    The Monkees are my #1 favorite group followed by the Beatles in the #2 spot. I bought the 2 season DVD sets, so I can get a dose of the Monkees any time I want.!!!!

      Lucky! It's a nightmare to get hold of them now. I think doctors should prescribe the Monkees when they run out of anti-depressants!

    As a fan of The Monkees for 8 years, I think you made a great job to introduce them with this video! I hope you can make new people get into this wonderful show/band that for me is one of the greatest symbols of the 60s zeitgeist and that means so much to me since I first watched it 8 years ago ❤️

    i saw micky in concert a few nights ago because my dad has been a life long fan, his first record he ever got was there headquarters album when he was like 6. he’s been a fan of them and followed them through their whole career he was born in 61 so since he was a little boy they have been his favorite. they still are his favorite singers to this day but that concert is the first time ive really been introduced to them, so now i’m pretty interesting and have been looking into them now and starting to listen to their music. so thank you very much for this video!

    I was a fan of The Beatles first (90s Anthology series), then The Monkees ('97 TV Special), which introduced me to so many bands and many fandoms. Oddly enough #Monkeeschat IRC back in the 90s introduced me to Peter Noone (Hermans Hermits), back when Peter used to hang out in his chatroom after shows. lol Those were the days! We'd catch Nez as his astronaut avatar sneaking around VR3D to test newly-built model structures, years before he closed VR3D for private concerts. This was when fansites sprung up everywhere, few still exist. I came up empty-handed when searching for a place where fans congregate to feel some sense of communal sorrow the day Nez died, it hit me really hard.

    I loved The Monkeys” show as a kid. It was my favorite. Years later , in college, I dated a very hip girl (think Edie Sedgwick) who was obsessed with “The Monkeys” and she had these phenomenal records that I’d never heard, it was backdrop to our time together. I’ve seen snippets of the Jack Nicholson penned “Head” and watching this lovingly produced history has inspired me to watch it in earnest tonight

    I was born in '73 and had a vague remembrance of loving The Monkees show as a toddler. I particularly remember the opening sequence. Fast forward to 7th grade and a new friend I met in jr high reintroduced me to them. I watched every rerun and found two of their albums at garage sales and played them over and over. I know the members of The Monkees were not always fond of their association with the show, but I hope they know/knew the influence they had on kids for years to come. Although the show and music were tightly controlled at first, it gave just enough idea of the counter culture to the kids who watched it so that we could understand that living in "Pleasant Valley Sunday" wasn't necessarily pleasant. It was where my first ideas of dissatisfaction with society were expressed. And then growing up to find Head and truly understand their fight against being boxed in added another level of understanding. They were amazing men who deserved more credit in their time. I'm glad I found and appreciated them for who they were.

    It is really too bad that the studio or whatever was having a strike at the time. I could imagine 33 1/3 would have looked and sounded so much better if they had been using the original studio's resources. With that said, there were a ton of bad decisions. The stages looked like big empty stages and the green screen effects were horrible. Then you throw in an interpretative dance segment that feels like it goes on for 5 hours....LOL... Anyways great job on the video, though some of the flipped images made me doubt my reality at first.

    I saw the Monkees at the Pacific Amphitheater for their 30th Anniversary tour (1996) and was fortunate to get a backstage pass to meet three members. One of the most fun shows I had ever seen. I didn't develop a deeper appreciation for their music until much later as I got older. Especially Nesmith's contributions. Sadly, I saw his last show at The Greek (2021). A memorable show. The Monkees were a "fabricated" band, but a band none the less and worthy of their place in Rock n' Roll history. So much great music!!💗🎶🎵🎸🥁🎹🐒

    Thanks for the good, full-rounded overview, ESPECIALLY for not once again claiming these guys never played their instruments (etc etc) as so many others STILL continue to do despite all the evidence to the contrary.
    My sister was a fan of the show when it originally aired. She purchased sheet music to their songs which gave me all the opening I needed to pick up and try learn guitar: I chose one song in particular because of all the chord changes, figuring, "gee, if I learn this one song I'll have learned chords to a lot of other songs"---and the song was PAPA GENE'S BLUES---where I also quickly learned was actually written by one of the guys (who supposedly didn't know anything about music). So, I kinda wound up becoming a fan too, in particular, of the songs that THEY wrote and performed, including some very unusual, more experimental stuff. And then, a couple of decades later, even wound up doing a little bit of work for the guy (you can guess who) who wrote that song by which I learned to play guitar. (I also may've had a tiny hand in the evolution of/ ultimate development of what became, ultimately, MTV, but, as you say, that's a story for another day!)

      @@EnchantedEssays On TV PARTS. Friends of mine became very involved with Michael's projects, much of which seems to have been instigated by my renting of a 16mm print of HEAD in/around 1972 (?not sure) and screening it for them at their house....but this is very simplified version of the "connectings" (inventing a word here) that can start to expand and expand in the film business from a simple "just right" moment. I'll have to add that, being somewhat older at the time of the tv show's initial run, it took a bit of nerve to step out and give some support to these guys who I felt were getting a bad run: they were getting nothing but grief from the "hip-wazzi" who guided popular public opinion then. Have you ever heard of Our Gang (AKA The Little Rascals or Hal Roach's Rascals)?
    Is the series that started all these TV comedies. Look it up. It's really funny.

    Why is all your footage of ANYONE with a guitar “flopped” - as though everyone is LEFT-HANDED?

    • @EnchantedEssays
      @EnchantedEssays  2 года назад

      Oh yeah I inverted all the footage! The way I use it does fall under fair use, but RUclips's copyright claim system is automated, so it's less hassle to try and avoid it completely

      @@EnchantedEssays There MUST be some other way to get around You Tube’s STUPID automated “Prevention Of Fair Use” system. I mean, the Right-Handed guitars that are suddenly built BACKWARDS are the first thing I noticed (I’ve only been playing since 1964, and I’m RIGHT-HANDED), but the faces of Nesmith, Tork, Jones and Dolenz just don’t look quite right in the instances where they’ve also been “flopped”. I also have another question. There are several shots from the show open (that’s when the theme song plays) which face THE CORRECT WAY! How did you manage THAT, while having to “flop” the images with guitars in them? When I bought MY two ridiculously expensive Gretsch guitars (a Country Gentleman and a Streamliner), each of which has a very different sound, but the build quality of each is strictly top-notch. I became acquainted with Fred Gretsch III, who is himself a genuine country gentleman, and a truly fine fellow. Fred is justifiably proud of his guitars (and I am proud to own them). They have a LONG history of being among the highest quality stringed instruments on this planet or any other
