I would rub off the writing on the outside leather and use it as a random tote. Nobody should be close enough to you to see the writing on the metal parts. Lol
I agree. Keep the bag. Have the name removed from the areas that can readily be seen. Otherwise, give or sell it to someone who doesn't mind if it's it's a replica.

Although I agree with you about artists and the protection of their works. Ever since I saw this guy that deconstructs luxury bags here on YT, most brands quality just aren't worth the price. So if a dupe is giving, I would keep it and make the adjustments. Also, so many luxury brands have unsafe factories and pay their workers pennies but sell the bags for $$$$.

Carolyn, you are being very kind by calling it a replica when it's actually counterfeit. With that said, do not sell it. I understand your reservation about using the bag. I say paint it or try to remove the labeling with acetone and a Q-Tip.

My approach to dupes is a little different. I have two bags that are reminiscent of Bottega Venetta. I love the woven leather style. My bags are 100% leather and extremely well-made. I think one was $700 and the other was $550. I wanted the look and quality, didn’t want to pay bottega Venetta prices. I am very happy with my dupe and I’m not trying to fool anyone. I just really liked the style. However, I do get compliments on them all the time. People will say, I love your Bottega Venetta.
Totally bring it to a leather place and have them change the hardware and take the logo stamp off. Wear it with your falaias and be happy! NYC is rough on handbags because we drag them all over the place, it'll be good to have an affordable bag you love but aren't afraid of beating up a little!

This would be my advice. I do that with the very few designer pieces I have that were really popular items (I tend to never buy trends) with the fashion set. I wear the outdated stuff around people who have no clue about designer anything.

Thank you so much for sharing this story. I too love the Margaux and totally wanted a dupe for the same reasons. Another influencer was touting an Etsy shop that had a great dupe, and while talking about it mentioned that it even had The Row stamped into the hardware! I was like, “that’s not a dupe it’s a knock off, no thank you”. I also checked the Amazon site and it’s gone 😁

Hi! You can buy some leather paint in black and paint over the logo. As for the logo on the hardware you can get some sandpaper and sand down the logo on the hardware. Hope this helps❤

I feel you. It is evident to me that it is not an authentic Row bag. At first I said I would just black out the words The Row, but like you said they have it all over the metal. I don’t mind dupes, but this is a replica. Just buy another dupe that you saw and liked and cut your losses.

Take it to a leather shop, have them take off the name, change the buckles, and live your life queen.
Hi Carolyn! I understand you have a principled view of the situation. If a friend was in this situation, what would you tell them to do? It seems like a good bag, I would use it for occasions where you won't feel self-conscious about it. 80-90% of people probably don't know what the original is.

Oh wow! I don’t know what to tell you. For me it would completely change things because the stamps are there so I understand your concern. No judgement either way that’s a dilemma for sure. Maybe try carrying it a few times to see if you get over the feeling. Also, maybe you can customize it (embellishment or paint) so it clearly is not something The Row makes?

From an artistic standpoint, I can totally get what you're saying. I write and I'm not published yet but I'd hate for my work to be published as someone else's. On the other hand I really hate that wearing a look alike or a replica can cause some anxiety if someone points out it's a fake (like when I used to wear Payless shoes and would get made fun cause I couldn't afford Nikes at the time). I think you can wear the bag around the house and see how it wears (I know this sounds kinda silly but you can try it) like on a day where you have a work from home day just put stuff in it like you normally would and carry it around the house and see how it feels OR you can use it as your new gym bag and that's it. The bright side is now you know you like the bag, the silhouette, etc. and if you want to purchase the actual bag then you can. I bought a YSL bag...I thought I was getting a deal. I had the nerve to pay $250 for it 😢 smh that thing is just sitting in my closet.
I would say paint it in some cool artistic design and wear it that way, make it your own. The metal parts are way too small to really notice so don't worry about that.

Use it as a reusable grocery tote, diy it and paint some of your art on it, or donate it (maybe to the Dress for Success organization)
I hear you. Back in 2007 or so, I saw a Goyard bag in an photo. I was seized with a desire for this bag which had never come over me before. I think search engines were new to me and I was looking for how much I needed to save and amongst the $$$$ there was the bag ina bunch of colors for $50. I bought that bag so fast. But back then no one was talking about Goyard and I just wore that bag to. the. ground. The vinyl edging frayed so I took it to a bag place and they wanted $180 to restore it saying it was a good investment because this was the real thing. Ha! Went to my neighborhood cobbler place and they replaced the vinyl with leather for $50. Now everyone always stops me to complement/ask about this bag! Gives me so much stress!
I say rub the lettering off and call it a day. No one is going to see all the details. The most responsible thing to do is use it and don’t recirculate because others will not be as scrupulous

Hey Carolyn! it's was obviously not your INTENTION to buy a fake and your integrity about the entire thing is on full display. Since you cannot return it do what you can to make it COMFORTABLE for you and remember what the goal was, to see if the bag is worth your coin or is just too much hype for your life. If you end up loving the shape, size uses and quality of this one then I wish you all the best of snagging the ORIGINAL if and when you so choose. The bag won't define who you are, this video shows you are a class act!
It’s a beautiful leather bag….if you could get the wonky lettering on the side removed then I would do that and then wear the bag! If it bothers you that much then you could also ask if they could replace all the hardware too (except maybe the feet) and that way it would be more like the dupe you wanted to try instead of a replica. I think We both have got scammed by the same seller at Etsy. Never used mine. I did raised a complaint with PayPal, got my money back, and kept the bag...
Keep the bag. If you like it buy the real one down the line. If you don’t you’ll naturally stop carrying it. I did the same with a Fauxyard bag I got last year. Decided not to make the bigger investment.
