I know the writing of the V sucked but at the end that's not what's going on at all. You can see he's certainly contemplating the knowledge passed on to him from Lucifer and how/whether to break free of the Mandala System. The last thing this game is saying in this ending is that he's maintaining the cycle lol. It's entirely about the opposite of that. In fact it goes beyond the cycle entirely and looks at the big picture in the SMT universe.

I feel like I should mention something, in megaten lucifer and satan are 2 very seperate entities. Satan is law aligned, an arbiter sent by god in order to test humanity. While lucifer is the fallen angel who rebelled and offered humanity knowledge, spreading the seeds of chaos and free will.
Something I love that’s consistant with Lucifer in all the SMT games is that doesn’t curse you for heresy like YHVH and his servants but respects the power and will of all who fight him, while even respecting their differing beliefs. He truly is YHVH’s opposite as an all-powerful being that embodies the unlimited freedom that Chaos brings.

You'd think given you have to beat Shiva to get this fight, they'd have made Lucifier Phase 2 a bit harder. Instead he's arguably easier than Phase 1, losing his resists and such. Phase 3 could be harder too really.
Actually it seems the intended path was to fight him in NG+ presumably as a fresh build. The quests stack in subsequent playthroughs and you don't have to do them again.

From what I can underatand, the ending does turn out to be a world without gods and demons with the protagonist eternally watching the world in solitude. But it's also implied that it won't last forever, with the focus being put on the created protagonist, and the god protagonist. Is there a cycle of the protagonist taking the throne from himself?
I hope they get to keep their nahobino form in the end unlike the true ending of creation, I think theres gonna be all new motifs and ideas they tackle in the second half maybe more like the TDE in nocturne

Doing that would bring the series to an end. The Mandala System isn't something you can actually escape from without ending all of reality, and anybody that actually pays attention to SMT's story should know how impossibly doomed an attempt it is to disconnect a whole world from the Mandala OR end reality to be free of it. Especially considering that YHVH tried to abuse a loophole to do the former and got absolutely blasted by the Great Will for it, while the latter almost ends up happening in SMTIII - only for the botched Conception and Lucifer's misguided usurpation of YHVH to lead into SMTV. (Though The White in SMT IV illustrate the full pointlessness of cutting down reality.) The matter of the fact is, reality likes to exist and it needs to observe itself in order to do so, and a humanity divorced from that consensus isn't looked kindly upon - as far as we know, non-consensual humanity robs energy from the universe, weakening it and dooming themselves to a finite and non-renewable supply of energy, destined to fizzle away and fall into a dead-end vortex without the Mandala System. The only difference is, there would be no 'false gods' to crawl after the next Conception and return that energy to the cycle. So of course 'all things must come to an end' - much like in SMTIII's True Demon Ending, your effort and time was spent on the absolute dumbest outcome for the entire multiverse, it was a flex beyond a flex and if an SMT VI ever comes out and follows forward from V, I imagine it would follow from this doomed state where the Mandala System needs to send someone in to tie the world back into the cycle, much like it did to assassinate YHVH's uppity ass.

I always hated endings like this tbh ff13 for example and stories that end with it going back to the beginning or infinite loops no change etc. Feels like a slap to the face in my opinion.
