I was wondering how quick releases worked. Showing so many in the intro allowed me to build a heuristic for how they work in general so I could figure my own out. Amazing.
Dude that quick release intro was toooooooooooooooooo loooooooonnnnnnngggggggggg!!!!!! 😂🤣
Yeah. I was trying something new. Never again. Lol
@@TommyCallaway Dude, I loved it. I actually showed it to someone because I thought it was great! The reasons I thought it was great: it's EXACTLY what I look like, trying all the various QR options at home after ordering 1 of each. Takes forever, and it's stupid. But it's real. Great vid. I decided on the same QR rc2 option as well! Switching from Manfrotto 577 plates on EVERYTHING. They're too damn big, and it's overkill on my equipment. thanks for the video!
@@david243121 Thank you! Glad you found something useful here :)
@@TommyCallaway No way! Loved it. Hypnotized and fulfilled!
I'm with both camps here. It was both great, and far too long.
Years later and the intro's still so satisfying.
Dude you’re the man. Your production quality and to the point explanations have helped me find what I need. Thanks again!
Surprisingly satisfying watching your intro. Plus, you answered my all questions in record time. Great job!
I can't believe this video production quality is from a 6 year old video, crazy good.
IT WAS GREAT, INTRODUCTION SAID EVERYTHING, NO NEED ANYTHING ELSE, GREAT SYNTHESIS, A HYPNOTIZING SOUND, MY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE EDITOR ... IT WAS GREAT.
Best intro i've heard! So pleasing to hear all the clicks and lock sounds!
This quick release plate is convenient! The camera is attached to the tripod quickly and is very good! I also have four because it is convenient. The video was very interesting! I will come to play again. With love from Japan :)
Best guide to buying a quick release plate.
It’s no problem at all. You simply need to buy all your gear from a single brand and live inside their eco system bubble…..easy.
You can just put a cardboard spacer on top of Chinese plate to compensate for bolt length..
And you might want to slow down a bit - presentation is way to fast.
Cool AF edit at the beginning btw!! :D
Hello hello Tommy...Just enjoyed your intro and video.
True Original Click Bait...!
Here is an idea to check out:
By washers for your chinese plates...
Unscrew the 1/4 " screw and put on a washer.
There is a tiny amount of space, on the underside, left over for this.
= Shortens the screw sticking up
and
= Makes more space for fingers on the underside.
Greetings from Denmark
Nice video! The audio Rocks!
Thoughts on the intro? :)
Tommy Callaway It was great! Also looked like it took quite a while to film and edit all that.
It did! Took a few hours to get all the shots, and more hours to edit it together.
That was fabulous.
Liked it. Very pro.
it could be more short, maybe 20 seconds
Genious intro.
Wow! Best intro of the whole internet!
Useful video, but, deciding on which plates to use should have included at least a mention of Arca Swiss. They are super popular. I was listening to the end to find out what you didn't like about them.
I’ve learned a lot in the past 5 years. I would mention them if I made this video today.
@@TommyCallaway Okay, thank you for the reply.
Manfrotto no longer makes there items in Rome and is basted fully in red China.
I would not be socked if the product is made by the same company with just a name that brings the price up.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll go elsewhere. Sellouts
Now, I want to know what all those other mounts are. I'm shopping.
That wasn't an intronthst was just dope content mixing visuals with audio. Love it. I actually have one of those plate. Lost my tripod but had the plate on my cam. The manfrotto name brand
How do you prevent the camera from rotating and eventually slipping off the screw?
You could probably just use a little bit of tape, wrap it around the metal ring, kind of like a ribbon, to make it easier to lift up :)
base plate is not flush, so the adapter plate always sit at the end of your fluid head plate.
also, not compatible with gimbal, as the base adapter is not flush
Does the manfrotto wiggle around when locked like the knock off version does…….
Great video, thanks
What about the edelkrone one? I bought it it works with everything that has a screw on it .
Thanks for explanation! It's really useful, if you want to mount your camera overhead to produce videos. :)
That intro is just a flex
The manfrotto plate has a serious flaw that you failed to mention. It will not fit most tripods or monopods because of the thickness under the safety release latch. Most tripod base is too wide for the plate to fit level. It’s a big dealbreaker.
WTF IS GOING ON IN THIS INTRO LMAO.... No worries I’m staying around for it because you’re showing a lot of versatility! 😃
This rocks! Thanks for the info
I wouldn't choose the R2 by Manfrotto. Arca Swiss is far more common and I'd always stick to it (for example Peak Design Clip or a L-bracket on your camera)! Therefore Novoflex Q-mount for me is the best choice! ;)
Hey Tommy, do you have an update on this? are you still using the same plates and how are keeping? Also did you have similar recommendation for the slide in style rather the photography click in style?
The little D ring comes off on the cheap ones after too much torquing and over-use, but the base-plates remain usable. I would recommend getting the brand name plates if you can, they seem to be more durable in the long run.
@@TommyCallaway noted! thanks!
Super smooth intro. Love the rhythm
I love the intro, at first I was like "this guy knows the struggle. He understands " than I was like "ok we get the picture, move on please " lol thank you for your efforts nonetheless
Yeah I feel ya. The only way to get better is by trying new things. :-)
It was a little too long, but I didn' mind.
Why Manfrotto over Arca Swiss? And if those screws are too long for the Viltrox/Metabones foot, easy solve should be to remove the ring-screw entirely, place a few hardware store washers on the ring side, then re-insert the ring-screw.
The manfrotto plate allows you to set your camera down on a table or other flat surface without tipping over, while the screws on arca Swiss generally don’t let you do that.
True. That's the only downside I can think of about Arca Swiss. The advantage is that there are a wide array of plates and quick releases. Quick release clamps like this have 3 positions, unlocked, locked but allow the plate to slide, and fully locked.
www.ebay.com/itm/CL-50LS-Quick-Release-Plate-Clamp-1-4-3-8-For-Tripods-Ball-Heads-Arca-Swiss/202310427038
Ah, yeah, I don't like anything to slide ever. :-)
The sliding is a feature. Provides added versatility and easy incremental adjustment without moving the entire tripod. When fully locked, it doesn't slide at all. It's optional.
With the Arca Swiss you ALWAYS need two hands to lock the camera in place. With Manfrotto RC2 you can hold the tripod in one hand and the camera in the other and connect them without putting any of them down.
Great info. Thank you!
Dope intro , thanks for the insight .
How do you find a quick release plate that matches your tripod
You don't you screw the manfrotto 323 to the plate for the tripod. So from the bottom it's like, tripod > tripodhead > baseplate that came with the tripod > manfrotto 323 > 200PL-14 > Camera.
The intro was great. Didn't watch all of it, but it certainly was groovy.
glad you showed the 323rc2 fits well on the joby slr zoom head. I really love the 200pl mount system
I'm still using it today. :)
@@TommyCallaway Would this work on manfrotto500ah fluid head as well as rs2 gimbal?
Hi Sir ... My tripod head is mhxpro3w manfrott but my small rig cage is 2310 ... You have any code to suggest for quick release plate for cage and tripod head so it works simultaneously & thanks...
What's your audio equipment man, it sounds great
Thanks! All the gear I used for this video is in the description.
worth the price of admission just for the first 80 seconds
best intro ever 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hi Tommy, my tripod does not have Manfrotto, it uses the Pergear TH3 Pro DSLR Camera Tripod Ball Head. Can you please recommend me a plate I could use with this head and the Zhiyun Crane 2? I appreciate your help.
Can you tell me what is the first quick-release in the intro please?
90 seconds of watching plates click. awesome.
Try the Quick-Release SLIK DQ-10, You will be superhappy, i promiss,... after 35 Years of Photography, that one is the most used right now with my GEAR... B&H NY...
Did well on the intro
I like the Manfrotto best too. But, it is a problem, that the adapter plate is not totally flat. I cannot fint a way to attach this to my slider. The slider has a plate that is larger then the Manfrotto, so it cant sit flush on the plate. How did you tackle this issue ?
Useful review 👍
great video
I need one for the sony 200 600. Is there something you would recommend? I would go with the peak design dual plate
god that intro was the sexiest thing i've ever seen in my lifeeeee 🔥🔥🔥🔥
In China, this quick release plate only sold at 4 dollars or even less!!
Have you had any issues with the Chinese knock off? Ive seen people post on amazon that the lever of the quick release would snap off
I’ve had the D ring come off on a few of them, but the base plate portion has been fine.
@@TommyCallaway well that's good to hear! I'd mainly be buying it for the plate to attach to the tripod not for the one that goes under the camera :) thank you so much!
Did you have any issues with the Manfrotto 323 RC2 bottom not being flat? I would love to know if you found out any solutions :)
I just got 5 of these quick release plates only to realize it doesn't sit flush on any of my tripods. It's just a waste of money. I'd probably go pickup the newer quick release.
@@oscarmini yes I bought ifootage seastars instead, they work okay but have their own issues.
Tommy, no doubt a lot of time went into that intro... a bit long but nonetheless nice job. As for content, good info... it's extremely frustrating trying to find a common mounting system for the gear
4:50 "But once you get it up, then it's fine." :)
Thanks. Very helpful.
No prob jay. Thanks for watching.
@@TommyCallaway My pleasure
@@TommyCallaway Have you tried the plate adapter on a gimbal? That's the only thing giving me pause
can anybody help me with finding a plate to use for Benro A-350ex?
good info and really nice voice
The intro is 10 times longer than it should be
Thank you. Agreed. Haha
your audio is amazing. what did you use to record your voice?
Thanks! Links to all the equipment I use is in the video description. :)
Quick Release Plate Overload in the beginning !! 😅
2:35 camera
Dude, I just ordered 4 RC2 - got my first one, and I cannot screw it onto my monopod or tripod, dude to the STUPID screw on the bottom preventing it from laying flat. How do I remedy this? Or do I need to find another solution?
Wow, that’s incredibly frustrating. On my other tripod plates I screw it in and push it all the way to the back so it hangs off a little bit and I’ve gotten it to work with everything that way, though it’s not centered it works.
@@TommyCallaway See, I I want to TAKE OFF my 501 QR completely. and JUST use the RC2. I want to attach it to something like this: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1286942-REG/gitzo_gm4562_series_4_carbon.html
But the circumference is juuuust too wide for the stupid RC2 'lump'. Ugh. I'm soooo incredibly frustrated. I have no idea where to go from here, but to just revert back to the big 501 plates that I have no everything :( Ugh. WHY, hasn't any company redesigned a system to be small, flat, and sturdy? It blows my mind...
In order to make something like that mono work, I have to put a 501 base plate on it, put the top plate under the RC2, then the RC2 top plate on the bottom of my camera. 2 QR systems, both top and bottom part, sandwiched together. Adding weight and more potential issues.
i love grieves man
Long intro but echoed the infuriating nature of so many different solutions to a single problem!
Chinese prices have gone up so much that you might as well just buy the real thing now.
Yeah screw the CCP. They use slave labor and tax our imports yet we’re outraged when trump taxed their exports finally
Chinese is not bad fir the price.
Hai, is the base plate (not the quick release plate) screw size of 1/4 " too?
yes
How about get the real one because they invented it instead of rewarding ip theft.
When are you going to do the plasmasword v2?
I’m going to give it a shot in the next month. Got a new 3D printer, going to try and design some cool parts.
Tommy Callaway cool beans. What about the taser glove you said you wanted to revisit? That was awesome too
Thank you. I am definitely going to revisit those soon.
Tommy Callaway awesome, thanks for replying so quickly!
nice intro!!!
Man, you makin' me want to have some chips and salsa..........
*Arca Swiss* > Manfrotto
that intro bru 😴😴
Intro was too short.
How do you know that the chinese one is made of cheap steel? Yhat wouldn't be honest in making such comment without proof..I liked your comparison, but that ladt comment is not appropriate unless you have proof..
The screws on the cheap ones have all sheered off over the years, making them unusable.
@@TommyCallaway I had an Really Right Stuff QR plate that has the screen all sheered off too, that supported my Canon FD 500mn F4.5 L lens,, the metal along the channel is sheered off. Made in USA by a reputable Company, RRS. I agree that in the past chinese products were very questionable, but nowadays, they really improved in quality even in design, as they equal and sometimes rival the their competitors in the West.
(Arca Swiss, RRS, Kimberley, Kirk, etc..), at a fraction of the price..I replaced my QR plate with one made in China, for $25.00, (192mm), and I am very happy with it. A kimberley will cost me $58.00 + Shipping + state tax., a shorter one, the P50 if I remember well. Believe, when it come to camera and lens support. I really don't try to cut corners and be cheap, I own very expensive, Gitzo tripod, Arca Swiss ballhead, Kimberley Gimball head, etc..and will never put in my system a bad quality part because it is cheap..I am not saying that all chinese photographyaccessories are good, but there us some Chinese companies that make very good products.. everyone had its own little experience with photography equipment, you have to go with your feeling..Enjoy your photography..
This is where the photography industry needs to learn from the IT industry. Baby, we have standards for EVERYTHING! USB being the ultimate example! Checkout USB 3.1 Type C. Oh it's beautiful! And don't talk to me about Apple, they always try to poison the well, all the way back from IEE1394 (Firewire) to Lightning, bleh! USB all the way. Heck, you don't even have to PAY for licensing to use the USB design, you can just use it! You only need to pay if you wish to stamp the USB logo on your device, then it needs to be tested against specification with a fee. The only thing I don't like about USB? Micro USB. It's ass. And of course, my new Sony ZV-1 comes with.... Micro USB. Sony you b@stards... /rant.
Unnecessarily too too long intro ... !!
way too long!
Agreed!
WTF!!!
Sound sooooooooooo annoying
