My computer is a Dell Optiplex 7010DT/9010DT (The Case Is A 7010DT -Based On The Regulatory Type Serial Number-, and the System is a 9010DT -Based On The Service Tag Serial Number-). It's like having a Camaro with a Corvette Drivetrain; Solid, Fast, and Reliable Computer.
I purchased a 2012 Dell Optiplex 7010 DT, it had static in the headphone port, and a dead optical drive. The company sent me a 2012 Dell Optiplex 7010 MT as a replacement. I tested both to see which was better under the same operations. I found the DT fans (80x80x20mm) to be under powered/ size in a very small chassis providing minimal air flow for cooling causing higher operating temperatures, and clock throttling with just the optical drive running a DVD. So the DT running higher temperatures will also lead to premature part failure, and a shorter life span. If you don't care about any of this because you want a computer to take up less space then the DT is your computer. If you are on the modified DT gaming computer bandwagon, seriously the DT is a very poor choice unless you can cram 90x90x30mm fans in it, unlikely without major modifications. The MT has a bigger chassis allowing for bigger fans (90x90x30mm) which moves more air (about 75%) providing very low operating temperatures while running the same optical drive, and DVD. Obviously having a bigger chassis, better cooling, and a better board, the MT is a common sense choice for gaming modifications or whatever you are going to do with it provided you are willing to give up twice the space as the DT though most gamer desks are expansive to accommodate several monitors in which the MT will fit right in. My 2012 Dell Optiplex MT has the intel i5 340GHz with 2TB Ram alongside two 2TB Western Digital HDD, four 2TB portable storages front mounted for use/ anesthetics, and a brand new Pioneer DVD/Blu-ray/CD RW optical drive. I have a lot of upgrades I need to do but for now it's faster than a brand new unit, and is capable of everything I need it to do.
I have the 2012 Dell Optiplex DT & MT, both are equally quiet to me sitting about one to two feet away from them. The optical drive in the DT is ridiculously loud but that's because it needs to be replaced with a new one. The DT runs hotter then the MT because of the smaller chassis not letting enough air flow in or out, and the cooling fans are under size/ under powered moving 75% less air than the MT. This in simple terms means the DT will have a shorter lifespan than the MT because electronics fail faster in hot environments. I know a little off the question but valuable information to know if you are trying to decide which to purchase.
It depends on what case you are speaking of. If it's from DT to MT, yes it can change cases but I don't know why it would be done as the MT board is far better than the DT. If it's from stock case to aftermarket then it will depend upon the aftermarket case specifications matching with the stock case specifications.

I would love to work with that DT case.
I have the DT variant. These machines are good for running macOS.The wasted space allows for airflow I presume.
I have the DT is a perfect choice.
Very informative.
MT is better for upgrading and gaming
DT is better for office and working purpose since it’s small in size
Your english is so damn sharp.

What size is the motherboard of the DT?
mATX
Can the Dell DT change case
The DT components are all not proprietary except the power supply and the motherboard front panel connectors.
