renaissance Italy), him being the slayer of giants. After the return of the Medici to the city, Perseus was commissioned to stand next to David, holding Medusa's head to turn him into stone, to symbolise the might of the Medici. Such an interesting idea!
The innocence museum ( cant remember how to spell the real name ) is a bit like hetty feather apart from the founding hospital are not anonymous but it just reminded me, anyone else? Looks like an amazing holiday too!
