    I think that the quality of the luxury brands is realllll shady right now. I'm like wait.... are yall buying ya own knock offs and selling them to us... cause these straps are breaking like they from the dollar store!!!! Chileeeeeee for me it's bringing stores like Banana and Anthropologie into my view again. I'm going for expensive accessories and shoes and mid clothing and basics cause i will tussle a brand if my ready to wear starts wearing like Rainbow Shop.... IJS!!!

      A few hours ago we received an all clear in Barbados after the passage of Hurricane Beryl which extensively damaged the south and some central parts of the island's coastal infrastructure so....my thoughts on fashion are that it would be disingenuous to hold these brands to a high standard when theyve always been stealing from, exploiting and degrading peoples and cultures the world over to sell their products in north america and europe. So sustainability and ethics are only buzzwords at this point since those with purchasing power and bigotry dont care about people only profits. Influencers would do well to imbue their business model of content creation with authencity, integrity and courage because as consumers lean into their consciousness, identity, and humanity, nothing will stand, grow or last that is not real, honest and true.

      So true! I had to fight LV employees for my strap on the leather Pochette Métis that was unraveling in less than one year. I had to keep repeating it over and over I purchased it brand new less than one year ago. They finally agreed to just give me a new one. The hell I had to go through just turned me off all together. I have considered pre-loved; I would be the fool to keep buying high end luxury it's all a scam!

    The luxury brands are going to have to figure out what they are now selling to their consumers because their collective underwear are showing and we now know it's not quality. They used to be able to convince everyone that their prices were justified due to specialized or handmade craftmanship. Will they be able to thrive into the future on name alone or will they really have to get back to quality over profit? Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to sustain both quantity and quality. I love the fact that the broader awareness of the pre-loved market has expanded accessibility and I've gotten great quality pieces that were like new. However, I may have to start a special savings account to purchase a handbag from the Pharrell LV collection because, as you mentioned, some of those men's bags are divine!! 🙂🥰

    Pre-loved all the way!! There are soooo many beautiful items out there that are in great condition. I’d much rather spend $500 on a vintage Gucci item than get 10 things from Zara that I wont love in a year. Loving your content. Please keep it up! ❤

    • @RationallyMe
      @RationallyMe 25 дней назад +9

      Exactly and I worked retail, so I already know if they can sell an item at 80% off and still make a profit, that means their cost to produce is miniscule. When people comment about pre-loved, I let them know that ALL clothing is used because after 50 people have tried it on and left all of their DNA in it-- everything from makeup, to sweat, to saliva/mucus (from sneezing), dandruff, deodorant, not to mention people trying on pants with no underwear then leaving it in a pile on the filthy dressing room floor that is germ-infested with whatever they tracked in-- trust me, it's ALL used. After working retail, I will never wear any "new" clothes without washing them first.

    I am not so luxury person but love fashion and styling. I get majority of my clothing through thrifting because it also a therapeutic activity for me and I love the hunt. Also shopping clearance racks and sales and coupons. I notice that the appearance of luxury products was looking a bit cheap to me and when they trying to sell a pleather garment for hundreds of dollars and these types of material are not long lasting (not a good investment because of possible peeling).
    A few people I know actually lost their jobs that that they had for over 20+ years and it was a struggle because being older it harder to find a new job during this time or afterwards. So a lot of us have retired because the workplace became abusive and disrespectful to our wellbeing and SS is not a paycheck meant for anyone to actually live on but peace of mind might be worth the struggle.
    So many brick and mortar stores are shutting down and it sad because that a lose of jobs. I just saw a RUclipsr I follow just walked into Express and bought 10 items for $17 because it is shutting down and she found some good stuff.
    Great conversation.

    I was talking to my brother maybe mid-May and mentioned the sales were aggressive and he was talking about keeping his blinders on. Me too, but somehow something always grabs my attention. I just bought some Jil Sander boots lmao. I've been going hard on MATCHES too. Got a shearling coat for under $1,000, but then I made up for that buying a different shearling on MyTheresa lmao. Then Margiela came out with feathery block heel mules and I had to get a pair in black and the light blue to match my shearling. Feather mules have been on my wishlist, so what was I supposed to do?! Lmao. I told myself I'd shop less this year but the sales really haven't stopped since the holidays. I'm pretty frugal in other ways so I can usually excuse a purchase here and there, but the way these clearances have been calling me...

    For me, I’ve been more intentional about what I buy. As I’m in my mid twenties it’s important to me to make sure I can see myself wearing something for the next 5 years at least. This is to prevent diving into trends or getting caught up in something that looks cute on someone else but not on me. I also try to make sure I can see myself wearing it to the places I frequent and that I goes with things in my closet. Now I’ve been shopping a lot too 😅 but I’ve definitely been hunting down those sales

    Spending patterns are cyclical. When the economy is doing well, people spend more. When it's not, people prioritize their spending. However, it doesn't help the luxury market when they keep raising prices simply as a money grab.

    My interest has always been in thrift. Some of the newer brands are producing top quality well constructed bags and clothing. I prefer patronizing these newer brands, while freeing myself from status purchases choke holds. This cookie is not paying and has no interest in patronizing raised prices for poor quality.

    Hey dear Carolyn, loving the topic...but truth be told;what one man won't,another man will!! These designers know for damn sure, what they're doing;they pay thousands ,if not millions to strategic planners;to find a way/any freaking way, under any situation to buy whatever it is they're selling...and you know what;people are STILL BUYING!!We as consumers have to blame ourselves for being suckers to a lot of these 'trends'!! For example Jacquemus...I mean;cute as a button,but....those ridiculous tiny ass bags that a lot of people were wearing!! I can't afford luxury ,and I'm not against a sister who can,I'm just really sad, that no one seem to stay in Canada....it's really sad;they just never stay!Anyways Carolyn,so wonderful to see you again, take care!!Happy 4TH,when it comes!!💗💗

    The luxury climate has been off for some time now. For bags, I buy exclusively vintage because the quality is still high. Many eBay sellers have great products, excellent service and the reviews to match. Also, getting off label teats is important. Vintage Coach leather is better than any Chanel produced today IMHO.

Co2 comes from us just exhaling! I personally believe this is God’s judgment. I do believe that the fashion industry does need to minimize they’re textile and clothing production. And everyone needs to embrace individuality!!!! I Thank God for giving me the gift to make my own clothes ❤😂

    these brands clamoring for sales now by reducing their already ridiculously bloated prices, is comical to see. they should have been ashamed to price these goods so exorbitantly in the first place but now that those who didn't already know, can see the ACTUAL costs to create these items...the consumer is becoming wise and they're not able to play in these folks' faces. they're going to have to tighten up if they want to remain in business because with politics & consumers waking up and being sick and tired...they'll be hard pressed to continue their shady ways and still be successful. we are TIRED.
