@@Feja2503 Bodhisattvas can be manifested in either gender for sure. That's why Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezi) is the "goddess Kannon-sama" in Japan. I don't think Bodhisattvas care for human gender stereotypes, but the may be giggling at humans making so much fuss about it... And as more stories are told about these beings, they become older and older, slowly but surely. And often some of these beings are ancient even in the first telling of their stories. Also remember that in religions and myths, even gods can become ill or die, and they do so in a great many ways, including old age. And on a metaphysical level, as stories age and details are lost, the figures in those stories begin to seem more mysterious and more ancient due to the missing or changed details of those stories.

A quick way to tell someone is new to the SMT franchise. When they hear Mara talk, they respond with some variation of "They knew!"
It's pretty clear to anyone with eyes that they knew..
Wether they know or not, while the conversation does match with the mythological lore, anyone with a dirty mind will think too deeply on the wrong thing regardless. Needless to say, it was meant to have double meaning. So yes, they knew.

My guy, it doesn't matter whether your a veteran or a noob, dick jokes are obvious to all of us and they did, in fact, know exactly what they were doing. The irony is that the actual lore in buddhism follows their dialog well, yet it still makes for a fantastic bunch of dick jokes.
My favorite Mara joke is in Nocturne Remaster when two Manikins were begging Baphomet to summon mara, they referred to him as an "Absolute Unit"
Look at the offer from the elephants perspective. Your old boss, who rode you everywhere, who is one of the highest class of demons on your mythology (correct me if I'm wrong), offers to let you ride him instead so you could feel what it was like to be them. That's a pretty cool offer

And the apex award for facing the Slayer and not defeating the slayer per-say but surviving him, you gain the ability to fuse the Baron's of Hell, and along the way leading up to it, you get to recruit/fuse the other signature enemies (Revenents, Cacodemons, Pinkies and more
This was such a pleasant surprise. It’s so heartwarming that Mara is such a standup guy that he’d let the elephant ride him.

Old world religions and traditions are overflowing with anatomy and sexual references. Even leaving the Indian/Japanese punnery aside, portrayal of a god representing the evils of temptation as phallic in incarnation is very appropriate considering all the manner of evil humanity will visit upon itself in pursuit of prurient satisfaction. The questioning of whether “they knew what they were doing” and similar pearl-clutching feighning is an artifact and echo of the judeao-Christian impact on global culture following evangelical/ colonial spread of shame based cultural sensitivities. Prior to the widespread impact of such cultural mores, this would have been both a common and obvious sort of humor.
I mean, speaking of christian symbols, try having a closer look to represantation of Mary (the ones with all the veils around her), or of Jesus (pay attention to his sculpted, shapely abs XD ).
The artists they hired to make those had quite a sense of humour :D
