I know he was already gone from the group when they did this Laugh-In appearance but RIP Peter Tork, too.
Some people today say it was not funny. I beg to differ. I was one when it came on and 6 when it went off the air. I have watched a lot of it over the years and it is hilarious.
Teresa Graves : GET CHRISTIE LOVE!
Mike was my favorite, though I liked them all. RIP Mike! God bless Mickey... Please keep him around forever.
@@LarryGonzalez00PETER TORK, what a dork!
I was ecstatic to find this!
Huge Monkees & Goldie Hawn fan.
Peter would've looked really cute next to Goldie 😊
Love it! The Monkees were marvelous, count me in as a Jo Anne Worley fan, and one of the best joke walls at the end!
I loved this show as a kid in 1968.
The Monkees’ last nationally televised appearance as a group during their original hey-heyday.
Yes, but Peter?
@@lauriebroadway5607 I know. I'm pretty torqued about it too!
Peter was the first to leave the band, I can’t remember what year. I believe they released one album as a trio and then Mike departed.
@@paulreese3071 Peter dropped out in December 1968. The remaining Monkees distributed 2 LPs as a threesome: _Instant Replay_ and _The Monkees Present Micky, David, Michael,_ both in 1969.
@@AarHan3 Thx so much, I had forgotten about Present!
Goldy Hawn was absolutely adorable
The Monkees were great actors and great comedic actors.
As a trio, the Monkees performed on Laugh-In, the Glen Campbell variety show, the Tonight Show, Johnny Cash show, Hollywood Squares and Saturday morning commercials. The tv show ended its prime time run but was very popular on Saturday morning tv for several years. As a trio, they released 2 albums which were very listenable but not as commercial. They also toured as a trio during this time. They were still very busy in 1969.
What happened to Peter Tork?
@@roryschweinfurter4111 Peter left the group after their TV special, 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee. In the commentary for the video release, Micky stated that Mike gave Peter a gold watch, engraved with "Good luck, from the guys down at the office" , I may be misquoting that, but it was something along those lines. I guess Peter wanted out, but he didn't think the gold watch was very funny. When i was a kid, a person could get monkee records on the back of cereal boxes. You could cut them out and play them on a record player. I always wondered why Peter wasn't featured in the picture on the record. I guess because he had quit the group, they didn't think he should be recognized.

Thanks for the info
My old girlfriend used to say that he was her high school teacher
Peter did teach for awhile, so it is entirely possible.
Where today, can you get that much talent and legends on one stage???
The party scene in laugh in always the grooviest 😂laugh on.
I love The Monkees and Davy was my favorite and I will love him forever miss him deeply !
My (late) father was Laugh-In's biggest fan. On warm Monday nights, outside playing with my fellow 8 year olds, I can still see him in the house, watching the TV and roaring with laughter. Thanks for the memories.
This show can still make me laugh. The shows of yesterday can still withstand the rest of time. Not very much on TV is truly entertaining nowadays.
The court by the airport scene had me cackling! 🤣 RIP Mike and Davy.
Thanks for this wonderful upload. I wasn't born yet in the 1960s but I watched the Monkees' episodes during their 20th anniversary reunion and became a fan. I thought I saw a bit of influence from their episodes and perhaps from "Head," especially during the dance scene. This was a true gem to watch!
Oh sweet Davy 😍 love his yellow t shirt. It looks so soft..beautiful 😍😍😍
Our family watched both shows every week. 😊😊
There are two variety shows that helped shape me into the adult I've become: LAUGH-IN and THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR!😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Now that I think about it, I am in the same boat. Still floating and not sunk yet. 🙂
P.S. My lunch box in third grade was Laugh-In. ✌️❤️😀
Well that explains a lot, doesn’t it? ;)
I would have loved an opportunity to simply sit and chat with Goldie Hawn. George Burns often credited Gracie Allen for all of their success because "she was smart enough to play dumb." Grace was, indeed, a brilliant comedienne. I honestly conclude that Hawn was exceptionally intelligent (which I hope served her well in other aspects of business & living) as well. She was a performance gem! That was just part of the on-topic, as a blend was stipulated. I know (from living back then) that some eschewed the Monkees as being "phony." While the guys were initially assembled to be comedic actors, they had talent and knew they could do it. They had to threaten (humorously) but forged & wore their crowns. Bravo!
Had other skills if can access old police bookings but more than likely sealed
Personally, I think The Monkees were a criminally underrated band.
If you read her autobiography you'll be more than impressed
You hate English?
When I worked for the gas company in Hollywood I had an order at Ruth Buzzis she was the nicest person
Can never get enough of Pamela Rodgers! ❤😍
Yes, she was hot.
This is my early childhood. I've had a crush on Goldie since I was about 5 years old. Oh, and I'm a Monkees fan too.
Davy’s hair is everything! It’s so floofy!! 😍😍😍
Absolutely loved this! Sadly, Laugh-in didn't screen here (New Zealand), so it's great to see this stuff! Never knew that Jeremy Lloyd was on the show! That was a wall full of talent- floor, too!
What a light hearted, un PC, no filters, and goofy show. We could use that in 2023!
white straight guys miss the un PC days...
Season Three Episode Four... Just watched the full episode on Tubi TV.
It is still as funny, now, as it ever was... I guess that's why it's still going strong... and streaming free.
Too bad there aren't more shows like this. It's a one of a kind gem.
It really does stand the test of time
The George Wallace joke though! Nice social commentary zinger. Mike Nesmith was always my favorite!
Thanks for a fun trip down memory lane! The Monkees were a bonus!
Great 😃👍 Memories from Laugh-In and the Monkees a Beautiful 💕❤️❤️ Simpler Time.
Laugh In was the most hilarious sketch show in history I’ve never seen this episode of the Monkees which I loved too 😂❤😱👏👏👏
I loved Laugh-In AND The Monkees when I was a kid!
All right. So where’s Peter?
I loved Laugh-In so much when I was a kid. I loved The Monkees too!
Peter left the group after their TV special, 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee.
Love this show still!
Always loved Goldie !!
I can't believe the Monkees did this. Laugh-In was an idea for a show the Monkees pitched to NBC. NBC turned them down then produced the show without them, now they guest star? They must be good sports!
I love watching the TV show tof The Monkees.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Goldie Hawn role was definitely the inspiration for Suzanne Sommers 'Chrissy' role on Three's Company.
Three’s company was based off of the British show Man of the house.
@@Dave-sw2dmWhy do people insist on saying "based off", when the correct phrase is based ON?!
@@liamcomery6574 , from grammarly “Based on is the preferred phrase in academic writing and British English, while based off of is seen more in spoken American English. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, based on is the more popular choice between the two, especially in writing, though based off of has grown in popularity.” Language evolves.
Omg so fun ❤❤❤❤
Wish Peter was in this
This would’ve made a great Monkees episode!
Yeah, I loved watching this show as a little kid. I remember times when I would ask my mom if I could stay home from boy scouts to watch it because my boy scout meetings and Laugh In were on the same night. That's a shame that Peter Tork had left the group by this time. It would have been really cool to had seen all 4 of them in this episode.
Great memories! Peter Tork was very funny. He would have been good in the mix.
I love this show
The monkees we're great actors. And, good musicians too.
GROOVY BABY, NICE JOB BY ALL!!! M.O'B
This was long after Peter left the group.
I was just wondering why Peter wasn't there with them. Thanks for that piece of info.
Actually, not that long. Peter departed in December 1969. This episode was filmed only 10 months later.
I think Peter was in jail around this time too. Pot.
@@i-a-g-r-e-e-----f-----jo--b no Peter was in federal jail for 3 months in 1972
This seems as if this were, at least in part, the Oct 6 1969 broadcast as I remember. Of course that was some time ago.
Bob, I remember in reruns there was another part where it's the old West and Mike comes in with an arrow in his chest and says, "Get This Out! I Can't stand it!" and Micky is there with the telegraph machine, and types out "I..Can't...Stand..It!" and Mike hits him in the head.
Davy is GORGEOUS!!
I was a child when this was on.
First time I see Michael Nesmith with hair on his face during the late 60s. I thought he grew a beard in the mid 70s for the first time. 😄
Mike, Micky and Peter grew beards during the "Headquarters" sessions in early '67. They are noticeable in the last episode of the first season, Monkees On Tour. They do a brief intro explaining the episode. Mike, Micky and Peter wear long grey false beards, clean shaven Davy does not. I guess the producers didn't think the young audience was ready to see the boys that "far out" yet.
Nesmith's Nudie suit FTW

They are a hoot as usual!; Lol 🤣
It’s been said that season 3 of the Monkees was proposed with a new format; what that was has not been revealed, but I suspect it was what eventually became ‘’Laugh-In’’. Of course, ‘’the Monkees’’ was cancelled and ‘’Laugh-In’’ was tailored to an adult audience. Funny seeing them on this show - it should have been theirs, at least as hosts. In this case they were still under contract and just stuck on to keep them busy. Sad, really - it was so obvious that it was over.
There were a lot of rumors about why "The Monkees" was canceled. However, the main rumor or myth was The Monkees wanted a new format and proposed the new format be a variety show, but the network wanted the show to remain the same. I think by the end of season 2 in 1968, they were done musically. If the show had a 3rd season, it probably wouldn't have been successful and probably would have been canceled by the middle of season 3.
The group had 4 # 1 albums and their 5th album "The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees" peaked at # 3. This was the album with their last # 1 single "Daydream Believer". I don't know if the writers who were writing their songs moved on because the show had been canceled, or if the music in the 60s changed again by 1968 when groups like Yes and Led Zepplin were emerging and The Monkees couldn't change with the times. Their Movie "Head" was a huge flop whereas "The Porpoise Song" (the title song) was the only decent song in the movie. I think that movie was their attempt to be like the Beatles' album "Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band", and it didn't work.
It's a shame the band fizzled after 1968. Their 2 follow-up albums without Peter Tork were commercial flops. I think the band should have replaced Tork with another band member, but they didn't. Eventually, Michael Nesmith left the group the next year around 1970 and Davy and Mickey tried to keep the band going to no avail. The Monkees had a short resurgence in 1986 and 1987 when Davy, Peter, and Mickey toured to commemorate their 20th anniversary with the mildly successful song "That Was Then, This is Now", a cover song recorded by the band. Michael Nesmith had previous commitments with his video business, so he appeared when he could. Then the band toured and appeared on various TV shows all the way up to Davy Jones's death in 2012. Even with Davy, Peter, and Michael dead, Mickey Dolenz toured by himself this year. There are videos on RUclips showing at least one tour date from this past April 2023. That's a lot of info, but I guess only Mickey Dolenz can confirm what really happened concerning the cancellation of "The Monkees" TV series.
@@edg4441Micky just released a new EP of R.E.M. hits 10/23 and a photo memoir a documentary of the times of pics that he himself had taken 11/23.

The Monkees should’ve had another show called “The Monkees Adult Party Show” where they smoke and gamble and stuff like that. I think Davy would have looked gorgeous on that show!
The flying fickle finger of fate.
Mike Nesmith might as well have been wearing a sign that said "I don't want to be here".

What year was this? Seems like this is near the end of the run for the Laugh in show. The Monkees show had already ended at the time of this appearance.
Oct 6, 1969. "The Monkees" TV series had ended the year before.
Okay, I lost it when Davy says "Are you sure Desi Arnaz started like this?" The Monkees fit right into the show like a glove...they were participating as if they had been with the show all along. With 2 years of total comedic abandonment on their own show, no wonder.
Not close to being the same without Peter T.
didn he quit then?
I never realized how much shorter Davy Jones was to the others. Maybe they hid it on their own show.
Davy was just 5 ft. 3 in. tall.
NO! They never hid it, it was a bit on the show a lot. He, being the only Brit, was shocked when cast with 3 tall American dudes. Became great friends all!
Reminds me of internet pop up ads

So wonderfully silly
The redhead reminds me of Carol Wayne.
In George Schlatter's biography he lists all the celebrities he's ever worked with. He doesn't list Bill Cosby, which you'll understand if you read the book. He also fails to list The Monkees, either individually or as a group. Why?
What don't believe Davey J was the first to die and the youngest then Peter and now Mike the only one still alive is Micky. There show was very corny but I like some of their music.
