- Tony, Johanna, and for the first time editor Jessica get together to talk about the first Final Destination movie and how it started out as a spec script for an X-Files episode and went on to be a huge film franchise!
Alex Browning is among a group of high school students readying themselves for a trip to Europe. When he suddenly has a premonition their airplane will crash, he screams to warn the others but instead he is thrown off of the plane along others, but the plane actually crashes after they get off. Weeks later one of the survivors mysteriously dies, and Alex realizes that things just got more complex.

To be fair there is an entire generation of people and the cool parents who took us to see it who won't drive behind a truck loaded down with logs on it because of Final Destination 2
I was taking my mom somewhere a few days ago and she told me to not drive behind them bc she’s seen them come off and hit people. Really just wanted to tell her she saw that in a movie and it’d be really unlikely for that to happen considering how heavy those are

Final Destination 2 is the best, the first is very close though.

Not sure if Jessica wants to be in front of the camera more, but she’s significantly more charismatic, funny, and insightful than the majority of people I’ve seen on here.

It was nice of Death to give the kids a month to recuperate before killing them. After this movie, Death just goes after them immediately.
Tony looking at the camera and saying "Jessica..." Then turning to look at Jessica as she starts to laugh and just says "got it" as her note appears just makes me chuckle in the oh so best way.
I hope for more Jessica in the future!! The people have spoken! 😅
I remember the third movie dvd was the first Interactive movie I saw, if you chose a certain path one character who was meant to die just disappeared from the movie

I love this movie. The cast were great, the suspenseful score was awesome, and the Death Scenes were shocking and hilarious. Decapitation by train and knife in the kitchen where my favorite scenes. And Tony Todd's creepy Cameo was a nice touch.
Only a few seconds in and I already want more Jess on the panel. Instantly fell in love with her personality. I think I may even have a new internet crush 😻.

I live in B.C. Final Destination 3 was filmed using our theme park in Vancouver for their Rollercoaster scene. Havent gone on it again after seeing the film
You can survive the coaster, just watch out for nail guns, weight rooms and tanning beds.

fun fact: here in brazil this series is called "Premonition" due the fact the main guy can "see" what's about to happen, it shock me when i found out it was called final destination it doesn't make any sense.

It was called Final Destination because it was a play on the fact everyone was suppose to die on the plane flight. When you travel long distances with connecting flights your last stop is your "final destination". Since they were removed from the flight and lived, the play on words is that they will eventually still get to their final destination....death. Hope that helps it make sense and yeah this movie made me paranoid as fuck too and I still am especially with my kids. It made me see how easily we could be horrifically killed or fucked up by the most mundane things and freak accidents and its really true. For instance a woman in America was killed a couple weeks ago while at the beach because the wind picked up a beach umbrella throwing it in the air and at her. The metal tip of the umbrella impaled her, killing her. A beach umbrella killed a woman.....think about that.
The title "Final Destination" is kind of a reference to airplane travel, so for the 1st film it makes sense, now the other films it doesn't. The Premonition title does work a bit better for the franchise as a whole, "Final Destination" really only applies to the 1st film.

The Final Destination series is one of my favorite horror franchises.
A lot of the deaths are like a Rube Goldberg machine where one event causes a chain reaction that eventually kills each character.
There's a lot creativity in many of them.
My favorite death was Rory's in FD 2 with the wire fence acting like a wire cheese slicer.

Meh, I think the sequel was pretty bad. The characters were bland and it just didn't have the same charm as the original. The opening scene is pretty good, though. The only memorable part in the film IMO.
The third film was mainly a pretty fun movie, but the inclusion of a human baddie towards the end was lame and unnecessary.
I’m glad Jessica is finally on an episode I wondered when it would happen.
I hope she does more appearances, she`s cute and has a fun personality.

This flick was such a pleasant surprise….. by 2000 slashers were getting stale with the “surprise killer reveal with monologue”…. Such a fresh concept with actual “holy shit” moments.
The first two Final Destination movies are fine and fun but, for my money, the Final Destination 3 DVD with the branching "Choose their Fate" feature is the peak Final Destination experience.
All the deaths have alternate versions so you can try to save everybody's lives and if you're the kind of dweeb who thinks milk is "a bit too spicy" you can even choose to make the kids not ride the rollercoaster and go straight home. 😅
I have fantastic memories of this DVD special feature

We saw it in the theater. We were HUGE X-Files fans and as soon as we meet the agents in the movie, I said to my wife, 'They should have had Anderson and Duchovny as the agents but had Duchovny as the hardass that doesn't believe anything the kids says but Anderson defending the kid and quoting how often these premonitions save lives, etc...'

Actually, it does make sense that Death is "behind" because in the second film it shows that all the individual deaths caused other people to cheat death in some way, so these events do have an impact, as they would.
People always tell stories of small things such as a missed bus or broken alarm saving them from 9/11 or other disasters similar to this movie but You can also look at the opposite effect, all the times countless people have died because of minor things. World War 1 started because of a sandwich (seriously look it up), the Titanic could've been saved but one guy lost his keys to a safe that had binoculars in it so he missed the iceberg. It sounds crazy but these both happened like dominoes
Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy was supposed to be on American Airlines-11 on 9/11. He missed his flight because he was too hungover, the gate had been closed fifteen minutes before his arrival. He apparently keeps the airline ticket on display.
When the girl got annihilated by that bus made everyone in the theater jump. It was so out of nowhere. And the bus was going like 100mph in the middle of a town square what looked like. Lol
When I was in middle school, I watched this on a plane to Hawaii. This movie scared the crap out of me in fourth grade and I was facing a fear. This is now my favorite franchise.

I met Devon at a con and asked him if he would sign a brick for me. He laughed and said "Get out of here". Then he went on to explain to the crowd about the brick being the way they killed him off in 2.
I watched the 1&2 a few weeks back after probably a decade or more, and i'd forgot just how creepy and sinister (and good) they were compared to the later ones where you just wanted to FF to a death.
I haven't watched any of these in ages.
Never had any clue about the X-Files connection.

This and the third one (my favorites of the franchise) did the best they could to make me paranoid of planes and roller coasters, BUT I DIDN'T LET THEM WIN! Back in June '06, the ENTIRE week leading up to my first Caribbean cruise, EVERY talk show was discussing CRUISE SHIP NIGHTMARES...
I like how they didn't mention Devon Sawa being in the Chucky show as I guess just different characters going forward. That shows pretty good.

I could have sworn there were 6 of these movies, but Google is telling me that a sixth was supposed to go into production in early 2020 and has been juggled around a few times. It's currently in production finally (I think?) and slated to go direct to HBO Max
For 20 years, I've wanted to know who the Mack Daddy was! For anyone who doesn't get it, Tony Todd says that if you disrespect the plan, it would incite a fury that would even terrorize the Grim Reaper, and you don't want to fuck with that Mack Daddy! Who is IT?!?!?! Every movie I've wanted them to explain it, and they never did..
Jess is an absolute pawg and I love it.
When I got my drivers license the tester said "This is when I hate my job. Do I give your a license or fail you?" after a few minutes of negotiation she caved in and passed me. I was very annoyed when I left the test, my instructor told me to "Cheer up, you passed."

This movie just came out before 9/11
So lucky wasn't canceled, except they stopped showing it a month after 9/11 on TV.
There was an alternate ending where Alex dies and Carter and clear or Claire survived in the end, And we see that clear has a baby.
ACKSHUALLY, the FBI agent being named Schreck is probably a reference to Max Schreck who played Count Orloff in Nosferatu. No idea about the other FBI agent though, I'm sure someone must know
I always felt like that was a bit of the feel for the first one but the sequels are more of a different style of science fiction horror were it felt like it was pulling away from the X Files feeling yet the base idea stayed the same set of survivors that shouldn't have survived meeting a end similar to what they were supposed to in the first accident in respective movies

EDIT: I finally figured it out! Jess was driving me crazy trying to figure out who I saw every time I heard her speak or she was on screen. Sophie Aldred from late 80's Dr. Who with blond hair.

kinda clickbait i was hoping to hear how Mulder and Scully would've factored into the plot of final destination.
Like Jess, Billy’s death was also the first scene I ever saw and the only scene I watched. It was actually the TV edited version where you don’t see his head land. I watched the movie after this review for the first time in very many years because I didn’t really know about all the easter eggs and foreshadowing. Also just great episode of Talk About Tapes. Then I rewatched 2 & 5. I skipped 3 & 4 because I’ve watched them the most from owning on DVD. I hadn’t seen 5 since the theater in 2011. Revisiting this movie was extremely fun & fine.
