Trick 'r Treat is Terrific - Hack The Movies

- Tony, Crystal, and Johanna celebrate the Halloween season by watching a modern Halloween classic. In this movie review/podcast they will break down Trick 'r Treat and go into all the things that make it terrific! Like how it interweaves all its stories and characters, the way it pays respect to Halloween traditions, and how it gave a new mascot in the form of Sam.
Interwoven stories demonstrate that some traditions are best not forgotten as the residents (Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker) of a small town face real ghosts and goblins on Halloween. Tales of terror reveal the consequences of extinguishing a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight and a grumpy hermit's encounter with a sinister trick-or-treater.

Happy Halloween everybody 🎃
I paused the episode just to say this: The timing on the fake freeze was PERFECT. I literally grabbed my tv control the exact second the video resumes. Props to the editor because he/she nailed it 👏
"Fake out" is the term I think Johanna is looking for.
No, definitely a deepfake. She was way ahead of the curve with Atrioc.
Tony: ”Maybe Bryan Singer has a hand in it.”
Me: ”Bryan Singer has ALLEGEDLY had a hand in a lot of things.”
I sadly understood that reference...
Ha! Dark!
Tony's desperation when he uttered: "Talkin bout tats" made me laugh out loud... That is all.
Crystal's moment after the fake freeze? Best part of the video
Crystal's love of Halloween 3 made me a bigger fan of hers than I already was. Thank you Crystal for appreciating a super underrated classic.
as opposed to the last thumbnail, Crystal is looking pretty excited about this movie.
If Newt is wearing a Sam costume, this episode is gonna rock.
Wait isn’t that who Crystal is holding…
@@alexjones2651 i thought Newt was standing on the table
Newt was behind the cameras the whole time and screwed up Tony's cam
Just wanted to point out that the cartoon "werewolf" that appeared on the TV in the last story was actually a werecat/cat creature from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.
Man when Tony said Bryan Singer "also had a hand in..." I thought he was about to say sumthin' else.
I held my breath.
😂😂😂😂
Hahaha!
The scene where Rhonda leaves her "friends" to get attacked by the zombie children was my favorite part.
She and Sam exchange respectful glances towards each other at the end.
It's kinda like evil respecting evil.
Hack the movies: the show you watch more for the lore of the hosts than the actual reviews.
Thank you Jessica I was screaming fakeout at the top of my lungs 😆 🤣
For talking about tapes you should review the real 'Trick or Treat' movie from 1986
FOR SURE!!! Crush 6 6.
"The real Trick or Treat"... So because the movie has the same title it means it's somehow fraudulent lol? This movie is way better than the one from 1986 lol
@@Dielawn69 It's not even the same title "Trick or Treat" and "Trick R Treat.
yet another example that proves my theory that Tony, Johanna and Crystal are the best trio for reviews. They all work well together without any weird pauses etc... or any moments when they look like they don't want to be there.
I remember watching this trailer the 300 DVD. I love werewolf, the principal, and the bus graveyard segments. Still have the DVD, which sold out on every shelf in town except Wal-Mart at the time.
we mention the 300 dvd!
@@HackTheMovies Awesome. Can't wait to see the latest review.
3:22 Tony digs grave, then masterfully escapes. Best part of the show.
26:56 Crystal got DONK
Crystal shaking her bottom when she showed the wording Always check your candy part of the video 😊
that's a good looking bottom, ngl. She seems so genuinely happy and in a good mood this episode. Maybe she forgave her father? ;)
I thought I had watched this before, but I was confusing it with "Tales of Halloween" anthology. It's more campy horror than Trick r Treat, which isn't a bad thing.
I always confuse that one with _All Hallows' Eve._
I recommend doing the movie "Satan's little helper" 2004, it's the most outrageously weird Halloween movie that definitely has multiple talking points that I'm sure would make an interesting video. 🤔
Yes! It’s another favorite of mine along with Trick ’r Treat. It’s a fun Halloween movie as well.
Please
Tony's Mic is in great focus.
I will never unsee this
Youre not wrong though, its like, the only thing out of focus xD
Man, I get so bothered that Crystal never finishes a sentence because she gets inter---"DID YOU GUYS KNOW ABOUT THE TIME I WAS IN TDKR!!?" Lmao love you guys.
Tony’s face at 58:30 made me spill my coffee…It was great! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great job with the editing on this video. "Sam" really came through in the end! What a camera pro!
He's the worst!
I’ve been binge watching Hack the Movies, I love this show! Hey arent you the guy from Dark Knight Rises?
Obviously because it's the perfect movie
yes, he's very famous.
Tony was Bane's assistant. His very far away undercover assistant.
Spooky time at the Hack the Movies. Johanna is haunted by zombie kids, Crystal & Trisha shed into their wolf skin for Newt, Kieran has turned a kid into a Jack-o-Lantern, and Tony is being stalked by Justin in a Sam outfit.
First time I saw this was at a Halloween party in 09 dressed as night wing. My group of friends hyped this movie up, I now typically watch it once a year. Great review, hope this makes you more famous
I like how Tony just completely lost control of this episode. See, this is what happens when Newt isn't there. Need him there to keep things moving along. 😁
I love "Trick'R'Treat", it's 1 of the good horror anthologies(even though it's a anthology in the same way "Pulp Fiction" is). Any film that uses practical effects for werewolves is cool in my book.
I saw this movie for the first time last year, from James' recommendation, and I freaking loved it. Not only was it shot, directed, written, and casted well, but the color palette of orange and black looks amazing. I'm an orange fanatic so it was pleasing to the eye. This movie desperately needed a sequel.
My GF bought me this dvd after we watched this review. Thanks Super Famous RUclips Star Tony From Hack The Movies!!!!
Marry her
My dad used to use the "Check The Candy" excuse. For some reason all the Snickers and Reese's looked "suspicious" to him. 😄
Trick R Treat is a great inspiration and national treasure. A GIANT MOVIE
Oh my god the segment about Tony being drunk at a friend's house is hilarious 😂
Great episode!! Got a really good laugh when the video froze. Haha!
Tony is spot on about Happiness, I think that movie is underrated!
Bryan Singer, who's production company made Trick R' Treat, pissed off studio heads by bailing on X-Men 3 for Superman Returns and they punished him by pulling Trick R' Treat from theaters. Only a fan outcry several years later caused the movie to be released direct t DVD.
I remember being completely enamored w/ the trailer, and then reading countless positive reviews from pre-screenings, only to wait *years* for the flick to officially release direct to dvd...
totally worth the wait, btw 8)
It was supposed to be in theaters around 2007, but studio executives sat on it. It did get screened at film festivals.
Happy to have seen the trailer on that "300" DVD, along with my older brother buying... i think either the DVD or Blu-Ray when it came out. And I proudly own both the Scream Factory Blu-Ray and a sweet hoodie jacket with Sam on it (Also love Johanna's shirt)
Great review as always. Editor Jessica is great, excellent addition and keep adding in your stuff!!!
That tattoo talk tangent was the funniest thing ever 🤣
I watched Trick 'r Treat last night.
Good movie.
Tony we love you directly from Tijuana !!! Viva Antonio el famoso de "Cortar Las Películas"
The costume you were wonderng about is not a knight, its like an old school 1930's blacknwhite scifi serial Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon type costume; that's why the chicks dressed like a robot.
The cartoon played on a short lived MTV show called Cartoon Sushi. That’s where I saw it a long ass time ago. It was a curated show featuring all types of animated shorts and felt like an attempt to have a new Liquid Television but seemed like it never took off. I can only remember two episodes airing back to back one Saturday afternoon in like 1997 and then never saw it again. But I somehow managed to record the episodes and rewatched them a few times over the years. I’m only now learning it is connected to the movie. Very cool.
Just scooped a $9 blu-ray at Best Buy. Really excited to listen to the commentary!
You guys should review The Fly. That's such a great gory movie with Jeff Goldblum.
Love the pixelation on Crystal's foot, well done editor!
13:00 I get sleepy after 1 glass of wine
I worked with Leslie Bibb on Talladega Nights! She's pretty nifty. :P
That was one beautiful episode of Hack The Movies. Love you guys
When Netflix was getting big at the time this was one of the first movies i seen in that app, and i loved it.
15:00 The use of a jump scare that never happens is usually referred to as a "false startle."
19:46 OMG it's me!
The actor for Sam in this film has stated he'd love to return as Sam in another Trick 'r Treat
Halloween 3, Trick r Treat, and Satans little helper! Constant halloween staples!
Trick R treat is one of my all time favorite movies and my most favorite Halloween movie ever . Everything about this movie just screams Halloween . Sam is awesome ^^ I actually have a Neca figure of him .
Great review of the movie .
great movie
Tony is literally me when ppl talk about tattoos
I love y'all. Newt too.
One note: the Creepshow Creep has introduced stories by voice or in panels. Your point is still valid though, doesn't do it nearly to the extent of the Crypt Keeper.
Also socks serve the purpose of pixelation, so I really appreciate Jessica's extra effort, lol.
For some reason this whole thing reminded me of “The serpent and the rainbow” and how tony loves eyeball stabbing. I have NO idea how any of this correlates
I believe the term she was looking for was "fake out"
Pump fake more than likely :) like in basketball!
One of your guys' best reviews!
🎃👏🍻
I like your set. Too many RUclipsrs make no effort, as if we're going to lap up their opinion no matter how unprepared they are. The video store background shows you are committed.
Trick 'r Treat is a must watch every October (multiple viewings of course), speaking of anthologies. I once bought a DVD on eBay and the seller sent me 2 (why IDK) copies of something called Red Midnight and wow just bad. I told Movie Dumpster about it and I'm offered to mail them a copy and I am more than happy to mail you the other copy
I remember really wanting to see this movie, and it never came out and chalked it up to being like watchmen and taking forever to come out.
Then my tattoo artist gave me a bunch of ripped DVDs to take with me on deployment and it was one of then... I was so happy lol
Love this movie
That roman numeral one was a good idea. Imma steal it if you dont mind crystal
Do it!
@@Crystalquin thanks for the approval!
"Little rain mans" LMFAO!!!!
I think if they do a sequel which they should just keep the character of Sam because his man goal is to make sure people follow the rules of Halloween but turn it into anthologies
Love ur channel, Tony. Ur vids are always so interesting & fun to watch. Sometimes I laugh so hard I get tears in my eyes & need to catch my breath. Could the O.G. Tony heart & highlight my comment? Would make my day.
YAASSS!!! Hopefully more "Talking About Periods"
NICE dream master VHS
That freeze made me so anxious 😆😆😆😆
For the record, that wasn't a cartoon werewolf when the guy is flipping through channels, it's a werecat from Scooby Doo on Zombie Island
I don’t know, when Sam gets unmasked he kinda reminds me of Skullhedface from GWAR.
OMG he kinda does
Yay!
Yes! One of my favorite horror movies. EDIT : wow you all looked great, but Crystal was extra cute this episode! Like actually cute and happy. Nice to see :)
Tales from the Hood/Dark Side are great movies.
Crystal is a really good human being
Thanks!
Crystal loves Halloween 3?? Did we just become best friends lol
BFF!!!!!
The jack o lantern protected her.
I fn love Crystal and Johanna
I love the ladies processing being called “girls” by tony it was hilarious
This was excellent! Tony really got steam rollered by the girls this time! And everyone loved the movie, which made a change. And now I'm gonna add this movie to my must watch list!
I still have mail Netflix. I’d actually quit Instant Netflix before mail DVDs because the selection is way bigger. Next up is “The Lift,” which James covered in Monster Madness and which I will not have to spend $4 for a single stream. At the rate I watch and return them, the $8 a month is my best rental plan.
The character of Sam/Samhain is just as iconic as Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees, Michael Myres, Pinhead, Pumpkinhead, Chucky, Penny Wise, Herbert West, Tall Man, Ghostface, Mainac Cop and Candy Man
in 2007 there still would have been a "saw" movie coming out every Halloween, which I went to theatre for.
Probably Saw 3 or 4 by that time.
Sweet finally I can rewatch the episodes!
the blurring of her foot was hilarious
Halloween 3 IS the best in the series! No contest
More Shaft than you can handle is pretty good, but it was intentional. The best movie poster tag line is the Yogi Bear movie tag line “Great Things Come in Bears.” I think it’s better because the advertisers didn’t realize it how it could be taken.
Great film! Gonna be on the look out for the dvd now 😅. That freeze gag was amazing, had me doubting if the video actually got claimed. Easily the best Trio when it comes to the reviews,u all have great chemistry. Really makes it feel like it’s a couple friends just chopping it up about the movie.
I'm going to go ahead and diagnose Tony with Name-Pronunciacion-Dyslexia
Such an iconic Halloween movie that I’d on my list to watch🎃
At least I can look forward to hack the movies whenever I come back to town! Looks like i get 3 or 4 this time...
There was one case of tampered Halloween candy and it was from that child's own step father.
